The ramen was phenomenal! I've been to tons of ramen places and this one is really up there on my list of places to return to. We also ordered the crab Rangoon, which was delicious. It was getting busy when we walked in, but Frankie was working hard and never seemed to forget about a single thing, so he's got some great customer service. He works in the Frontier Lounge right now, so you got a nice little small bar ambience going on too.

Last week when we were in Charleston, we were lucky enough to happen upon Kultura. It's a Filipino…read morerestaurant. Before before getting to the food, the space was inviting and had a lot of cool touches. And the service was great! My wife, youngest, and I shared a number of plates. Some of the first include included the Kinilaw, the Lumpia, and the Laing. The Kinilaw is a yellow tuna dish. The tuna melted in your mouth and the flavors from the coconut-leche dressing, ginger, and jalapeño, as well as the fresh mint, added to the flavor palette. I didn't try the Lumpia because it is skinny spring rolls made with ground pork. My wife and youngest said they were great in really enjoyed the taste. The Laing was a vegetable dish involving creamy brace kale with garlic, ginger, and coconut milk. Of course it sounds different and it was, but in a really good way. Again, the way the flavors worked together was really great. The last dish we got was the Curry. It is grilled red snapper with braised, mung beans, tempura sweet potatoes over coconut red curry sauce and rice. It was so good. Again, the flavors in this dish were amazing. The fish was cooked just right. And the way the dish worked together was a piece of culinary art. They also had cool cocktails, good beers, and even mocktails for our teenager. Our experience at Kultura was better than we even expected from looking at the menu online. If you find yourself in Charleston, do yourself a favor and check this place out.

We ordered the Laing, the new eggplant omelet, and the fish curry with coconut red curry sauce, sweet potato, and mung beans over rice. Two small plates and one large plate were perfect for two. Everything was flavorful and beautifully balanced, and we left feeling completely satisfied. We'll definitely be back and highly recommend it.

Finally got a chance to check out 2 Nixons at a pop up they did at Proof. If you know how much I…read morelove Proof, you know this was a perfect pairing for me. I sneaked a peak at the menu on FB before the dinner and was dead set on the lobster ramen. After confidently ordering with merely a glance at the menu (my mind was made up in advance), I was promptly notified that the ramen did not contain lobster, but rather was a lobster broth base. I had a brief moment of disappointment, but quickly changed my tune as I realized I was still getting ramen. The ramen came out pretty quickly and I've got to give it up to the guys from 2 Nixons. Ramen is a delicate and complicated dish. To be able to execute it so well in an array of make shift kitchens all around town is pretty impressive. After tasting the lobster broth, I lost any resemblance of disappointment I may have had. In this giant bowl, you could also find the regular suspects of pork confit, a soft boiled egg, pickles, corn, scallions, and mushrooms. Everything was perfect together and I was tempted to get a side order of noodles to keep this dish alive, but honestly I was full after digging to the bottom.

Although the menu is limited (understandably), the dishes themselves are so packed full of flavor and yumminess that it more than makes up for the lack of options. I tried the Okonomiyaki which he did in a waffle iron, and it was so tasty! I wasn't really sure what to expect, but it blew me away. I would best describe it as Japanese comfort food with an American twist (thanks to the waffle iron). It was topped with all sorts of goodies (sorry I don't remember the details right now, but I want to say there was like brussels sprouts and cabbage and bacon (I mean, come on, so good!). The Kimchi Burger was quite a contender as well. A really thick, seasoned beef patty, cooked to a perfect medium rare, oozing with sharp cheddar cheese sauce, homemade pickles and kimchi. I think I may have blacked out for a second after taking my first bite. I know his menu changes often, and you can bet I'll be back to try out some of the ramen in the future!
