I spent the weekend at the Clift Royal for a weekend staycation, and decided to check out the breakfast here. The line was SOOO long around 9am, it took about 20 minutes to get to the register to order. The prices are pretty outrageous, even for SF, and the selections aren't the greatest. I ended up getting a bagel which was pretty good, but nothing special. It also took like 15 minutes to prepare :/ I also tried some of the pastries - a cinnamon roll and a berry tart. Neither were very good, and I'd recommend passing on the pastries. The dining area is super cute, and this place definitely has potential. Running behind, while staying at Clift Royal where Fredericks resides, we decided to use our room credit toward breakfast before heading out for the day. The prices are so immensely overpriced, far from elevated as described. It is simply an American cafe offering the basics with a few fancy names. Our order consisted of two California omelets ($24 each), a side order of bacon ($8) and freshly squeezed orange juice ($8). The side order of bacon consisted of four greasy, limp thinly sliced pieces. The orange juice was anything but freshly squeezed as advertised. The California omelets came with a thick slice of avocado and tomato, a handful of well seasoned potatoes and a fluffy egg omelet with cheese and mushroom in one and cheese and ham in the other. The omelet meal was pretty tasty giving Nation's vibes. When my husband received our order, it was missing the bacon and orange juice. The person who took my husband's order failed to include the bacon and orange juice, the person who gave him the order told him he failed to place the order. In absence of the food credit, I would not spend our money here. The quality of food is similar to an American diner like that of Nation's or Mel's, which we have not frequented in the last decade plus. Fredricks is a typical overpriced, San Francisco hotel breakfast. It's a good place to eat if you are travelling for business where your meal will be reimbursed, and you're in a hurry. It's a coffee shop-like counter where they serve up food. The food comes out fairly quickly. The menu is a traditional bacon and eggs, pancakes, waffles and omelets style. The food is not bad, just overpriced. This cafe is downstairs from the Clift Royal Sonesta hotel. We ate here because we had a resort credit with our hotel stay. Had we not had the credit, we probably would have eaten at the delicatessen across the street instead. If you're not in a hurry to eat breakfast at your hotel, you're probably better off going a little further and dining at one of the really great breakfast places in the City instead. Here's a tip if you're eating here and want to save money. They have a la carte options that are not on the printed menu. A platter with two eggs with toast and breakfast potatoes costs $24. But if you get the eggs separately without the toast and potatoes, it's only $6. Please note that the eggs are really small, so you might need to order more than two if you are a big eater. If we stay at the hotel again, we'll probably be back. But only if we have another resort credit. read more

We waited in line for over 20 minutes and then, after giving our order, were shocked to find that they added a 18% service charge. When they then asked for a tip, we declined with glee. Most places these days are so pretentious with their marketing fluff, and it's unfortunate that Fredericks is a prime example of those places. Under the hotel's description of Fredericks, it describes the restaurant as having a high end coffee program, gourmet pastries, creative food and drinks, etc. Foodjoyy even advertises the menu as a culinary journey that combines classic favorites with a modern twist. In reality, it's all completely bogus. Complete lies. Misleading, fraudulent, and a complete sham. The cappuccino ($7) tasted like fat-free milk with no essence of coffee. The milk foam appeared like a bubble bath. No form, just a disappointment. High end coffee program? Let's not kid ourselves. It looked like it was made from a dirty Nespresso or Keurig. Poor foam is usually due to poor cleanliness, poor technique, or both. The "gourmet" pastries were massive, but had no substance and were hollow in quality. I tried ordering the Danish ($6) for two days, but it was never available. Settled for a muffin ($5) and a scone ($6); both were dry and filled with depression. The "freshly squeezed" juices were not freshly squeezed, but rather came from a juice carton. I clearly saw the workers taking the cartons out from the fridge. Both "freshly squeezed" orange and grapefruit juices went for $10. Save yourself the trouble and get the carton from a nearby grocery store before entering the restaurant for a fraction of the price and no tip. The Eggs Benedict ($25) had a "unique" hollandaise sauce that was from a powdered mix. If you've tasted real hollandaise sauce, you'd know it wasn't real. No essence of fresh lemon or at the bare minimum, vinegar. Just butter, fat, and sadness. The California Omelet ($25) was only called California purely because of the avocado, which wasn't sliced for presentation. A fat quarter chunk of avo was plopped on top of the omelet. But why? It's to charge a ridiculous price for bad food. The potatoes that accompanied the Eggs Benedict and California Omelet tastes worse than the country potatoes at your most disliked diner. Simply garnishing it with poorly chopped parsley doesn't make it gourmet, creative, or modern. Just sloppy. It's apparently still easy to mess up potatoes in 2025. If you review the menu, it looks promising with prices more or less similar to most restaurants in San Francisco, but I guarantee you that ordering from any fast food restaurant along with their coffee will result in a more worthwhile experience. I suppose the decor looks modern and chic, but you can't appreciate it when there are numerous uncleared tables with leftover plates, cups, utensils, etc. Upon overhearing customers, they confirmed the vibe. They didn't sound happy when ordering or when eating. It seems like they've stumbled upon Fredericks either from an Amex benefit or from unfortunate luck. Don't be fooled by the fancy marketing. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere that actually delivers. read more

Very disappointing... I was on vacation and my flight landed early. I chose this restaurant because it was close to my hotel. The menu was like a grab and go bakery, not a sit down restaurant. That was ok. The inside was very clean and pretty! It was attached to a hotel so a lot of the guests were down there eating as well. I got the Belgian Waffle ($20) and sausage links ($8). The price was NOT worth it..... The waffle was big but not the right texture for a Belgian waffle. Not worth $20 that's for sure. The sausage links were good but again, not worth $8. My opinion, the waffle with a side of meat should have been $20. That price seems more reasonable to me also factoring in that it was attached to a hotel. read more

I thought Fredericks was delicious! I was in town for Dreamforce and wanted to find a quick bite on the way to the conference. Fredericks was in between my hotel and Moscone Center so I popped in and was glad I did! I got a chia pudding, a muffin, and a cold brew. The chia pudding was delicious, not too sweet, and the muffin was fluffy and tasty. The coffee was good, too, but I wish I'd looked at the sizing options before ordering because I accidentally chose the smallest one. But that's on me for anticipating a Starbucks grande to be the average size served everywhere - just a heads up if you're similar in that regard. They also had a really expansive selection of pastries and breakfast sandwiches. Had I been in the city longer, I would have definitely returned to try the different pastries. We ate here four days in a row as it is the in-hotel breakfast option for the Royal Sonesta. Most of their food including the pastries and breakfast sandwiches are up in the front display ready to be heated up. If you order one of these items you will get it almost instantly. If you order anything that requires the kitchen to be involved be ready to wait. Over the stay we tried multiple pastries none of them great. The best was a blueberry danish. We tried the eggs benedict which was very good. Skip the breakfast sandwiches. I ordered the union square which has a thick sausage patty that was ice cold in the middle. When I asked for it to be cooked again they took offense. Juices were $8 each for a small 12oz cup. Coffee was great and is the standout for sure. The delicious homemade cinnamon rolls pictured in other comments are nowhere to be found. I did finally get a cinnamon roll on our last morning and it was small, hard, and looked nothing like the other pictures. Overall, just OK but you pay the price for convenience. Look to spend $50-60 for a hot breakfast for two, and $30 for two pastries and two juices. Cinnamon roll lovers must come to Fredericks!! It recently added to the menu and I learned that it was made in-house!! It was so delicious especially when it was served warm. This restaurant has the potential to be in great little neighborhood restaurant. It is in a very quaint neighborhood with cute shops and surrounding areas. Our first time was last night. Unfortunately, the experience started out poorly because we waited 15 minutes before we could even order our drinks while everybody else in the restaurant was getting plenty of service. The food was just OK, nothing that stood out as really good. They appeared to be shortstaffed and we saw other people coming in from outside with empty glasses asking for refills or even asking for menus. The owner is very sweet and attentive, but should focus more on servicing all customers, not just a few select tables as we observed. One thing I found tacky is He walks around with the squirt gun loaded with tequila, offering to squirt it in your mouth.
