After 2 years of problems with cooling during the summer and other AC companies coming out and…read moredoing incomplete work I finally came across AIR worth heating and cooling. Service complete 5/4/26 all in one day. Unfortunately my unit was 16 years old and had a major leak of coolant in the outdoor unit. After talking about all options, and asking a bajillion questions we decided to buy a new unit (SIGH). I want to complement everyone in their team for their professionalism. Never once was there a "this is the only real option for you". It was sensible and top tier with the options they provided. I cannot make a higher recommendation to use their service.

Giving this company 3 stars because eventually the unit cooled. My issue holding back a higher…read morerating is that I called him out because I own a couple homes, 3 AC units, for the last 25 years. I am not new to AC issues. I knew that the issue was and told him. I called him out to replace a capacitor, nothing else. Install that, the unit will kick on. Cheap and easy fix. A gentec cap at Home Depot is about $14. Yep, $14. Discharge the old one with a screw driver, take it off, replace it. Charge me for a service call, maybe jack up the part price a bit, then boom, cool air and that's that. Well I once stopped using this company because it started to seem as if the techs are on salary, plus commission for upselling other services or parts. If this is the case, it makes the possibility for defrauding over over charging customers an obvious issue. Doesn't mean they will all be dishonest, but it would make dishonesty incentivized, and reward those techs that bring in the biggest numbers, and parts sold at an ungodly mark up. When we didn't have Youtube and the internet to cross reference and diagnose issues, and if I did not have a Nephew that is an HVAC tech but that lives too far, I would not be so upset that I felt had. He was a very pleasant person, but maybe this was a part of the manner in which the hammer was applied. So, an issue I have had several times over the course of 223 years of home ownership, that has never run a hair over $200 including the recharge, capacitor, and service call, ran close to $500, just a year past the last time I had this done by a competitor, same city. Another note, upstairs unit was chilly prior to the service of the downstairs unit. When the tech left, upstairs was warm. Not in relationship to the downstairs because of the fix, but unusually warm considering years both ran fine. He mentioned cleaning both. I did not ask for the upstairs to be serviced. What happened to the upstairs unit? What? Was I supposed to then call him back to now "fix" this one that magically started to warm up? Um, No. So I called the company I switched to in the first place. in the words of former President G.W. Bush... "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again." At least I tried to allow them a chance for redemption. Seems like they are determined to upsell themselves out of my consideration ever again.

First, this company is no longer owned/operated by the Coomes family. Apparently the Coomes sold…read morethe company some time ago. We had them install a new a/c system in 2011 which failed constantly immediately upon installation. They came out over and over and couldn't figure out what was wrong. One night a couple of weeks after install, the electrical panel in the furnace closet for the system caught on fire. Had we not been home, our house would have burned down. They came out the next day and found that their installers (not the guy that came out to quote the system) did not wire the system properly. Once that was finally done properly, the system performed okay but has always put out very high humidity. They came every year to service this Carrier unit for the entirety of its 10 yr warranty. At that time, we switched to our neighbor's HVAC company to perform its annual maintenance for the next 3 years. We also change the Honeywell advanced filters every 3 months, instead of the recommended 6 months, to keep the system clean. Saturday of Memorial Day weekend we heard a thumping noise in the furnace closet and turned OFF the thermostat immediately and called our neighbor's HVAC company to come look at it, but their techs were taking off the entire weekend until Tuesday, so we called Coomes - they had installed it, after all, so thought maybe they could repair it more quickly. A tech came out and spent about 15-20 minutes (most of that at the compressor unit outside, even though we told him and the person who answered the phone, that the problem was with the fan blower assembly in the furnace closet inside the house) and took a few photos of the coils and one pic of the fan motor and declared that both the compressor and fan blower motor needed to be replaced, and that cost would be almost $5,000.00 for the compressor, and almost $4,000.00 for the fan blower assy IF they could even find either one of them, and this would take at least one week IF the parts could be found, so what he recommended was that we just purchase an entire new system for between $22k - $29k. He had spent less than 20 minutes on the premises and was quoting an entire new system and going on about the financing and saving sales tax, etc. and that made us VERY uncomfortable. For this, we were charged an $89.00 service call. We told him we were going to get a 2nd opinion. He also left the thermostat turned ON, which would have put a great deal of stress on the compressor had we not noticed it and turned it back OFF. We waited until our neighbor's HVAC company was back in town and after spending over an hour going over the inside and outside and testing every component in the system, he found nothing wrong with the compressor at all and the only problem found in the entire system was that the fan blower motor had died (which we already knew). The price to replace the fan blower motor, including labor, came out to $895.00 AND the part was IN STOCK LOCALLY. We did call the new owner of Coomes HVAC, (that used to be in Duncanville, but now it says Midlothian), and they agreed to destroy the $89.00 check we wrote for the "service call" after this situation was explained. The person who answered the phone when we called for an emergency repair was told why we were calling - we were looking for an emergency repair. We believe we were being scammed - or it's possible these new owners are not interested in repairing an existing system, only in selling new ones, so they overprice a repair. Whatever the case is, based on our situation - we suggest you research the current owners of any business, and get first-hand referrals or references plus a 2nd and even 3rd opinion on anything quoted.

I was told by the previous owner that he had a few years left on the full warranty and it is transferrable. As luck may have it I had an issue where the furnace was short cycling(briefly turning on and off). I called Mid Cities and spoke to Michaela in their office fully expecting to have at least some kind of deductible or trip charge. Well to my surprise, she said no we'll send someone out today and there's no charge at all. You have the full parts and labor 10 year warranty. As a new homeowner that was music to my ears! Nick was the technician who serviced the furnace. He is very knowledgeable and answered some questions I had. He worked his magic and when done asked me to sign a $0.00 bill at the end. My furnace has been running great ever since. I wanted to spread the word as I moved here a few years ago from WI and I didn't know any HVAC people here. Mid Cities proved to me that they are a business that prides itself on integrity. If you're shopping around all I can say is give them a shot as they showed their true colors to me and honored there side of things 7 years later. That kind of integrity shows to me that they dont overcharge the customer and look at keeping customers long term. Jared J.
