I stopped here after going down the road and seeing it. I was wondering what a restaurant called the French Quarter was and what they had. On entering it is a take out place. You can see the food at the counter behind a glass. They had grilled chicken, fried chicken, spicy chicken, greens, corn, black eyed peas, Mac n cheese, green beans, sweet potatoes, gumbo and more. They Also have peach cobbler. I'm pretty picky and the food is tasty and good. It is seasoned well. The greens and Mac and cheese had a great taste. The peach cobbler could have had a little more moisture but overall it tasted good. The baked cajun chicken was also prepared well. Overall, great meal. I an on going back. read more

Lovely husband and wife team cooking up all the "soul" food staples (Mac and cheese, collard greens, beans, fried chicken, corn bread etc) just no flavour. Everything looks delicious but then again looks are deceiving. Chicken was beyond dry, pinto beans has a strange taste like too much bay leaves and Mac and cheese was off. I wanted to love this place as I have a penchant for Cajun food. Unfortunately, it missed the mark. 3 stars for the service alone. I threw out majority of the food. read more

Peach Cobbler is to die for! Customer service rivals Chick Fil A. The gumbo is some of the best you can find.

Friends of ours have been raving about this place for awhile. They are a bit more expensive than some of our go-to places but I don't mind paying if it's truly better product. This is also a bit out of our way drive wise so we did not immediately try it. Finally on a boring Saturday we pulled the trigger. The chicken did not look all that impressive when we got it home. I started eating it and thought hmmm. We got the spicy of course but it was a slow burn. The more I ate it the more I enjoyed it. Not terribly coated, if extra crispy is your vibe this is not for you. The coating was crisp but thin and the chicken, even the white meat, was juicy and flavorful. That slow burn spice was just happiness. We got wedges to go with. Yikes. Holy undercooked meh. Skip them. The biscuits were slightly better but entirely forgettable. No worries though, we just ate more chicken. We will return but we will be sticking to just chicken for sure. read more

They totally ripped me off. I ordered 8 piece family meal 2 pieces of each spicy. Instead they gave me some crap 5 drum sticks and 2 thighs. Couldn't tell if they were spicy or not. I didn't know this until I got home or would have had it corrected. I hate dark meat I was starving after a long day at work couldn't wait to get home and eat some fried chicken. I've eaten here numerous times without a problem but all it takes is once. I called them and let them know they weren't to concerned so I hung up and wasted $30 on chicken. Not good at all anymore! It used to be a very good place if you like southern style food. The macaroni was horrible, the beans and rice were even worse. The chicken did not taste done and like it had been sitting out all day. Even the biscuits were extremely dry! You always know you've picked a good spot when there's a long line at lunch time. French Quarter is family owned by friendly people. Don't let the hand-written signs about "CHECK YOUR FOOD BEFORE YOU LEAVE, WE DON'T DO RETURNS" or "NO CREDIT ACCEPTED" freak you out too much. They're not confrontational in person. The fried chicken is really good. The roasted chicken is pretty tender & flavorful, as well. I'm not a fan of the baked beans at all and the mac n cheese is pretty one note, but they're not bad by any means. I always see people in there clamoring over the jambalaya. My only complaint is that they don't really appear to give a rats ass about customer service. The last time I went in it was 45 minutes before closing time & they had no fried chicken, no sides whatsoever, no biscuits & about 7 or 8 pieces of roasted chicken. We picked up 5 or 6 pieces of the roasted chicken for a total of $6 & change, then I was charged 50 cents for using my debit card (their policy for charges under $10, which isn't technically legal) even though it was their fault that they didn't even have $10 worth of food in the restaurant. The girl at the counter was really nice about it & I didn't complain much since she's just doing her job, but once the insult wears off & I start going back again I certainly won't come in after dark ever again & I'll be paying with cash only. read more

I didn't want to give it any stars... This place is trash! The battered shrimp were frozen then fried! I could have bought those from Kroger. The biscuit, I swear they got those from KFC! The greens were salty and just wrong. It had strips of something weird in them. The sweet potatoes - just yuck! The gumbo was edible, but I wouldn't call it gumbo! More like spicy tomato chicken and rice. And the chicken.... OMG! At first it looked like KFC, but tasted more like nasty bland Church's chicken! i don't even want to taste the carrot cake we got! For me when it comes to chicken and Ypsilanti, its between three places: Family's, Korey, and french quarter. So tonight i had It and here are my conclusions: Chicken is great, they are always running low on the spicy, which means it sells great, i think them and family's are running neck and neck for best chicken in the area, there chicken is crispy and oh so tasty. Sides: they do offer a lot of quality sides here ( i would say that they have the best overall sides in the area, even over a place like cuppy), but two are my favorite here. Okra, which is my favorite food, is pretty good here (i would still say number one is family's), but the go to is the macaroni and cheese. This macaroni and cheese is slap your momma good, seriously. Everything about it is excellent. I would say its between French Quarter and Rub's for best Macaroni and cheese ever. Their biscuits is ok (typical KFC biscuit and would say Korey's is better), nothing special. They also have huge desserts here (had the chocolate cake which is pretty good, my fiancee had the German chocolate cake and loved it). For overall food, French quarter does have the best chicken place in the area. read more

They were out of falafel, but instead of letting me alter my order, they just refunded me for that sandwich and I didn't find out until it was too late to order a different sandwich. The three stars is for the chicken . I always ask for the spicy, but sometimes they are out so I have had the regular as well. Their chicken has been consistent over the four or so times I've purchased. The macaroni and cheese is better than most. This last visit I made the mistake of ordering a corned beef sandwich that alledgely had melted blue cheese on it. The cost was $5.99. The cheese turned out to be salad dressing. Is this bait and switch? The corned beef was marginal at best. Needless to say I will not order another out of the sandwich selection. But then what was I thinking ordering a corned beef sandwich from any place other than the Bread Basket. Then there is the annoying and offending issue of the workers purposely speaking in another language in front of customers. The workers need to be put on notice that this is not customer friendly as well as down right rude. In addition, just because the customer appears to not be of the same nationality does not mean the language is not understood. read more

I always order later at night at close and they always throw an extra piece or 2 my way because they are about to close. I ordered the food on Grub Hub everything I ask them not to do they did. The fish was not cleaned and taste horrible. I ordered crab cake that I did not get, but by the way the other food taste I'm glad I didn't get it. I ask for my sandwich to have nothing on it and it had everything. This was the first and last time I will order from here. When I called the restaurant the guy says "oh so you want the crab cake replaced" "you can come and get it". If I ordered my food through a delivery service how do you expect me to leave work to come and pick up food, that is the reason why I had it delivered. If I were to rank the chicken joints in Ypsi it would be Family's, KFC and then French(RIP Korey's). Of the 3 or 4 times I've been here I have never been satisfied with their chicken or gizzards. The chickens were quiet flavorless like I was biting into a soggy tofu and the gizzards were either very hard or colorless. I've also ventured to their sandwiches and tried the chicken breast sandwich but that too was pretty bland. They do however offer a great range of sides some of them being quiet delicious. read more

Their chicken is the best. The breasts are huge (hence why there is an up charge for them). They have spicy and regular if you dont like the heat. The sides are good. The gumbo is really good. The mac and cheese is what you'd expect. The only side I didn't really like was the bbq beans, but I was expecting something more along the lines of baked beans, so it isn't fair to say they were bad. I have never tried the sandwiches, but the chicken is all you would ever want. They do have their issues, but what place in Ypsi doesn't? The staff is nice if you are nice to them. All the complaints about customer service are not the norm. The complaints that the other reviews give are not fair. Rarely will a store ever have a lot of food at closing, because whatever they don't sell, they have to throw out. Just about every restaurant will charge for anything under $10 because it costs them money for your convenience. And just because they "speak another language at the counter" doesn't mean they are doing anything other than relaying what your order is to the back because the cook may not speak English, which is not a crime, regardless of how many people want to condemn it as such. read more

This place has great food. A plethora of tasty sides and exquisite deserts accompany their awesome spicy chicken and jumbolia. The guy there was friendly and I will be back often. If you go there, definitely try the german chocolate cake. read more
