As guests, we felt very special, because we sensed that the hosts wanted to make our stay there a most pleasant and memorable experience. When our two-night stay was over, we wished that we could have spent our whole week's vacation at this most beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming place. We have already made a reservation to stay at Windwater again next year to enjoy Rafael and Patty's friendly hospitality, special breakfasts, and to kick back and enjoy the view and the many local interest books and brochures, and all the amenities in the kitchen, like the Chefman electric kettle for heating water for our hot chocolate at night. During our two-day visit this year, we found that the city of Astoria had so many places of interest, that we want to return next year to continue to explore this historical city.

Since…read morewe live in Portland, about 2 hours away from Astoria, it is a quick getaway for us and we plan on making the trip as often as we can. Pam and David are the sweetest and most hospitable hosts, and their B&B truly feels like a cozy home. They collect really fun items, and each room has its own character and its own unique homey decor. The location of the inn is close enough to walk anywhere you would want to go out for dinner, drinks, or shopping. The best part of the inn (besides Pam's breakfasts - which always include the BEST fruit bowls) is most definitely their 13 year old chihuahua, Penny. She often makes an appearance after breakfast and steals the heart of everyone she meets. If you aren't able to use a tub with a shower handle (like the kind popular in Europe) to bathe, then I would suggest getting one of their rooms with a shower/tub combination. I loved having a clawfoot tub to soak in (we stayed in the Rose Room this time) each night while I read and drank a cup of tea. There is usually hot water and teabags or instant coffee available at all hours (freshly brewed coffee is available starting at 7am) on the stairway landing and I took full advantage of that amenity!

Judith has been at the bed and breakfast biz for a very long time and she knows how to do it! She works hard to make guests feel welcomed and happy. Located in the hills of quaint Astoria, this place oozes with old-fashioned charm -- making it irresistible for a romantic heart like mine. We have stayed in the French Violet room twice (our favorite) and in the schoolhouse building once. Both were great and we had a wonderful stay. I love that there aren't tv's in the rooms -- you don't come to a B&B to watch TV! I love the well-curated furnishings and the way Judith has accommodated my food requests every time. She is an amazing host. She is honest and direct, but also warm and welcoming. The best traits, in my opinion. Clementine's is our place...and we hope Judith is here for many more years. It is very accessible from Portland and the drive there is beautiful, and when you arrive at your destination you immediately feel at peace. Brian and Linda do a great job of making you feel welcome. We brought our own snacks and had a picnic in the gazebo and enjoyed the view of the river, which is so wide at that point that it almost gives the visual of being at the ocean as ships rolled by. We stayed in the Hummingbird Room which has a very comfortable bed and a wonderful view out of the window. The rates are very affordable and include breakfast - Brian is a great cook and they offer several meal options. We added the firewood package and were so glad we did, as I type this I wish I could be back there next to the fire while looking at the river. We were easily able to find street parking each time and were just blocks away from some really good recommended restaurants, breweries and shops. I was very impressed by the amazing breakfast that Theresa, the innkeeper and owner, cooked and served each morning. The interaction with other guests over breakfast was one of my favorite parts. I want people to know that they shouldn't book a stay with you until they check out the area because they will not get their money back if they don't feel safe.

This is what you get when you visit Grandview B & B. Funky, old, and in those two things - charm. Sharlene is someone who has lived a nice long life and probably has many stories to tell. She is usually the woman who greets you when you arrive. Be patient, as it takes her a bit to get to the front door. Also, if you come down to the lobby area after you have checked in and try to talk to Sharlene, make sure she can see who you are. I watched a few times as guests came down the stairs to call out to her about a question and she can't move her neck as easily to know who she is talking to. :) Be kind and patient with this wonderful lady. We stayed in the Treetops Room which has a balcony where you can look out over the river and see the old Flavel home. And you can even spy the Goonies house in the far off distance. Breakfast is served at 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30 and you get to choose which one works best for you. Bagels, smoked salmon and chocolate muffins! YUM! The sweet chef was wonderfully sweet and we felt very special eating in the closed off room. If you want 1000 thread count sheets or modern amenities, this is not where you will find them. The manager, Jasmine was also very kind and attentive. Milk and cookies at 7pm was such a nice little touch to seal the deal. Attention to detail at this place was impeccable. They've put so much thought into something as trivial as how they robes smelled! The hotel itself has a very cool and industrial architecture but without the coldness! They have incorporated huge water marble art and very minimalistic marine-animal art which was a great juxtaposition. We were only here for one night, but this was easily one of those hotels where the hotel itself becomes part of the trip.
