To be honest, I strongly dislike the insurance carriers as a whole, so in today's world I feel it is essential to work with a Broker who is on your side, who helps you navigate through the murkiness of it all, and who you know will be available in the worst of times. I first hand have experienced that with Vinsa. For most people, insurance can be an after thought, but it's one of those things that you hope you never need. If and when you need it though, you can go at it alone, or you can have the Avengers on your side which is what it feels like working with these guys. UPDATE: I think people who read and leave reviews should understand that Vinsa is a broker, they help you understand insurance, how it works, what you pay for, and they go to the market to get you the best value for what you need. They are not insurance carriers and don't dictate the price. YOUR personal situation affects that. If you have a bad driving record for example some insurance carriers won't carry you and your premium will be through the roof if they even give you a shot, Vinsa has no control of that.

I found Steve McKinnie's name on the AIPSO website as someone who works with the low-cost insurance plan that CA offers. His was the first of two names in Palmdale, so I called him first. I was immediately unimpressed with his phone demeanor. All I got were brusque, one-word answers, until the end when I asked if I could make an appointment and what paperwork I needed to bring. I nearly called the other place, but figured that I'd already made the appointment and didn't need Prince Charming for the purposes of writing up a quick policy. The next morning I went to my appointment and from outside the door heard what sounded to be a jovial man on the phone on the other side of the door. As soon as I came in, Steve got to business but was also cracking jokes here and there, and I decided that the conversation from the day before must have been a bad connection. Either that, or I was sitting and laughing with a completely different person! Anyway, down to the gist. Steve explained the non-owners policy to me and recommended what he thought would be the best kind of policy to suit my needs and current situation. He ended up talking me out of the low-cost policy because it would have created more headaches for me in the long run. He drew up the paperwork, had me sign everything, and even printed me a copy of the insurance verification sheet (which I needed to send out to another company). Finally, Steve helped me out with something that was not in his professional interest to do. Without going into detail, I will just say he extended me a courtesy that he did not have to, and for which I am grateful. If you're looking for an agent who is informative and to the point, but also presents a laid back atmosphere and is relatable, I recommend Steve McKinnie at Forward Insurance.

I immediately attempted to contact Shaffer Insurance (twice) for assistance in finding another provider as time was of the essence. Now, based on our history of only one claim and NEVER missing a premium payment in all related years, I would expect, at the very least, acknowledgement of my request for assistance re: this very important requirement for my home. No response equates to a non-caring and unprofessional method to conduct business. In the interim, we have been fortunate to find another agency who immediately resolved our concerns by finding another provider within hours. The big one is trying to schedule a meeting with John. His calendar link on the client portal is broken. Then he's not responsive to texts/calls/emails. And he has read receipts on his texts so you can see he's looking at them but not answering.
