Wendy's - isn't that scrumptious looking. This is what it looked like when I took it out of the package

I was heading to Halifax and when I arrived at my destination and went to open my sandwich it was a grotesque hamburger. It had cheese, it had pickles, it had been layered with mustard. It was disgusting. I returned to Dartmouth at 10:05 pm at the restaurant. The doors were locked but there was customers in there. I got a staff members attention and tried to explain through the door what had happened and that I wanted a refund. She informed me they were closed and that I could come back with the package tomorrow. hmmmm You guessed it I was annoyed. I tried to further explain I don't live in that area and she told me that she was closed. NO listening to a customer. I didn't want a sandwich that time of night. I wanted my money back. I told her I would be hitting online and making a complaint both to Wendys and to online sites. I turned around and headed to the car and she yelled out "have a wonderful rest of the night". WTF? Who the heck does the individual think she is that she can yell after a customer with a condescending and RUDE response. I will be returning with the product tomorrow. I will be insisting she provide me as a customer an apology. #StayAwayFromWyseRoadWendys

On the whole, Wendy's restaurants aren't all that bad. For fast food, its not bad food and for the…read moremost part, you get what you expect. However, separate to some extent from the corporate entity are the individual cells that make it up. And one cell that deserves particular attention is the location on Wise Road, It's pretty much the first eatery you see pulling off the John A. Which is really unfortunate because this gimmick works and this monstrosity of poor customer service and cold food claims many victims daily. The first thing you notice when you walk in are the employee's faces. Just an sorry row of miserable scowls that you just KNOW your presence is responsible for. This particular establishment -as of mid-2009 since that's the last time I ever, or will ever, eat there- appeared to enforce a policy of only hiring low-energy, low-motivation slobs. They're about as rude as they can get away with being, they stand around in a state of greasy, hypnotic exhaustion and they often repeat the order back incorrectly several times. This is all before the food comes. I don't believe I ever had one correct, complete order from this establishment (and seeing as I lived down the street from it, I gave it ample opportunity to redeem itself) There is one order that particularly stands out. I ordered one of those Asian salads they have on their (admittedly pretty good) menu. With this salad, I was supposed to get dry noodles, orange slices and dressing. I got the dry noodles. I also got tortilla chips that looked as if they would feel more at home in a hearty western-style salad. Instead of oranges, i got a cup of sour cream. I didn't get any dressing. I've ordered hamburgers and gotten chicken sandwiches. (Of course, I've ordered ice cream and gotten a hamburger, so in a way, it all comes out in the wash.) There are frequently things missing from the order. They often got the drink wrong. Which is simply unacceptable because they pour it as you're asking for it. Basically, unless you're hungry for "teh lulz" and have the money to waste on them, I'd bypass this location all together.

McJolly Filipino Fast Food - Combo Meal #3 - fried chicken with rice, corn and gravy

Filipino food is probably my favourite international cuisine, with its delicious mix of Asian and…read moreSpanish flavours, and while their fast food is much more American-ized than their more traditional stuff, it's its own little niche that deserves some love too! McJolly was started by Filipino immigrants who became restauranteurs in Halifax and takes its name from two of the most popular fast food chains in the Philippines. No guesses are needed for the prefix, but the second part may be less familiar for Maritimers - Jollibee. They're only just starting to expand in Canada, with about 30 locations across the country, and are known for their assorted menu of fried chicken, burgers, and Filipino-style spaghetti. The menu at McJolly is much the same, and I had the fried chicken section in my sights. I went for Comb Meal #3 - fried chicken, rice and your choice of coleslaw or corn (I chose the latter). I thought I was getting a lighter meal than some of the combos that have both rice and spaghetti, but when my tray was in front of me, the *four* pieces of chicken (two drumsticks and two thighs, go Team Dark Meat!) said otherwise! Hilariously, I was in a bit of a rush to get to a job interview, so I had to inhale this meal and couldn't quite give it the attention it deserved, but there were really only four different items - the chicken, steamed rice, corn and gravy. I won't play coy and leave it until the end of the review - the chicken was awesome! The coating was super crisp, and the meat within was moist and tender. I do wish Filipino fried chicken had more seasoning to it, but hey, well executed fried chicken is still a wonderful thing! The gravy had a pleasant peppery kick to it, and I slathered it over both the chicken and the rice. The small cup of corn was a bit of an afterthought, and I probably should have gone with the coleslaw on the off chance that it would be a vinegar-based dressing to have something to cut through the rich chicken, but it's likely mayo-based anyway. I love that Filipino food has really been blowing up in Halifax the past few years, and I'll definitely be doing a deep dive into it all, including a return visit to McJolly for the spaghetti next time!
