I wouldn't eat food from here if you paid me to do it.
The building they put this doughnut shop in used be an automotive building owned by Hires. When they opened, they had done a lot of remodeling, which I'll admit did make it look very nice.
I went in one day to pick up some doughnuts for my family, and as my mother absolutely loves sour cream doughnuts, I asked if they had any available. (Only because I had scoured through the cases and came up empty handed.)
The girl behind the counter asked me to wait a moment while she checked in the back.
As I stood there, admiring their gorgeous muffins on display, and trying to determine if I would rather enjoy a muffin with my coffee instead, I caught some movement out of the corner of my line of sight.
To my absolute horror, I saw a large insect crawling across the floor behind the counter. I prayed that it wasn't true... but as I leaned over the display to get a better view my fears were quickly realized. A cockroach... as I started looking around I saw more of them. Aghast I left immediately before the girl returned.
I broke the news to my parents about why they were not going to be getting doughnuts that morning, and immediately called the owner to let them know, thinking that any health conscious business owner would want to take care if an infestation immediately. When I called and notified the gentleman, he told me that I was wrong. In broken English he informed me that they didn't have roaches, and that they were in a brand new building. I corrected him that while it was a new location for their business, the building has actually been there for more than 20 years, and likely the insects were stirred up by the recent construction. He hung up on me.
I called the health department and notified them.
This was shortly after they had opened. and for all I know now they've cleaned it up...but still being cuckolded like a child for reporting a serious health hazard on top of being completely disgusted has made me resolute to never go back. read more
