Fresh Direct is one of the most unprofessional services I have ever encountered. Last week they left one of my bags on the truck. I was told someone would reach out to me within the hour with an update on the driver and that never happened. I had to call three times, not only to get a status update but then to fix the re-order for the missing items because it was incorrect. Tonight, my groceries are an hour late. It is almost midnight and I am still waiting for my order. When I called customer service, I was told the driver is "unreachable" and they only offered to refund the measly shipping fee. Fresh Direct is almost always late. I would not recommend this grocery delivery service to my worst enemy. read more

Oh Fresh Direct, why are you doing this to me? I get that you're moving to a new facility- but maybe- just maybe- you should have suspended services for a bit, got your act together, and started up again when you were ready- because clearly, you ain't ready. My latest fiasco started yesterday morning when I didn't get my confirmation email. From a previous experience, I already know that spells trouble. After a call back from your lame customer service (because their new thing is "estimated hold times are at least 45 mins"), a rep called back and assured me the order was en route. Fine- the order was "only" a half hour late- but $145 worth of groceries were missing. Again, I place a call, again I wait- finally get a call back. The rep goes through the order with me, we go through the missing items, she schedules the replacement order for Tuesday evening. I get a confirmation email- 5 items are missing from the replacement order due to her incompetence. This time I email because I no longer am going to waste time waiting for a phone call. Fast forward to this morning- still no email. I call. There's STILL a 45 minute wait time. They call back- but they can't investigate because THEIR COMPUTERS ARE DOWN. Two hours later (as I lose precious moments of my life I can't get back) they call again, they tell me they can't modify the replacement order, and issue me a credit for the items they couldn't add to the replacement order. I spend thousands at Fresh Direct every year, and have been with them since they started delivering to Queens- but I'm sure Amazon Fresh would love my business. read more

As a person who works too much and late hours, drinks too much to do any form of errands during hours that are followed by "am", and only had one day off a week, Fresh Direct is proof that there is a god out there. $5 delivery* and only a $30 minimum? sold. Honestly, I am always running around, travelling or never home, so the rare occasion i have a day off, you can sure bet i am not trying to leave my bed for anything - not even groceries. ESPECIALLY when the grocery stores around here have awful awful disgusting produce and meat. FORGET IT! I dont have the time to make food for myself AND worry about potential food poisoning. So I tried Fresh Direct. Ordered about 40 bucks in groceries, which when i do the math would have been about 60+ bucks at the grocery store around me (not to mention probably not edible thereafter). I get caught up at work super late sometimes, so i decided to try for a 10PM -1130PM DELIVERY to see if they'll actually listen or try to send my groceries when no ones there. Also made sure to make the note that my bell doesnt work sometimes and to call my cell. Called their customer service twice with questions. People on the phone were awesome, pleasant and i didnt have to wait on hold for 90 minutes. One guy was even playful and fun on the phone and hooked it up with 2 months of free deliveries (turning off the auto renewal for $60 for me) So tonight was the night I scheduled for delivery. Perfect Perfect Perfect. I got home tonight at 930pm, groceries came at 10:15pm. The delivery guy was nice, not rude or sleazy. Asked where to put the groceries and i directed him to the kitchen counter. I opened my box of groceries and everything was accounted for, charged right. perfect. My lettuce was a perfect bright fresh looking green - not brown and gross where i have to peel off the first 3 layers of leaves to get like 2 leaves of edible romaine. 2 packs of 3 hearts of Romaine for $5. cmon. cant beat that. My chicken was fresh and as im eating some i grilled up right now, ill tell you it tastes yummy. My salmon fillets were the right color and didnt smell bad. Both of which cost less than what they do in these local grocery stores, and are a ton fresher. I am in love. and thats alot coming from this girl. I started using them when I lived in Brooklyn. The delivery service started out really great, with polite, hardworking folks who are punctual and honest. Then, slowly, it went downhill. So I stopped, thinking they may need time to figure out their Brooklyn operations. They began offering services to where I live now so I signed on. The first four delivery was once again superb. The guys (and gal!) were experienced, polite, helpful. Then, just like the first round, I began to get argumentative people who told how my front door isn't where it should be (!!) and this time, left the perishable goods in 80 degree heat and lied about it. Then Turkey/Stuffing, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, Butternut Squash, Cranberry Peach Chutney, Sweet Potato Apple Gratin, Green Beans with Shallots and Roasted Cremini Mushrooms, Parmesan Creamed Corn, and Cranberry Walnut Biscuits. Desserts of Hot Apple Pie Sundaes in parfait glasses, Carrot Cranberry Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting and a Praline Pumpkin Cake. Then I saw the Fresh Direct discount card in the mail pile. I got to thinking, actually going to the market, shopping and trucking everything out to the car and then back home and up to the apartment is something I could sidestep. I had only to order online, wait for delivery with a two hour time slot, Cable TV eat that!- put it all away and prepare to cook in the coming days. The order arrived at the scheduled time with three items missing. When I called in the error- no toll free number- the gal that took the information was one light bulb loose in her marquee sign. I spent 20 minutes trying to explain that I had ordered 4 packages of mushrooms, two cremini and two baby portobello. I had received 4 packages of portobello and no cremini. She couldn't get her head wrapped around that there was something wrong. I was also out some brown sugar. I asked if she could enter the error and have the items sent to me and she kept repeating that I would get a credit. Finally I asked her if I would have to reorder everything and she said yes, that is how items get sent. Now, I had already ordered and paid for the items and they didn't get sent. What would make me think that they would this time? Whatever. I didn't bother. I went to my local meat-o-mat to get them instead and stood in line for a half hour. When the credit came in, I was credited for only two of the missing items. I had to call again and ask for credit for the third missing item. Another 20 minutes explaining what happened. Would I use FD again? Probably next time I have another uber huge meal to fix. I was a major fan and when they failed because of crippling infrastructure and could not monetize I was very sad. I always felt like they were ahead of their time. . . I've been a customer of fresh direct since they started. I've put up with them giving me half of the items I order so I don't have things I needed for that night, delivering me things covered in something that spilled, sub par produce and so much more because I like having my groceries delivered but now they can't even do that. I've a door to a delivery room in my building it's always open but fresh direct stands outside then leaves. I call them and they put me on hold for up to 30 minutes and when I talk to them they're sarcastic saying things such as they called and talked to you. I say no I didn't talk to them and they say then who did. I say who ever answered at whatever number they called. They don't say sorry we made you wait all day. My groceries were supposed to be here four hours ago and they won't even call me! I hate this but I'm going to go to the grocery store because fresh direct is no longer any good old food and poor service. They said they'd call me back but didn't. We just threw a housewarming party and I had no idea how I was going to haul such a major load of eats + drinks to our house. Luckily, Fresh Direct saved the day. For about $80, I was able to get snacks (dips - everyone loved the salsa and guac. The homestyle salsa is great and can be repurposed into delicious omelets, chips, fruit, trail mix), delicious cold cuts, veggies, soda...the possibilities are endless! The catering options did not actually seem to expensive, as compared to catering from my local supermarket. My only criticism was that the delivery guy left the boxes downstairs and didn't bother to ask or offer to help me carry anything upstairs (luckily I don't live on the 5th floor of a walk-up anymore). I also love that they have so many options for delivery times. If you don't have a car and are planning for a huge dinner or party, Fresh Direct is the way to go. While ordering from them probably won't become a regular habit, it sure is a saving grace for those of us that don't have cars or huge diesel arms. Yes, they jack up the price for everything. Our first and last order. We ordered a few items and a case of soda. Wanted to see if shopping with them might be an option. The case of soda was not delivered. The driver didn't know where it was. When my husband called they said they could not say when they would deliver the item as they didn't have it and they wouldn't issue a refund for 48 hours. They also did not respond to my emails or twitter messages. Fresh Direct has no right to charge customers for items they do not have, they didn't even contact me before delivery of my order to say the item was out of stock. As I was typing up my complaint to the better business burea the soda showed up. Later in the evening someone shows up with the soda. The next day (today) I get an email they have credited me for the non delivered soda, I had to contact them to wake them up and say it was delivered hours later. I just love Fresh Direct. I mean, I live in a 4th floor walk-up - do I really need to say more? Even if I didn't NEED to say more, has that ever stopped me? Yeah - that was a rhetorical question. Anyway. I decided to try them out several months ago and thought they were fab, so now they're a nearly-every-week thing. I still go to Trader Joe's and the Greenmarket. But I've found a core list of items that are just a better deal through Fresh Direct - and by deal I mean both in terms of $$ as well as in terms of sheer hauling-it-up-the-stairs action. For instance? Almond milk. Canned goods. Flour and sugar (when I'm in extreme baking mode). Also? Kale, fresh fish, and occasionally wine. Produce has been mainly good but not always cheap. I try to keep an eye on the sale items vs. the sale items at other stores. Pineapple, bananas, kale, and onions are staples in my order, and have been consistently good. Other fruits - especially my last, rock-hard and tasteless, order of cantaloupe, kind of miss the mark. Occasionally, they also throw in a treat. Over last summer they were running a promotion where they'd throw in some free 'peak produce'. And it wasn't just a single apple or orange, either: I ended up with a whole pineapple one week, and a whole melon another week. A few weeks ago, they threw in a big cookie. Last week it was a free frozen dinner. So - that's kind of fun. But mostly? I don't have to schlep as much stuff up the stairs to the 4th floor. Hoorah for that, man. read more

Judging from all of the dissatisfied customers I see posting on their FB page, I see that I am not the only one having issues with #freshdirect. What happened? The service was always good; I hardly every had something to complain about. But lately, Fresh Direct has been awful. On repeated deliveries I received advance emails letting me know that an item (or items) I ordered is out of stock. Since they didn't deliver what their website indicated was available, I was forced to go out and shop for it. Well, what then is the point of using their service? Today, a product was damaged during delivery. The packing was done poorly. I phoned at 1:45 p.m. to notify them but had to opt for having their service calling me back due to high call volume. It is now over 4.5 hours later and I have yet to be contacted. Fresh Direct has been moving their location to a newer facility but this transition has been horribly managed. Their service has suddenly become unreliable and they are not adequately built to manage the concerns of their clients. This is my first experience with FD and it has been a nightmare, up to this very minute, as I write this! I'm waiting for a callback from the nice customer service lady. Well, the first one I spoke to was also very nice, but she put me on hold long enough for me to cook dinner with what remaining food I have in my apartment. Then the survey came on--I gave it all 1's and one 'No'. And that was the end of that call. I called back...The reason I was calling in the first place involves an order I attempted to place, in vain I will add, just before Christmas. I'm having some trouble standing in lines due to pain, so my wonderful son sent me a $150 digital gift card for Fresh Direct. I have never spent one penny with them, Still. I'm trying to spend some now but they keep cancelling my gift card, telling me I have only $34.00, or zed because 'this card has already been used' per the FD eSite. After being a regular customer for over 10 years, I have decided to close my account and no longer order from Fresh Direct. It was once a great company, delivering fresh, high quality foods at fair prices; but now it is a disorganized mess whose prices are continually on the rise. My problems with Fresh Direct began about a year ago. All of a sudden delivered orders were missing items which were charged for, had spoiled food, had items with expired expiration dates or had damaged items. Sometimes, orders would have several problems like missing items and spoiled food. To be fair, the Customer Service Department is excellent, remedying all problems efficiently and respectfully. But, who needs to deal with this when there are so many other services out there who charge less and provide better and consistent service? I should have left earlier, but being a loyal customer for over a decade, I hoped they would improve. They did not. read more

Great selection, intermittently bad quality, terrible delivery I am giving them two stars because their selection is at least significantly better than that of Amazon Fresh, where half the meat always seems to be out of stock. Two or three years ago they were great, I would have been hard pressed to think of anything negative to say. Now produce arrives bruised and brown, items like tortilla chips that are fragile arrive shattered as they're clearly thrown into boxes with no padding and heavy items on top of them, sometimes I get produce I didn't ask for marked incorrectly as the produce I did ask for, which is of course missing. Lunch and dinner, dessert , your furniture, and NOW groceries can all be delivered to your door. I am a huge fan of supporting the local farmers in the tri-state area. I want to make sure they get the right amount of exposure, and business, so I help them any way I can. Fresh Direct allows me to purchase groceries, local vegetables, fruit, beverages, and has it delivered to my doorstep in the window of time I provide for them. This is a luxury you can't get anywhere else, and I take advantage of it. I suggest that you do too, because the quality of produce can't be beat. We're busy people in this city, and can't be bothered by lines, and disgruntled workers. I love coming home to boxes from FD. Take advantage of their recipes, they are amazing. The website allows you to click the recipe you want to make, and provides you with the exact amount of each ingredient to place in the dish. They send you a copy of the recipe card with the ingredients, and email the directions when you purchase the ingredients. This is a one-stop-shop for all your culinary needs. I am soooo done with FreshDirect. Last month I made a change to my order and they charged me the order twice! Did I mention they delivered the order twice too ?? Then 3 weeks ago, they delivered and when I look for some items I noticed they forgot to deliver a FULL BOX! After calling and complaining they delivered some of the items 3 days later. I have ordered from them on and off for the past few years. Service is impeccable and food quality is 2nd to none. What sparks this review was my decision to use them to cater Thanksgiving. It was absolutely a great decision. I ordered online about 3 weeks in advance so I was able to get a delivery time of 6pm to 8pm the day before Thanksgiving. They have perfected the art of delivery ans once again received my order within the time slot and it was totally accurate. I tipped as always even though the delivery person seemed surprised. Now the good stuff.. I ordered the largest meal they offered. A turkey that feeds 14 to 18 (not sure on poundage), 5 family sized sides, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, dinner rolls and choice of 3 desserts. The turkey comes partially cooked I believe it is brined but not seasoned so prior to cooking it we rubbed adobo, garlic powder and pepper on it. Comes with fool proof directions. It produced a very moist with crispy skin bird that was absolutely delicious. Start to finish cooking time is around 3 hours that includes the turkey and all the sides. Sorry for the long review but I was looking for something like this prior to ordering to put my mind at ease. Now for the sides all were awesome and fresh as always. Don't think you can go wrong on any it mostly will depend on personal preference. The Mac N Cheese was the fan favorite wish I would have doubled up on this one. Mashed sweet potatoes and creamed spinach werw delicious. Least favorites were the roasted veggies and kale. Again both seemed like quality sides but weren't cared for. Dinner also came with rolls which baked up to be fluffy. Once again the amount of food fed 9 adults and 3 children with enough for seconds and take home for all. Now onto dessert.. we had the pumpkin pie which was ok.. the chocolate cake which was absolutely delicious and an apple crisp which with a scoop of vanilla icecream and some whipped cream pit us into a coma. I hope to order the apple crisp again just to keep in the freezer another huge hit. So for the long winded review but the price is worth it. They WERE reliable, dependable, great - never missed a delivery, all the items were correct, the delivery crew were nice- until about this past October (2017). Then for some weird reason everything just collapsed. Since October, orders are wrong, late without warning, items are broken. Like flipping a switch from on to off. Around Christmas I ordered a case of cat food and got a case of holiday tissue paper. 12,000 sheets of it! Today was the last straw: I had a scheduled delivery for the 12-2 pm slot. We used Fresh Direct for our Thanksgiving dinner. I have to say, I was a little skeptical with the idea of a "pre-made" dinner. We had the meal for 5-6 with the roasted veggies, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and stuffing sides. Nearly everything was really good. (The only thing I didn't care for was the pumpkin pie.) Very pricey for what you get. My bananas came to me completely green (two days later and I'm still waiting for them to ripen enough to eat). I ordered the Mille-feuille Chocolate Mousse, expecting it to be slightly larger (you know, since it cost $6) and it was LITERALLY half the size of my hand (I've included pictures). If you're on the fence about signing up for FreshDirect in the city (or say Jersey City) you should give them a shot. There's generally a first time sign up promo code floating around on the internet that you can find with a quick google search (e.g. $50 off $125) which takes a good bite out of the place. Customer service has been good too. The representatives I have spoken too have been friendly in either giving me updates about my delivery or crediting me if they mess up my order. Delivery guys have been timely in their 2 hour windows and when they show up, while not necessarily friendly, they are professional. Prices are worse on some things than your grocery store (seems like the fresh stuff is 15%-20% more expensive) while others are better (packaged goods e.g. cereal). You pay a delivery fee which also makes the store more economical. But that makes sense because you're doing the labor and schlepping all that stuff home. Good customer service, decent variety, timely deliveries and a little bit of premium vs store for pricing. Give it a try. read more

Their delivery is usually on time, except when the drive got lost on the way to our old apartment - apparently finding a building on the corner of 26th Street and Seventh Ave in Manhattan is REALLY hard to do. The drivers are reasonably courteous (May I dump your boxes with the doorman, inside your entryway or in your hallway) and I usually don't feel like I am going to be attacked in my home by one of them (this actually happened, or so I have read). The fruit is sometimes not ripe and hard as a rock. Sometimes its yummy sweet. The vegetables are fresh and good. Their cheeses are their strong point. Artisanal Cheese delivered to your home is totally Fab - especially if you are a cheese snob like me ( although I have been known to dip into the Velveeta, but I digress....). They also carry Asher's chocolates which of top of the line (I know this from my managing-a-candy-store while in College days). Chocolate covered grahams crackers are da Bomb! Their shrimp cocktail platters are spot on - whenever I order one, I am reluctant to share it with my guests because the shrimp are so succulent. Their restaurant entrees are ok, but generally not as good as when eating the same meal at the actual restaurant. Their lobster pot pie is a decadent calorie fest (one of my faves when I was pregnant). Their chocolate soufflé is also extremely good. Their chicken breasts are where they lose me - I don't know what kind of hormones they are giving these chickens but the breasts are HUGE! The chickens they come from must be decedents of Dolly Parton because no normal chicken has a breast that large! They have a decent wine and soft drink selection. I read some of the reviews about FreshDirect and clearly experiences have varied. So I'll start by saying that I am new to FreshDirect, so I'll try to keep my review as real as it can be. Every time I walk into my local grocery store, I get everything I need. I usually have a list on me and I know where items are located like the back of my hand. Yet, every time I step out of the store... it's an hour and a half later. HOW!? So I started to look for an online service that could replace my need to go grocery shopping. Being in a big city with so much to do, our time is valuable. Spending an hour and a half at the grocery store probably isn't the best use of time. After some research this past week I found out that FreshDirect would probably give me the produce I need at a reasonable cost (would have opted for amazon pantry or google express but they're still lacking). This week I purchased all the items I would usually buy at my local grocery store and realized the total was relatively similar (this includes fresh vegetables, seafood, meat, dairy, etc). So off that bat that was good. Now, delivery. I've read some of the previous reviews and sounds like delivery has begun to be a nightmare. So I was pretty nervous to see what would happen. I had my first delivery today and I cannot complain. It came with the window I picked and all of the food was fresh (maybe even fresher than my local grocery store to be honest). Unlike other reviews, I didn't have any issues with "hidden fees" or anything of the nature. You know what you're getting. You see all the details in your cart. You get your final invoice the day of delivery and your final pay MAY change due to items that need to be weighed. In my case, seemed to be only cents off. The ONLY thing I would note is that not all brands are on FreshDirect, so if you happen to have brand loyalty then the options might throw you. Otherwise, everything you need is here for a reasonable price/alternative to picking it up yourself. Transportation department is terrible. They make their own rules and blow through delivery windows without warning or notice. Sometimes deliveries don't occur on the delivery date and no reschedule date is provided - they show up when they want after missed deliveries and leave groceries outside your door without warning. Spiteful employees drop grocery bags intending to break items. Not OK! read more

It's called FRESH Direct so why does the food come expired? I'm literally so over & done with FD at this point. Every time I order from them something within my box is either expired or a day or two away from expiring & It's always the deli products. It's becoming entirely too much for me to order food that should be fresh and unexpired and then have to call customer service for a refund. I decided to write my review before reding what others wrote, and by the 5 stars u know I am satisfied, very satisfied. They are not perfect since they did not have the basic product of Poland spring water case, and whole wheat bread, but beside that, everything is great. Oh, one more thing, they call them medium potatoes, but they r way too small to be medium... They delivers on time. They wrap everything professionally. They added 2 fresh yellow bananas to a green bunch, and their product have more than a month expiration date. Very professional! First try with FreshDirect (was curious)---A few observations on my experience. 1. Order was supposed to be delivered between 8am-10am. Received a call at 9am that delivery will be an hour delayed. Received my order at 12:15 pm. (How does this simplify my hectic schedule ?????) 2. Delivery man, although friendly, made excuse for being late that the "new system is all screwed up!". 3. Quality of meat was excellent (the reason for at least one star) but I can buy it at The Market Basket (Franklin Lakes), get quality meats, and enjoy EXCELLENT customer service---and choose my own time---I am reliable unlike FreshDirect.
