It's rare these days to find retail staff who go above and beyond, and these two certainly did (even humoring me as I reminisced about my own time working in retail). They have a small paint center. Have an cast iron stove that needs some work? This is the only hardware store in the region that seems to carry anything at all for them. There are also plenty of commonly needed tools and hardware, a pet supplies and wild bird feeding area, plus a small outdoor/camping section complete with Latitude 40 Maps - my favorite. This is just a supremely necessary place and I appreciate it's existence, even if I do have to go down to bigger stores for some things.
