I was turned down from Dachshund Rescue of Houston because they said 3+ acres was too much land and…read morethe doxies could get into "unwanted" areas. This is beside the fact that I've had at least five dachshunds live their lives out here happily. These are obviously city people who are afraid of the country. This, to me, is not taking into account the potential for dogs desperately needing homes to live a great life in a loving home!

Basset Buddies Rescue is full of volunteers who truly care about what is best for the dogs they…read morehave in their care. I applied to adopt one of their rescues in November of last year. There is an application form followed by a phone interview and finally a home visit to make sure that where the dog is going is a safe environment. They made sure I understood the specific personalities of Basset Hounds and took time to answer the questions I had. These wonderful people take in dogs that shelters would typically deem unadoptable. The boy I adopted was a senior, estimated about 10 years old, had been abused and was very thin due to neglect. He was rescued with his sister who had been a caged breeder dog her entire life and didn't even know how to walk on a leash. Basset Buddies drove close to Austin to rescue the pair and put them in foster homes and by the time I got my boy, he was on the mend, gaining weight and starting to trust people again. I decided to foster his sister and when she came to me after a few months at another foster home she had already learned manners to live inside a home and walk on a leash. These two babies continue to amaze me every day. After being treated so terribly their entire lives they are so willing to give and receive love. Had Basset Buddies not saved them I have no doubt they would have been victims of a kill shelter because of their ailments. Basset Buddies gave them a second chance at life. I follow their website and it always touches my heart to see the helpless dogs they take in and see them transform into happy, loved pets.

I was denied adopting a senior dog & all others because my apartment has stairs…read more I can understand being denied a senior due to stairs. But when I asked again about adopting a younger Basset Hound, I was flatly told that any application I submitted would be rejected simply because of those stairs. As someone who has owned and loved Basset Hounds for most of my life, I fully understand the challenges stairs could pose for a senior dog. But to automatically decline a dog a warm, loving home due solely to the presence of stairs is not only absurd--it's completely out of touch with what matters most: the welfare of the dog. This policy feels as senseless as it is backward. Instead of placing dogs in homes with experienced, caring owners, this rescue seems to be creating needless roadblocks. It makes me question if their priority is really the well-being of the animals.

We found a sweet pup that was what we had been looking for and were grateful they approved us to come meet her. We were glad we could bring our other dog to be sure they meshed and they did! I am grateful that our new fur baby came chipped and spayed and up to date on shots and heart worm prevention. I can tell Red Collar truly cares about the animals they rescue and are making a difference caring for hurt or sick animals that others would just toss away. We are grateful to have found them!

Considering the city's crisis around animal safety and wellbeing, one would think this rescue would have prioritized follow up to ensure a safe and loving home for this pet, however they don't seem to have the ability to manage the application and review process on a basic level so I would not trust them to handle this important process from beginning to end based on this initial interaction.

I had adopted a young black lab puppy at Sugar Land Tx animal shelter who was barely weaned but…read moremean as a little rattle snake when I got him home and introduced him to my other dog who is as docile. The little fart was even mean to me and wouldn't even let my other dog move in the house or in back porch. I returned the mean little rascal to shelter and they noted should not be adopted with other dogs. I checked back and found out Scout's Honor had rescued the ornery cuss and he became one of their pups who represented them at events in full regalia of a beautiful vest of his own. He was some sort of a little mascot and lived being the center of the universe at events. So glad they lovingly found a great role and obvious personalized care for that little stinker. If they can find the right training and life for that little demon, they can be trusted with any breed to try to save him. I now greatly admire this organization!!!

Sidney is the BEST dog trainer hands down!! We have tried other trainers for Ellie and comparing…read moreour experiences, Sidney has changed our lives for the better. He is a retired k9 police officer from Chicago and does REAL WORLD training. No tricks or treats. We first knew of Sidney when we saw him hold classes right outside of the dog park and we thought it would be the perfect training for Ellie. She would get easily distracted even by a leaf or a butterfly and take off. Also, she needed some obedience training. Fast forward, we have been training with Sidney for almost a year and we keep coming back. He knows how to read your dog to bring out the best in each of them. We went in wanting to learn obedience, and we keep wanting to learn more to see what else she is capable of doing. We truly enjoy the time we spend with Ellie in training classes each week and incorporating these skills in our routines at home. Ellie is a very well trained dog and we can actually walk her off leash with confidence that she will not wander off. We have also competed and placed in AKC rally competitions in her first weekend. If you're willing to put in the work with your dog and want to meet other hard working dog owners, come check out Total Control K9 College. We practice at Bill Archer Dog Park every Saturday morning around 9-11 AM and Wednesdays at Preppy Pet parking lot on Highway 6 and Rippling Waters at 7PM - rain or shine. Also, check out his Facebook live videos on the Total Control K9 College page to watch him work his magic on dogs who come in with behavioral issues or with high energy and within minutes he calms them down. I have witnessed this with my own eyes every week... I just can't make this stuff up!

Wish we had found Sydney sooner to save ourselves the hassle and time with trainers who don't know how to handle a purebred working breed. Our boy's main issue was reactivity with other dogs while walking him on a leash in the neighborhood. Sydney trained and educated us by giving us the tools to manage our stubborn, and strong, puppy. We've been going to Sydney for over a year to keep up the obedience and our boy is doing things we never thought would be possible before, such as sitting quietly in a room full of other dogs, and walking past reactive dogs in the neighborhood without incident. Thank you Sydney.

David also trained *me*, too, so that I can replicate the results, and reinforce his training on my own. David clearly has a special gift with dogs.
