What a great visit to Big Red's while we stopped over in Norfolk! Very lively sports bar with personal televisions in each booth! We weren't there for sports, we were there for lunch; however, we definitely took notice that it would indeed be the place to go for sports. A group of five of us, seated at a table and the only reason I'm docking a star is because we were seated just a few feet away from the Keno ball machine and it was quite unpleasant when it was running, which was during most of our visit. Excellent burgers, pork tenderloin sandwich, hand breaded chicken strips, fries & tater tots! Not a morsel left on anyone's plate! Our service was wonderful and attentive, we were checked in several times and beverages refilled often. We will definitely be back when we return to Norfolk! read more

I was still eating my burger and had to pull my wallet out randomly to pay for my food, I thought about ordering another drink with my friends but felt almost forced to leave. Pretty sure they put my friends bacon and mac and cheese in the fridge before serving it. read more

I was visiting from out of town and stopped in for lunch. Pretty standard sports bar for Nebraska. I had a chicken wrap, buffalo style. I didn't taste any buffalo sauce and quite frankly overall the chicken just tasted a little weird to me. I also had some very over cooked tots. I would never choose to eat here, the folks I was with did. I hope I don't have to come back. The prices were reasonable, the service was mediocre and everything on the table was sticky. read more

The only reason this is a one star is because I observed a waiter W***T, set a plate of burgers and tots down on the back bar. A couple tots fell off onto the counter and he picked them up with his bare hands and put them back on the plate. He then let the plate sit there for a full 5 minutes while he made a bowl of ice cream, which he scooped out without gloves. Cringeworthy! read more

To anyone reading this, your moneys great elsewhere. NewYears eve I decided to stop by for some food and a beer. My co worker and I walk in and are met with 2 upset waitresses who acted more like teenagers than women. We ordered beers and where ID'd, After waiting about 15 minutes we got denied service because the manager (not on duty manager who was apparently "called") said my Texas driver's license was fake without even seeing it. I tried to reason with the rude waitress and before I could even inform her, she ordered us out or would "call the cops" Side note to management: It's a poor business model to hire sad waitresses like these people. I will send a copy of the Texas DMV ID requirements to you managers so next time this happens to someone from Texas, hopefully the employees, bar tender or even assistant manager you train will have knowledge about at least one other ID than y'all's own state. I've been here a few times since they opened a few years back. Their food is really nothing special, very average to below average bar food. The beer was good so i kept coming for the beer. Customer service is below average. The last time i was there i was kept waiting almost 20 minutes at the bar while the employees chatted 15 feet away. Finally i was carded and told they couldn't serve me because my license was expired. Not a really big deal but they could have told me that 20 minutes earlier. Norfolk has had several places open up recently. I don't see the need to come back here. Overall experience here is 25/100. The poor customer service + bad greasy bar food just does not merit ever going back. read more

Waitress barely came to the table and seemed agitated that we asked for our bill to pay for the sub par meal. My salad was 7 pieces of salty lettuce on a plate with cheese. Also, some old pervert stared at my 13 year old the entire time so that was neat. read more

The Rules: Apparently if you're under 30 you have to wear a tacky wristband to drink, like WTF is that sh*t? Am I in a nightclub rave or a restaurant? And why 30? Like if I'm 30 years old am I all of a sudden a high class snob who can do no wrong? The Food: The food was definitely items that you buy at Costco (or at wholesale), but that's not so much the problem,because a lot of places do this and put their own spin on things.... Not this place, straight up open the bag of "whatever-you-just-ordered" and cook it up. Let's not any seasoning, because the people who eat here have no taste buds anyways. Let's not put any effort in so that people will say on our commercials, "I eat at Big Red's because their food reminds me of eating hospital food." And then once you realize what you're eating, the prices are insane. The Staff: I must have been early for "rush". There had to be 10 people on the wait staff loafing about with their hands in their pockets, with nothing to do. There were about 5 customers in the place. So instead of working on something (like a non-bland recipe), they were goofing off. One of them used foul language in my presence (yea it's a sports bar, I get it.), then they starting gossiping about a customer, then they started trash talking another employee on the other side of the room. Like what is this, High School? The conversations they had with each other were so stupid, like how Tina got bubble gum in her hair or something... Seriously, most of the wait staff will be there their entire lives trying to support their meth habit. The Atmosphere: When I read the reviews on Yelp, I thought, oh cool, maybe a buffalo wild wingsy type place... WRONG. You walk through the door and you're instantly transported to your best friend's dad's basement... It isn't that bad, but the styling was like wow, people around here must not have basements or something. Everything is pretty much black and seriously no class or attempt at a theme, unless basement is the theme. You have the bar area and then the seating area looks more of a mosh pit. Bottom Line: The place has potential if they'd try, but pump the customers full of booze and they'll never notice right? Why try to show some class? Still a decent place with lots of beers, good service, plenty of space, and an adequate take on basic food. The wings here are quite good and are really 4-star wings... standard food executed well. It was taco night [Tuesday] for me, and enormous tacos came out on a funky low fat shell. The beef was seasoned OK... and the lettuce, cheese, and tomato were standard Ameri-Mex additions. They needed some extra pop, so I skipped the sour cream and salsa, and used a little leftover Ranch from the wings. Big Red Keno is an excellent choice if you are in the mood for a good sandwich or hamburger. Their menu is extensive and has reasonably priced appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and larger entrees. They feature daily specials and easily have the largest selection of beers on tap anywhere in Norfolk. It's refreshing to have so many good beer choices as opposed to the standard few domestics nearly all the other restaurants have. It's also nice to have a place to go for dinner and drinks that stays open later in the evening. I think it's ridiculous that most of the restaurants in Norfolk close at 9:00 or 10:00 p.m., even on the weekends. Be forewarned however, Big Red Keno is usually very busy regardless of the time of day. It's also very noisy with more of a "sports bar" atmosphere. If you are looking for a quiet, intimate dinner, this is not your place. If you are looking for a loud, fun place to entertain a large group of people, Big Red Keno is a good choice. Big Red Keno is also our favorite place to watch the game. We don't play keno but we frequent Big Red for the excellent food, good selection of beers on tap and great service. read more

Considering there really isn't that much to do, aside from visiting Johnny Carson's boyhood home, this sports bar/Keno lounge has a pretty decent menu. Something for everyone and large portions, if that's important. Staff is very attentive, plenty of bottled beers to select from and 8 on tap. Well drinks are very reasonably priced. TVs are mounted one after another all around the wide open bar. Lots of room to see, including a large screen projected on the back. Not the end all to be all, but a well rounded facility, served up right in a rural town. Worth a lookey-loo...especially if your team is being televised. read more

I took my son there tonight for a guys night out. First off we were seated right by the door. So every time the door opened we got cold. Then we sat there for about 20 minutes waiting for our waitress. She finally took our order after a table that was sat after us. That table got there food about 10 minutes before us. I watched our waitress flirt with a few guys and visit with her friends. When we finally got our order our food was cold. So we did not eat it. I've always wanted to try here, but 9 out of 10 times we drive by it is so packed that I don't even want to try walking in the door. To me that shows its good, but I'd rather not deal with that big of a crowd. We decided to give it a try on a Sunday after church. The parking lot looked pretty packed but when we walked in there was plenty of seating. The seating has more of an older look about it, but they were nice. Our waitress was nice and pleasant. Our drinks were brought to us right away and the food didn't take long at all. My husband ordered the anytime burger. It has a fried egg, hash browns, country gravy, bacon, and cheese. His face the whole time was rather entertaining, he absolutely loved it. He already wants to go back and get it again. We went two days ago. I tried a bit and it was amazing. Mine, however, I was less then impressed. I ordered the western chicken sandwich and it was a pretty big piece of chicken. It was grilled and very dry. The chicken itself didn't seem to have much seasoning on it. My sweet potato fries, however, were AMAZING! I could just go back and order a plate of those and be content. I also had a strawberry margarita that was alright. It was very tart for my liking. The drink menu was quite extensive, and if you want it they have it. The menu is also very extensive and you can order just about anything from sandwich's, wraps, burgers, salads, steaks and more. I was very impressed how at the bottom they had a list of all the things you could add to your sandwich. You could add mushrooms, cheese, bacon, an egg, and so much more. I was very impressed how big the list was. I know if my husband has a say we will be going back very soon, but I would like to give it another try and try one of their burgers. The prices were also very reasonable and you get plenty of food. There is also a T.V. at all the booths which was fun and it has a big sports bar feel about it, which it is. read more

The trouble with Big Red is that it's packed. The parking lot is huge and usually jammed full during regular dining hours. If we decide to go here, we go a little later (like around 8 pm) so we can avoid having to wait for a table, because it's usually a 10-15 minute wait on the weekends. Service has always been friendly, even during busy hours. Food is fair. Nothing has knocked my socks off, but nothing has been disappointing, either. I've personally had the chicken sandwich, Big Red wrap, and Memorial burger and the sampler appetizer. Big Red wrap was my favorite. Sandwiches usually come with a mound of fries. Appetizers were pretty good, even when I reheated them at home! They have a local coupon that gives you buy one get one half off but it's not valid on weekends. read more

Tough night for Big Red. Sat at the bar and listened to the Nic the bartender talk with the female wait staff about how wasted he gets an how much he had to pay for his DUI. Ordered a mushroom Swiss that came without mushrooms. Waited 10 minutes for the mushrooms and had to ask two times for a roll up. When we got into just the parking lot alone this place was packed and brimming with excitement, I could see the video games through the doors you could play if your wait in line is longer than expected. When we got inside the smells were intoxicating, they had a fairly long bar area there to the direct right, directly left was a gambling section for kino and I'm not sure what else they had going on over there but there was definitely more than just kino popping over there, I assume scratch tickets and lotto as well as some kind of bingo ball mixing contraption. Then directly in front of you there is this HUMONGOUS dining area, very fancy for a smaller crowd town as Norfolk can be. Every inch of wall seemed to be covered with a TV playing sports of various sorts, something I do not follow but this state loves their Husker and I can appreciate that much and that's what this place felt like, "Husker Spirit" all the way. My girlfriend and I split a nacho dish that was HUGE and we still had some to take home as leftovers. For as busy as this place was we were still able to get great service, good timing between visits with our waitress, a cute young girl still in high school I'm sure. We even got seated at a time Both with a personal TV in it, that was a very nice touch and why I say this is probably the best bang for your buck here around Norfolk and the crowd is awesome. I've read the previous reviews, some good, some bad. I will have to tell you my experience there war GREAT! To put it in context, my mom and I had been in Grand Island for 3 days for her brother's funeral, the week before Christmas. We had had some really crappy meals from chain restaurants and some local places. We knew places to eat were few and far between on the way back to KC from previous experience. And then just when we had give up hope, we saw Big Red. We both ordered the lunch specials. Mom got the chicken fried steak, I opted for the meatloaf. It was delicious! Just what my body craved. Mashed potatoes were obviously home made, the side of corn sweet and crunchy, and even the gravy was good. It was a huge portion too- 2 large slabs of meatloaf of which I managed to devour 3/4's of. If I could get their recipe I would be ecstatic. My advice: Skip the burgers and look at the specials. read more

Great place! The median price range per meal is roughly about $7.00, this is probably due to the very high electric bill they must have, I don't know about everybody else but I usually hang pictures on the walls, these people hang TV's, you could literally watch every sports team in the country and still a few left over to watch American Idol, This was especially appealing considering it is football season. The food was very good, just what you expect from a decent bar and grill, lots of finger food and a very clean environment, they do however have a supper section consisting of steak, pasta, ect. It feels fairly spacious inside. Good for both kids and adults. Very family friendly, they even have the toy and candy dispensers immediately when opening the door to the facility, obviously the owner does not have kids or he would put the machines at the back wall. I will say though, There's nothing more exciting than having a cheering section at the claw machine, shortly followed by nothing more defeating then loosing in front of a crowd of small children, and then being told "U suck". Now, Let's talk about the service, probably the best part of my trip to Big Red. I went on a date with an amazing girl............ but! I must say my attention was stolen by a waiter named Nic, with a C....and no K, we later came to the conclusion that he could not afford to put another letter on his nametag due to printing costs. This guy was very prompt with his service and when he brought me my chicken sandwich (which was breaded and deep fat fried to perfection) he said, "is there anything else I can help with?" after a short review of my plate I said, "Nic....can I have some mayonnaise?" Nic stopped, puffed out his chest, I felt the power and the intensity growing as I peered into his eyes, the world felt as if it had stopped spinning for a moment, he then gave me a shrug, and a crooked smile and said in the most nonchalant, yet presumptuous way. "I can do that" ...Chills went down my spine; I do not think there was anything on this earth that could have stopped this man from bringing me back that mayonnaise. ....to this day I wake up in the middle of the night, heart racing and sweat dripping from my forehead, when I dream of the Waiter Nic and his dedication to service.....Needless to say Nic got a tip that day, he was able to afford that K at the end of his nametag, and I left more than satisfied, and with a pretty girl ....I give the Big Red 3 stars, and I dedicate the last one too Nic, the waiter. read more

Should have known when asking the bartender/waiter what burger are you known for and replies - none, I should have ordered something else. Needless to say I had to grab him after sitting there for 10 minutes to take my order. My pre-patty burnt hockey puck for a cheeseburger fit about 2/3 of my bun. It looked terrible. McDonalds has a better tasting burger. Never once did this guy who took my order ask how it was. I left my half ate food on plate I pushed forward and he grabbed it. Sat there for another ten minutes and had to ask for bill. Also appreciate him swearing to his friends that work in kitchen in front me. Not once was I asked how food was, not once was I thanked for spending my money at this place. I was so pissed with service and food that I didn't say anything to anyone cuz I wanted to get out of this place. Brings me back to 1978 with the vinyl swivel chairs and the open seating. Other than that the food was average.
