Carolyn the sales lady is one of the rudest people I've ever dealt with! I've been in twice and she was equally as rude each time. Not too mention they are crooks! I was trying to buy a product that I can get online and shipped from multiple sources for $1200. But because they are the only ones that can sell the product from the local distributor (contractor only purchases) they were charging a $1900. $700 up charge to call in an order. And then when questioned about she had the audacity to say, "were just a small mom and pop shop". Please!!!! Needless to say I found a distributor online that will overnight ship from Oxnard super cheap. Hey Fred's.....greed is a mortal sin....beware! Carolyn...go to church....you are a nasty individual. Thanks to the generosity of Fred's carpet I was able to finish my gold award (the equivalent of an eagle scout award in Boy Scouts). Without them it would not of been possible. They went above and beyond any business myself and my parents have dealt with before. My mom says we will for sure be purchasing our home carpeting from them. I used them several years ago and it was a disaster. They scratched my mother's desk with their dolly, they gouged my dining room floor with the fridge, and then I was bending down to pick something up in the kitchen and the dolly fell over and hit me in the head. They sliced the vinyl flooring below a cupboard door and left it. I noticed it after they had left. When I called the company to tell them what had happened, the woman was extremely rude. I bought a new house here in Torrance and my first priority was installing new flooring throughout. Being a Torrance resident all my life I know that Fred's has been around forever, so it was my first stop. First off, I waited about a half hour without even being acknowledged. Once the one gentlemen on the sales floor was free he reluctantly answered my few questions, seemed very rushed, told me that they were currently about 3 weeks backed up, and told me my job would be "very expensive" at $15k. Basically, I fully got the impression that he was trying to talk me out of the job or not taking me seriously. Ok, I happily took my $15k to another company that seemed happy to have me. Having spent many days hunkered down due to current lifestyle restrictions, I found that much of my home could use some sparkle. Fred's Carpets Plus on Torrance Blvd has been my go-to carpeting and flooring favorite during my 20 years of home ownership. Chris was in the store the day I went in for consultation, and he spent as much time as I needed helping me decide what floor covering would be best for my kitchen/dining/living area. Samples were loaded in the car and the choice was soon made. When Chris came to measure and quote, he noticed the ancient quarter round molding throughout the house. Since I was about to have the entire interior painted, he suggested putting in new baseboards. He could supply the material and his crew would install it after the flooring. The crew, Frank and Paco, were professional, extremely hard-working, did a fabulous job on my floors and baseboards, and the clean-up was also impressive. I used Fred's to install LVT and carpet at my office, an area of about 2000 sq ft. After a rough and very disappointing start w/ one of the sales people, I ended up meeting another sales team member, Carolyn. I am very glad I did not give up on Fred's after the first negative impression as she turned out to be GREAT! She has been doing this for several years so she is very proficient and knows what to recommend. She is very professional and was always very helpful. What made this experience stand out was the demo/install team. Juan Carlos and Armando's crew was top notch for install of the LVT. If you are going to be getting a hard surface, I recommend to request these guys to do the job. The demo was very difficult b/c the existing tile was being extremely stubborn and the cement ground was very uneven. Watching them along the process, I could tell they were frustrated and discouraged at times, but they did not take short cuts. I quickly came to learn that the demo and prep is so important when laying this vinyl. While this job ended up being longer than they anticipated, they still took their time to do it well and right. They even brought in extra guys when they realized the job was taking longer than expected in order to stay on schedule. When all was said and done, the floor came out beautiful! My contractor was so impressed as well, that he is now using them for other jobs (i did not use the flooring co my contractor recommended). This company is just fantastic. They are on time, - even when scheduled very early. (This is a really rare and unusual feature with service companies). The work is quick, clean, quiet, efficient and the end result is a beautiful carpet. I cannot say enough about how highly I recommend these guys. we used Fred's to redo our stairs and second floor. the entire process went pretty smoothly, from browsing the store, picking out the carpet we wanted, ordering and install. the two guys who did the install worked their butts off to finish in time. i didn't even see them eat lunch! what's preventing me from giving the full 5 stars is that in some areas, particularly on the stairs, the pattern is crooked. it's apparent that the carpet wasn't put down perfectly. in another spot, where the carpet tucks underneath the top part of the step, they seem to have run out of fabric and you can see a bit of a gaping hole. they just miscalculated bc we had TONS of leftover carpet which we paid for. anyway, we can live w/ it. read more

Last year I called Fred's rug in Torrance to fix our upstairs kids bathroom and laundry room floors. They were so easy to work with, I was happy for their expertise in getting some ideas for floors. The installer worked so hard and quickly finished both projects. He went beyond what I expected. He suggested I add a couple of pieces of moldings to areas we didn't have before to finish the floor off better. I recently had two rooms of carpeting replaced. Fred's Carpets Plus was very easy to deal with. Low pressure salesroom and very casual. Installation was scheduled for two weeks after order, and the installation itself took only a few hours. They moved heavy the heavy furniture for me and installation was quick and very professional. They could have been a little better about cleanup afterwards, like sweeping the garage area etc. but the important things were done right so no complaints. read more

So I had a good customer experience at their other location picking out carpet. I inquired about blinds at their other location, but they referred me to their location on Torrance Blvd. I headed over and was extremely disappointed. I expected way better. Their customer service was not up to par. Their blinds section is pretty small. The one lady that could help me seemed extremely overwhelmed as she was answering another customer's questions. I asked if I could look around at blind options while I waited and was told no. I inquired about how long the wait would be and she seemed really perturbed stating that the customer she was helping had a lot of questions. I said I needed to know if I should wait or return at another time. She told it was best I come back tomorrow, mind you it was 12:45 in the day. I said I had to work tomorrow and she just looked at me with a blank stare. Will not be returning to waste my time here. This experience is making me reconsider spending the $5000-$6000 targeted for carpet at their other location. I can understand having limited personnel to help, but there was no reason I couldn't look at blind options while I waited. I went over to Supreme Paint on PCH in Redondo Beach afterwards and had a way better experience. They have a better showroom too. read more

just had laminate flooring installed on our first floor. the workmen were meticulous, their expertise was extraordinary, and the improve- ment in the appearance of our floor is amazing. my only regret is that i wish we had done it 20 years,ago. i'm amazed that three workmen could have removed our old flooring & installed the new, including moving our stove, refrigerator, curio cabinet and other bulky items.i had seen the work they had done on my doctor"s office in san pedro - it still looks like new after several years. i'm so glad i followed his recomen- dation and went to fred's. - and, finally, the price was about two grand less than i had expected. fred's carpeting is the real deal.. read more

Fred's Carpets Plus gets a BIG 2 thumbs up from me!!! :) I work at a local school and I needed a bunch of square carpet pieces for the students to sit on. I walked into the store and was greeted by Frank. When I explained to him who I was and what I was looking for he smiled and said to drive around to the back of the store. I then drove around to the back and was greeted again by Frank and also another employee Jamie. They said that they love helping out and supporting the local schools. I was able to get all of the carpet squares I needed and then some!! Both Frank and Jamie went above and beyond what I was expecting and couldn't have been kinder or more supportive!! Well, yes they could and did, as they then loaded all of the carpets into my vehicle for me!!
