I wish I could be arsed to find out why this park is called Wolf Run Park. I can't, though, so I guess it will forever remain a mystery. Because the name of the park has "wolf" in it, I kind of thought it would be a bit more bad in the good way (like Michael Jackson's Bad), but instead, it was just good in the bad way (like boring). Kids will love the playground, though. And that's the point of visiting this park. The playground has a big structure for the older kids, and a small structure for the younger kids. There are saucer swings, regular swings, a rope climber, slides, musical instruments, a merry-go-round and other fun things to play on. The whole playground is padded with wood chips. The playground looks like it is relatively modern (no metal equipment), but there isn't anything that stands out about this park. It has a run-of-the-mill playground, and it does its job. There are basketball courts a ways away. There's a big, grassy field to enjoy. One thing to note is that there is zero shade on the playground. That was fine when I visited, because it was an overcast day. But I imagine that this playground can be insufferable on a hot, sunny day. Another thing to note is that there are restrooms at Wolf Run Park, but on the day that I visited, they were closed for the season. So I guess if you visit this park during the fall and winter (and maybe even early spring), the restrooms will be closed. read more

My nieces love this park and it's become one we visit fairly often. The playground has equipment for a variety of ages to enjoy with swings, spinning spots, play houses, climbing materials and plenty of slides. The ground is a wood chip base, so sneakers are better than sandals and slides for shoes! There tends to be a lot of bugs, little tiny flys of some kind today, so something to be aware of. They did just add a bathroom recently, and I used it for the first time today. There was no toilet paper or soap. The toilet and sink water worked fine, and there was a changing table. One of two water fountains worked too. I'm hoping that all improves soon, but I'm still grateful they put in bathrooms here! It was a problem before. The trail is nicely paved and there's a little break to the left when you turn down the trail. If you follow it, you'll find a little spot to see the creek. Not really enough to play in, but we like to go take a minute to see it sometimes. read more

Wolf Run Park - Parks Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

This is a nice neighborhood park, spanning over 15 acres. It seems small, but is a lot bigger than it looks. It has an adequate private parking lot. There is also a covered shelter there with picnic tables that have seen better days under it. A grill is also nearby. You will find 2 half basketball courts that are well maintained and a large green field to play the sport or activity of your choice. The playground is awesome. It has very modern equipment. There is a very large jungle gym with slides and a smaller jungle gym for the little ones. There is also a cool seated merry go round, a bank of regular swings, a bank of expression swings, a pyramid shaped climbing net, saucer swings, some congos and some other little stuff. It is well maintained and ground is lined with wood chips. Most of the equipment is accessible so all kids are able to enjoy them. I learned what a Biba playground was today. This play area happens to be one of them. For those that do not know, a Biba playground is a 'smart playgrounds' through through the use of digital, imagination-driven games for both iOS and Android devices. I did not try it but it sounds awesome. The park is home to a nicely paved trail. The trail is circular and can also be connected to a larger trail that runs along the road the park is on (Thompson Road). This is a well maintained park. It does have a lot of traffic running around the park, so it is not very peaceful. It is also located right out front of a sub divison's entrance. it is still a decent park to visit read more

I love this little park! It has a fair amount of things to do for all age ranges and even has a beautiful separate walking path behind it. I'm a nanny to a toddler and I take her here constantly. She could spend hours on the tandem swing and slides! It's a really clean park and everyone who comes seems to be friendly so 10/10! read more

While on Indy's Southside to check out a new donut shop, I decided to check out the park scene and after a quick browsing of Yelp decided to check out Franklin Township's Wolf Run Park. Located in the 9900 block of East Thompson Road not too far away from Southeastway Park, Wolf Run Park is one of Indy Parks's newer parks having been established in 2017 as Franklin Township's 3rd park. Wolf Run Park is a relatively small park, though it's comfortably situated with a playground, basketball court, paved walking trails fairly close to flat, and a shelter area that appears to allow for grilling. The basketball court is set apart from the playground area, a decent way to separate age groups but a design that also really seems to set it awkwardly apart from anything else. The basketball court also lacks parking close to it, though the walk itself isn't bad and the paved trail goes directly to it. The park appears to be well cared for and I was actually surprised to learn it's three-years-old as it definitely appears new in terms of the parking lot, signage, and the cleanliness of the shelter and play area. The playground area seems to be divided among equipment for older kids and the younger kids. There's lots of stuff to climb on and the small group of gathered today while I was there seemed to be enjoying it. There's lots of green here, though relatively few trees and shade. There's two parking lots, both relatively small but well marked. There is accessible parking. In doing some research, I learned that Indy Parks intends for the greenspace to be a habitat for wildlife including blue herons, box turtles, and woodpeckers. I did see one mention of the park being ADA and I can definitely guarantee this is not an ADA park. While there's accessible parking, the playground is far from wheelchair friendly - the terrain is rather gravel-based and the path entryways all have a small-to-moderate lip on them that would be incredibly difficult for children or adults in wheelchairs. In fact, the lack of even basic accessibility is one reason I'm going with a 3-star here. While full ADA is not needed, there are easy ways this could have been made more friendly for all children and for a newer park it's ridiculous this wasn't done. However, the accessible parking is fine and the trail itself is disability friendly. It also appears the path leading to the shelter should easily be accessible. So, while I'd hesitate to recommend the park for children with disabilities for other children this is a comfortable, clean, and nicely equipped park that offers an alternative to the far bigger Southeastway and is a great option for a township that still doesn't really have a lot of park options. read more

Nice, clean park - a little on the small side but it's pretty secluded so it doesn't seem to get a whole lot of traffic. Very close to I-74 (but not by an exit, Thompson Road is an overpass) but the play area is further away than the basketball courts. It looks a bit like it's part of the nearby community, but it is run by Indy Parks and therefore open to the public. Lots to do for kids of all ages. The centerpiece is an enormous climbing structure, but it's surrounded by some play areas of different sizes and age groups, some spinning seats, a little merry-go-round, and swings. There's a little shelter to the west of the playground area and a couple of basketball courts even further west. The whole park is surrounded by a trail as well. The park is really clean and well maintained. It also is a Biba playground, which means it integrates with an app for an augmented reality experience. My kiddo is a bit too young for that, so I didn't experience it myself but saw the signs as we were leaving (which finally explained why every structure had a strange-looking eye on it) and was intrigued. We enjoyed ourselves quite a bit at Wolf Run Park! My husband and I really loved playing on all the sturdy equipment with our 3 year old daughter. I loved how very family friendly it was. The other families and kids were pleasant and I heard no inappropriate language or kids screaming. It was so nice. We loved the trail heading back to the woods with the bridge, too! So fun! We will definitely be back. read more

Wolf Run has the potential to be a really great park on the south east side. It is easy to find just off Thompson Road and has a paved parking lot near the shelter and playground. There is a paved walking path oval around the park and basketball courts on the west end, away from the playground. There is no parking/street access for the courts without hiking or biking, but it offers a distance which keeps older kids from the younger ones. The playground has two sets of equipment: one for bigger kids and smaller equipment for the tykes who might not be as safe on some of the bigger pieces. They are conveniently spaced for parents who need to watch both. There is a large lawn area for playing athletic games, but very few trees for shade. Maybe future plantings can be arranged to offer a break when the hot days of summer approach. Review #676 read more

Favorite park in the nearby area. It's got a good variety of things for both my 11 year old and 3 year old to play on. It is kept up pretty well too. Can sometimes get crowded but I don't mind it because I feel like my son has more fun making friends and playing with kids his age anyway. read more

Amazing park! I happened upon it last week during a drive down Thompson and i am so glad that I did. My family and I have been looking for local playgrounds outside of the one in our subdivision since our recent move to Indy and Wolf Run Park is the best we've found thus far. There are ample play structures that are suitable for all ages and stages of physical development. Semi/secluded but conveniently located so that it is noticeable from Thompson Rd. The tall, brightly colored, treehouse themed structures are what caught my eye. My kiddos and i have visited the park three times in past week and i am sure that i will become a regular spot for us this summer as it is only about 5 Minutes from our house. If i had to give a critique i would say that i wish the basketball court was a little closer to the playground and that there were a couple more picnic shelters and shaded areas. But the playground itself is so impressive that my family and I really don't mind. Will definitely keep returning. read more
