We have attempted to try this place out 3 other times. They are closed on Mondays and the other two attempts had signs on the door saying they had power issues so were closed. Should have trusted my gut on this one. When we arrived I stood in front of the cashier and sign that said to wait to be seated for over 10 minutes while the women at the register visited. Finally I waved at them to ask them if I could be seated. The main woman rolled her eyes and told me to give my name and take a seat they will get with me soon. We sat over 30 minutes watching other groups walk in and have them get seated right away before us. There are no reservations taken at this restaurant so I was getting frustrated seeing this. When my family was finally seated my arms stuck to the table as it was super sticky and not cleaned well. My daughter and I both ordered the steak tips. We both ordered medium rare and all were brought to us well done. All our potatoes were super dry. We didn't complain as we never saw our waitress again until we had to flag her down to get our ticket. My husband ordered the NY strip medium rare and it was medium well. If you want a good steak or service this is probably not the best place in town to get that. Very disappointed. read more

Perfect place for state journalism lunch. It's fun to just let the kids choose the place. The Popeyes chicken sandwich was a good pick. And another kid said that the chili is good. The turkey avocado club was another kid's choice. And she said it was good too. There was some sadness that was hey we're out of sweet potato fries. I think it is a place that will be offered as a choice to the next group of students at state journalism. We got right in to a table and all ages were represented at this establishment. Good, solid food with something for everyone. Stopped in on the tail end of a 10 hour day of driving home on a road trip, and our party of 10 left happy with full stomachs. The waiter was absolutely fantastic, checking on our table often to refill waters and see if anyone needed anything, and patiently and happily chatting with the kids of the group, who were very excited to find a Pokémon fan (the kids had some Pokemon themed gear on). I had the Reuben burger--delicious and flavorful without being too salty, and a well cooked burger. My relatives enjoyed their meals as well--they had a variety with salads, chicken sandwiches, and pasta. Restaurant was clean and well taken care of too. Came into Franklins on 2 PM on a Thursday, was afraid they might be closed so I checked with my yelp app to see if they were open. They were and I was better for it. I started with avocado egg rolls that came with a great soy reduction- really hit the spot and came out quickly. Next I ordered the Asian Salmon plate which came with soup, side and a baguette. The chili was excelled but the sautéed veggies were a bit too greasy for my liking. The salmon was crisp and flaky just the way I like it. Thank you Franklin's! You're tops in Norfolk! After being disappointed in most dining choices in Norfolk, our friends all agreed on Franklin's this past Saturday night. The menu is AMAZING! I struggled to choose, like seriously struggled. My husband and I ended up sampling three appetizers instead of ordering dinner. A visit isn't complete without the steak tips and the avocado egg rolls, WOW! We also had the crab dip, which I didn't personally love but everyone else did. The Spin Art dip is something special too. The martini list is expansive for Norfolk, and the service was AMAZING! Kelly was our waitress, and she ROCKS! She loves what she does, and it shows! When the manager stopped by the table and asked if everything was ok, I mentioned it was taking a while to get some more fish. I have found the going a little tough sometimes in Norfolk for food. I get spoiled traveling to Omaha, which is just a great food city. Two hour north and west puts you squarely in beef country. So I asked the hotel for a burger recommendation... the guy almost drooled when he recommended this place. So, a 50/50 is a must. Not many places do a burger this way. It came out on a ciabatta bun and with blue cheese per my request. It was almost ridiculously good. Cooked perfectly. Tender. Seasoned and salty. And perfect with the sweet potato fries I ordered. I also had a specialty tap beer... Matilda from Goose Island. It is a high alcohol beer and it was under $5. And... try to find a beer like this elsewhere in town. This place does it right. Prime rib sammich, and fries with the extended family. It was a tad thin, a tad dry, but overall very well done. Biting into the sandwich it had a small amount of "pull" to it. If it were a little thicker, it would've been done perfect. Grilled ciabatta bread was so buttery and awesome! The steak Gorgonzola was awesome too, smoky, cheesy, very well done. The chili was fantastic. I only got tastes of them, but from what I tasted, it was very good. Our food was amazing but our waitress on the other hand was not. We waited an hour to be seated which was fine with us- we didn't have reservations-but when seated, we weren't even greeted by our waitress. She set down our menus and left for 30 more minutes. No water or drinks or appetizers were placed. We had to go to the bar to even get a drink. After we placed our orders, we weren't checked on for waters or drinks during the wait time. We were a party of four snd had three of the four waters empty awaiting refills. This used to be our favorite spot but Lisa really disappointed us during our date night out. We were totally fine with waiting an hour to be seated as it was busy at first when we arrived but slowed down to half capacity when we were sat. This place is a new, casual American place with a surprisingly expansive menu, as well as a full service bar. And when I say casual, I mean casual. I went to lunch here with some coworkers and I can say Franklin's attracts diners both young and old, but mostly of the more seasoned variety. I had a sandwich called Dustin's 50-50, a 1/2 pound burger that has a patty half beef and half bacon. It's not bad, although I can say it seems to be about 80% beef and 20% bacon. It was a bit salty too, probably from the bacon. But it was pretty tasty and comes on a sourdough-type bun which tastes better than your standard burger bun. Fries were good but nothing special. The waitress was attentive and refilled drinks regularly; the kitchen was a tad slow that I would attribute to adjustment pains from having just opened recently. Overall, Franklin's is a nice edition to the Norfolk dining scene. read more

Great Food, Service and atmosphere! We are in from out of town for an extended stay and found this gem of a restaurant in Norfolk. Based on a lot of other experiences in this town, this is by far the best. Kelli has taken great care of us a couple times for dinner and Jessie for lunch. The menu is a breath of fresh air with lots of great choices including some really good salads with homemade dressings. The filet was perfectly cooked on one visit and the Jambalaya had a good kick to it. We have thoroughly enjoyed our visits and plan at least a couple more before we leave. Firstly, this is a review from a seasoned hospitality staff & management background with extensive customer service experience in both Metropolitan Midwest and West Coast tourism centers. My standards are out of Norfolk, Nebraska's ballpark on every scale. Franklins Bistro has an excellent & expansive menu which does not compare to anyone else in town. The food is not only edible but also palatable! If you would like to know the difference, try the mixed vegetables as a side and you'll know they weren't removed from a can! I had not eaten a good burger in months; so, I'm sure I was going through some withdrawal symptoms -- but excellent none the less! Note: Preparation to desired temperature was successful, Medium/Medium-Rare is neither shoe leather nor bloody as with most/all other local restaurants. I did not attempt Dustin's 50-50; however, in response to a previous *salty* comment -- let's use common sense on that judgement! This is the one restaurant within city limits I would trust to prepare seafood. The Asian Salmon is absolutely delightful, the only mark they missed on the dish is the political correctness of the name -- which I may be the only person in town to notice. Service is prompt, pleasant, and not overbearing. Tip your servers & don't refer your non tipping "friends" to this establishment. There is a touch of class within Franklins Bistro's dining room with very reasonably priced dishes. Finally, you have to love them for having Stella on tap. As part of my job I occasionally review restaurants. Today we ate at four highly recommended restaurants in Norfolk. Franklin's Bistro was the best of the four. Nice atmosphere, great service and very good food. I highly recommend the avocado egg rolls. The club sandwich was also good. My only complaint was that they maybe serve too many fries! About half of what they give you would be plenty and then the plate would look a little less overwhelming. Very good food!!! But very SLOW service!!! Had to wait over an hour to finally see any food. I finally called the desk at the front (using my YELP app -- how handy :) ), and asked if I could order out a pizza. She told me no, they did not have pizza on the menu. So I asked if I could get anything at all! When she asked who I was I said I'm the guy at the table in the middle of their restaurant starving with six of my compatriots!!
