Our server Jacob was kind and helpful and the best part was, seemed to really enjoy his job. He took extra care to explain all meals to us and to make sure we would enjoy our selection. The menu is 80% vegan and yet it's nothing like a boring quinoa and kale bowl! We had the fried artichokes on almond purée with pickled celery and they reminded us of fish and chips. Also tried the home-baked flat bread - perfect! - the vegan and gluten-free puttanesca pasta and the Brussels sprouts. Highly recommend EVOO to anyone who is looking for a hearty Italian meal, especially (but not only!) if you prefer vegan and gluten-free food.

This humble spot in an odd location downtown St. John's had been on my radar for a couple years…read morenow. I had walked by numerous times and found it odd but respectable that it was always closed during the day and only opened at 5pm. When I went to enjoy a supper with my parents one holiday evening, the interior was decorated nicely and had really kind service. I ordered the Pork Milanese ($28) which was a battered pork loin with creamy gnocchi noodles and mushrooms on the side. The dish was incredibly filling, but it did keep me wanting to continue picking at each noodle after I was already full. The pork had a lemon on this side to give it some extra zest. My dish was good, but my mom ordered the Chicken Parmesan which honestly looked and tasted better than mine. I also attached a picture of it as well. This place didn't have too many entrees to choose from but the chicken was great, and the pork was good. They have many pizza options, but I am not the biggest fan of fancy pizza so I personally would not come here for that selection. From what I ate though, I'd give this place a solid four for a kind atmosphere and filling meal.

Unfortunately as soon as she sat us and went to get us coffee a server arrived to frustratedly inform us that there was an issue in the kitchen, and we needed to either order that second or leave. Completely understandable there can be issues, but it wasn't our fault we were seated so being curt wasn't necessary, she could've been kind and made her point too. I didn't even have an opportunity to open a menu, but luckily my husband found an egg plate lightening fast so I said I'd take the same. The only difference we'd requested was our eggs cooked two different ways, which was wrong when the food came...but of course no use bringing that to their attention under the circumstances and she wasn't interested anyway. From then on we saw only the hostess again (as she came to check on our coffees). Other than that, we heard the staff somewhere joking loudly or occasionally turning customers away at the door due to the kitchen issue, and a female server (?) start berating the hostess right across from our table. Even though our order wasn't right the food was decent and portions huge. The interior setup is unique, most tables incredibly private. Maybe if we'd come on a different morning we could've enjoyed a meal here, this just clearly wasn't the morning to stop in.

We looked at the menu on Yelp and the brunch menu looked very good. We arrived at this cozy restaurant (I think it was built in a house) and were greeted with a friendly server. We started with a very good cup of coffee. From the choices on the brunch menu I took the skillet: hash brown potatoes topped with eggs, cheese, mushrooms, onions and bacon with hollandaise sauce. Every bite was perfect. I even took the traditional toutons on the side. My boyfriend took the traditional breakfast and fell in love with the peameal bacon. The server always made sure that everything was ok and that our coffees and water were refilled. I recommend this place for brunch, but apparently it's even better for dinner!

The service was excellent (we moved inside and switched tables because we underestimated the cold evening), and our waitress whipped out a laundry stain remover stick when she noticed us furiously dabbing at a shirt stain. Estehetically the cakes would have benefited from a little more browning but it is tricky to not dry them out and they were not dry. The Miso COD was thick, flaky and divine! The beef was sparse and a bit dry, which was curious since the bread was quite greasy. I upgraded my side to a "power greens" salad which I did actually enjoy. The greens were fresh and topped with a pleasant poppyseed dressing. Topping it were thick slices of strawberries and postage-stamp size asiago shavings. My wife ordered chicken tenders and fries which were pretty average. As they are at most places. The interior is lovely - nicely decorated with Persian themes - but not so fancy that it feels discouraging to bring the whole family. The tables are spaced well so it isn't too crowded or noisy. Great place for conversation. We ordered the Mast O Borani appetizer to start - a garlicky yogurt dish served with naan flatbread. It was cool, creamy and delicious. For our main dishes, we ordered mirza ghasemi (an eggplant and scrambled egg stew) and zereshk polo morgh, which was a slow-roasted quarter of a chicken with barberries. Both dishes were served with a generous helping of fluffy, saffron-infused rice. Everything we had was really delicious and had its own distinctive flavorings and spices. We were really impressed. So impressed, in fact, that we ordered a few more different dishes to go so that we could try more things when we got home. They prepared our to go order while we ate, and when we left, we not only had a whole bunch of leftovers from our meal, we had more fresh dishes to try - what a feast to look forward too. The lady who served us was really nice. She said the place had been there for a few years, and was run by her family, with special recipes that her family had developed. What luck they decided to settle in St. John's! I highly recommend Persepolis for a great meal and to support a wonderful family-owned business!
