When they didn't arrive during the scheduled time slot, I had to leave, and asked the building concierge desk to accept my order for me. A couple of hours later, I haven't heard from anyone, so checked my email. No notice of anything awry, but there's a store credit in the amount of about half of my order. Arriving back at my building, concierge says they never showed up. Called customer service and talked to a nice person. Said my order had been damaged. Offered a store credit and to retry the next day. I declined and she credited my credit card. Ruined my weekend cooking plans. read more

Got a promo flyer in the mail for $50 off my first order. I made my order and shared the flyer with a few friends who also ordered. I called at the beginning of my delivery window to confirm my delivery. I waited at home for my delivery, my delivery window was almost gone so I got curious about the status of my delivery. I tried logging in to check my account but couldn't. I called and customer service said they deactivate my account because of an issue with my payment method. To rectify the issue, I needed to call my credit card company, have the credit card company call Freshdirect on 3-way with me to verify my payment. At this point, my payment already posted on my credit card. I called my credit card company and they confirmed that the payment posted. Then Freshdirect reactivated my account and told the delivery person to complete the delivery. I was supposed to receive my delivery between 5 - 7pm but did not receive it until 9pm. I mentioned above that I shared the promo flyer with a few friends, one of whom is a neighbor. My neighbor had a similar issue with Freshdirect cancelling their offer and deactivating their about without notice. They had to put their bank in contact with Freshdirect to verify payment. Similar to my experience, the bank already authorized payment. But out of concern that the order is may be fraudulent, Freshdirect required additional verification with the bank. After verifying the payment with the bank, my neighbor expressed concerns that Freshdirect was being discriminant by flagging orders in our zip code as potential fraud. The supervisor handling the issue disclosed that there is a software that automatically identifies orders as potentially fraudulent, but insisted that zip code is not a factor in the software logic. However, two other people who I shared with flyer with made similar orders (because we do dinner parties) and they received their orders with no issues. Considering my experience and my neighbor's experience, it begs the question: is Freshdirect discriminating against certain neighborhoods by flagging certain orders as potentially fraudulent? read more

They absolutely stand by their products, and on the rare occasion that anything was not right, they fixed it and gave me credit, even for a fairly expensive item. I've been a customer for seven years. Since they moved their warehouse their customer service has taken a nose dive. Two weeks ago my delivery slot was 8 PM to 10 PM. I contacted customer service at 10:15 PM. I was told that it was scanned as delivered at 10:07 PM. That driver's often scan deliveries while the delivery is still on the truck. Order arrived just before 11 PM. I received multiple promises that management would get back to me....that the transportation department would get back to me to explain how a delivery can arrive 50 minutes after it is marked delivered. No one contacted me. For the second week in a row I noticed that when I've ordered some items that are on sale, my final price is higher. I've altered my orders but never changed anything about the sale priced item, the order total or the delivery slot. It was explained to me that if I modify an order in any fashion and the item's price goes up...I pay the higher price. Even though they don't let me know long the sale price is good for or even that the price of an item in my order has gone up. It is my responsibility to check the current price of an item in my order against the price of that item when I originally placed that order. We have been using Fresh Direct for years in Manhattan, but will never use them again. They literally double their prices on certain items in the Hamptons. I thought price gouging was illegal. Our most recent order from Fresh Direct included Tuscan White Bean Soup with a dead insect in it (see photos) which I didn't discover till it was IN MY MOUTH. Most sickening experience ever. I have been a Fresh Direct customer since 2005 - almost since the beginning! I had a toddler, I was moving into a new apartment, and I had a family member coming for Christmas. Help! Fortunately I remembered FD, and placed an order. Christmas was saved, and I didn't have to bring my child to the grocery store, with all the hassles that entailed. Fast forward to 2020 and COVID. I wanted to be in public as little as possible. With a FD membership you can select a weekly delivery slot, and so long as you place an order every week you will not lose your spot so of course, I have ordered every week! There's so much to like about FD, but I'll keep it short: the food is nearly always fresh, and in the event there is a problem (something is broken, missing, etc.) they will give you a credit - no questions asked. I've been ordering from them for over 15 years - I think that speaks for my level of satisfaction! read more

I have been a loyal customer for 10 years. My order today was supposed to arrive between 2-4 pm. It is now after 7 pm and still not here. I called Customer Service and was put on hold at least 15 minutes. When I finally spoke to a supervisor he said the driver with my order "was not answering his phone". As a goodwill gesture they offered $5.75 cents off a $300 order. I told them it was insulting and outrageous. The $5.75 was the delivery fee! That should have been an automatic refund. So here I sit, no food, no answers, and a vague promise that a supervisor will "call me back" when he knows something. I have been enjoying FD shopping for a few years now. They are a nice variety of brands,produce , etc.Anytime the items l ordered have been damaged in shipping or are not up to par, the company has been very good about crediting my account. However, l have close to canceling my subscription many, many times.My major issue is that the grocery bags they bring me are way to heavy. I cannot pick them up but resort to sliding them through my doorway. Even so, this is a backbreaking ordeal. I have complained many times and to date, no one has contacted me to attempt to resolve this problem.This continues to frustrate me to the point in which l may stop placing my weekly orders , or just spend the $30 minimum to prevent giving my membership, which l have already paid for. Recently, it looks like the company is taking more care in packing the bags with greater thought. Up until about a month or so ago. there were occasions when the groceries looked like they were just thrown into their bags. This caused me to make frequent calls to them to complain of damaged goods, such as my produce items.Credit was always applied but it was still Inconvenient and wasteful. Now ( fingers crossed) this is improving, but there has not been any attempt to make the bags lighter. Granted l am older and have the usual maladies such as arthritis, but even my son , who is young and a personal trainer , is concerned about the damage l might do to myself, even by sliding heavy bags around! Fresh Direct is one of the most unprofessional services I have ever encountered. Last week they left one of my bags on the truck. I was told someone would reach out to me within the hour with an update on the driver and that never happened. I had to call three times, not only to get a status update but then to fix the re-order for the missing items because it was incorrect. Tonight, my groceries are an hour late. It is almost midnight and I am still waiting for my order. When I called customer service, I was told the driver is "unreachable" and they only offered to refund the measly shipping fee. Wow, I am surprised to see the reviews here, I think FreshDirect is ahead of their time and better than Amazon Fresh and Jet. I've been able to enjoy local dry sea scallops at 40% off all summer. You can't even find dry scallops in stores, much less at 40% off. Their 4-minute prepared meals have to be among the best value in the country. I have never had anything delivered to me that was bad, and I think only once was a delivery ever late. The local USDA Prime beef is off the charts better than I can get anywhere else, and I am pretty connected with online delivery services. I could rattle through example after example, but the impression I have of FreshDirect is that they really care about their customers. From the people that buy the products and pick and pack the orders, to the drivers who bring my newspaper to the front door, and the most knowledgeable customer service department I have ever called, I don't mind paying a little more to be cared about as much as these people do. How thick do you want your deli slices? Do you want those steaks in vacuum packaging? Sorry we didn't deliver a couple of items in your order, here's $10 off your next order. Here is a list of things you've purchased in the past that are on sale this week. Who does this? No one that I know of. Their customer service has become a disaster. COVID-19 has nothing to do with it. I started using them on their very first month of service and for years they were a lifesaver, I converted scores of friends, I was part of their Chef Table service, etc. Two or three years ago the started going down the drain: I had few incidents and far between for about 15 years, and now it was smelly fish, damaged salad, double or missing items. At first CS was more than willing to take responsibility, now they will put a $5 credit on your account and not redeliver until they feel like it. As a result, they don't care about the next mistake and the story keeps repeating. OK, this is their business model now. As for me, I've got no time to waste. I will delete the app, rely even more on my local stores who REALLY outdid themselves during the pandemic, and turn to Whole Foods in a pinch. read more

I've been a customer of fresh direct since they started. I've put up with them giving me half of the items I order so I don't have things I needed for that night, delivering me things covered in something that spilled, sub par produce and so much more because I like having my groceries delivered but now they can't even do that. I've a door to a delivery room in my building it's always open but fresh direct stands outside then leaves. I call them and they put me on hold for up to 30 minutes and when I talk to them they're sarcastic saying things such as they called and talked to you. I say no I didn't talk to them and they say then who did. I say who ever answered at whatever number they called. They don't say sorry we made you wait all day. My groceries were supposed to be here four hours ago and they won't even call me! I hate this but I'm going to go to the grocery store because fresh direct is no longer any good old food and poor service. They said they'd call me back but didn't. There's a lot to love about FreshDirect. For example, in our house, we love their croissants. Also, we love their stir fry kit. But the delivery situation is consistently incompetent. In my experience they rarely show up in the allotted window that I choose. I don't understand why our schedules don't seem to matter to FreshDirect, when clearly we are paying a premium for this convenience. Sometimes they show up super early and I get a major attitude because I am not home when they show up. Or they are late. And listen, I know these delivery people work really hard and are probably mistreated by customers often, and I see how they do so much heavy lifting, and everyone is usually super friendly, so I ask: why doesn't the management team do a better job of organizing the deliveries? Why are there so many bad reviews about the deliveries and no meaningful response from the company? Last night I was expecting a delivery which I had placed almost a week ago. First I got an email saying they didn't have three items I had ordered. Okay, fine. Then I got a call at the end of my allotted time slot (11 pm) indicating that they would be 45 minutes late. Ok, fine, too. I waited and waited, and I waited, and eventually, I fell asleep because, after all, it was the middle of the night. Then I woke up panicked at 4 am that I missed the delivery, except that I saw I had no missed calls or texts with an explanation. When I called this morning to ask what had happened, they promptly replied and said they gave me a $25 credit for my inconvenience and canceled my order. Except now I'm way more inconvenienced than before because I still have no food in my house and will not get any. So I called the company and asked for them to redeliver it. And guess what? They can't. They looked and exhausted many options and escalated it to their supervisor, and had me on hold for 15 minutes, and they have no time slots for me. But they did give me a big apology and an additional credit. They do have nice people working there when you call them on the phone. But that's not the point. So thanks, FreshDirect, for messing up my flow. Now I gotta drag my kid all over the place on his last day of summer, including to our skanky neighborhood FoodTown, and fifteen other places to try to piece together my order. It's time to move on. I've been using FreshDirect happily for years. The last three months have been very bad. But I kept going back, thinking maybe this time it will be different. Nope. They are consistently at least one to two hours late on the agreed upon delivery window. If you aren't there to receive the late delivery, you can reschedule- for a different day. If you're having, say, a BBQ that day, well, you're out of luck. Hold times are at least a half hour and every time at least 5 items are missing from the order and reimbursed. Customer service reps are paid to basically shrug their shoulders when you call. One time, nothing on my order was available and I got an email saying, sorry, we are out of everything you ordered, here's a refund. And... I just saw Amazon Prime now delivers to my neighborhood. They missed my delivery window (7-9pm) and told me it's 60 min delayed. Still no delivery. Called customer service and said it'll be delivered in the next 45 minutes. I stay up to wait... no delivery. Call customer service at 12:30AM (way past my bedtime) and they said estimated delivery is 12:15AM.. right.. that can't be correct (his words, not mine). I used to love FD. Dispite mistakes here and there like one missing item, cracked eggs on arrival, etc... I had the convenience of getting my groceries delivered. But my last order was the worst by far. Half my order missing! I called many times at no veil. Customer service will supposedly call me back but never does. I sent 2 emails already but they don't write back. They used to answer in less than 24 hours and offer refunds or store credit. All I want now is a refund for the missing items but it doesn't seem like I'll get one any time soon. I will explore other options like Amazon fresh or peapod even if that means losing all the months I have left on my annual delivery pass already paid for. I would give a negative number if I could. They showed up a week ago Sunday with half my order, saying the rest would arrive "later." The only person who's ever responded to me about this order was over twitter- no calls returned, no emails returned. I asked them to cancel and fully refund. I wound up with, again, half my order the following Wed. (basically the same half, lol) and while they did refund some of the order, I still have a store credit of almost $40. This is my first experience with FD and it has been a nightmare, up to this very minute, as I write this! I'm waiting for a callback from the nice customer service lady. Well, the first one I spoke to was also very nice, but she put me on hold long enough for me to cook dinner with what remaining food I have in my apartment. Then the survey came on--I gave it all 1's and one 'No'. And that was the end of that call. I called back...The reason I was calling in the first place involves an order I attempted to place, in vain I will add, just before Christmas. I'm trying to spend some now but they keep cancelling my gift card, telling me I have only $34.00, or zed because 'this card has already been used' per the FD eSite. Oh Fresh Direct, why are you doing this to me? I get that you're moving to a new facility- but maybe- just maybe- you should have suspended services for a bit, got your act together, and started up again when you were ready- because clearly, you ain't ready. My latest fiasco started yesterday morning when I didn't get my confirmation email. From a previous experience, I already know that spells trouble. After a call back from your lame customer service (because their new thing is "estimated hold times are at least 45 mins"), a rep called back and assured me the order was en route. Fine- the order was "only" a half hour late- but $145 worth of groceries were missing. Again, I place a call, again I wait- finally get a call back. The rep goes through the order with me, we go through the missing items, she schedules the replacement order for Tuesday evening. I get a confirmation email- 5 items are missing from the replacement order due to her incompetence. This time I email because I no longer am going to waste time waiting for a phone call. Fast forward to this morning- still no email. I call. There's STILL a 45 minute wait time. They call back- but they can't investigate because THEIR COMPUTERS ARE DOWN. Two hours later (as I lose precious moments of my life I can't get back) they call again, they tell me they can't modify the replacement order, and issue me a credit for the items they couldn't add to the replacement order. I spend thousands at Fresh Direct every year, and have been with them since they started delivering to Queens- but I'm sure Amazon Fresh would love my business. read more

I started using them when I lived in Brooklyn. The delivery service started out really great, with polite, hardworking folks who are punctual and honest. Then, slowly, it went downhill. So I stopped, thinking they may need time to figure out their Brooklyn operations. They began offering services to where I live now so I signed on. The first four delivery was once again superb. Don't feel like descending 3 flights of stairs, walking 7 blocks, and lugging your insanely heavy grocery bags back the way you came...? Fresh Direct. Too much work and not enough time to peruse the aisles as the grocery store...? Fresh Direct. Too cold to go outside? Thunder and lightening? Favorite movie on TV? Feel like doing something nice for your grandma...? Fresh Direct! I initially had trouble setting up my account, but one phone call was all it took to clarify the problem - which, by the way, was that I used Google Chrome to place my order, and the Fresh Direct site is not compatible with this web browser (!!). So for you Google Chrome users: use Firefox instead. Because I had never been on the site, I didn't know what to expect. I was pleased as punch (yes, really) to discover that they have an entire "Organic Market" offering fresh fruits and veggies, meats, soups, and cereals. There is a "search" function which makes it really easy to find specific items you're craving (let's just say, for example, Ben & Jerry's Heath Bar Crunch) or have run out of (paper towels & laundry detergent, perhaps). There is something incredibly satisfying about putting all of these items into your basket and not having to carry it around. Fresh Direct also sells wine, ranging in price from $9 to $50, with the option to buy in bulk (hollerrrrr!). They also sell Organic Cucumber Vodka, Glenlivet single malt scotch, Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, 6-packs of Newcastle, and cases of Hoegaarden. And they bring it right to your door. Our first and last order. We ordered a few items and a case of soda. Wanted to see if shopping with them might be an option. The case of soda was not delivered. The driver didn't know where it was. When my husband called they said they could not say when they would deliver the item as they didn't have it and they wouldn't issue a refund for 48 hours. They also did not respond to my emails or twitter messages. Fresh Direct has no right to charge customers for items they do not have, they didn't even contact me before delivery of my order to say the item was out of stock. As I was typing up my complaint to the better business burea the soda showed up. Later in the evening someone shows up with the soda. The next day (today) I get an email they have credited me for the non delivered soda, I had to contact them to wake them up and say it was delivered hours later. Here are things I wouldn't bother buying elsewhere--water, cans of soup, sodas, juices. I used to find the fruits and other perishables to be of questionable quality until recently. For these reasons and many others, Fresh Direct is everything it is cracked up to be. Fresh Direct is cheaper than your neighborhood grocery store. Fresh Direct is often times fresher than your neighborhood grocery store. To hear (or read in the reviews) someone complain that the food only lasts three days is abominable. Fresh Direct tells you how long it will last and when it says three days that means it is fresh, not frozen, and that is good, right? Some people like to go through the aisles at supermarkets, but those people are not me. I prefer to run my cart directly into those who are not paying attention when leaving an aisle or those who talk on their phone while trying to push with one hand. Some people like to go to the market when they are hungry and come home with a bunch of crap because you saw it and had to have it, but those people have been me, but not anymore. I prefer to use my last shopping list and then adjust. I prefer to get a mix of ready-to-heat sides or meals, as well as tons of fresh vegetables and fruits and cases of Tazo green iced tea. I honestly do not have a clue why everyone does not use Fresh Direct. The features are much enhanced from a couple of years ago, you can see what fruits and vegetables are the freshest each day and hello again, the prices are cheaper than your neighborhood grocery where a box of cereal is like $6 or more. Try it, you will live by it. Also, if you have a six-year old daughter who decides one day to become a vegetarian, Fresh Direct can be a valuable resource for alternative protein sources (edamame dumplings, seitan, vegetarian prepared meals) and fresh items so you can test out and support this endeavor. If there were a Trader Joe's or H-Mart on campus, would I be using FreshDirect? Definitely not. Since most people don't live within walking distance of one anyway, FreshDirect really wins for its incredible convenience, great customer service, farm-fresh, locally-sourced and good-quality meats & veggies, and awesome discounts and giveaways. Is FreshDirect cheap? No, definitely not. If prices comes above all else, FreshDirect is not for you. If you're environment-conscious, quality-seeking, budget-conscious and flexible, however, you can make FreshDirect work. I've seen four heads of broccoli go for $4, cut-up whole chicken parts for $1/lb, two bunches of kale for $4 and great quality salmon for $6.99/lb. The FreshDirect brand actually offers pretty great quality and relatively low prices; my roommate was stunned by the quality of milk that I bought for her - "I've never had milk taste so good! I'm addicted to this milk [insert emoji with hearts for eyes]." (I'm not a milk drinker so I don't really know what she means, but she adores it. And she "spoils" herself by getting FreshDirect milk. I think that speaks to how good it is). The other day, I asked my friend to get me skinless, boneless chicken thighs from Trader Joe's, thinking that they'd be cheaper. It turns out that they were $4/lb at TJ and $3.19/lb on FreshDirect (sale). Oops. So sometimes FreshDirect is actually cheaper! Crazy, huh? They've done random giveaways in the past; I'm not sure how they work. This whole month, though, they've been doing giveaways every few days and they've been really great so far. I've gotten to try chobani flip yogurt, matcha love green tea, kale banana pineapple popsicles, quark - and more. :O FreshDirect also supplies non-food household items - paper towels, lightbulbs, laundry detergent, etc. The 1-day shipping is amazing because it's even faster than Amazon Prime (and often cheaper, too). Definitely has been a lifesaver when I ran out of toilet paper. :x Customer service is super responsive and really great (aka refunds, no questions asked). When my eggs broke a few times, they credited me immediately. The other day, I was surprised that my pre-sliced ribs ($12) were actually not pre-sliced - not a big deal, but I wanted to know what was up with the slicing because I'd rather not order non-sliced meat in the future. I emailed them and they promptly credited me. Overall, I have zero complaints against FreshDirect. I have never had a messed up order and all of my food has been excellent quality (no spoilage or rottenness). The $30 minimum forces me to compile a grocery list for a week at a time, and the time that it sits in the cart allows me to reevaluate whether or not I really want those items. I find that I don't buy random things as often, and I've had much less food waste than I had in the past. I've ordered from FreshDirect over 30 times in the past 7 months and I'm really happy with my experience so far. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in grad school (or really, anyone with a busy schedule). Fandom! Though some items are wee bit more expensive than usual, I definitely need a little more Fresh Direct in my busy life schedule. Sometimes, I just don't have time in my life to grocery shop which results in lots of ordering in when I'm at home which results in me not eating as healthy as I'd like which results in bigger jeans which results in me being really friggin' mad. Fresh Direct has changed that for me, at least this week. My order of fresh berries, fruits, salad, deli meat and cereals has made my kitchen and me very happy this week (as I slurp down my homemade smoothie). Yes, some items tend to be a wee bit more expensive. Yes, you can't touch, smell or feel any of the food, and yes sometimes I don't realize that 1 lbs of potatoes = 2 potatoes but, I still love ya and I'll still give ya my business during my busy season! Used to be great but they have definitely taken a downturn lately. Lots of missing items without being informed ahead of time. Lots of items unavailable or removed from order just before delivery. I hope they get their act together soon. read more

Judging from all of the dissatisfied customers I see posting on their FB page, I see that I am not the only one having issues with #freshdirect. What happened? The service was always good; I hardly every had something to complain about. But lately, Fresh Direct has been awful. On repeated deliveries I received advance emails letting me know that an item (or items) I ordered is out of stock. Since they didn't deliver what their website indicated was available, I was forced to go out and shop for it. Well, what then is the point of using their service? Today, a product was damaged during delivery. The packing was done poorly. I phoned at 1:45 p.m. to notify them but had to opt for having their service calling me back due to high call volume. It is now over 4.5 hours later and I have yet to be contacted. Fresh Direct has been moving their location to a newer facility but this transition has been horribly managed. Their service has suddenly become unreliable and they are not adequately built to manage the concerns of their clients. I would look for other options first if you are looking for a grocery delivery service. read more

Is this how lazy we've become as a society in which a small company has begun thriving to deliver pre-selected groceries to your doorstep? In a word, yes. Its not even laziness either, as much as it is convenience. The prices for FreshDirect are usually not outrageous, if not borderline reasonable. If reasonable prices combined with direct mailing is worth it, then thats what these folks do best. The variety is good and the delivery times are fast. Most of the people I've dealt with in person or on the phone have been pleasant and courteous. If there were any screw ups in the order, they would be quick to replace and send immediately. Hopefully one of these days they'll be available to other places around the country, other than Manhattan. read more

I ordered from them from time to time, but I recently couldn't live with myself from ever ordering from Fresh Direct again. (They also have been late a couple of times - outside the delivery window!) Sure, it's convenient and no need to carry a bunch of things or trying to hail a cab while juggling groceries... But you can't pick how hard and crunchy you want your fruit to be and not to mention the most important thing of all - PACKAGING! It finally occurred to me how wasteful I was being and just for the sake of convenience I am willing to kill so many trees? OMG, Fresh Direct like packs like 1 bag of loose spinach in 1 huge box and then I got 4 more boxes to pack my 1 whole pineapple, two pint of soup and chocolate croissant. It's ridiculous how much they waste on packaging here. I am taking my reusable bag and hollering at WHOLE FOODS to get my Oh SO Crunchy Nectarines and Peaches! YAYERS! read more
