Broad ripple park has been undergoing a lot of construction recently so they could create this new family center. It's finally done and it's beautiful! They had a grand opening for the neighborhood on 1/21. The multi use facility has many great features including an open gym for basketball, volleyball etc, a slide play area for children, group fitness class rooms and an indoor track. The pool pert if the park was very sad but the restrooms were cleaner than any other pool.

Even though they tried to open it for only the Fourth of July without any fanfare, umbrellas or snack bar it still was a hit! This very historical pool is still gorgeous and the fact they want to tear it down is unsettling. I have just never heard of putting a lazy river in front of a real river, but that's just me. Every time I go here I see somebody I know and it is such a great neighborhood area. It definitely is the best pool in town. The bathrooms need work as well as the concrete area but there's plenty of handicap parking and there is a dog park there as well. There's a nice walk along the river and many many playground activities available. They even have a soccer or rugby area as well as a tennis court. This truly is a jam in the city with White River and all its glory. read more

I have mixed feelings about this park. It is a 62 acre park, with 10 of it being woods. The park was originally a farm that dates back to 1882. It was then converted to an amusement park, the White City Amusement Park, in 1906. The park was opened in 1922 and still maintained some of the amusement park rides. The park has an outdoor pool that is in need of some intensive TLC. It is very raggedy. There are two picnic shelters, one of which is huge. They both have picnic tables under them and grills just outside of them. They have 2 sets of 3 tennis courts complete with benches and are awesome. They are well maintained and one of the park's better amenities. The baseball and multi-use field, not so much. The baseball field has an old backstop and the grounds need some maintenance and landscaping. The field had one goal that was not set up out there. The field was hard and had a lot of divots, aka ankle breakers. There is a nice dog park at the front of the park. It was packed with large dogs. There is a lot of obstacles and grass for the dogs and a shaded place for their owners to sit while the dogs run around. The park is located just off of the White River and has a public boat ramp to launch your watercraft. The ramp is very long and steep. There is also a nice wood viewing platform that overlooks the River. The park has a playground area is lined with wood chips and has 2 jungle gyms with slides and monkey bars. One of the jungle gyms is accesible. There is a set of traditional swings and a set of ADA/toddler swings. The equipment is old and the playground area is far from exciting. There are benches around the playground area to sit and watch the kiddos. There is an area called the Picnic Knoll that is located right outside of the playground area. It is where you will find a bunch of picnic tables placed in the forest. The final amenities I will discuss is the parks neglected walking/jogging/running/bicycling and fitness path. Many of the fitness path signs are damaged and/or unreadable. The trail is mostly a dirt path and dog walking is welcomed. The park has a decent sized parking lot, but a lot of it is being taking up by construction material and equipment. I believe they are currently building a new family center. That is a step in the right direction, because much of this park seems neglected. I was unsure if, outside of the dog park, if it was being maintained. This is a decent conventional nature park, that with a few upgrades and some TLC, could really be awesome. I am an older resident of Broad Ripple. I love this park and, in particular, the Broad Ripple pool. Yes, the pool needs a facelift. However, I hope the city never takes it away. We have too many floating river facilities in the Indianapolis and surrounding areas. That activity really isn't exercise. People, of all ages, need to swim. As senior citizens, we appreciate a place that we can do laps in the pool and not have to pay $1500 to do so. Please do not turn this park into another amusement center. Thanks! read more

Indy has some great parks! This is one of my faves! -The gravel walking/running trail is rarely crowded, and along it there are fitness stations with exercises reminiscent of the Presidential physical fitness Ed we used to have to complete in grade school (pull ups, sit ups, balance beam, etc). -There are benches and a gazebo overlooking the White River with ample space to spread out. -The playground is amazing with accessible equipment for different needs and ability levels. -Park benches with backs overlook the playground for tired (or breastfeeding!) parents. -In addition to the dog park onsite, there is a huge open field for dog romping or a pick-up game of soccer. -Restrooms are available at the family center near the entrance to the park. -There is an abundance of parking onsite! read more

Yup, it's a great park. There's something for everyone here, including your four-legged friends, as there is a huge, fenced dog park near the entrance off of Broad Ripple Avenue. We mainly spent time in the playground area this time. The playground includes many fun slides, swings (regular swings and seat swings), monkey bars, towers to climb and bridges to run across. There are lots of benches around the playground, and several huge, old trees that provided shade. One bummer about this park is that they close the restrooms during the off season (so around October through March). I didn't see any alternative restrooms, either, like portable toilets, so just be aware of this fact when you visit! read more

I've long had a love/hate relationship with Broad Ripple Park, a 61-acre park on the Northeastside of Indianapolis in, you guessed it, the Broad Ripple neighborhood. If you've been in Indianapolis for any length of time, you've likely at least heard of Broad Ripple Park even if it's not quite in your neighborhood. I have an affection for the park because it's the place where I was baptized many years ago, though even then I couldn't help but notice certain legitimate concerns around accessibility. Broad Ripple Park offers many amenities including a family center that offers a wide variety of classes throughout the year, an outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts, children's playgrounds, multi-use athletic fields, a baseball diamond, shelters that are available for rent, a viewing platform over the adjoining White River area, a bark park, a wooded preserve, a biking/running/jogging/walking path, and a boat ramp to the White River. The Family Center is housed in what used to be Broad Ripple Library, a place I often frequented, though I've never actually been in the Family Center. There's also a police substation on the grounds of the park and it would appear someone is in there much of the time. Broad Ripple Park has a pretty cool history including being an amusement park in the 1920's - this amusement park had the carousel that is now at the Children's Museum. The park, believe it or not, was also the scene of the Olympic swimming tryouts in both 1924 and 1952. Pretty cool, eh? As is probably expected, Broad Ripple Park hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year ranging from concerts to carnivals to tons of non-profit fests and parties. If I love the park so much, why the modest score? Quite simply, accessibility. Despite being one of Indy's premiere neighborhood parks, Broad Ripple Park is woefully lacking in terms of wheelchair access. Oh sure, it offers a handful of accessible parking spots. It offers a semi-decent curb cut along the main grounds. The "basics" are there to meet ADA requirements (barely). But, the truth is that wheeling around Broad Ripple Park as a disabled adult who is often alone is incredibly difficult. The "paths" tend to be mostly dirt and/or gravel paths and are difficult to maneuver in a wheelchair. While I'm someone who has traveled long distances in a wheelchair, even I struggle at times with Broad Ripple Park's gravel paths, dirt, uneven trails, and the inclines/declines that exist throughout the park. For a park to be truly accessible, a person with a disability should be able to access all, or at least the vast majority, of the park. That's simply not the case at Broad Ripple Park. While the Family Center, being a former library, is likely the most accessible area of the park, outside of this particular area the park tends to be an exhausting experience. I've never tried to use the pool. I've noted that the Bark Park is mostly a grassy area and would be difficult for a dog owner in a wheelchair. Overall, despite being close to my home this is a park I tend to avoid as utilizing the park tends to wear me out and leave me rather dirty from wheeling along the gravel. A good park, Broad Ripple Park has amazing potential but lacks the basic accessibility features necessary that would allow me to recommend it. The simple truth is that Carmel, Indiana has far greater access in its parks and should serve as a role model for how to make Indy's parks, and in this case Broad Ripple Park, truly accessible to all. read more

I have driven by the Broad Ripple Park so many times, and finally made a stop there the other day - I loved it! It was so much better than I thought it would be. This park offers something for everyone to enjoy! I went to the dog park to see if it would be a good place to bring my dog, and I was very pleased with the size, layout, and what it offered. I can't wait to bring my dog here. There were also some trails, a playset, a very open field, and plenty of parking! The park is used for a lot of events and festivals as well - it has a great setup and a great location. I can't wait to go back to the park with my dog and go on the different trails! read more

Beautiful and large park right in Broad Ripple! This is the closest dog park to us and we love it. You can purchase a yearly pass or day pass for it at the park office (closed on Sundays). A lot of events happen here too, including Zumba, Three Dog Indy's Easter Egg hunt, and much more. I'm not sure their plans for renovation but it could definitely use some grass/turf for the dog park as it's pretty run down. When we don't take our dog to the dog park, there's still a lot of acreage in the back of the park that my dog enjoys as well. read more

Location! Location! Location! If you like walking through a wooded space along a river, this place is for you! This 62 acre mature park has a lot of options for visitors of all ages. A family center, swimming pool and spray park, a dog park (requires a pass from the family center showing your dog has its shots and fees are associated), large playground, shelters (can be rented, but otherwise are first come/first served), and sports fields are here with plenty of space between them. So i have lived in BRIP most of my adult life and for the life of me i have forgotten how nice the park is. I used to come to the library here while in High School and then would run cross country meets through the back of the park and totally forgot how nice it is. Over the years i tended to only see the dog park and pool as the entire park but there is also acres and acres of land in the back for walking and relaxing. This is the land that is generally used for big events that happen here. Tons of parking, public restrooms, lots of walking, area for picnics and family get togethers. I'll admit that I'm not much a "go to the pool kind of gal". Oh, what? You didn't know there is an actual classification for those who go to the pool and those who do not? Well, I grew up out in the sticks where a pond and a t-shirt sufficed. The 90 degree temps and day off were just the extra push I needed to pay a visit to Broad Ripple Park. The bath house was a little on the outdated side, but it served its purpose. I was very pleased with the size of the pool, attentiveness of the lifeguards and lawn chairs in both the shade and sun. I'm awful at laying out, so I spent the whole time in the pool. Something about sitting still in my own pool of sweat doesn't do it for me. I suppose I prefer a pool of kid's pee. The Zumba sign by the road has been calling my name for quite some time. I'll definitely be back for the pool, but next time I might even add in the Zumba. How wild of me. read more

LOVE the Broad Ripple Park. When we moved to Indianapolis, we got lucky enough to snag a rental house close by and it has been such a huge part of our routine ever since. Although I've never taken advantage of the pool, it's always crowded but not TOO crowded and prices are fair. They've got free zumba classes always advertised and also have yoga and spin classes. There are also tons of free festivals and concerts during the summer, and other events such as the Halloween dog egg hunt which was a blast. The trail that goes along the river is almost like a hidden gem and you feel like you're at Eagle Creek or another secluded park rather than just a quarter mile away from the Broad Ripple Strip. Really though, the creme de la creme is the Bark Park. We are there every day that weather allows. In general there are plenty of dogs there but not too many, dogs are well-behaved, and the humans are super friendly. I can't wait to see what the prize money from Beneful along with fundraising money transforms the park into! read more

A good little park, I am glad I live close. I have been to a few picnics here, and I find that there is always enough parking. Now on to the dog park. I bring my pooch here several times a week, and there are always other dogs ready to play unless the weather is rainy. You need to purchase a pass (daily is $5, annual is $75 or $55 after July 1) to gain access, and don't plan on entering behind someone else because we are a little too protective of our dogs to chance someone bringing an unvaccinated dog in without a pass. There is plenty of room for your dog to run around, and ample seating for owners. It's also a pretty great place to socialize with other owners! read more

This park outdoors has a lot to offer, but did you know about their classes?? And not JUST Zumba... they have a TON of classes to offer to all ages! And at a very reasonable price!! We are attending a ballet class and the teacher is very kind and great with younger kids and does her best to encourage participation by those who are unsure or shy and to encourage good behavior (slight discipline) and able to keep teaching even if kids are crying or screaming and being unruly... (we are in a young young kid class, and see it all...). But much dibs to her, she deals with it all and so well! And has great activities to learn ballet and have a lot of fun! Only thing I could see for improvement thus far is not to stack classes directly back to back, but to allow about a 5minute break in-between so to allow for 1. transition without missing class time and 2. ability to chat to the teacher without interrupting the next class. read more

My wife and I love coming here with our dog, Laken. There is a real nice dog park at the entrance of the park and everyone is very friendly. Of course Laken loves it here too. The park itself seems a little on the rundown side due to a lack of TLC but it sits in a beautiful spot along the White River, so it's easy to overlook some of the places that need some care. I would have given 5 stars if they guy at the front desk of the Family Center actually had some personality. I have never seen him smile or greet anyone in a friendly manner. We have only bought a few day-passes for the dog park, and I dread having to deal with him to get the pass. read more

Decent park. I have been here to walk my English bully and for a community event. It's a nice park that offers shady areas as well as areas where you can see the water. Things to note: you cannot enter the dog park without first registering your dog (submitting proof of shots). While I totally appreciate that they protect the animals like this, I was a little annoyed because I didn't know there were regulations. I expected it to be similar to Eagle Creek Park (not)! Relatively speaking, this park has a lot to offer: a pool, a dog park, playground equipment, trails, shelters, and a center for classes. The location fits right into the Broad Ripple area, and the river provides a nice backdrop. In addition to the classes, there is no shortage of events held here such as the free summer concerts and the beer fest. With the amount of traffic this park gets and the location, it would be nice if they would throw a little money at it for upkeep and maybe to add on even more amenities. read more

Bordering on the White River, Broad Ripple Park has been a beloved community resource for over 50 years. While not enormous, this is a good-sized park given its location in Indianapolis proper, with a lot of nice features, including a dog park, a half-mile fitness trail, a playground, a swimming pool, an athletic field and picnic shelters available for rent. There are a lot of programs and activities at the park for all ages, so it's worth checking into if you're looking for something to do outside. I've had nice times here during all seasons, but my favorite time to come is really the fall. There are plenty of trees here, and it's beautiful to see the leaves change. Bring some hot dogs if you're so inclined, 'cause they have those little charcoal grills where you can cook food. This park is also home to Broad Ripple's recycling center, which is back behind the tennis courts. read more

This is a pretty decent park as a whole. The easiest parking is off of Broad Ripple Ave. / 62nd St. at Primrose Ave. That puts you close to the community center, dog park, pool, boat slip, and playground. There's a smaller lot in the northeast corner that puts you close to the athletic fields, tennis courts, and softball diamond. I visit the dog park 3 times a week or so, so I'll start there. The people are all pretty friendly, and, unless it just rained, it's pretty much a given that your mutt will have somebody to play with. There's no agility course or anything, but there are plenty of bags and garbage cans so owners can pick up after their pooches. Please follow suit. The areas away from the gate are grassy, while the highest traffic area is sand. It drains pretty quickly after a rain, so you can usually go the next day without fear of getting muddy. There's a water fountain for Barkley to get a drink, too. You'll need to bring water if the weather has been close to freezing, as they shut off the fountain for the winter. You and Fido will need a pass to get in, and many people get put off if you ask them to let you in. You can get an annual pass or a day pass at the community center desk (not the same building as the pool), and you'll need Fluffy's current vaccination records. They don't prorate the annual rate, but they drop it a few bucks in June or July. Currently, a daily pass is $5 and the annual pass is $75. For $125 you can get the VIP pass, which gives you access to all the IndyParks dog parks. http://www.indy.gov/eGov/City/DPR/Parks/Pages/BarkParks.aspx The park is open from dawn to dusk, and occasionally a police officer will drive through the lot and give you and Sparky a 5 minute warning if you're lingering too late. As for the rest of the park, it's pretty cool too. There's unpaved hiking trails. The few Pavilions can be rented out for parties and BBQs. There's a fitness circuit if you're feeling like getting more fit. Haven't tried it myself ;-) The tennis courts are in decent shape, and are usually pretty clear of leaves and dirt. They're not shaded, so take some water on hot days! There's a decent playground just north of the 62nd St. parking lot with swings, slides, and other good stuff for your little ones, or you, if you are worried you've forgotten how to swing. (It's a sad day if that's the case. Get out there and young it up!) The pool is fun and affordable. Be ready to tolerate some crying babies and peacocking teens--it IS a public pool. They recently added some playground-like stuff to the pool. I haven't visited since they added it, but it looks fun for your kiddos to cool off in. I think all the furniture is new from 2012 or 2013. The boat slip into the White River is east of the pool. When you enter off of 62nd, veer to the left. There's a 1 boat wide slip and a small wooden dock. Water skiers and wake skaters tend to frequent this section of the river when it's warm outside. You can go as far upstream as you like, but on the downstream side you'll only make it to the low head dam at 65th and Westfield, just past where the Canal branches off, before you have to turn around. This is a great spot for skiers to get a turn in. If you're into canoeing and kayaking, there's room for you too. The motorboaters are usually pretty courteous. Just point your bow into their wake as they go by and you'll be okay. Paddle upstream to see some cool birds and the cutest baby turtles sunning on downed trees and rocks. So, yeah, I like Broad Ripple Park. There's plenty of reasons to visit. Go for a nature walk, exercise, watery adventures, or to tire out your 2-legged and 4-legged dependents. Have fun! read more

I use to play at this park as a child. One of the best parks in Indianapolis for kids. Located on the Northside of Indianapolis, it offers a lot for kids and families. Especially during the summer time, when it's humid out and one needs to dive into the pool. Check it out, if you're visiting Indianapolis. Broad Ripple Park is a great place to enjoy the outdoors. The park has some great features that are free such as the tennis courts and boat ramp. The dog park and pool are available to the public at an additional cost. The pool is clean and well staffed yet gets busy on hot days. The dog park stays pretty busy year round but the members are usually friendly and good with supervising the dogs. Would be a 5-star park if the dog pass worked at other locations and the family center staff was a little more courteous. read more

We visited the park on two occasions. First time to play on the playground. Second visit was to use the pool. The pool is great. Clean and cool temperature. Lots of lifeguards to oversee the swimmers. We really enjoyed the pool. The restroom/changing areas are in desperate need of a little tlc. The fee to enter is very reasonable.
