    Monument - at night

Nice park to walk through and catch a glimpse at some historical monuments. The park is well. Maintained and seems to really encourage people to come. There is a merry-go-round for kids, open field for picnics and soccer, "The Burg" burger restaurant and a fair amount of benches/chairs to sit. In the evening hours security patrols the park and is available if you need help. Surrounding the park are other restaurants and stores like the new Whole foods and nearby public transit. My only problem is I've been hassled by security a few times for no reason, maybe they're a little jumpy but I've been told not to get too close to the parks main monument one time when I was more than 6 feet from it. Maybe they should put their focus on real offenders, like the homeless dude I saw relieve Himself on it. Anyway a nice park I like to stroll through and clear my head after a class.

I've been to Military Park before the renovation and I thought it was a fine park back then. Now, post-renovation, it really shines. I like what the city has done to it, given it a facelift and promoted - through design - more people to sit down and enjoy a little nature oasis in the middle of Downtown Newark. More greenery in the city is something that I support. Plus, the landscape redesign is really nice. The historic statues are still there, preserved, and the Wars of America statue stands out even more majestically than before (btw, it seems apropos to review the Military Park as today is Veterans Day). The park also has Burg, which opened recently and is creating a buzz (the WSJ wrote an article about it yesterday - http://www.wsj.com/articles/the-feed-making-a-culinary-case-for-newark-1447197265). If you are in the area, I would recommend making a quick visit to the park and checking it out.

A quite attractive, clean, immaculately maintained and landscaped park in downtown Newark right across the street from the NJ Performing Arts Center. A pretty pleasant place really, despite the fact that one only has to walk a block or so away to be reminded that, well, Newark has a LOT of room for "economic improvement" .. but this is a good start. lots of tables to sit at, flowers everywhere, attractive statuary, big grassy areas, a quite nice although rather small park.

Skyline view on a cloudy day.

April is the time to go as they are in their peak bloom season. You will be rewarded with beautiful and scenic walking trails and picnic lunches under cherry blossoms. The park runs its annual Cherry Blossom Festival as well as multiple events such as the Cherry Blossom Bike Race Challenge, and the Cherry Blossom 10K run that happened last Sunday, April 12th. The weather was excellent, and there was plenty of community pride as everyone showed up. You can also be a spectator, should you choose to, if you don't want to partake in the run. Family Day will be taking place on April 18th. For those who wish to take in the scenery only, the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center renovation has been completed since last Fall of 2023. Inside, there are comfortable bathrooms, an artificial but exceptional-looking year-round cherry blossom tree in full bloom, and a souvenir center where you can purchase sweatshirts, t-shirts, etc. Proceeds benefit Branch Brook Park Alliance in care of the park, according to the Branch Brook Park's website. The entire Welcome Center has a modern and open feel throughout the building as it has plenty of natural lighting and high vaulted ceilings. As you enter, to your immediate right, you will find the gallery space with historical displays and a mural depicting the vast collection of cherry blossoms and their history. If you are ever in the area, this is absolutely worth a visit and yes, it is completely free.

Really friendly staff gave the kids a scavenger hunt page that turned our visit into part garden tour, part treasure hunt. Between the terraces, tile work, grottoes, and gardens, the whole place blends European formality with a whimsical, art nouveau vibe. Plenty of benches invite you to sit and talk, while fenced-in chickens, geese, and beehives bring the grounds to life. The gardens feel peaceful, playful, and magical all at once. The beauty here is truly un-beleaf-able! NOTES/TIPS: **Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors/students, and $5 for kids, with free parking close by. **Very limited wheelchair-accessibility: okay for the Main Terrace and some flat areas, but most paths are sloped or uneven, so access is limited. **Restrooms near the entrance.

It is definitely somewhere to go for a romantic date . The only issue I found with the place is that we couldn't find the gift shop or the little concession stand - coffee and snack . That was disappointing. Also staff is friendly but doesn't seem to be very good at giving directions . Aside from that it is such a beautiful place to visit
