    veggie life with vegan cheese
    Sarah Louise F.

On our second last evening in St. John's, my travelling pal Claire found Pi online when searching for vegan options for me. I have to say, St. John's was the last city I expected to find such a rad place. After experiencing a drive-by-nerf-gun-shooting walking down Duckworth to get here, I was immediately soothed by the cool aesthetic and awesome post hardcore music playing in this little nook. My friends and I shared an order of garlic cheese bread with... SOY CHEESE. What's that? Somewhere in Newfoundland serves vegan cheese on their menu? YES. YES THEY DO. And quality soy cheese at that; none of that secretlyunvegancaseinstuff, or grosslysweettapiocadaiyacheese. Following this, we each ordered our own pizza as I was with one carnivore, one vegetarian, and was the loan vegan. I had the veggie life with vegan cheese. High fives to this pizza. It ruled. Following our delightful meal, my one friend ordered a piece of hot fudge cake, which happened to be vegan. I tried a bite and wasn't really taken by it, but I am also a vegan baker myself so am super picky. If I lived in St. John's, I would order pizza from here everyday if it weren't so pricey. :)

Fantastic pizza! A wee bit pricey but worth it! Their thin crust is awesome & the staff specials on the chalk board are awesome!

Excellent lunch! Expectations surpassed. The focaccia sandwich was one of the best we've had.

    Review Highlights - Pi

My favourite pizza has to be the Fibonacci (caramelized pears, toasted walnuts, Gouda) but the others I've tried approach it's greatness.

The staff, and especially our server Lennon, were personable and professional. We ordered the burrata, which was amazing, and also one of their wood oven fired pizzas. The servings were generous and delicious. We highly recommend Piatto's to anyone looking for great Italian dining in St John's NL. Thanks Piatto's!

We decided to have a meal between lunch and dinnertime. The…read moreservice was excellent. We started with a salad called Barbabietola Artostita, splitting it for both of us. It was excellent. We also ordered an Antipasta called Arancini. That was different than anything we have had either in the USA or in or several trips to Italy. It was interesting but it lacked seasoning. When we tried to order a pasta dish, we were informed that no pasta dishes may be ordered before 5:00pm. So we ordered a Marinara pizza to which we added zucchini. I have eaten in Naples at several restaurants so I was able to tell that this crust was made in the Naples style; very thin and made in a very hot oven. The Marinara sauce however was not just salty; it was extremely salty almost to the point of not edible. That affected both of our digestion afterwards. For dessert we had a Tiramisu. Instead of being a piece cut out of a large rectangular baking dish for a cake, it came baked in a tiny glass jar. It was OK but it was not really a real tiramisu and the portion was quite small. Since we did not have access to anything off of the dinner menu, we cannot comment on those dishes.
