Fresh Direct really screwed up our Thanksgiving delivery today. As an addition to our order my daughter purchased tater tots and fries for other meals. Fresh Direct sent her a message that those extra items were not available and issued a refund. We sat expecting the Thanksgiving dinner meal to be delivered. When the delivery came all he left was the tater tots and fries and not the Thanksgiving meal. She asked him and he said it's lost or that was all he had for her. She called and most of our items for Thanksgiving are sold out now. She's making arrangements for a change in menu and they say they will now deliver our Thanksgiving meal tomorrow. At least she's working from home tomorrow because I am in no condition to do anything! Of all the times for my daughter to be stressed this is the worst. One Star! read more

They use AI customer service when you call, they miss bags, don't ring my bell to alert they are here, and crush all the delicate food

We have been regular Fresh Direct customers for all our weekly groceries since the early 2000s. For the most part, we were very happy with the service over the years. Not perfect, but mostly pretty good. Until the last eight weeks or so. Fresh Direct have recently engaged a third-party delivery service that is absolutely terrible. I would rate them a minus 5 stars. Our food is now delivered (if it shows up at all) by some random person in their own car and has been consistently damaged, missing items, unrefrigerated and completely defrosted, and with replacement items that aren't even in the ballpark of the original product ordered. We have no idea how long anything has been sitting in the back of their car because, as I mentioned, everything is room temperature when delivered. Not good. Not good at all. We have also had to call several times each week to find out where our delivery is, where missing items are, get refunds for damaged items, etc. When something is actually delivered, nobody rings our doorbell so the food just sits there unless our cameras are triggered and we go out to look for it. It's a tremendous inconvenience to have to spend time and effort dealing with calling, waiting on hold, speaking with someone, getting transferred to someone else, and on and on for something that used to work nearly seamlessly. It's all a function of this ridiculous change to their delivery personnel. Whoever made this decision in FD management should be required to have all their food delivered by this service. Nothing better than a $60 steak that's been in a hot car all day. There are lots of competitors out there and FD has lost us as loyal customers of more than 20 years. Our neighbors are also experiencing the same issues. It's not looking great for FD in Westchester. I guess profits over customer service works in the short term. At this rate I doubt if FD will even in business in a year. Don't waste your money, precious time, and frustration on Fresh Direct. We have tried for the last two months to make it work, but, if anything, the service has declined even further. They clearly just don't care about their customers. We've started using a competitor and it's been a much better experience. Prices are 15-30% less for the exact same items, they arrive when scheduled and are intact. Unless Fresh Direct gets their delivery service back to a high standard, we will be moving on permanently. What's the point of having your groceries delivered if it becomes more of an inconvenience than just going to the store? read more

Shopper didn't deliver the majority of my order. It's not that it was out of stock, they just didn't deliver it and I was charged for the entire order, including their tip. When I contacted Fresh Direct they tried to only refund me for the items that weren't delivered. I asked about the delivery fee and the tip. Why should I have to pay this when I received 10% of my order. After a very long chat session, I finally got the majority refunded but I shouldn't have to fight for it. Tips should be included after delivery, like Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods. That way, if the shopper does something like this, they don't receive a tip they don't deserve. Tips are earned. read more

When a company is delivering fresh food, including frozen food, and cannot follow simple instructions, they should not be offering their service. For 3 consecutive weeks we have asked that the delivery be left with the building doorman and stored in the refrigerator, and every week they leave it outside our door. We have complained and they even have delivery instructions showing the requirement, but apparently this is beyond their competence level. We don't get home until the next day, so food would be ruined. Fortunately alert doormen let us know. Apparently expecting a basic level of service from Fresh Direct is too much to ask. read more

For the past few weeks, the delivery windows on Friday and Saturday mornings/early afternoons have not been available. I live in the Yankee Stadium area. I was finally able to make a standing reservation for Sat 9a-11a and placed my order on Wed afternoon and received confirmation for Apr 2, 2026. This morning, Thu April 30, I received a call saying that time was no longer available, would I be interested in a Saturday late afternoon into evening delivery. That didn't work but somehow all of Sunday was available. What is happening with Friday and Saturday deliveries? Are they gone completely from my area leaving only Sundays? I've been a delivery pass member from the time they came to the Bronx. I've called customer service several times and they don't have answers. On 4/12,FD 's order missing main items. After 4 phone calls and one chat, I am told the same thing over & over, that my SNAP account has been credited and there is nothing they can do & that I should contact the SNAP office. After contacting SNAP, they say refund was never received and are sending me a letter to present Fresh Direct confirming that the refund was never received. The FD customer service is one of the worst I have ever dealt with. I asked a supervisor to send me an email stating the refund was issued so I could take it to SNAP to show them that FD was claiming they made such refund. She stated she would have to present it to her team to evaluate if they would be willing to write the email! Being 150th in the phone queue but never getting a call back. Having food delivered at 2am after we're already in bed. It's pretty clear that this company is in major trouble. I have been using Fresh Direct for about 5 years, I like their food. And while they once didn't deliver my fresh Thanksgiving Turkey on time, I have been mostly satisfied. What I am now having problems with are the deliveries. I always seem to get someone in a van with my food stored in a moving crate, and I think the only cooling source is my frozen food on top thawing. Yesterday I threw everything away because my meat was hot and all of my frozen food completely thawed and mushy. I've been a customer since 2008. Have used them in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. Occasionally, there are hiccups, but customer service is usually very efficient in giving you credit back if something is missing or damaged. Their prices are on par for the most part, or better than most grocery stores in Manhattan. Some of their produce leaves a bit to be desired, but I still shop for it here when there are sales. Their real star products for me, are their meal kits and 4-minute meals. They're very tasty and easy to prepare and much less expensive than ordering in. I'm a Chef's Table and Delivery Pass member, so there are often deep discounts and free product trials. I've learned about so many new products, thanks to these benefits. All in all, I do recommend it, especially if you don't have the patience for grocery store visits. read more

I'm a longtime Freshdirect member and I truly appreciate their service and selection of fresh food, alcohol and meals. You can literally order the night before if you need something in a pinch. The delivery people are always friendly. They now have a good selection of wine and liquor as well. I really like their desserts. Grocery delivery is truly a godsend for those of us without cars - it definitely beats schlepping groceries on public transportation and this is how I justify delivery fees- thinking about all the time, effort and money I'm not spending on gorcery shopping. read more

Do you enjoy waiting around for a delivery that misses its promised delivery window and then shows up (not exaggerating here) with half the order missing? Then you call customer service and someone located abroad tells you sorry they can get you SOME of your missing items to you express and that will be there four hours later (makes you wonder how they define the word "express"). Plot twist: that express, emergency order arrives three hours late as well! You can not make up this level of incompetence. Go ahead and search for reviews online. This is common with Fresh Direct. There is an entire subreddit dedicated to the chaos they cause in people's lives. The staff that work their call center must get paid handsomely because that level of curtness and blithe disinterest in your problems cannot come cheap. And when the second half of my original order finally arrived? All the eggs were broken so I had to spend more time washing egg yolk off my vegetables and then calling customer service (again!) to beg to have the eggs refunded. Last week I had 6 prepared meals delivered. The ordering process was easy and the delivery arrived on time. I already have had 5 of the 6 meals and must confess that not a single one was worth the cost of $10-15 dollars. I ordered a variety of pasta, chicken, turkey, beef and salmon. I didnt like the taste of any of them. If haven't eaten the salmon and asparagus yet, but I unfortunately don't have much hope for that. I can't speak on anyone else's negative experiences. All I know is that whenever something is not to our satisfaction, Fresh Direct always always makes it right. The customer service is unparalleled. Do you know how difficult it is to have to go back to a store and try to get a refund on something that has spoiled or expired? It's like torture, but not so with Fresh Direct. All you have to do is go to the help section of their app, and put in for a credit and voilà, in less than 24 hours your credit appears for the next order. Thankfully having to do this is very rare but it's nice to know that it's there. I'd say about 98% of their food items are of very high-quality. For example, their house made lobster salad is phenomenal. I just made myself a lobster roll sandwich using Martin's long buns that I bought from Fresh Direct and it was the same or better than if I would've bought it outside and for a fraction of the cost. The delivery guys are always very polite and accommodating. They work extremely hard, so I always tip them well. We've been using Fresh Direct for about five years now, and I can say with absolute certainty that we will never go back. Very highly recommend. read more

I have used FD since 2012. It has gone steadily downhill since the original owner sold the business. Ahold Delhaize (parent company of Peapod) and Centerbridge Partners bought the FD in 2021. There was a noticeable decline in product quality, availability, and pricing immediately. The company was sold again in 2023 to Getir, a Turkish company which specializes in rapid delivery of groceries and restaurant items. These deliveries are made primarily on scooters. From the start Getir seemed unfamiliar in dealing with delivery trucks, union drivers, and full grocery orders. Since the company, in their home country, is known for RAPID delivery, I would have expected to see more timeslots, but instead there are fewer. The slots that are available fill up fast and customers often have to wait for a delivery two days down the road. I am consistently receiving items that are obviously damaged while being packed. Bread is consistently placed on the bottom of the bag and watermelons, cans, and anything else heavy thrown on top of the bread. Eggs are left to roll about in the bag in transit and I rarely get a dozen eggs that are not broken. Vegetables often have freezer damage, even in summer months. While FD's customer service people always refund the money for these items, it leaves me needing to shop elsewhere immediately. The quality, selection, and price is not competitive. I frequently get rotten produce, produce that is not labeled organic (I have bought my organic items exclusively from FD over the year and have never gotten an organic item that was not labeled as such.) I have repeatedly asked customer service to have a manager call me to explain why these labels are no longer on the product and nobody has ever called me back. It is impossible to get a beef roast that I want (They haven't offered a rump, bottom round in years!) The only post roast I can get from FD is a local Angus RWA chuck roast at $13.00/lb. That's over $55.00! I can get a certified Angus PRIME RWA from Shoprite for around $20.00 or a LOCAL Prime certified RWA Angus chuck roast from a butcher in Bayonne for $25.00 I am limited to the thickness of any steak that I buy, when I use to be able to choose the thickness. I just looked for hot dogs, doing a side by side comparaison with Shoprite's prices. FD was asking $10.19 (reg. price) for Nathan's Bun Length 8 pack Beef Franks compared to Shoprite's $5.49 (reg. price) for EXACTLY the same itiem. The seafood department offers ¼ of the selection they had several years ago and it is seldom fresh. I understand from financial reports that Getir is under pressure from its investors to cut operating costs and increase dividends. They appear to be doing this at the expense of once loyal customers. I had allowed my delivery pass to expire last summer and then thought I'd give FD one last chance. I won't be continuing after my delivery pass expires this time. There delivery drivers are superb and their customer service representatives are incredible. They are the only reasons that I give FD ONE STAR. read more

I've been a loyal customer for about four years and have always appreciated their food quality and customer service. However, something seems to have changed. I placed an order today for delivery between 1 PM and 3 PM--an important one for a dinner party. At 4 PM, I received a notification saying the order was delayed but still on its way. By 5:30 PM, nothing had arrived, so I checked my account, only to find a message saying, "Contact customer service." When I reached out, I was told my order couldn't be delivered because the bag was damaged in transit. While that's already frustrating, what truly upset me was how they handled it afterward. I spoke with two customer service representatives, and all they told me was, "The order amount was just authorized, not charged, so feel free to place another order. The funds will be released back to your card in 2-3 days." I explained that this was unacceptable for two reasons: No one informed me about the issue--I had to find out on my own that my order was never going to arrive. I wasn't given the option for a refund or a re-delivery, even if it meant a later time or the next day. I then requested that, instead of refunding me, they simply process a replacement order. To my shock, the customer service agent responded, "We are not going to give you free food. If you want food, you will have to pay with your own money." Where did this accusation even come from? I never asked for free food. I only asked that they take responsibility for their mistake and send me the order I had originally placed. They could settle the issue with their delivery team--I had done nothing wrong. This is simply not the way to do business. The lack of sincerity in fixing the situation or even offering a proper apology is deeply disappointing. Congratulations--you've just lost a loyal customer. I have been a FD customer for years. All has been good...until today. My order was scheduled to arrive between 2 and 8 pm. It finally arrived at 10 pm. Long story short. They never notified me about the delay so I called customer service several times. The second person I spoke to was Stanley. I told him I was hard of hearing and could he please speak a little louder. He said, I don't shout into the phone for anyone. EXCUSE ME? He just violated the ADA, which mandates that a business's refusal to provide reasonable communication accommodation to a hard of hearing person may be a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). And when I asked him if he said the estimated time of delivery was 10 times, he said "if that's what I said."Of course, I reported this to a customer service supervisor who was appalled at Stanley's attitude and apologized profusely. I hope this is relayed to corporate. If I choose to place another order with FD, it will be for a morning time slot. Last few weeks have been awful. Just opened a loaf of Fresh Direct Multi-Grain bread that had been frozen for a week or two for preservation - it developed black mold in the freezer. Last week they came an hour early, and the bag was flooded with milk although nothing was leaking - they had just put the items in a flooded bag. two years ago, I was adding things to my card and it was getting closer to the holidays and fresh direct. Remove these items from my out of desperation for other customers, and I was very upset. However, on the day of delivery, they added extra things to my door and I was very impressed. This year I ordered a medium size and as always it is delicious. The turkey is you follow the although I do have to admit the root vegetables mostly but the gentleman dropped it at my door and ran and didn't get the tip that I think he deserved but yes, I from them again. And my in-laws from them every single year 2 giant turkeys and so many side dishes they are so happy with them. I wish I had more pictures besides the turkey that just came out of the oven, but you need to understand that everything has to be put in once turkey comes out so it was delicious. read more

I have been a member since 2018. I will NOT be renewing my membership when it expires in December. I am a senior living on Social Security. I not drive. Although their prices are very high I was willing to pay them for the convenience of delivery since I would have to take a cab to the supermarket. I subscribe to the lowest cost delivery plan. $39 (plus tax) for mid-week delivery for 6 months. When gas prices surged a couple of years ago FD added a $1.28 weekly "fuel surcharge" (without notice). As gas prices stabilized that charge was never dropped. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that the "fuel surcharge" was renamed to "service fee" and raised to $1.99 per delivery - again without notice! I called customer service and was told that one of the determining factors was the congestion pricing in Manhattan. I don't live in Manhattan. What that "service fee" means is that on a yearly basis I would be paying $78 plus tax for one year of delivery (2x $39). The service fee will add up to $104 for a one year period -- making the service fee HIGHER than my delivery pass! My average order (food and wine) is about $118 weekly - so ultimately the loss is Fresh Direct's! read more

Beware of incompetence from FreshDirect. I had placed an large order on Monday for a gathering. The shipment was scheduled for a Saturday afternoon delivery. When the delivery arrived, over half the items were missing. Namely over $100 worth of steaks and oysters are missing (which was the main thing for the gathering) There were no explanation given. I called their customer service, and they couldn't figure out why the items would be missing. They tried to contact their transportation and told me that they can't get an answer. They told me the order "might still arrive" but would be as late as 9pm. This is unacceptable. How can they expect customers to receive only half of their order without explanation? They had days before delivery to sort out the order and they can't figure out that the order is incomplete on the date of delivery? When contacting their customer service, their own people can't get an update or a direct answer from transportation. Do they expect their customers would be glad that only half of their order showed up and not knowing why? Does their transportation think it would be fine to leave out a big chuck of an order without telling anyone? Does their operation would think that it would be fine to only fulfill half of an order without notifying their customer? Ridiculous. read more

A friend gifted me a box of produce. Although I wasn't being charged, I was forced to add my credit card to receive the box. The produce was good, as was the delivery. However, after the delivery was received, I wanted to delete my credit card. That's where the problems began. There wasn't any way to delete it on the website, so I contacted customer service. The agent told me he would do it for me. When I checked later, the card was still visible. I called another agent who told me it should have been deleted and she tried. She wasn't successful and first told me the problem was that I didn't enter my card as a true credit card! What?? Then she said if I ordered from Fresh Direct a few more times I should be able to delete the card. I asked her if she really thought that made sense and she finally said, no. At that point, I asked for a supervisor and after a ten minute hold, was told the supervisor didn't need to speak to me. It was suggested I just take a screen shot of the page where my credit was showing so the tech department would see there was no option to delete it. While not happy with any of this, I still decided to give it a shot. I took the screenshot and emailed it to customer service. Of course, nobody got back to me. So I wrote again. After about five or six emails with different agents, I discovered they were all saying the same thing: If I wanted to have an account with Fresh Direct, I needed a card on file. I was told if I added another card, I would then be able to delete the first one. This was so infuriating because I had already told each agent I had NO interest in having an account with Fresh Direct! Clearly, nobody was reading what I was writing. The last agent I spoke with said there was just no way to delete the card and all they could do was to deactivate my account. It's very hard to believe that a company as large as Fresh Direct doesn't have the capability of deleting one credit card! It does make you wonder why they want to keep the cards. Even if the account appears deactivated, is it really? Do employees truly not have access to these cards? I don't know the answers, but the way I was treated definitely fuels speculation that there is more here than meets the eye. Regrettably, I can no longer give FD five stars as I did in 2020 given the horrendous delivery/transportation services that I have been receiving over the past several weeks. Orders left by door with no notifications or even a courtesy knock. Items damaged enroute. Missing items too. FD took away all of my delivery notifications and thus far has been unable to restore.
