PLEASE READ FULL REVIEW. The shop is located off the freeway and it does not look like your modern shops; however, there is no need to worry. There is a lock on the door and you must be "buzzed" in because there are a lot of solicitors and neighborhood locals that like to stop. New customers are always the individuals that feel unsafe and reference the area as "hood." Walk-ins are welcomed; BUT, everyone KNOWs TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. So please don't expect to be waited on immediately. If you make an appointment, it will be rare that the ladies will be behind. It it mainly due to the previous customer running late. The ladies will work nonstop to make sure everyone is taken care of... I've witnessed this on several occasions, especially on weekends and holidays. Most people, including men, will come for pedicures and manicures. Spring & Kim are the BEST and will NOT Rush through your services. I've seen some horrible feet over the years and they put their time in. If you remember the episode of Martin when Myra needed a pedicure yeah it's like that. They will take their time to remove any/ all dead skin from your feet. And that's why I believe so many men come without their wives. Lol, they know to book their own appointments. Tina is the main lady that does nails and her customers will not let anyone else touch their hand but her. Thus, you will be waiting. I love how she takes her time shaping your nails properly and cleaning your cuticles. There have been times when I was not happy (ugly colors I chose) with my nails & Tina took the time to redo without an attitude and additional charge. Overall, you will notice that this shop has very loyal customers. I've been attending this shop w/my grandmother as a kid and I am an middle age adult. And like most customers, I rather come here for good quality service and family laugh. Everyone talks to everyone here. Even if you speak Spanish, the ladies have a little learned from over the years and will make sure you're included in the conversation as well. You won't find many reviews from their regular customers, because most of them are older and really don't turn to Yelp for reviews. So the reviews posted will not be from your 20+ years customers... it's from the NewNews that just googled "nail shops near me" PS. Prices have been the SAME for over $20 years. The older I got, the more I didn't want acrylics. Whenever I asked about anything else, I felt pressured to select the option they already decided would be best for me. So for the longest time, I stopped getting my nails done. I remember the first time I saw my friend's nails. They were so long and beautiful. So I asked her where she got her nails done and if they were extensions. I was shocked when she told me that they were her natural nails! I couldn't believe her. That's what she told me about Gigi and her structured manicure. I booked my first appointment back in the summer of 2022. I was just shocked at how long my nails grew without breakage after the first month, and how much knowledge she has when it comes to nails. I get so many compliments whenever I get my nails done! So many people ask if I have extensions. And they are shocked to find out that these are my natural nails. Plus her designs are always on point! What I love the most about going to Gigi is that she is very versatile. She knows how to do Acrylics, gel X, and structured manicures (just to name a few). Also, she doesn't pressure you to get a particular service just to get it. She asks you what you want, and she will walk you through the process if you are a new client. For my nail journey, my goal was to stop using extensions and focus more on my natural nails. I usually kept my nails short, because they would break off easily when they got too long. I felt like the only way I could ever get the length I wanted was by doing extensions. And there's nothing wrong with the extensions. I think everyone has something that works for them, but I know I wanted to utilize my natural nails. I have been coming to Gigi for almost a year, and I'm going to keep going back because my nails grow so long. Also, I don't have issues with breakage. In the year time frame, I think my nails have only broken off once, and that was because I was being reckless. At first, I was a little scared of trying this place out because of the price being on the friendlier side ($35) but I thought I'd give it a shot and I am so glad I did. Parking: My appointment was on a Thursday at noon and I'm going to warn y'all that the parking situation was a little tough when I went. The main lot was filled which made me resort to street parking- that being said, I'd get to the area a little early just in case this happens. Location: The spa is on the second floor in suite 200. When you open the door, Color Theory will be directly to your right (if you see the cute chair that's in the picture that I took, you're in the right place)! Immediately when I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the owner and felt super welcomed! Experience: Although some people love it when spa's have a huge selection of colors to choose from, I personally get overwhelmed and anxious since I'm the world's most indecisive person lol. But Color Theory has carefully picked out nail polishes that are quality in both color and ingredients (their nail polishes and sugar scrubs are all about gentle beauty which means non-toxic & organic which I absolutely love). While I was getting my toes done, I was talking to the owner and I was honestly really inspired. Her story/mission encompassed so much passion and dedication in providing the best experience to customers. She really takes into account her own experiences from being a customer at nail salons and implements it to her small business. The sugar scrub massage felt great and left my leg/foot feeling silky and smooth. And it was lavender infused to it smelled amazing and felt so calming. As for my toes, they were cleaned and painted very well! I got the shellac/gel and I've had them for over week now- so far so good! Overall: Unlike many places, Color Theory truly focuses on providing the best possible experience for customers. Nowadays, most salons are all about getting people in/out as fast as possible and getting the most amount of profit but this place is the opposite and focuses on one customer at a time. That being said, I don't think they accept walk ins but I could be wrong so I'd double check (either way, I'd either call them to set up an appointment to plan ahead of time) Also, I wanted to take a moment to mention how clean this place is- usually, I don't love going to nail salons because it's not the most sanitary but Color Theory prioritizes cleanliness/sanitation. The counters are sanitized thoroughly after every client, the foot bathtubs are sprayed/cleaned very well, etc. I also love that this is a black woman owned business which I haven't seen very often when visiting nail salons. Plus the owner is a mother so huge props! Overall, I cannot recommend Color Theory enough and whenever I need my nails done, I will only be coming back to this salon!
