Cafe Cafe on Harrow on the Hill is a bar, restaurant and cafe. The front over looks Harrow on the…read moreHill's pretty and old-fashioned high street and has outdoor seating allowing you to sip your coffee and people watch continental style. The food in the restaurant is varied from quintessentially English food such as roast lamb, to more exotic dishes such as Thai curry. The cafe at the front serves bar snacks and sandwiches and I would highly recommend the steak sandwich with chips which is a somewhat cheaper alternative to a meal in the fairly expensive restaurant, if not just as good. As one of the few bars at the top of the hill Cafe Cafe can get very busy on a Friday or Saturday evening so head down early if you want to get a seat. The cafe also gets busy at weekends when rich parents from the home counties come down to take their children from the nearby boarding school out to lunch.

Cafe Cafe is really more of a wine bar than anything it else. They offer a great wine list in here…read morenot to mention a lovely selection of cocktails and spirits. Clearly they are catering for the Harrow-on-the-Hill wino's because the prices are a lot more expensive than you would find anywhere near the tube station. Having said this it is this very location that makes Cafe Cafe such a nice place to drink. Weaving between the old houses and bendy streets Harrow-on-the-Hill feels like and old fashioned town and Cafe Cafe fits in perfectly. The menu is a bit eclectic and I'm not really sure what they are trying to achieve. British staples, American snacks, Italian pizza's and Thai curries all sit side by side. Some of these dishes are better than others but generally I get the feeling that everything is home made and good quality. Portions are pretty substantial so they make it worthwhile spending that bit more. Cafe Cafe biggest problem is that it unfortunately attracts the parents of the boarding school nearby. This rich set are often quite rude and generally a bit ignorant to the way a bar like this works. I was shocked to watch a lady actually click for service (I've only ever seen that done in Home Alone). Nonetheless, if you happen to be on the hill I would recommend you pop in here for a couple before heading next door to Incanto for a lovely Italian meal. Harrow-on-the-Hill might be a bit too posh for its own good but it does boast some very nice places.

An American diner slightly failing to give the all American feel…read more.. Stopped by here for late breakfast/brunch Easter Sunday.. Understandably the restaurant was empty... You'd think with the extra attention you'd have a better experience... To be fair our server was attentive but also new and unfortunately seemed really disoriented due to lack of direction... Nonetheless he was nice and did indeed try his best.. Food was basic and just okay... Would I come back probably not... I got the classic English breakfast; as a Canadian now living in the UK, beans for breakfast still does intrigue me... Saying that an American style restaurant should stick to American style breakfast... It just wasn't great and I asked for toast on the side which was toasted to a point of turning into a cracker.. Super dry.. All in all just nothing to get excited for.... There are better options in the area.. Forget the franchises; try local

I generally dread coming to Frankie and Benny's. Somehow or another, the service is always terrible…read moreand the food is disappointing. However, this trip was better than usual. I got seated straight away, but then the usual wait to order kicked in. I was going to give the waiter ten minutes, and he finally got around to checking one a couple of minutes before I was going to leave. That's probably the worst part of this visit, which is nothing compared to how bad some previous visits have been. I ordered the classic meatballs... which were a new recipe. Not exactly classic, but I just fancied a big old plate of pasta. This trip was better than normal for two reasons. I'd been out hiking in the rain, and was soaked and cold. The waiter brought me my food as soon as it touched the pass. I've never had food that hot at a restaurant. It was just what I needed to warmup. Plus it helped that the dish (once I'd added some salt) was fairly good. Certainly better than expected. The other reason is that you can now pay the bill either on an app or just on the website. That's fixed one of the major issues I had - you could never track down a waiter to pay the bill when you wanted to get going.
