We finally got round to giving it a try, and in all honesty I wasn't sure what to expect. The place has mixed reviews, and I had my reservations. I don't think my opinion of a place has changed as quickly as it did here when our starters came out! My doubt turned to joy at the first bite of the hot link sausage, closely followed by an amazing Buffalo wing...I knew we were on to a winner! Mains wise I had spotted one of the best looking ribs I had seen in a long time, so asked the waitress for the same thing. My partner went for a burger and we added chips (with balsamic and mayo)and mac n cheese. The ribs were as stunning as they looked, full of meat, juicy, tasty and all round heaven on a plate. The burger was good, but if you want the best burger in the world go elsewhere. it's the BBQ side of things that make Meat & Shake stand out so I really suggest sticking with that...chicken, ribs, hotdogs etc The chips were amazing, I had never even seen chips with balsamic on before, but after these will be covering them in it in the future! The Mac n cheese was average, nice but in all honesty we didn't' need it...the portions were big and we were pretty stuffed! So food wise this is one of the best meals I have had for the price range it's in, and will 100% be going back. The only thing that really let Meat & Shake down was the service, and it wasn't just us. 3 tables around us were moaning to each other about it as well. The issue wasn't staff themselves, it was clearly there was not enough of them. We waited ages to order, and in the end skipped dessert before I aged another week myself. It's a simple change that would have given this place 5 stars...get some more staff on busy nights, and organise them better! In summary, give this place a visit, and you won't disappointed! In America you only see stuff like that at gas stations, and even there they hold the mayo. In England, they put so much mayo on those sandwiches that it actually gets listed as an ingredient. So whereas you'd have a chicken sandwich with mayo in America, in England it becomes a chicken mayo sandwich. That's just wrong. And nasty. Enter Pickle & Rye. If this place were in Soho or South Kensington then there'd be lines out the door. True Mortlake is in London's upscale southwest and thus home to several affluent American ex-pats, but I feel like that this gem of a sandwich place is missing out on a golden opportunity by being stuck out in the middle of nowhere. It was a trek to get to even from Fulham, and I've got plenty of friends who think that Fulham is enough of a trek already. Or at least that's their excuse for never coming to visit us. This place would merely have to not completely suck to be one of the best sandwich places in London, but it's really taken the art of the sandwich to another level. The owner / head sandwich dude is a culinary school graduate who roasts all their meats, cures his own corned beef (known around these parts as salt beef), makes his own dill pickles (which are easily the best that I've ever had in England) and Russian dressing, with the result being the finest reuben this side of the Atlantic. The place does not accept American Express. But then, the food is also rather lackluster. With lemonade being sickeningly sweet and having an odd, chemical flavor. The Budweiser Prohibition Brew we ordered was replaced with Budweiser Zero - a much poorer alternative. The food is edible and we did not get sick after eating it, but it is on the more expensive side, given the quality. In particular, everything was very greasy - which is not always a bad thing with a diner, but here it was not great. My steak - ordered medium-rare, came medium/well-done which I had to ask to be replaced. It did get replaced with a (nearly) properly cooked (more solidly medium, not rarer) one. I wish it was 14 oz ribeye I paid for, not a thin 8 oz, though. The meat was tasty, a bit lacking the flavor, and the bone was large - not worth the price. The fries were good. The place is halal certified. So the bacon you will get is chicken-based. The environment is very "movie 1950s" - unlike the true diners, but also lacking the atmosphere of the 50s. It would be very enjoyable for its ambiance, if not for the fact, that the place is filled with families with young kids, and as such gets kindergarten loud at times. I had high hopes, but I did not get a satisfactory meal. I did not have a great experience, and I did not get a bargain. Most of the courses were quite tasty and well done, and a few needed some work, but I imagine a lot of it is due to the fact that they aren't typically a tasting menu sort of place. The duck meatloaf, red snapper hash, sausages and black bean soup were pretty amazing. If that night was a good showing of what they typically do, I'll be back. I was told by one of the David's (both the owners are named David) that brunch is what they do best. Since it's my favorite meal of the day, I hope one day to trek out to Chiswick to give their brunch a chance!

Classic Byron burgers FTW!…read more I like a burger that doesn't have too much "stuff". Byron is excellent, they use a perfect amount of tomato and lettuce so that you can still enjoy the tasty burger patty, and leave the condiments up to you at the table. The bun itself is a good size too, it isn't so huge that you have to get through a lot of bread to get to the burger, hate it when that happens! The patty itself is best when you ask for medium in my opinion, the medium rare is too soft and doesn't have enough flavour. The home-made skin on chips are delicious and far superior to the regular french fries here. The courgette fries are also yummy and taste like lightly done tempura. The macaroni and cheese here is decent but the burger is the star. Surprisingly, the house salad is fresh and perfect! It comes with rocket leaves and cherry tomato halves and a great balsamic vinaigrette dressing. I have tried some of the other burger variations, the cheese burger, the veggie burger, and the special greek lamb burger offer, but none of them beats the classic. Byron is a good place to grab a burger anytime.
