I have been here three times, and only managed to get fed once. That should be enough of a review but I will elaborate.
First time I went here I had a large Jax Chicken Burrito on white. I got the combo which included a bottled Coca-Cola product and nacho chips. No salsa. No, no. I had to pay extra for the salsa.
So after I pay, the guy behind the counter asks me if I wanted rice and/ or smashed beans. Sure. So a couple of spoonfuls of rice and a smear of beans go on the tortilla. Not exactly the amount I was expecting but whatever. Then I'm asked if I wanted mashed sweat potato on it. I wanted to run, but I had already paid. I said no and we moved on. Cheese? Yup, and on goes the standard white and orange stuff. Onions? Of course. Out comes the green onions. This is a burrito not won ton soup. Red onion or grilled onions please. Then the chicken went on, not a whole lot of it but it looked good. Lettuce???????? and the smallest amount of tomato was also added. I had some pickled jalapeños on it also.I had their burrito sauce on it which is just sour cream spiked with lime juice. I also had some habanero sauce which tasted ok and had a nice amount of heat to it. My burrito was then placed on the grill. I waited, and waited for it to toast up. 5 minutes or more later it was wrapped and given to me. My Coke wasn't though, neither were my salsa less chips.
Without getting into great detail, the burrito was ok. Not great, clearly not what a burrito should be, and clearly not what I paid almost $15 for. First of all, go away with your pickled peppers. If I can buy fresh ones at the super market so can you. Where is the cilantro? Stop using lettuce as a filler, this isn't Subway. Leave the green onions at the Chinese place next door. You have two huge grills there, grill your green peppers and onions. If you put rice on a burrito, put more than two spoonfuls on there. Don't hesitate to season it also. Nacho chips? Make them yourself. I can buy the Que Pasa brand at Sobeys five minutes from there which if I had to guess is what you guys serve. They should be warm also. This business of charging extra for salsa is a joke.
The "take money" rather than "make money" attitude that this franchise has will be its end. Filling a burrito with lettuce and charging someone ten bucks for it is weak. Not offering fresh ingredients like jalapeños, not pickled, is also weak. If other burrito chains can do it so can Jax. 1/3 of your posted menu is the "extras." If I want a little extra sour cream on my burrito I have to pay for it? A little extra hot sauce cost something also? When Mucho Burrito comes in here where is Jax going to be? Mucho doesn't gouge for little things like salsa with their combos. Worse for Jax is going to be when an independent opens up and isn't bound by head office BS. Then there will be a proper burrito game in the area.
Trip two.....couldn't get their debit machine working, wasted ten minutes of my time. Pizza place next door got my money that day.
Trip three was at about 10:25 on a Friday night....closed. A fast food place that closes at 10pm on Friday and Saturday nights, brilliant. There is a busy bar located right next to it. Stay open till midnight and maybe make a few bucks off the drunk idiots looking for food...or the hungry guy that drove twenty minutes from CBS for a God damn burrito. Again, more time and money wasted on this place for nothing. The slice of pizza was good though.
2 stars for opening a very needed burrito place in the area. No more stars beyond that for wasting my time and only providing an average food product. read more
