Ate here again while staying at the hotel and I must say I was quite pleasantly surprised at how good the meal was and the service. For my meal as I was eating alone I decided to eat in the bar at one of the high tables. The bartender quickly acknowledged me and replied "how can I help you my love". You have to love the Newfoundland sayings. Everyone is addressed as "my love" or "my dear". I decided on the Salmon but I had requested that they cook it medium rare (as I always find some chain restaurants overcook salmon)! I ate this with a Caesar salad. The salad was quid good with tiny chunks of bacon and a very generous sizing. The Salmon came with vegetables and linguini with Alfredo sauce in a bowl. It was cooked perfect! Seriously amazing..... just as I had asked for. Many times I have eaten at ESM in Quebec or Ontario and it's a real disappointment. Here was not the case! So... My first time here. Visiting from the US. Very nice hostesses offered many menu suggestions. Travel weary, I went to the bar for beer and pizza. And I waited... Waited 10 minutes for a waitperson to even stop by my table... Waited 20 more for my beer and water... Waited 45 more on the pizza... I thought this was going to be easy after a 12-hour travel day... Place was not full... Weather not so harsh as to cause an assault on local pizza places... Especially mid-week... Perhaps I'm just tired... My waitress/ server (also very nice) just informed me that the pizza was " on them" because it was taking so long... Nice. Small consolation when exhausted... On to the pizza review. Ordered a 10" thin crust, spicy Italian sausage, red onions, mushroom, banana peppers with arrabiata sauce. (Yes it does sound good!) Upon delivery it looked beautiful... Full of goodies - slightly slid to the middle, but nice (see pic). The server offered some extra arrabiata sauce " for dipping" on the side. The banana peppers were excellent! Not quite sure how discerning I am right now (I am SO hungry and tired...) The perimeter of the crust was still "thick" but didn't get in the way of the good combo of spicy and fresh ingredients. I appreciate their recognition of "their fault" on the waiting and the "on the house" pizza. On another day I might say the pizza was excellent... Just too tired today. It was ok, my wife had the chicken parmigiana, where the chicken breast was so small and over cooked that it let the rest of the dish suffer. We mentioned to the waiter, and he forwarded the comment to the kitchen staff, who dismissed the comment and did nothing to correct it. So be warned that the Chicken Parm will let you down. I had the Veal Parmigiana which was very good. We went on one of the nights where kids eat free, that was a nice bonus. Would have given an extra star if they had addressed the Chicken Parm! My family and I visited here on our first night of our vacation. Overall, the experience was positive as the staff were friendly, the place was clean and the food was amazing. I wasn't understanding the seating policy that the Hostesses were enforcing as people who were arriving after others were getting seated first. I saw at one point that a manager stepped in to correct that. A little more training might be needed there. We ordered a special that they had on pizza which included salad and unlimited bread. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was spectacularly large! I mean, you pay for it, but for the price you get two meals out of it easy! The decor of the place was nice, the service was prompt and very attentive and it was overall a great experience! Next time in Saint John, I'll be dining here again for sure... I don't usually post stuff like this but I truly have to after what happen today. My two friends and I moved into a house from 3 separate houses so today was very long with lots of lifting. After we were done moving in we ordered a feast from East Side Mario's unfortunately they got a few big things incorrect about the order (but understandable it's only their first few days on skip) so I called down and told the manager what happened.. she PERSONALLY delivered the entire order (even though we didn't need it) AND GAVE FREE DESSERT!! We were staying at the Holiday Inn after being sent there due to a cancelled flight and were given meal vouchers to be used at East Side Marios. This is a fairly decent chain and we have eaten at other East Side Marios on quite a few occasions. They are known for their Italian cuisine for lunch and dinner and I'm sure the restaurant is great for these meals. However we were told to go there for breakfast as well. This is definitely not their forte and you could tell that. The French toast tasted like a batch of bad banana bread, the scrambled eggs were the worst I've ever had (very rubbery as if they used way too much milk or water, I thought they were fake eggs but the server said that was not the case). The homefries are fried potatoes (almost like french fries) and these were actually good (mainly because they serve these as part of their lunch/dinner repertoire). The bacon was burnt to a crisp. The staff were friendly enough and they have a changing station in the washroom! Sadly I'd have to say that this was my worst breakfast experience ever! read more

I had the lunch special with a friend. Pasta with chicken and alfredo sauce with mushrooms. I don't know if the lunch special is smaller than the regular order but the price is not much cheaper and it was very small portions. 1 Roll with a watered down pepsi. The noodles were over cooked and bloated and mushy. You know how they get when they are boiled too long and they Quadruple in size. All with a very fine serving of parmesan cheese that was so finely grated it essentially disintergrated before hitting the noodles. The taste was just ok. It was not off putting but it was nothing great. It was not enjoyable like my friends penne chicken alfredo with fresh parmesean that she cooked a week ago. The whole point of going out is to get great food that you can't make as good at home. Eastside marios food was like something you would find in a throw up bag on a plane. The seating was great. Nice view. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The server was very good , not exceptionally personable but she did her job very professionally. In conclusion the food was not good small portions and very over priced for what you got. I would have been more happy with a slice or a mc double if that tells you anything. Id reccomend you save your money and go somewhere else, or get a sandwich in the cooler at the corner store. Unless your getting unlimited soup and salad. It's really a big let down. read more

Went here for dinner because someone I knew was staying at the hotel for a function for a group. I used to eat at ESM all the time when I was younger and there are none in the states so going here whenever I'm back in Canada is a can't miss! They are a chain Italian restaurant but they're not authentic Italian obviously. Don't walk in here looking for homemade baked ziti, Caesar salad, and whatnot. Zucchini fritta are amazing - have to be REALLY BAD for you! Large portions! I ordered steak and bacon pita as well and it was fantastic - I cut it in half and saved some zucchini and pita for lunch or dinner tomorrow. HUGE servings! I tried East Side Marios for the first time in Regina SK and loved it, this was probably 10 years ago and I was quite young. Although it doesn't seem quite as amazing now it is still a great place to go when you want consistency. They were also really good with gluten free and had a separate gluten free menu! read more

This place has really changed (for the better) over the past few years. The food is amazing. Service was also great. Saturday (08/29/15) was the last time I had dined there. It was just me and my 5 yr old daughter. It was 5 o'clock and I expected it to be busy however I was seated right away and my server came to my table in well under a minute. Very friendly and offered to take our drink order. Within like 3 minutes he was there with our drinks and even suggested a fun drink for my daughter to try. He answered all my questions I had on items in the menu and was very quick with putting my order in. Within no time we had our salads to start with. I ordered the unlimited ceaser salad and bread. The food was fantastic! I love how they use real bacon and had fresh parm to sprinkle on the salad right in front of me. The bread was so warm and tasty- so full of flavour! I got my main meal and I was shocked to see the portion size of the meal. It was HUGE! I ordered the chicken parmigiana and I was NOT disappointed. I couldn't even finish it! My daughter had the grilled cheese and while she was a fussy eater that day she was also loving it. The food came out at a respectable time for a restaurant and there was nothing I would dream about changing in my experience there. Oh! The dessert was also great. I didn't want something big so I ordered the smallest thing on the menu. It was the right size to finish off the meal I had. The price was great as well. When we entered, there was an older gentleman taking names for tables because there was a wait. First off, he seemed annoyed to see us and when we asked for a table for two, he replied "Well, it's going to be at least 20 minutes, but if you want I can take your names" saying it as if he wanted us to leave, and he did this with everyone. When he was ready to seat us at our table, we inquired about an adjacent booth, which was empty and he actually got mad at us. His comments went something like this "No. You have to take this table, there are other people who are waiting too you know. This is how it goes. All I can say is... NO." First and last time here. Came with my family and asked for 3 highchairs, was told that some guy over at the bar would bring them over. Didn't happen. We went and got them ourselves. We didn't even have our coats off or children strapped into the seats and the server was demanding to know what we wanted to drink. I say "demand" because that's actually what she was doing, in a loud voice. We all asked for water, mostly because we hadn't had time to look at the drinks or think about anything else. So she took off and came back and said in a loud voice, "since you're all having WATER I'll just leave this here" and laid down a jug of water and a stack of plastic glasses and walked away. When she came back to take our orders about 20 minutes later, I asked if it would be cheaper to get two kids meals or one adult pasta dish and split it between my two children. She said that was the way to go, so I did that. It was bowtie noodles with meat sauce. We were charged $16.99 for the bowl of PASTA and an extra $1.00 for meat sauce (I'm guessing tomato sauce wouldn't have that extra charge?). $17.99 for bowtie noodles and some meat sauce. I couldn't believe it. Anyways, when the server brought out the bread and salad it was a different lady, she said she was taking over from the first lady. (Our original rude server continued to serve tables all around us, so it's not like she was done her shift). New server didn't know what anyone ordered, didn't know how the bills were split or who was splitting which appetizer. One meal was missed altogether and given to another table. That was an individual kids pizza. The rest of us ate our meals, which were pretty good but nothing spectacular. Still the kids pizza had not come out. Server kept coming over and apologizing that it was taking so long. Anyways we were eating for a half hour and no pizza. Finally we asked for it to go because we had very young children with us and they couldn't just be sitting there all night. Our server took that pizza off the bill. Even so, the cost of the food was outrageous. Far too much for a few noodles. They don't make their own pasta here, there is absolutely no reason to charge almost twenty dollars for a plate of noodles. First time ever I have not left a tip.
