Lovely service start to finish! This is a really cool place... tv with sports another with trivia makes this a fun atmosphere. The food was amazing. The bowls were great We met Tina the manager she was lovely... "just checking in" she said. Nice touch by her. Her staff were all friendly helpful and professional Attentive but not invasive Please thank Tina and her crew for us. read more

Not good. I've should have known better than to go to a chain. Friday at noon. Music was absurdly loud for a mid-day lunch. Server was hard to get attention. Burgers were not smash burgers, and had no taste to them except the overdone condiments out on them. Just not a great atmosphere, service or food unfortunately. There are so many better choices just a few steps away from this place. read more

Food was great. It cane out in a timely manner, was hot and greenery was fresh. Had seconds on drinks without having to ask. We were served by Katie. She is amazing. Good job girl!! read more

Great meal and service yesterday from the staff at jacks . On my way back home to Fort Lauderdale and the steak was one of the best I've had in sometime. Will return again on my next visit north Thanks Tina for the amazing service read more

First restaurant since we landed here in Newfoundland. We shared the Fish and chips. Very freash cod and nice crisp fries. Half price bottles of wine on Monday and Tuesdays. Service was excellent. Nice waterfront venue. read more

Food was super, ambiance was great (clean and well-appointed) AND the service by Candace C was incredible - attentive & friendly but without intruding on our evening out! Great job and thank you Candace (& JA's!)! read more

Located by the water it is a very nice and spacious chain like restaurant. the waitress was super friendly and fun, she talked to us a lot and hospitality was clearly her forte. we really enjoyed the service here. they have some neat drinks that will have you very happy. SANGRIA- super fun as they bring you the bottles with the ingredients separately so you can build up your flavor, adding a fun fact to the drink for sure. CLASSIC JACK STACK( poutine)- huge serving 2 pol can share easily, as far as flavor, I can say I had better, but I you see yourself here for some drinks this is a good choice for sharing songs at least 3 ppl in your group. I wish though the added ore cheese to it as we eat it I noticed that the middle of the stack was only fries and the sauce and cheese were MIA. BEER CHEDAR SOUP- this is another interesting presentation of meal, comes with a separate beer shot so you can add to the soup yourself, once again they went ahead for the fun factor on the meal, however this soup tasted heavy and salty, I would not recommend this soup at all. one of my friends didn't even bother to eat it at all. overall this is not a place for a foodie and more of a drinking crew type of night. read more

So-called Macho Nacho and Chicken Strips ordered over DoorDash. It cost $18 before tax and when I received my order, there were three tortilla chips, 5 pieces of dry chicken strips, and a small bag of fries. Absolutely a waste of time and money. I'm done with Jack Astor's. read more

Jack Astor's - So-called Macho Nacho and Chicken Strips ordered over DoorDash - Sports Bars Near Me - St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador

Impressive menu but our food was so so. This is not the place to go to if you want to converse with your companion; it was way too loud. There was a tropical storm going on, or else we would have left before being seated and looked for some place less noisy. It would have been more pleasant in better weather so we could sit outdoors. read more

Fish and burger were good fries were cold. Our waitress Monica was very inattentive took the orders and never came back to check. Very disappointing. read more

Visited last night with my family around 8pm. From the beginning, our visit was not pleasant because of our waitress. She was unfriendly and acted as if we were a pain in the ass. She would not make eye contact when she checked in with us once. She asked "everything ok here?" and walked away saying "cool" before we barely answered. The poutine I had wasn't very hot, the fries were hot but the gravy was subpar. Overall, our experience with waitress Alleigh was what made me give this place 2 stars and made her tip quite low to what we would normally tip our waitresses. We told the hostess on the way out how awful she was too. Hope others don't get the same experience. read more

This place is so inconsistent! Gone several times and it's never opened. 3 times have we went for lunch at noon and twice for supper and they have been closed during their open times! Completely annoying maybe management is garbage here but hard to run a business that can't even open during their operating hours!!! read more

We arrived on a Wednesday evening around 7:00pm and had no problems getting a table for four people. The general atmosphere was that of a pub/sports bar, loud music, sports playing on the many big screen TVs all around. Located next to the Keg and the Bier Markt. It is a very large Jack Astor's compared to other locations elsewhere in Canada Our experience was very good. The menu is standardized per the Jack Astor's franchise but they had the usual seasonal extra menu. The staff were attentive, they prompted us if we wanted another pint everytime our current pint was running low For appetizers: The wings were excellent, the dry rub was perfect; not too salty, and the meat underneath was juicy and tender. Garlic cheese bread was actually a big pan fried bun with the garlic and cheese on top. Both came in a portion size big enough to share and both were delicious! For mains: I had the Bourbon Steak entreé with poutine. The steak and the poutine was excellent but I felt the shrimp was a little overcooked Would be happy to come here again for another meal! read more

I normally go for lunch and order off the lunch menu as I'm on budget and the ten dollar lunch menu is perfect. Only complaint one of servers didn't ask lunch menu or regular menu . I always have the lunch menu in my hand and pointed to lunch comb . My bill came I was like " 23 dollars for lunch " I only had a water and chicken strips and side salad . With tax and tip normal 14 something. I said I was charged for the regular not lunch menu . All the serve said is you never said . . Needless to say haven't went back . She didn't even get a manager or anything . I don't mind paying for something if I'm at fault . read more

This Jack Astor's is quite new, has high ceilings, and has plenty of televisions around to watch a sporting event. The food here is, like many chain restaurants, too salty. The fajitas I had were quite expensive (27$ or so). They were advertised as coming with guacamole, yet no discount or apology when they happened to be out of it. Service here is designed to cater to beer-drinking guys in their twenties. Servers have a uniform look. What you get is something between well-intentioned and brash. While I like the Jack Astor's brand and appreciate the money they spent on this location, I would not be in a hurry to get back here. read more

I had a crispy chicken sandwich it was really tasty but the chicken was a pit soggy and the drinks were over priced

Service here is immaculate. There was a very minor mistake with my dish (the cook forgot mushrooms to a pizza. A very simple mistake and it wasn't a huge deal to me.) But before I could even mention it to the waitress she had noticed and sped off to the kitchen to fix the error. I wasn't upset in the slightest. I understand mistakes happen! I was then presented with a cereal bowl full of mushrooms and a number of apologies. More than enough to keep me happy. They then went the extra mile to present my entire bill at no charge. Even when I insisted to pay as it was a small mistake, they insisted on keeping me happy. My experience went from great to amazing. Top notch service unlike I ever seen before and will return again soon. read more

This place is home to great service, great food, and great laughs. The atmosphere is very light and welcoming. And they did an amazing job catering to my wife's allergies. (Celiac gluten & Dairy.) it's also fairly inexpensive definitely going to go back! read more

Terrible quality of food. No way to even report problems to their management team on the website. I sent an email to about 20 different people in their company asking them to deal with a service request. 0 response. The food quality is not good. The chicken wings I had were watery. Meaning they use extremely low grade chicken. Food is overpriced. Drinks are worse. Downtown St. John's is a nice place. Places like this should be in a strip mall. read more

The chicken strips are a favourite of my son. However in general the food is fine. The ratio of servers to tables does not allow for good service. read more

Great location on the Harbour with outdoor seating. I had a shrimp caesar salad which was very tasty...loved the dressing! The downside to this restaurant is the service. We had to flag our waitress down to order after sitting for a long time and same with asking for the check when we were ready to leave. It took awhile for the food to come out as well even though we were there at a sort of in between lunch and dinner time (so it wasn't packed). read more

I had a nice meal here. Service was super friendly and the food was good if not expensive. I ordered the Smoking Salmon ($21) and the caramel dream ($5.50) dessert. The fish was a little small but maybe that's me being picky for my $21 fish. But it was good. The quinoa/rice had a good taste to it too, was surprised it wasn't completely bland. I didn't care for the butter on top of the fish or grilled tomatoes. The dessert was sweet but tasty. A bit overboard on the caramel but I guess that's what I ordered. Decor was overboard sports bar - good for a bunch of guys going out but not so much for anything else. read more

This was my first time visiting Jack Astor's without an OpenTable reservation and I have to say it was the worst service we've ever received. We were late receiving our drinks, our appetizers and main course all arrived at the same time, and one of our group was even later still getting his food. The quality of our food this evening also was certainly not to the usual par from my previous experiences. I usually look forward to my meal here, but this evening was not that great! read more

It was way over priced, too loud, my veggie burger was mini sized, not much flavour, and both my burger and poutine was luke warm. Also they messed up my drink, they have sangria with the option of red or white wine. Gave me a wine spritzer.... would have liked Montana's over this.. read more

Interesting mix of restaurant styles. Decor is upscale but funky, lots of quotes and things to look at. Montana's feeling with the paper, crayons and birthday singing. The food was good, had a gluten free bacon cheese burger and my boyfriend had the BBQ chicken pizza. I think it will be one of those go to restaurants when you want consistency and know you're going to get good service and a good meal. read more

As parents we have always had trouble getting out so many date nights are had after the kids go to bed. Took ten minutes before anyone even acknowledge us at the bar that was a third full on a Tuesday night, we were about to walk out. Food was decent, but service was uninspired and we seemed more of a nuisance than anything else. The guy and girl behind the bar were only interested in talking to their friends. I would say to avoid of possible to get a better newfoundland experience. Honestly worst park of my 5 day trip. read more

I went here a few times and it has not been ok at all. I know friends who say it is great but from my personal experience it is not great. The food was terrible and the waitresses I've had were rude and mixed up our orders every time but once. I will give it another try but if it is bad again I will give up altogether! read more

Seriously? Jack astor's why you gotta be like that. First no sound for the World Cup, that people flocked into your fine establishment to view a once every four year amazing spectacle, currently being watched by millions and millions of people worldwide. Terribly disappointed-much like many of the customers that were here today. You should serve your the prime majority of the clientele in your place for this special event. Also, you were out of rolling rock to add insult to injustice. Otherwise service was great. 4/5 read more

The food wasn't hot, poutine as well, and the drink was messed up as well. Go to Boston Pizza, they're food is always good.

Now of course this is just my experience with the bar but, I really loved it. Service here is tops. Tons of beer on tap, the bar staff does flare (if you ask they'll throw pour your beer into a glass), a metric shit ton of TV's makes this place one of, if not the, best sports bar in town. Check it out. read more

Good food, good time! Love the tomato bisque. My burger was super tasty!

Good service, almost over the top - hard to see how it is sustainable with waiters waiting on waiters, etc. Prices are decent, but the portions are among the smallest in town. Great spot for a big selection on drinks, and beers on tap. Overall good, but the portion size really hurts my desire to return. read more

My son's birthday, 12 of us went out to dinner at Jack Astor's in Downtown St. John's. Because they do not take reservations, my daughter and I were there 45 minutes before we hoped to be seated. We were told 50% of our party must be present before we would be given a seat. There are no benches or chairs available for people waiting. Disgusted, we asked someone to take the birthday cake we brought with us got on the phone and tried to get people in early from Portugal Cove and CBS.After about 30 minutes and just before the next 4 of our party arrived (making the 50%), a party of 7 and a party of 8 arrived. There was now nowhere to seat us and we were advised it would be at least another hour before we would be seated. After discussing amongst ourselves for another 5 minutes or so, we spotted 3 square tables that could accommodate us, at least we would be sort of together. We asked for those and were seated. Little did we know we would have 3 different servers. My wife and I sat at different tables. The orders at my table were taken first. My wife waited for a while and eventually flagged someone down to take orders from her table. Food arrived at her table first (hers was cold so she sent it back, got it free I think). Even though the orders from my table were placed first (and well ahead of my wife's table), food arrived at my table so late that a that half of my wife's table and all of the other table were finished eating before ours even arrived. We asked a server to bring our cake and several of them came and sang for us. Because I was facing the entrance, I could see a crowd of waiting customers with nowhere to sit. What is the restaurant going to do in winter when there is not enough room between the door and the desk, the crown is wearing winter coats and the door is open with waiting patrons trying to get in out of the weather? The food was good. The staff were great. They are not to blame for the restaurant's policy, so I tipped 15%. I did advise the hostess that I would be posting a review reflecting their policy, and that I understand the girl at the desk could do little about it.I would like to send a copy of this review to the restaurant, but I see another review here advising I would be wasting my time. It was particularly upsetting to see parties of 7 and 8 walk in and be seated right away seconds before we had the 50% quota. read more

I've been here twice; each time I enjoyed my food and appreciated the good service. I've had the warm salmon salad with the dressing on the side and its delicious. The Jiggs dinner poutine is mouth-watering and out of this world. Burgers look and smell amazing and desserts are great! This restaurant is very urban, funky and loud. The servers are very professional, lively and they hustle to make sure that all their tables are taken care of. There are tv's everywhere with loud music, an energetic and playful bar and lots of chatter. There is a bit of a wait to get in and the porch is small, so bring a coat to wait outside, but they give you a text message when you're table is ready (on weekends), which is very convenient for walking downtown before dinner. The place is very clean and welcoming for such a trendy spot. If you like a social, and active setting this is for you. Overall: Food- Awesome, Service- Great. read more

Remember that restaurant scene in your favourite movie or TV show, where everyone and everything is just perfect? I don't quite know why, but every time I go here, I feel like I'm in one of those scenes. The food is great, the staff are fun, they wear funny shirts, and even the people I bring there always seem to be more fun than they are when I'm with them anywhere else. I've eaten at a Jack Astor's in three different cities, and came away thinking the same thing every time. Great spot; I'll be going back.
