Just had our unsightly 90 ft. back fence replaced with a new vinyl fence. The side fences, however,…read moreare comprised of unpainted/unstained cedar. In fact, one side contained both old and new wood paling and the old wood was already a dis-colored, faded grey color. So my task this past weekend was to paint both side fences to match the tan color of our new vinyl fence. In the past, I've always used Behr brand paint from Home Depot. Mainly because Home Depot is just so convenient. This time I decided to venture out because I knew the parking lot at the Balboa Home Depot was going to be a zoo - there's construction happening next door at the old Ralphs supermarket, and this Home Depot is always crazy busy on the weekends with DIY'ers. I had a choice of 3 brands - Sherwin-Williams, Dunn-Edwards and Frazee, all of them with stores in the Kearney Mesa area. I chose the Sherwin-Williams brand because of: 1. A particular review on the web: http://www.oneprojectcloser.com/price-review-duron-ralph-lauren-behr-valspar-paint-vs/ 2. Our paint contractor used Sherwin-Williams paint for both the interior and exterior as part of our home remodel. It turned out great by the way. 3. Ease of the commute. Of the 3, this shop is the easiest to get to off of the freeway 52. Jamarr, the asst. manager, was friendly and very helpful. He advised me on the type of paint to use for the wood fence, and based on my sq. footage, he knew how many gallons I needed. He also created a custom paint color for me using a piece of the vinyl fence that I had brought along. Sherwin-Williams paint is awesome. I purchased a water-based, satin gloss paint which required no separate primer. It is definitely thicker than Behr which actually makes it less time-consuming to apply. I didn't have to apply a complete 2nd coat (which is very common with Behr), a single coat was sufficient; even to cover up the wood dis-coloration. But most importantly, there was less dripping. This means less spillage and splattering. In fact, I didn't even have to use a drop cloth. Lastly, the paint match with the vinyl fence was spot on. There is a good reason the professionals use this product. Sorry Home Depot, from now on this is where I'm going for all of my house-painting needs.

Wherein Williams paint is great if you're a contractor, but as a DYI store not so much. A few weeks…read moreback I purchased paint for a project and the customer service rep informed me about the 40% off sale they were having today 24April26. He created an account for me and informed me that as a member of the armed forces I get an additional 15% off, confirming this I ask to verify that in addition to the 40% off sale the 15% can be applied and he said sure can. Now either the rep wasn't sure of it or if it is a store by store case not sure. I arrived at this location and learn that one they can't see my account as its only at the I signed up at, makes no sense how a store this big cannot see my account regardless where it was set up at! Now obviously what was said to me at one store and said here are two different things. And I had to pick between one or the other discounts. No-brainer 40% off would be the right way to go. However, the price tag they came with a 5 gallon and a 1 gallon can of paint is ridiculous at this place for a DY project. I should have went to Home Depot or Lowe's where I've could've gotten the same quality paint and a much cheaper price. In other words what I'm saying is you're paying for the name on the can versus paying for something that's a lot cheaper for the same quality elsewhere. I will say this this is the last time I will shop at Sherman Williams as the price tag is not worth any project I have to do. To put it in perspective the 5 gallon can of paint I bought today was close to $300 and the 1 gallon can after a discount was $60. For the same paint semi gloss I can buy for under $200 for the 5 gallon K and under $50 for the 1 gallon can. You should be ashamed for charging so much money for non-contractor customers.

Over the years, we've painted everything from walls and furniture to a massive fireplace, and the quality difference is night and day. Early on, we experimented with cheaper paints, thinking we were saving money. In reality, we weren't. Lower-cost paints were harder to apply, didn't wear well, peeled, weren't truly wipeable, and simply didn't hold up over time. We learned quickly that paying a bit more upfront for Dunne-Edwards means better coverage, better durability, and far better long-term results, which is the real savings. Most recently, we used Dunne-Edwards products to refresh a special piece that's been in our family for 75 years. With their guidance, we transformed it into a true statement piece, even adding gold appliqué for a little extra character. While painting it, I was flooded with memories of my grandfather staining the same piece in his driveway more than 40 years ago, an unexpectedly meaningful moment. Dunne-Edwards continues to be a source of both inspiration and trust for us, whether we're tackling practical projects like walls or something more creative and sentimental. The quality of their products fully matches the price, and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone who wants results that last. Thank you, Dunne-Edwards, for consistently delivering excellence--and for being part of projects that matter.

I came to order quart samples of colors I was considering. He suggested and offered a color fan, so I was certain of my choices, then prompted me for the name of the contractor I was working with, which resulted in 25% off what would have been over $150 bill. He boxed them up, and sent me home with an opener and several mixing sticks. I can't recommend him highly enough! I feel good knowing that my house painting order is going to this Dunn-Edward's store.

Over 10 years ago, they were kind enough to leave the old paint can in the garage. It was completely dried out of course. I called ahead to check to see if they could paint match, she confirmed they do but they need a large enough sample to scan. She asked that I bring the can in and they will determine if it can be done. I walked in handed her my can she took a look and the dried paint on the lid was enough for a good scan! She was very knowledgeable without even looking at the label she could already tell what finish it was and type. She did warn me it was 10 year old paint and they could get it as close to the color as possible. I knew it would be far fetched to match exact but I will eventually will repaint the entire kitchen later on. I just needed enough to cover up wall patches. I was in and out in about 15-20 minutes! Quick scan and my paint was created! Such an easy process! She even provided a 10% discount. I just painted the walls and it's a spot on match! This exceeded my expectations!

I went into this location to get some paint that would match a stain I previously used (different brand). Matching wood stain to a paint I realized is harder than I thought. He enthusiastic took on the challenge and after some trial and error he created the perfect paint color to match the wood stain I brought in. I also overheard the manager on the phone with a customer and she was very professional and on top of her game helping the person on the other end of the phone. Overall, a great experience and would certainly go back for my painting needs.

I gave her a sample of the metal I'm in need of matching and she tells me that it should be no problem. She also asked what finish I would like... Ummm, I don't know I tell her "You're the professional". I told her the first attempt was Semi-gloss and that was WRONG!!! So she made an executive decision and scanned my color. She worked her magic and upon testing the mix decided she didn't like it..... Something about reds and greens being wrong... Looked brown to me.. She added this and mixed it and still didn't like it. Still brown to me.... Added something else and tested it again.. Closer I guess but she still didn't like it... so back to more of something to the mix.. The issue is online when you want to schedule with a color specialist it says to come into the store. So I go into the store with my baby because the online color specialist option also doesn't work. When I get into the store there are like a million color swatches to choose from but they're absolutely pointless if I'm without an expert. I then ask an employee to help me with finding or locating a color expert, he turns and asks the guy next to him, who literally scans a QR code on the wall that tells him the same thing the online website told me which was to come into a store... I felt like it was an SNL skit, like I was being pranked and a famous person and their tv crew were going to pop out from behind the desk. At one point after I watched them try to figure out the QR code, I offered to just give them my phone number and they could give it to the paint expert once they found out how to use the QR code, and they both looked at me with blank stares, looked back down and completely ignored me. I picked up my baby and left, no wiser on what paint colors to choose for my exterior, and absolutely frustrated that I wasted my time going here.
