Covid Hysteria. We wanted to eat here, and are fully vaccinated, but we were greeted by a sign requiring masks upon entry and proof of vaccination to be seated. This would have included our 9 year old daughter, who can't possibly get vaccinated. I'm sure the food is good, but this is America, and I don't expect to see this type of discrimination in Homer, AK of all places. Not worth the fuss. Racism? Perhaps...in a sea of white people, we were the only brown table. Our order was the only one "misplaced", no food brought out to us for an hour and a half. Meanwhile, everyone else got their orders. When we brought it up, we were told "oh our mistake" and we sat here watching more people get their food while we waited and waited. We are here for one night, celebrating our daughter's birthday, and yes we should have just walked out. Absolutely unacceptable service, and nothing but a "I'm sorry" which really wasn't even sincere as he's rolling his eyes at us. 1 star only because I can't give 0. Oh and the icing on the cake was the owner coming out and saying he would call the cops and proceeded to take pics of us including minor children without permission. Horrible people all around. All in all, not worth the price. It's fresh caught fish which is amazing, but that's all you're paying for. I got the fish and chips and there was ZERO seasoning on the fish. Halibut isn't the most flavorful fish and I believe it needs some sort of seasoning not just panko breading, that just doesn't cut it. My partner got the bison burger. It was plain. The cheese was some sort of nacho cheese. It was too thick for the burger and just didn't fit right, not a good combination. The price we paid I expected much better tasting food. The portions were large but I think the meals should be priced closer to the $15-$18 range, instead of the $20-$30 range they are currently priced at. read more

We were happily surprised to find this gem! All the other restaurants were packed with 1 hour waits by the water, cross the street and there was this wonderful place with really great seafood options that didn't break our bank! 4 adults and 2 cranky small children ate for under $80 which is seriously cheap for anything on Homer Spit! Dave was our server and he gave us daily specials that rotate daily, great tips on lunch seafood options and the food was wonderful! I ordered the fish tacos, it was a mix of halibut and cod and came with a salad and I got their house made vinaigrette. It was really good! My 1 year old daughter helped me eat the fish tacos! She loved them! They had some great local beers on tap as well! This place is large group friendly as well as kid friendly without the tourist trap notions which was a nice change! This restaurant is a little hidden jewel on the Homer spit. It is immaculate inside with a very unique ambience as you look outside the windows and see the ocean right there. They also require proof of vaccination before you can eat there. I love it. You can feel safe inside knowing that everybody has at least been vaccinated. The waiters and waitresses also wear masks. The food here is outstanding. I recently had their Korean bbq pork and it was amazing. Perfectly cooked and seasoned and beautifully presented. It is served with a side of beans, which I was not super excited about.... until I actually tasted them. I don't know what they did to those beans but they were so incredibly flavorful and delicious. My niece ordered the mussels and I couldn't believe the amount they brought out, and she ate every least one. My wife had the seafood fettuccine and couldn't finish it, nor would she give up a single shrimp to her curious husband because they were too damn good to share. In short, everything our party of five had was delicious, and well presented, and the service was excellent. However, there is a price to pay, in dollars. At least half the items on the dinner menu are thirty five dollars or more. I know fresh seafood isn't cheap, even in Alaska, but I felt like we were paying tourist prices. Be sure to make reservations if coming for dinner in summer, this place gets packed. read more

The answer is yes, when you snag the table that faces the ocean and order a bottle of wine from their great wine list. We were very happy with 2 orders of fish and chips. The fish was fried perfectly and the tarter sauce was very good. The fries were good, since I don't like a lot of salt. The Caesar Salad was above average, with good garlic and anchovy. The seafood dip was very good, but we thought a better vehicle like pita chips might elevate the dish. Amazing restaurant for more than one reason! First off, they require all dine in patrons to be fully vaccinated (Covid) and show proof of vaccination. What an great concept! What a great find on the Homer Spit. While Covid is devastating the limited number of restaurants in the Homer area, this one is talking things seriously and it is paying off. Prior to entering, you must show proof of having been vaccinated in order to dine here. This was a first, and somewhat appreciated requirement. The food was delicious. Everything was great. This was incredibly responsible and we appreciated the establishment that much more. Our waitress was top notch, professional and knew the menu inside and out. I stopped by here on Friday night with my wife and her parents for dinner. We had all just just gotten done with a day of water activities (kayaking for the ladies and fishing for the men) and we're looking for a place to eat on Homer spit whenever we noticed this place. When walking into Fresh Catch Cafe the first thing that you see is the bar and a small door to the dining room. Once you make it into the dining room you have a nice view out onto the water and the walls are decorated with some nice paintings that are for sale by local artists. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with the red curry bowl. It consisted of halibut, salmon, vegetables and rice all in a red curry sauce. Whenever I ordered it our server asked me how spicy I would like it and I told her as hot as they could make it. It came out as a single bowl and the curry sauce was piping hot which made the eating of it slow. However that just prolonged my enjoyment of the meal because the red curry sauce was pretty fantastic. They had developed a ton of flavor to it and the spice of it was good enough that I was happy (that rarely happens) and yet the burn of the curry didn't last for a long time. Both of the fishes in the curry were cooked nicely too and I loved eating the vegetables in the sauce. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I thought that the curry bowl was something a little bit different than what I had seen but that Fresh Catch Cafe executed extremely well. read more

Stopped in for some lunch while in Homer. Now, Homer is not exactly known for their superb food. I didn't set my expectations too high when going in. In fact, I saw reviews saying "this is good, for Homer". That seemed relatively telling. I ordered the halibut fish tacos. Bland. The tortilla looked like a mission tortilla that you can buy at the grocery store. Really plain, nothing special about these tacos at all. Worse part? They were $16. Way overpriced for the quality your getting. The tacos had some cabbage on them and the halibut tasted barely seasoned. It didn't have any sauce to accompany it so it was also pretty dry. I was severely disappointed. My boyfriend had the lamb burger. I will say the lamb meat was very juicy and tender but it tasted a bit odd topped with a Chimichurri sauce. Just didn't compliment the other flavors at all. It seemed like it should have a yogurt sauce or mint instead. Overall, wouldn't recommend this place. Hands down, the Chef preparations were top notch. Even if food is great, quality friendly service also matters. The hostess doesn't know about smiling nor patience with others and the male bartender seemed overworked. FYI, the pics on Yelp of bar area is not the current bar layout. It appears to have been updated so they can fit two 4 topper tables in front of bar. We showed up without reservations at around 6:30p and were told we can get a table at 8 or sit at the bar. We sat dead center at the bar where a flower arrangement stemming from a large vintage looking ceramic decanter took half the bar surface depth. We ordered drinks. As we sat there, it was quite uncomfortable for these reasons; The flowers were in our face and the bartender became bothered when we asked if he could relocate the flowers; The hostess continued to tell parties of two walk-ins about the 8p slot, yet she sat parties of 4 or more for people w/o reservations were seated at tables within 15 min. The table in the bar area right behind us 2.5 feet away remained empty during our time sitting on the tiny barstools beneath a 'bar top' at no more than 16" deep, maybe, at best, 7' long. The size of the tiny barstools are of course to maximize 6 seats at the bar. The bar seating arrangement may have been comfortable for stick figures who do not mind limited use of their arms during a dining or drinking experience. For reference, I am 5'2" at 130 lbs. My husband is 6' at 210 lbs. We asked for a table again despite the 8p time slot and alas we were finally seated at the empty table behind us that could seat 4 comfortably even though we were only two ppl. The male bartender eventually takes our order, orders are received without utensils or napkins and we waited until our King crab appetizer was done since it came with a seafood fork. We ask for utensils again. Needless to say, the bartender was embarrassed when he brought us our delicious seafood curry bowls and his eyes reminded him of our need for utensils. The KING CRAB LEG Appetizer was outstanding at $150 per pound. We discovered two days later when we picked up fish my husband caught from Homer Fish Processing and shipping, they too sell King Crab Legs, cooked at $52 per pound . We bought some and these were as delicious with the same exact taste offered by this Restuarant. I was too curious on the price Fresh Catch charges on King crab legs so I called two other restaurants and they charged $72. per pound. HOMER IS GREAT. Don't limit yourselves to this Restuarant. We ate at other great places in Homer during our 5 night stay who offered great food with smiling service. Sorry Chef/ Owner, your bar area poses a fire hazard and the female hostess who worked on 8/16/2022 is either overworked or simply disgruntled with life. Namaste. read more

Hands down one of the BEST seafood restaurant's I've ever eaten at! No comparison! This is by far the best seafood I've ever eaten. I choose to take a flight down the evening from Soldotna and ate dinner here with some friends. Not only was the food tasty, homemade, seasoned well, on time, hot, fabulous; The decor and cafe was small and quaint, upon arrival it was almost difficult to get a seat in, but was the last ones to sit down as the tables were taken! This place is happening. I am sensitive to spicy food and our dear waitress Courtney was so attentive and nice to reaasure me if it was spicy or not. It was outside of my comfort zone but my friends ended up finishing it. The Fish and Chips. hmmm was is delicious, I've never tasted halibut so delicious before! My husband and I are visiting Alaska on our honeymoon and have really enjoyed the wonderful people and delicious tastes of this state -- until coming here. We checked in at the hostess booth and were told it would be a 45 minute wait for a table -- we put our names down and were seated (and hungry!) after the wait. After being handed the menu, our server came up to us several minutes later to inform us that this was the restaurant's final night of the season and they were therefore out of almost every dish, including every seafood option. I'm a pescatarian and my husband has a dairy allergy and does not eat red meat, so we were understandably disappointed to learn that 75% of the menu was unavailable after waiting 45 minutes to eat there. I expressed that the hostess should have been transparent about this with us before taking our information. The server offered to provide a kale salad dish that they could "potentially" add shrimp to. Hungry after a long day of travel and with everything else closing nearby, we asked if any additional sides like rice and beans could be added to this plate, and what the price would be. The server said she would check and be back with us. When she returned, she informed us that only a kale salad with shrimp could be prepared, no other sides were available, and no mention of what they would charge us for this meal (of kitchen scraps!). We made the decision to leave, at which point the server snapped that she had already put our orders in! We left speechless and ended up going to the grocery store to bring cold food back to our accommodations. As new visitors to this town, this was an incredibly rude and disappointing first experience. We live in New York City, have worked many years in restaurants, and have never experienced service like this. Take your money to an establishment where you don't feel like the staff is dishonest and trying to wring out every last dollar from its customers. read more

A trendy menu! I was surprised and delighted to find the menu options more or less trendy. So much so, that our meat and potatoes friend didn't find a plain steak meal, burger, traditional green salad or any basic American fare to suit her pallette. But I have to mention that this was dinner, not lunch, and the menu online has some options she could have selected. (I see hamburgers offered at lunch) Maybe she wasn't in the mood for the few things she might eat. I, on the other hand, welcomed the creative menu with some long forgotten flavors, ingredients and veggies. For example, my seafood duo of salmon and halibut came with quinoa and bok choi. The seafood was simply grilled but excellent. My friend ordered the Kachemak Bay Red Curry with halibut and veggies, served in a large bowl. Hidden under the soup-like curry was rice. It was flavorful, not too spicy and generous, large enough for 2 meals for a modest eater. Another person in our party had the fish and chips. She knew it was panko dipped and not the traditional style of beer battered fish but I think she was slightly disappointed with this style of preparation. However, she still raved about the halibut. I was surprised at the generous amount of fish they put on her plate. Along with the fries, she couldn't finish it all and had it for breakfast the next day. Loved Homer, Alaska on the spit! Cute and cozy town that offers great food and abounds of fresh seafood. My husband and I decided to give the Fresh Catch Cafe' a try located on the spit. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were welcomed in, seated and offered drinks. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Shortly after receiving our drinks, we ordered dinner. As an appetizer, we ordered the Alaskan King Crab legs with hot butter (a bit pricey at $120 lbs. mostly due to the limited habitat and harvesting season). The leg meat was rich, sweet flavored and delicately tender. Definitely worth the splurge! I ordered the Alaska crab risotto and halibut. Probably the best risotto I've ever tasted. The risotto was creamy with nearly a porridge-like consistency. The seared halibut was sweet and tender, perfectly prepared. My husband ordered the halibut, prawn, scallop and salmon fettuccine with harissa-cream sauce, topped with asiago cheese. Very rich in flavor with a kick of spice. Both entrees were rich in flavor and delicious!! We decided to try the Bear Creek strawberry rhubarb wine. Paired quite nicely with our dinner. Interestingly enough, the wine is made from equal parts strawberry and rhubarb. It is produced in Homer, Alaska. Who knew?! Lastly, we decided to end our meal on a sweet note and ordered the carrot cake with lemon cream cheese frosting. Yum!!!! read more

I did extensive research before making a dinner reservation for our special night out in Homer. The experience did not disappoint! The host kindly held my reservation even though we were 20 mins late (I called to request this). Informal and lively dining area with views. Quality of food exceptional. Service very knowledgeable and friendly without being pretentious. She knew her wines and was perfectly attentive without being overbearing. We started with the crab cakes which blew us away. Wow, this place service is horrible! We were sat for over 10 minutes without even getting acknowledged and watched two other tables get sat. Waitresses walking by multiple times without saying anything. This cafe is easy to miss as it's a little further into the spit and away from the crowded restaurants that have crazy long wait times. Upon entering we were immediately seated. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful.We weren't very hungry so we decided to share the king crab fondue. It was very delicious and creamy. It kind of reminded me of a chowder. It was served with a french bread, I believe. We enjoyed his with drinks, as well as the beautiful view of the water. Was shocked to see the owner browbeat a senior citizen customer calling him an a-hole and I do not like to repeat this but that the man could suck his you know what. This is no way to treat any human being especially a customer who had asked to speak to the owner (who resembled John Candy) about his portion size. The man had every right to do so. Speaking of portion size, my $35 Curry dish had two very small pieces of fish and mostly vegetables. Perhaps the fish swam thru it.
