Of all the locations, I go to this one the most because I work downtown. It's easy to get in and out but there are often tourists here given the proximity to Pike Place Market. This is not cheap chocolate. Aside from their salted caramels and gold bars, which are fan favorites, I love to pick out yummies from the counter. I was told recently by a sales person that my taste was eclectic and she felt unable to provide recommendations based on what I had chosen. I like candy, what I can say? The milk chocolate tas de noix will bring you to tears. I recently gave my friend one and I swear she made noises I've never heard her make in the 4 years that I've known here. The sounds were happy, muffled sighs as she bit into the candy. It's like that for me too. Every. Single. Time. The orange confit absolutely brings me to my knees. The orange peel is sweet and chewy covered by the creamiest, most decadent chocolate you can imagine. I'm not sure how many of these I can eat at once but suffice to say, I haven't reached my limit yet. I tend to buy Fran's as gifts for others. I only had the Americano but it was so great! And it came with a mini chocolate, which was very tasty. The worker there brought out little samples of the caramel chocolate with nuts. Wow that was amazing!! Still can taste it when I close my eyes. There are limited spots to sit inside. There are for-here mugs that are a nice touch, but they have paper to-go cups as well. I actually think it's better than the actual chocolates themselves. I was lucky enough to be gifted a 16 piece box by my friend. Walking into Fran's Chocolates was an experience to behold. Elegant and pristine space. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic service. I was offered a sample when I walked in - a Salted Caramel chocolate. Located half a block from Pike's Market Place, this highly overrated chocolate shop is clean and has a fair selection to meet your desire. My mother inlaw bought several boxes of milk chocolate and salted caramels. At $2 a piece, it is pricey for the very small piece of chocolate that you receive. Worth it I would say just to try. I got the coconut gold bar, macadamia gold bar, milk chocolate truffle and salted caramel pieces. I am not a big fan of the salt on top so I just brushed it off. A small, pre-made box of chocolate will run you $20+. If you're into craft chocolate, head to Fran's. They make exquisite chocolate truffles; however, this place is pricey. Expect to pay up if you purchase chocolate from this place. The chocolate is incredible, and unbelievably delectable. It's rich but not too buttery, it melts in your mouth in an explosion of flavor! Last but certainly not least... The chocolates are out of this world. Not a fan of salted chocolates and I understand that Fran really isn't either which is quite ironic considering she is the Queen of salted caramels. I was greeted immediately and offered some of their chilled drinking chocolate, my oh my... it was sweet and delish! but I wouldn't be able to drink too much of this stuff. Fran's are very delicate chocolates, a bit different than many of my other favorite chocolate stores. I found myself eating their pieces slowly as to savor them and their petite size. I'd recommend the salted caramel pieces. These were my favorite. A big hearty thanks to Cassie N. my Seattle Yelp friend. She and I were complimenting each other on recent Salted Caramel experiences and she asked me if I had ever had Fran's. I checked out their website and responded back, "No, but I have placed an order". OMG, thanks so much Cassie for introducing me to an amazing chocolate treat that just happens to be Salted Caramel as well. I thought I had found a pretty amazing Salted Caramel here in my hometown of Saint Louis, but Fran's totally won my chocolate heart. I ordered multiple gift boxes, since I had a family birthday coming up and missed a couple of Saint Patrick's Day gifts. The 7 piece green box contained 4 Gray Salt Caramels dipped in dark chocolate and 3 Smoked Salt Caramels dipped in milk chocolate. Both were almost orgasmic as they melted in to your mouth. My only wish, is that the box had 4 Smoked Caramels because they were my favorite. I'm worried that the three boxes being given as gifts may not survive their time in the house, but I will remain strong. Vegan review! I am pleased to say that Fran's has several vegan options, and the best part is that the staff was knowledgable enough to point them out to me. When I asked if one particular truffle was dairy-free, he gave me the list of alllllll the truffles that were dairy-free. It's always nice when the staff actually gives you a confident answer and doesn't awkwardly/cluelessly stare at you. Anyway, I had the dark chocolate almond trio. It was indeed very tasty, but not the best I've had. It was essentially just chocolate-covered almonds, not a creamy-centered truffle, but the chocolate was a great quality and just the right amount of darkness. I love the space, too. I had to stop by while traveling in Seattle-- Fran's Chocolates have been featured on Food Network multiple times. This is a smaller location located in the Four Seasons lobby. The chocolates are presented in what appear to be jewelry cases! Service was friendly by the entire team during the visit. After some sampling, I went with some dark chocolate camels with special sea salt and some orange truffles. The chocolates were expensive, but certainly not outrageous for the quality. Taste was on point-- but the caramel was a weird texture. I enjoyed the smokiness of the sea salt blended with the sweet caramel and seductive dark chocolate. read more

I only came here to try "Obama's salted caramels." Basically, Obama loves these things and has had them shipped to the White House on many an occasion. This location is a few blocks away from the Pike Market, so I decided to make the trek up to see what the big deal was all about. Coming from LA, I've been jaded by the "chocalatier"/gourmet aspect when it comes to chocolates, so I knew I'd be shelling out a pretty penny for some minuscule caramel bites. Little did I know that this confectionery is so upscale they have "guards" walking around the shop. The lady who helped me was very nice, but after sampling 1 or 2 complimentary chocolates, she got very impatient with me. Look, I'm a tourist and I'm frugal and I honestly take my time when purchasing quality goods. She tried to upsell me on three salted caramels by offering me a gift-wrapped box for an extra $6 to which I said heck no and just bought them loosely. Ok, these caramels are mouthwatering and delicious....but nothing far from the ones I've had in LA. I'd stop by once to get 3 for $6 and then move on, if I were you. I'll admit it. I'm a chocolate addict. So when I last went to Seattle for a Jay-Z concert, I had to stop by Fran's Chocolates. This Fran's is located in the Four Seasons, right in the heart of downtown Seattle. I know they have another location, but this one is extra fancy schmancy - I almost felt like I was sitting in an upscale New York department store! The chocolate selection is intense and amazing, to say the least. I had a really difficult time choosing which chocolates I wanted to taste, especially with the hefty price tag involved - most of the pieces run around $1.50/each and are only about the length of a quarter. Still, that didn't stop me from throwing down over $25 on a couple of pieces of chocolate! Let me tell you, it was some of the best money I've ever spent. Their chocolate apricot is AH-MAAAA-ZING! The apricot is perfectly ripe, tender, moist and the dark chocolate (probably a high amount of cacao since this place is baller and only uses high quality ingredients) is the perfect complement to the tartness of the fruit. I also tried their oolong tea chocolate, as well as their hazelnut crunch. OMG, the hazelnut crunch was freaking delicious - if you like nutella, then prepare yourself for a real treat because it's basically the flavor of nutella, with less refined sugars and more of a roasted taste! The hazelnut is smoother than peanut butter!!! But oh, I can't forget the best chocolate of all, which is what they're specifically known for - their SEA SALT CARAMELS!!! They come in milk chocolate with golden sea salt and dark chocolate with gray sea salt. Both are powerful because the high quality of the caramel is evident and the sea salt really adds a rich depth of flavor. Plus, sea salt is much better for you than regular salt!!! That kind of justifies eating like 20 of these, right? Okay, I'm just trying to rationalize my own addiction - don't mind me. Because the caramels are so famous, you can purchase rows of them for a bit cheaper, so if you're planning on eating a ton like me, then that would be the more cost effective way to go. Just in case you can't make it all the way out to Seattle for Fran's, I would like to proudly declare that Fran's sells their chocolates at Whole Foods throughout SoCal and they actually carry a pretty wide selection! I also know they sell them at various grocery stores in New York, as I have seen Ina Garten purchase them for a recipe on her show. You can also order their chocolates off their website - they come shipped in super elegant packaging and taste incredibly fresh! Can you tell I'm in love with this place? My instincts were right: this place has some deliciousness to surpass my hot chocolate cravings! Such a cute place for an afternoon sweet date! I loved their collage art made of different kinds of pralines. The space is small, but feels very airy. Great for watching the street from their tall window seats. I can't speak of their chocolates, as I came here strictly for hot coco, but I would say that they looked promising and decently priced at $2 per piece. Onto the hot coco: I picked 12 oz cup (slightly above $5 and worth it) and was told that they make it with chocolate shavings and steamed whole milk. The flavor was deep, dark chocolate, but still very creamy. I really appreciate the fact that they made it very hot. The service was very courteous and engaging, but I was surprised that my barista put my drink in a to go cup. She clearly saw that I sat down at a table, because she came back to confirm that I wanted whipped cream. As I later learned from the pictures on IG it's a great idea to put your whipped cream on the side, and that indeed, they have nice 'for here' cups. Not a big deal, but next time I will clarify that. Chocolate has the second biggest part of my heart. It's the best. Frans is top tier for quality and taste of milk chocolate. This location is always a bit odd. When I stop in, about 1/3 of the time the sales staff offer me a piece of chocolate (knowing I am going to purchase as I already have items in my hand), another 1/3 of the time I see them offering it to others but not to me and the last 1/3, I don't see them offering it to anyone. It's hit or miss on the samples which I find every odd as every time I have a sample - I end up buying more of that to take home. The grey salt caramel is amazing - it is a Frans made caramel that you cannot get anywhere else. It literally melts in your mouth. I always pick up a box or few lone items of the seasonal festivity that is currently going on. In my last trip, I picked up a box of half milk, half dark Santa's. The milk were delicious, the dark were ok. I am not a huge fan of Frans Dark Chocolate, but their Milk Chocolate is one of the very best. For Dark Chocolate - I stick to See's. If you are in the Seattle area, I definitely recommend popping into Frans to see what their seasonal offerings are - they are always super cute and a hit with the family and kiddos! read more

During our most recent visit to Seattle, we had to stop by Fran's Chocolates. As the official chocolatier of the White House (we had to visit, since this is Barack Obama's favorite chocolate store), Fran's Chocolates is known for their salted caramels. The store closes relatively early, but we made it in at 7:20 p.m. (right before they closed at 7:30 p.m.). The parking situation here is a beast, as the store doesn't have its own parking. It's adjacent (or slightly within) The Four Seasons Hotel. Since we had a wheelchair, our driver just stayed in the loading zone for a few minutes (there's a three-minute loading zone) since we knew we couldn't be in the store for very long. If we went there earlier, I would have parked in the parking lot by Target, picked up water from Target and then walked to Fran's Chocolates; it's an easy walk across the street. We were immediately greeted with free samples of their chilled drinking chocolate, which was different ... I'm used to drinking chocolate being hot, so this chilled option was different to experience. It was still really rich, like drinking a chocolate bar that had been melted, then stuck in the fridge. It's super super sweet, meant to be enjoyed in small doses. Neat! The sheer amount of chocolates available can be overwhelming, but the helpful staff walked us through everything. The displays were impeccable in presentation and clearly labeled, too. The hardest part was actually deciding what to order. Each piece is $2.25, so you can't get too carried away. Since we had to rush (the store was closing in a few minutes), we ended up getting three of the signature caramels and one chocolate bar. But, it was really neat to be in the actual Fran's store, and I marveled at all their chocolate assortments. If you get a box of these, you know you are loved, since these chocolates cost a pretty penny. Here's what we got, as well as what I want to try next time: Gray Salt Caramels: Of course, we couldn't walk out of Fran's without those famous salted caramels, so we got three - one for each of us. I had these caramels from the Starbucks Roastery (I think they're the exclusive Starbucks location that carries these), so I had tasted them before and know how addictively good they are. What a treat it was to get our hands on these again! These salt caramels are slightly different from the smoked salt version because these have a soft, buttery caramel center dipped in dark chocolate and finished with gray salt (instead of smoked sea salt). The smoked salt caramels are also dipped in milk chocolate (not dark chocolate). I love dark chocolate, and this sported the perfect blend of sweet meets salty. I enjoy dark chocolate, and it provided the ideal hint of sweetness to balance the slightly salty topping. My favorite part is the luscious caramel that comes oozing out once you pop the caramel into your mouth and start to chew. If you're getting one treat from this store, be sure to try the grey salt and smoked salt caramel. Macadamia Gold Bar: These bars are sold in boxes, but the different bars are also available individually. This one features plentiful macadamia nuts, buttery caramel and dark chocolate. We got this for a family member who really likes macadamia nuts. The mac nuts are ample within the bar and add a great crunch to the otherwise silky smooth texture from the caramel and velvety dark chocolate. Almond Goldbites: If I were ordering a chocolate bar for myself, this is one I would choose. This bar features toasted almonds that add a subtle crunch to a mixture of buttery caramel and rich dark chocolate. I love almonds more than mac nuts, so I would want to get this bar. I'm sure it tastes similar to the Macadamia Gold, in that there's bits of crunch interspersed within the bar, but with slivers of almonds instead of mac nuts. Yum! Milk Chocolate Hazelnut Diamonds: I was eyeing these truffles because they featured one of my favorite flavors - hazelnut. These diamond-shaped truffles cannot be missed because of their distinct shape. They feature finely ground Oregon hazelnuts that are blended with rich, creamy milk chocolate. I like Nutella and anything that has to do with hazelnuts, so this presents the perfect blend. I also do like the richer taste of milk chocolate, so I'm sure these diamonds give "diamond in the rough" a new meaning. Chocolate Imperials: This was a dark chocolate truffle that looked positively delightful. It featured a soft, dark chocolate center with a dark chocolate encasing and a topping of crushed cacao nuts. I love it when desserts have crushed cacao on top for that earthy, nutty flavor. I also would love that dark chocolate center that reminds me of a molten chocolate cake. read more

I'm not a huge fan of the Dark Chocolate sauce, but that's because I've tried something else previously and I wanted to compare it to Fran's. Excellent service in this location. There's an entrance from the street and from within the hotel. Beautiful hotel by the way, and I was fortunate enough to afford to check out the bathroom by the restaurant. But anyways, the look inside reminds of of a typical chocolate shop, with boxed sets for you to choose from, or you can make your own box. For the same price, we decided to make our own box. I got the smoked salted caramel, the oolong tea, and the whiskey something. The oolong tea and the whiskey something was just okay, and I probably wouldn't go back and try these considering how expensive these small pieces are. We found this place on a "must visit" list while in Seattle. It was conventionally located in downtown Seattle. It is attached to a hotel. It is definitely an upscale chocolate store (I think there's a fancy word for that, but I can't think of it). The service was splendid and the caramel was sinful. You get a caramel sample when you walk in and omg.. how could I not get a couple pieces? The prices are a bit high so we only got two pieces each. One for now and one for later ;) I had a great experience but I'm unsure if it's somewhere I would need to return too. I wanted everything, but I just could rationalize the price. This is a fancy, local chocolatier down near the Seattle Art Museum and the Pike Place Market. Honestly, at $2.50 per piece, I haven't tried many things here. Everything is artfully spaced and beautifully presented, but it is also a bit sparse. It gives the effect of "you probably can't afford anything here." That being said, everyone who works here is very friendly the past few times I've been in. They also greet you at the door with a sample, sometimes it piece of plain chocolate, other times one of their caramels. If it's the latter, then you're in for a real treat because to me, that is the reason to come here. The milk chocolate caramels come with smoked salt on top, and the dark chocolate come with gray salt. Both are incredibly delicious. I love how the caramel just oozes out. You can tell everything is handmade, and made with the highest quality ingredients and the utmost care. And you will definitely pay for it. I also recommend their caramel sauce and their raspberry sauce (seedless!) Although you can pick those up at QFC or Safeway for a few dollars less. During the holidays they have stunning chocolate displays, and elaborate items for purchase. For example, when I came in around Easter, they had the most gorgeous eggs, dusted with gold luster and filled with little chocolate ducklings. I believe they were around $60 a piece. The best dark chocolate w/gray salt that I've ever tasted. Lovely with a great old vintage port. Sadly the only way Fran's ships internet orders is with Fed Ex which is a killer. Fed Ex in our area is beyond horrible. They try to jam packages in USPS boxes, throw them in the yard if they don't fit, put them under cars instead of the porch, or deliver them to the wrong address. read more

We paid about 30 something dollars to park near Pike's Market. After we looked at everything we wanted to look at, we still had an hour to kill. So we decided to walk towards the Four Season's Hotel. My friend's mom told us to try Fran's Chocolates, so I had to and luckily it was right next to the hotel. We walked in and it was so sterile. Even though the environment was cold, I received a very warm friendly welcome from one of the ladies. We walked further in to look at their menu and were offered samples of salted caramel chocolates. It was amazingly delicious. I know that salted caramel has been overdone as of late, but I cannot help to still love this flavor combo. I walked over to the display of chocolates. They are amazingly beautiful. You can see the meticulous attention to detail in each little piece of candy. The warm and friendly service continued. They were happy to assist me with any questions I had and offered suggestions. The suggestions weren't canned answers, rather they asked me questions that helped them assist me. They asked if I liked dark, since the last three pieces I picked were milk. I told them I preferred milk but do sometimes eat dark. Since she saw my trepidation towards dark chocolate, she suggested the Oolong Tea Truffle as something that could ease me in. They wrapped up my chocolates in a pretty package with a pink ribbon. Place them carefully in a nice gift bad. It was the most dramatic packaging of chocolates I have ever seen. However, I enjoyed the presentation. I had a hard time bringing myself to opening the package to eat the goods. Out of all the milk chocolates I bought, which were all exceptional, I actually liked the suggested Oolong Tea Truffle the best! I was so surprised since I am not a big fan of tea nor dark chocolate. But this bite was the most amazing bite. I usually like chocolate/hazelnut combinations, but tea/dark chocolate is probably my new favorite combo! Overall, loved the service and the product. I will definitely stop by more often! read more
