This park is more than meets the eye. The front part, where you first enter, isn't much to see. I…read moremean, it's beautiful -- there's lots of grass and open fields, a lovely amphitheater, lots of flowers and benches under shady trees -- but kids don't care about that. Kids want playgrounds, and fortunately, University Park indeed has a playground. And the playground is pretty awesome. You need to drive a little through the park to get to it, but once you do, you'll see giant play structures with lots of slides, bridges, fireman poles, monkey bars, swings, rock walls and lots more. The playground area has wood chips on the ground for a soft landing. There's an indoor restroom right next to the playground too, and a water fountain. Just beyond the playground, you'll see signs pointing out different hiking paths. We walked into the woods and came across all kinds of beautiful nature, as well as bridges. This is a great place to take an easy walk or hike with kids. For the doggies, there's a little dog park here (Four Paws Dog Park), with some agility equipment and lots of room to run. The whole dog park is securely fenced and gated. University Park is another great park in Greenwood!

This park is located at the entrance of a major subdivision. It is huge. It is said to be 40 acres…read moreand has two sections. The front section consists of one of the most beautiful lakes in Indianapolis, a large field area with a few benches, an amphitheater, and a dog park (for members only). The back part has a basketball court and a huge playground area. It is also the backside of the dog park, but that area is not accessible from there. The final amenity back there is a pavilion that is available to rent. The lake has a beautiful teal color and has large concrete slabs that you can sit on and enjoy its beauty. The front section of the park where the flags are is known as reflection plaza. It has some benches that you can sit and is meant as a place where you can sit and reflect. The dog park called Four Paws, looks nice but you need to have a membership to use it. The Chandler Amphitheater is very small and not covered, meaning it is wide open to the elements. It has stone stadium seating and has the lake as its backdrop. Reflection Plaza, including the amphitheater is available to rent. In the back, the basketball court is decent. The court could use a fresh coat of paint or some resurfacing, but the rims have nets and it is better than most backyard courts. The playground, which has a forest theme, is awesome. It is one of the biggest jungle gyms I have seen. It is very impressive. There are also swings and a seasonal bathroom facility back there as well. Both sections have adequate parking and they both are interconnected with 2 trails, the Benjamin Trail and the May Apple Trail. The trails are well paved and are in good shape. They can be used for hiking, jogging or walking. I really liked this park and enjoyed my visit. It has tons to do and even giving its location I still found it very peaceful and soothing. The development, Homecoming at University Park, is very lucky to have it. I will definitely be back soon.

There are so many different activities and play features for kids to choose from. I was especially impressed by the sensory-friendly and inclusive features throughout the park. They have a communication board as well as a large basket/nest swing that provides more space and support than a traditional playground swing. I really appreciate parks that think about children with different sensory, communication, and mobility needs while still creating a space that's fun for everyone. Thompson Park definitely did that. Such a great park for families, and we'll definitely be back!

There are slides, swings, climbing areas, and plenty of fun options for kids of different ages. Right next to the playground is a shelter area that we rented for my son's graduation party. The rental was around $150 for the day, and we booked it easily through the Indy Parks website. One thing to note is that some people may not realize the shelter is reserved, so we had a few people try to use it during our event. We printed out our reservation confirmation to have proof that it was paid for and reserved. The shelter has four large picnic tables and a grill, which worked well for our gathering. The biggest downside is that there is no electricity and no restroom nearby, which was disappointing considering the rental price. Having those amenities would make the space much more convenient for larger events. The park also has a remodeled basketball court and a trail area for walking or enjoying the outdoors. There is a smaller parking lot, and during busy times some visitors park along the grass. This was a decent venue for my son's grad party. I just wish the shelter included electricity and closer restroom access for the price.

Martin Luther King Memorial Park - Visitor Center

They expanded the outdoor exhibits, including the Landmark for Peace Memorial, an art piece depicting Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy with outstretched arms. They also added lights to the basketball court area and new walking paths, and reopened the Visitor Center, although it was closed when I visited. The playground at MLK Park is still relatively new, even though it wasn't a part of the remodel. It has fun things for all ages, like musical instruments, swings, a huge netted climber, a merry-go-round, and a small playground structure for little kids. The ground is that rubber padding that cushions falls. If you like murals, then come on over to this park, because it got it some murals. There's a mural of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy (of course), but also a mural depicting the "Masters of Disaster," a student chess team from IPS 27 that became national champions in the 1980s. How cool to be good at chess, and also get your mug on a wall in a park!

The sculpture sits on the ground where Kennedy delivered a moving speech on April 4, 1968, after the assignation of MLK. A nearby historical marker describes the importance of the speech. Many visionaries contributed to the Park and Memorial conception, including the Simons Brothers, The Pacers, politicians and artists. The sculpture was designed by Indiana artist, Greg Perry and cast by Daniel Edwards. I find the sculpture exceptional and moving. A modern Memorial Center is under construction just north of the Statue. The Center will house Park staff and exhibits about MLK and civil rights. An MLK quote is inscribed on the Center wall "Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that," Several contractors were working during my visit and the Center is behind closed fences during construction. It is hard to say when the Center will open, but I would guess Spring of 2026. A modern and colorful playground is also on the park grounds with climbing structures, swings and more. The made of the playground is soft matting material to improve safety. A swimming pool and basketball courts are also contained on the park grounds. Lots of green space is maintained on the park grounds. Landscaping efforts are in progress between the statue and Center with new walkways and signage. There is free street parking surrounding the park. Park use is free (not sure about pool use though). Several interesting murals of MLK surround the park. I look forward to visiting with my granddaughters when the Center opens. This is a moving Memorial and fabulous resource for the city.

When I walked in, I was greeted right away. They have a scanner at the front entrance, which makes it easy to check in by using your membership barcode through the app. They were also running a studio class challenge, so I decided to try out some of the studio classes. I really enjoyed the Studio Flow classes I attended. The instructors were friendly, welcoming, and did a great job guiding the class. I didn't realize the room was heated at first, so that was definitely a surprise, but I stuck with it and ended up enjoying the experience. I'm looking forward to trying more of the classes they offer since there's a great variety, and the app makes it easy to view schedules and plan workouts. One thing I noticed was that several of the water bottle refill stations were out of service, which was disappointing. However, the amenities overall look newer, and they have plenty of equipment, space, and options available. I love that they offer extras like massage chairs, a cold plunge, sauna, and steam room. They have different membership tiers, and the highest tier includes access to all the amenities. I'm excited to continue using this location and making it part of my routine!

Very close to I-74 (but not by an exit, Thompson Road is an overpass) but the play area is further away than the basketball courts. It looks a bit like it's part of the nearby community, but it is run by Indy Parks and therefore open to the public. Lots to do for kids of all ages. The centerpiece is an enormous climbing structure, but it's surrounded by some play areas of different sizes and age groups, some spinning seats, a little merry-go-round, and swings. There's a little shelter to the west of the playground area and a couple of basketball courts even further west. The whole park is surrounded by a trail as well. The park is really clean and well maintained. It also is a Biba playground, which means it integrates with an app for an augmented reality experience. My kiddo is a bit too young for that, so I didn't experience it myself but saw the signs as we were leaving (which finally explained why every structure had a strange-looking eye on it) and was intrigued. I haven't seen that at any other parks before.

Because the name of the park has "wolf" in it, I kind of thought it would be a bit more bad in the good way (like Michael Jackson's Bad), but instead, it was just good in the bad way (like boring). Kids will love the playground, though. And that's the point of visiting this park. The playground has a big structure for the older kids, and a small structure for the younger kids. There are saucer swings, regular swings, a rope climber, slides, musical instruments, a merry-go-round and other fun things to play on. The whole playground is padded with wood chips. The playground looks like it is relatively modern (no metal equipment), but there isn't anything that stands out about this park. It has a run-of-the-mill playground, and it does its job. There are basketball courts a ways away. There's a big, grassy field to enjoy. One thing to note is that there is zero shade on the playground. That was fine when I visited, because it was an overcast day. But I imagine that this playground can be insufferable on a hot, sunny day. Another thing to note is that there are restrooms at Wolf Run Park, but on the day that I visited, they were closed for the season. So I guess if you visit this park during the fall and winter (and maybe even early spring), the restrooms will be closed.

The park has shelters and multiple walking trails, which gives you options depending on how far you want to go. I noticed people taking family pictures at this park. One of the highlights was the water along the trail which adds a really pretty, calming touch to the scenery. The weather was decent temperature but a bit gloomy the day we went, and there were a lot of leaves on the trail. We didn't check the map and just kind of winged it, so parts of the trail were hard to follow because the leaves covered the path, but it wasn't an issue. Overall, we enjoyed the walk, the quiet surroundings, and the chance to bond while taking in what nature has to offer.
