So I'm starting out by praising the park as a concert venue to make up for my gripes about Central Park and PNC Bank Arts Center. I enjoyed the free De La Soul show here, which had good sound quality and a pleasant setup where you could opt for a close-up viewing of Eye Know and Me Myself and I or just roam around and still hear it. I wish I remembered who had the Yelp reviews that mostly focused on bathrooms, but park regulars know about the bathroom sort of near the LIRR train. It's not as glamorous or as clean as Bryant Park but it's mostly ok and open later than one might expect. The park isn't offering a wilderness facsimile like parts of Prospect Park but you can see birds and there are nice plants. The Unisphere is legendary.

However, it didn't carry out due to the Throgs Neck Bridge construction and the fiscal crisis of the 1970s. And Parks renamed the property's present name in 1973, from Clearview Park. Bayside, originally inhabited by the Matinecock tribe, was granted to William Lawrence by King Charles I in 1644, spurring European settlement. It became part of Queens County in 1683. Most early records were lost in an 1780s fire linked to arson. During the Revolutionary War, Bayside supported the British and faced two failed Patriot raids. The arrival of the North Shore Railroad in 1866 brought rapid growth, attracting wealthy New Yorkers and actors. After the film industry moved to California in the 1920s, Bayside's economy relied on the Little Neck shellfish beds.

There is a right way to talk to…read morepeople, and then there is a hostile, nasty way--which is the default style here. ​The rules make no sense, either. The signs say "shower before getting into the pool," yet I was yelled at to shower just for walking to a lounge chair with my towel. If you have to shower the moment you step onto the deck, change the signs to reflect that. ​Dealing with the public is hard, but the staff here are completely miserable and looking for a fight. Save yourself the headache and go elsewhere.

There is a lot of wildlife in the park to look at from turtles to swans and slugs. There are signs up to not feed the wildlife but of course people do. Squirrels and pigeons are all looking for food to eat hoping they can get a bit also. It's a pretty big park so come on in and explore it.

On a recent Sunday the entire park was a hub of activity and there was people in every corner, yet the park was big enough for all of us. I saw kids playing in the playground, a few tossing fishing rods into the pond, some playing basketball, a family playing badminton, a group chatting on a long bench, someone talking nonstop on the phone, children riding bikes, and there was us watching all this activity and soaking it all up. Free street parking is all around the park and in the nearby streets, alright there was definitely more cars on the weekend.

As a life long NYer, with my majority of time in Queens, I found it a bit shocking I never been to…read morethe this park until recently. Honestly, unless they live here, I don't know of any people going to College Point unless it is to the big box stores on 20th Ave. I get it, you either need to bus it or drive here since there is no train/subway access. The streets are narrow and the buses are wide making it even more intimidating to venture north in Queens, which is a shame because this area is lovely with its waterfront park. The view has "the city" off into the distance, Rikers island and LaGuardia airport with its low flying planes a bit closer and you may be able to steal a glimpse of the Whitestone bridge, but nearby Powell Cove's park may be better spot for that. The park was under construction in some parts so sections were closed off, but there are nice grassy areas. Benches line the waterfront and walkways that trace it making for a nice spot to chat with a friend providing they aren't suffering from springtime allergies that is - lots of pent up pollen in them trees! A couple of pro-tips: parking is street nearby and probably not the best smelling waterfront at low tide.

I had a BBQ here once I had to get here early and they is information on when you need to reserve a spot. I see that they installed EV charging units with solar panels. This is an upgrade because Electric Vehicles weren't able to get a charge before. Believe it or not, this place provides opportunities for kite flyers, if I'm not mistaken, I may have flew one here once. The bathroom were decent but people over packed the trash cans around the track which is very unattractive but hey, it takes Every Kinda People, to make this world go around, Robert Palmer said that, I didn't. Other than that powells cove is a lovely park and would visit again . I don't recommend this park if you are searching for Mrs Powell as well, you will be disappointed as were me and Alexia :))
