I actually never went into the showroom - I called and was put in touch with Richard who came out to the house with 6 samples he had pulled after my description of what we needed, two of which were on sale (never a bad thing). We made a choice and he put the carpet aside for us - and then we had to make them wait for a few weeks while some interior touch up work was being done. Brian at Fred's Carpets Plus on Hawthorne Blvd just south of PCH greatly EXCEEDED all of my expectations during the sale and installation of my new carpeting. Brian helped identify carpets that would meet our needs and provided the pros and cons of each. There was never any pressure to buy and there was never an upsell. He also carefully had us evaluate padding choices so we selected the one most comfortable for us. Brian came out to our house and carefully measured up the rooms. He then calculated what I thought was a fair price and a good value. He ordered the carpet and it actually came in faster than expected. He had someone from scheduling call to arrange an installation date. The two installers were very experienced and pleasant. They were more concerned with doing a quality install than getting done quickly. Afterwards, I had Brian bind and apply slip resistant backing (at a nominal charge) to a few remnants so I could have matching area rugs. This great business is owned & operated by a family who has been in this biz for 65 years! They were recommended to me by my general contractor, who has been their customer forever. In my house I have a combination of real & fake wood flooring, tile, and even a slate floor. I like variety. For the curved staircase I decided to go with carpet, thinking it would be quieter & safer. Enter Fred's Carpet. Their newest location (their second, formerly Westchester Carpets) happened to be just 10 minutes away at Hawthorne & PCH. Lucky for me, considering I spent the better part of 3 days carrying samples home to choose exactly the right color. Salesman Brian was amazing throughout! He really really knows carpets. I was impressed to the max. Installation took place yesterday. Fred's installers are their own employees & I was told that most of them have at least 20 years experience with the company. They know what they're doing and this was evident. The installers carefully wiped off minor smudges from my walls & even swept the driveway where they had cut the new carpet. Fred's sells a variety of flooring products, as well as window treatments. When it comes time for some window blinds, I'm heading back to Fred's. Now it's clear to me why Fred's original location (also in Torrance) has won awards, including South Bay's Best Carpeting/Floor Covering Store......for 5 consecutive years. My stair carpeting looks perfect, btw. And because I upgraded the padding, it's kinda like walking on a cloud. My tired old knees will thank me for many years to come...... read more

We checked this place out when looking for hardwood to finish off our master because it was local and had decent reviews on yelp. They had a good selection, and surprisingly the salesman was helpful and not pushy. We took our time picking out a few samples and decided which we liked best later that week. They came out & measured, showed up on time and gave us a reasonable quote. It took us several months though to figure out when the timing would work out well and when we could fund the purchase. When I called Brian the salesman back he remembered us and still had the order written down, and honored the quote even though the material had gone up. Anyway dealing with them has been a positive experience. They are very professional. Our new floor is very nice and unique. We have something a lot nicer thanks we'd just went to a big home store and it Didnt cost more. read more

Doing a lot of home remodeling, I look to Yelp for referrals and appreciate honest reviews. So I post when I find a great firm to try to help others, too. This is one I'd like to shout from the mountains. Fred's Carpet and Brian Ulrich are the best. Product: A huge selection! (Don't worry, the help narrow it down for you.) Prices met or were under the three other bids I obtained (including Costco's vendor). Knowledge: Brian knows flooring. I've been in property management for years and he knows more than my commercial vendors. He was extremely kind and didn't try to oversell me, which I appreciated. Service: It took us a long time to decide and never was there pressure. Always courteous about my indecision and delays (and stopping back in the store). We actually bought our carpet in March, but didn't know when we could install. Every now and then I'd get a polite call asking if we were ready and I'd have to say no - "No problem", they'd respond kindly. Installation: We were able to install in August, and they allowed us to spread out installation because of our room configuration. That impressed me; it can't be the most efficient work for their people, but as a customer, I was their priority. The two workers were professional, courteous, fast as can be, and did an excellent job of installing. They didn't even flinch when I'd ask that a piece of furniture be moved an inch. This was amazing to me: Before we'd even ordered the carpet, I mentioned we also had to replace a bamboo floor transition strip of about 3' for a job a carpenter was doing for us at the time. Brian counseled us what type we needed and tracked down an exact match (of an old floor). He spent a lot of time on this extremely small sale of material only. When does that happen? I could say more, but this would start looking fake. You need flooring? This is the place. read more

We needed to replace the carpet in our living room (the only place in our house with carpet) and after reading reviews on Yelp, we decided to check out Fred's Carpet Plus. This Mom & Pops store is located in the neighborhood and offers a huge selection of carpets with very well trained staff to help you pick what you need. The best part is they are not pushy at all and let you take your time and borrow samples to take home to make sure you pick the right color to match your décor. We worked with Dick and Brian who were both fantastic. Dick helped us pick the right carpet, while Brian came out to the house to measure the room to make sure everything went smoothly during installation. Brian also helped educate us on the best place to have a seam (low traffic area) near the back of the room. The installation went very well and they even helped us move our 500+ pound piano back into the room. The new carpet looks absolutely wonderful. Some of the best money I have ever spent. These folks have been in business for over 60 years and it is not hard to see why. They are so easy to work and provide excellent service. He was knowledgeable and patient with my indecision and the delays caused by other parts of the remodel. He came out multiple times to measure when the project changed.
