Must visit in Indianapolis!!! We were in town and looking for things to do, this place came up on our search. I wasn't expecting much at all but I was wrong. They have everything contemporary to modern, arts from all over the world. I felt like I was on a trip around world with a Time Machine. Minimum two hours but I think 3 hours will be good as this place is huge! If I live in the area, I would definitely invest in their membership and would visit often.

I was in town for a conference, and heard about Harvest Nights from locals! I ordered my ticket a few hours in advance and went solo and enjoyed a peaceful evening to myself. It was a full moon and the perfect way to close out September and welcome October. Parking was free and well-organized, with friendly staff directing everyone, which made arriving stress-free and easy. Once inside, I started with a pumpkin Elysian Fields beer to set the mood and began wandering through the botanical gardens, which were absolutely stunning. There were so many additional opportunities for fall bites and drinks throughout the whole experience - including a cocktail bar in the manor! Pumpkins were everywhere, and each display was more creative and beautiful than the last. The mushroom forest felt otherworldly and psychedelic, the train scare was a fun surprise that you could feel throughout your body. I loved the sensory experience and the light up sidewalks of spiderwebs. The highlight of the night, though, was Mischief Manor. The lighting, sound, and decorations made both the inside and outside feel like stepping into a storybook. Each room had its own atmosphere - spooky, whimsical, and artful all at once. Every corner of the grounds felt thoughtfully curated, offering the perfect blend of spooky and serene. Whether you are a couple, a family (not too scary for kids), or, like me, exploring solo, there is so much to enjoy: photo opportunities, history, art, and autumn beauty around every corner. I enjoyed reading about the history of the land and home and State of Indiana. The Newfields team truly outdid themselves with this event. If you love autumn, art, and immersive experiences, Harvest Nights is a must!!

This is a duplicate listing for the same museum; for many more reviews and photos please see Newfields: A place for nature and the arts. The address is the same and hopefully Yelp will merge the listings at some point. Anyway, I've written a bunch more under the other listing for this business and posted many pictures over the years. In short, this is a great museum with a combination of paintings, modern art and new ways of presenting art such as the immersive experience in the Lume. They do a nice job with seasonal events as well such as Winterlights around the holidays. A membership pays for itself fairly quickly for general museum admission and members do also get a small discount on tickets for special events. I love walking around the gardens throughout the year. Parking is free!

I've been going to the Newsfields Art Museum since 2021, 2022, and 2025. The first time I've gone to the Art Museum it was on July 1st, 2021 during the first Thursday of each month free. I thought it was a perfect time to go to the museum to explore the art galleries, wine bar, and even their beer garden. Now, during the Summer months I don't believe Newsfields have the free first Thursday of each month, however if they still do I highly recommend you go to explore. Newsfields Art Museum have a lot of art from every background, a lot of fun interactive things to do there with your kids, very family friendly, there are a lot of stairs there, however it's very accessible for everyone. Plenty, of parking, elevators, if lost ask the helpful staff working the information desk. Newsfields Art Museum host a lot of events in their facilities. On, October 15th I had the wonderful opportunity to experience Heartland Film Festival movie Train Dreams at the Tobias Theater, the Theater is very spacious, decent seats, and a large projector screen. All, in all I always enjoy myself when I go to Newsfields Art Museum, and I highly recommend you go if you haven't been before.

Newfields is an uncommon destination which offers some unique things to see and learn about. That said, parking is quite a challenge here, and the other amenities are also lacking :-( On a positive note, the Van Gogh exhibit does a decent job at stimulating the interest of younger audiences. That said, there's really only one of his original works involved here, and I personally didn't find anything here that grabbed my attention. Tip: The memberships are affordable and if you're a person that very much enjoys culture and/or art, you should probably consider getting one :-)

I've visited Newfields or aka Indianapolis Musuem of Art tons of times over the years. I enjoy exploring new and unique exhibitions. The museum is well curated. They offer lots of programming and a beautiful museum store.

Today we just stopped by for lunch and great views! It was so lovely that we decided to walk the gardens and check out the fountain! This place makes for a perfect place to take a stroll through the beautiful grounds!

I went to a members only talk last night about the 5 Dali Watercolors. It was interesting to learn about how the watercolors came to be for the opera that Alvary was putting on. Dali had a small part to play in this opera but ended up making a huge impact, which did not make Alvary happy. There are only 4 watercolors that have been seen and no one knows where the fifth watercolor is. The 4 watercolors were donated to Newfields by Alvary and his wife.

Newfields is top of list for me when I need to get out of the house but can't be outdoors. However, it is an all season destination with beautiful outdoor spaces within its campus. The art museum has a constant rotation of exhibits and rotate pieces within their collections. I've noticed an increase in interaction stations, which make a typically stodgy art museum more appealing to children and teens. There is an army of volunteers on site to help answer questions. The museum itself isn't huge but I still usually need to break up my visit with a stop in the cafe. The menu is small but the food is high quality and prepared well. I also usually like to end my visit with a stroll through the grounds. If it's open, I'll pop into Oldfields, a former Lilly family home, for a quick self-guided tour. In warmer seasons, the Garden Terrace is a nice stop for a beer and snack. The adjoining 100 Acres Park does not require a ticket and can be accessed for free any time. Outdoor art installations pepper the property and make it an engaging short walk on nice days. The gift shop is always stocked with beautiful things. Memberships are reasonable and with member discounts in the cafe, gift shop and other perks it's a worthwhile investment if you go two times a year.

Thank you!! Thank you!!! To our friends who finally got us to Lights at Newfields. Gorgeous, awe struck at love and labor that created this event. You can only truly benefit in person. Little pricey, so I'm hopeful there are options for people who can't afford????

Been to Newfields many times and all the recent Lume exhibits have been a wonderful experience . Today is the Salvador Dali and Art in Bloom exhibit. Both interesting and lots of other cool things to see throughout the museum.

Mischief Manor

Newfields does not disappoint me whatsoever. I came for Harvest Nights and I was very impressed with the decorations and the talking pumpkins. The ghost Train was very creative and unique. The mischief manor was my favorite with the illusions and the inside decorations for Halloween. The graphics and lights were incredible and did give the true meaning of Halloween. I have always been impressed with the art exhibits at Newfields. They feature an artist every few months and they go all out with their exhibitions. The gift shop is very nice and has unique items for purchase as well. I would imagine a membership to Newfields would be very worthwhile if you are into the art exhibits and attend events at Newfields on a regular basis. Newfields is an excellent venue for art and events, and the beer garden is also incredible with a good selection of craft beer and drinks. If you come to Newfields for an event, you will leave with a smile on your face.

I'm obsessed with our art museum-- incredible campus with a beautifully kept garden and an inviting mix of both timeless and contemporary exhibits and engaging spaces. Our art museum highlights the art in the community, showcasing the beauty in our city and the Indy culture while offering a unique opportunity to be a part of some amazing experiences. My experience today was part of the Total Eclipse of the Sun Party-- and it was amazing. As part of my ticket, I got to pop into the Lume, which featured the work of Dali.. again amazing. The memberships are affordable & if you're an enthusiast of art, culture, or community events. JOIN! 10/10

The conservatory exceeded our expectations! Admissions is affordable at $5 per person, but it was free the day we visited because of a reptile show! We got to see tortoises, skinks, salamanders, tarantulas, snakes, and more! Inside the conservatory, there are fish and a couple other critters permanently on display. The signage around the gardens is informative and interesting- and the plants are simply beautiful! So well cared for and healthy. I could have walked around the loop 5 times and noticed new things each time. There are several places to sit and relax throughout the gardens (we fed our baby on one of the benches). There is a restroom and coat racks- which you'll need because the gardens are quite warm! What a great find for the afternoon! Bonus that it's located right in a park, by a library, several cute places to stop and eat, and public art. The only downside I can think of is that there wasn't a ton of parking- probably more accessible when there isn't a special event going on!

It's close to the highway so easy access and near my house - double plus. The admission to get in was $4 per person, and they take card - another plus for being inexpensive. They have plants for sale and host events/activities, the lady working was friendly and explained all of that. They have brochures in the front as well. Inside is so astonishing, there is so much to see. It's so beautiful, I adore and admire all of it. I love how things are labeled and have informational tidbits about the plants. They have ponds with live fish and waterfalls around. They have a restroom and it had a window so of course there is a plant inside, I love it. I'll have to take note next time I go here that it was very warm inside, I felt very hot so dress accordingly. There is parking available. Check hours before coming, holidays vary.

It's been a decade since my last review of Holliday Park, so it's time for an update. I've been…read morevisiting this park since I moved to Indiana more than 10 years ago, and it had stayed reliably the same, until recently. Now, there's a brand-new playground! The playground at Holliday Park has been completely redesigned as of November 2025. The new playground is nature-inspired, with lots of wooden elements. My favorite part of the playground is the loose parts area, where kids can make teepees and build forts with the collection of natural elements that are there: sticks, tree limbs, stumps, rope, wooden crates, straw and other things that allow kids to use their imagination to create. The playground is designed for all ages, but to me, it skews slightly in favor of younger kids. Which is nice for parents of younger children, because most playgrounds seems to be built for older kids. But there are some elements for older kids here, like the huge rope climbing structure. A niggling thing: There is zero shade on the playground now. None. Which isn't a big deal on overcast or cool days, but once summer comes around, this playground is going to be insufferable. They got rid of some of the trees that used to be where the new playground is, which is a shame. One cool thing, though, that I've never seen in any other playground: hammocks! There's an area near the trees with a bunch of hammocks that kids can lie in and just relax under the trees. The rest of Holliday Park is the same. There's still a splash pad by The Ruins during the summer. There's still a nice nature center. There are still lots of trails to explore. This is one of the best parks in Indianapolis, in my opinion.

This 3 mile loop will take you from 11th Street down to White River State Park to access the green space and extra trails down there. The canal water itself is not super cute, where there can be litter, and the water is rather opaque. They do drain the canal every so often to keep it from getting too uncute. The sidewalks are kept nicer, though a few spots in front of apartment buildings could use some TLC. There are also a few spots where the sidewalk is not level, so take caution if that is an issue. It's mostly stair access to the canal, but I *think* I've seen an elevator around the Ohio street basin. The canal has a few businesses along it for your merriment. Notably, there is Fresco on the Canal (I have a separate review for this) which is open March-October. Eiteljorg museum cafe is open daily around the lunch hours (11-3) and can be accessed through their patio gate. Entertainment wise, there is more going on. I've done the swan boat rentals, where you can pedal around on the canal. This is quite a workout! Rental of swan boats and kayaks is near the Ohio Street basin. There is also the gondolas, where your gondolier can sing, and they've always sounded marvelous. There's also a few stations for the Pacers Bikeshare around the canal, which is free for Marion County residents. Any time the weather is right, you can find me getting my steps in!
