I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was sweet and tangy and very messy which paired well with a sweet tea. The meatloaf and mac & cheese was good too and a big helpin' perfect with a tart dirty lemonade. And the black cherry cheesecake square was delectable. I can see why they are so popular. Satisfyingly I can add that I ended my food trip with the Buttermilk Blues for breakfast and fresh-squeezed juice. Almost home.

Unfortunately, it's a bit of a trek for me, so it hadn't happened. However, I got a Facebook notice about a special wine and food night they were having: A New York State of Wine. It was showcasing traditional American dishes and New York wines. One thing I learned is that New York makes wine! And some of it is actually pretty darn good! So the food at Blue Plate is American-style food. The evening was a special tasting menu. Most of the courses were quite tasty and well done, and a few needed some work, but I imagine a lot of it is due to the fact that they aren't typically a tasting menu sort of place. The duck meatloaf, red snapper hash, sausages and black bean soup were pretty amazing. If that night was a good showing of what they typically do, I'll be back. I was told by one of the David's (both the owners are named David) that brunch is what they do best. Since it's my favorite meal of the day, I hope one day to trek out to Chiswick to give their brunch a chance!

You'd think with the extra attention you'd have a better experience... To be fair our server was attentive but also new and unfortunately seemed really disoriented due to lack of direction... Nonetheless he was nice and did indeed try his best.. Food was basic and just okay... Would I come back probably not... I got the classic English breakfast; as a Canadian now living in the UK, beans for breakfast still does intrigue me... Saying that an American style restaurant should stick to American style breakfast... It just wasn't great and I asked for toast on the side which was toasted to a point of turning into a cracker.. Super dry.. All in all just nothing to get excited for.... There are better options in the area.. Forget the franchises; try local

I generally dread coming to Frankie and Benny's. Somehow or another, the service is always terrible…read moreand the food is disappointing. However, this trip was better than usual. I got seated straight away, but then the usual wait to order kicked in. I was going to give the waiter ten minutes, and he finally got around to checking one a couple of minutes before I was going to leave. That's probably the worst part of this visit, which is nothing compared to how bad some previous visits have been. I ordered the classic meatballs... which were a new recipe. Not exactly classic, but I just fancied a big old plate of pasta. This trip was better than normal for two reasons. I'd been out hiking in the rain, and was soaked and cold. The waiter brought me my food as soon as it touched the pass. I've never had food that hot at a restaurant. It was just what I needed to warmup. Plus it helped that the dish (once I'd added some salt) was fairly good. Certainly better than expected. The other reason is that you can now pay the bill either on an app or just on the website. That's fixed one of the major issues I had - you could never track down a waiter to pay the bill when you wanted to get going.

The beef burger I had was really good, but the buttermilk chipotle chicken burger I had delivered just didn't taste right, not quite sure what it was as the condiments and the bun were good, but the actual chicken itself wasn't great. The burgers are served on wooden boards and are beautifully presented (see photos) They have a variety of french fries with different toppings which were all really good (and the portions were huge), and my friends had some of their milkshakes which they all seemed to enjoy. Service: Great Price: Reasonable Would I go again: Maybe

We were worried it was too busy at first, but it was just people crowded outside and then just inside the door. We got a table straight away without an issue, but it wasn't like the place was empty - it was a happy medium-full for a Saturday afternoon. Having read the reviews, and still fancying a burger, that's what I opted for. I had the smoked burger, which was called "Smokey" something but I forget what. I'm thinking "Smoky Robinson" but it probably wasn't that. Service was a decent pace, and it felt like it took around the right amount of time for the food to arrive. I was delighted - the burger arrived in a glass dome filled with smoke. I'd seen that a fair bit on TV but never in person - it was very impressive! The burger itself was good - each element wasn't oversmoked so that you could taste the smoke yet still taste the actual burger elements individually. There was turkey bacon instead of normal bacon, which I presume because the restaurant is Halal - but you know what, I'd much rather have turkey bacon that some limp undercooked (and not crispy) regular bacon. Nothing worse than biting into a burger and pulling the bacon out along with anything attached to it. Well... genocide is worse. First world problems and all that!! ;) Only I could mention genocide in an attempt to be funny. #notfunnyatall Back on topic - I paid using the zapper app, which was the first time I used it, so I got a £5 discount. It also signed me automatically up for a reward card, which after another 5 visits and payed with the zapper card, you get £10 off the following meal. Not alcohol served here, but I wasn't about to drink booze with lunch - they do a really good imported cherry soda though. A solid four stars.

The food in the restaurant is varied from quintessentially English food such as roast lamb, to more exotic dishes such as Thai curry. The cafe at the front serves bar snacks and sandwiches and I would highly recommend the steak sandwich with chips which is a somewhat cheaper alternative to a meal in the fairly expensive restaurant, if not just as good. As one of the few bars at the top of the hill Cafe Cafe can get very busy on a Friday or Saturday evening so head down early if you want to get a seat. The cafe also gets busy at weekends when rich parents from the home counties come down to take their children from the nearby boarding school out to lunch.

Clearly they are catering for the Harrow-on-the-Hill wino's because the prices are a lot more expensive than you would find anywhere near the tube station. Having said this it is this very location that makes Cafe Cafe such a nice place to drink. Weaving between the old houses and bendy streets Harrow-on-the-Hill feels like and old fashioned town and Cafe Cafe fits in perfectly. The menu is a bit eclectic and I'm not really sure what they are trying to achieve. British staples, American snacks, Italian pizza's and Thai curries all sit side by side. Some of these dishes are better than others but generally I get the feeling that everything is home made and good quality. Portions are pretty substantial so they make it worthwhile spending that bit more. Cafe Cafe biggest problem is that it unfortunately attracts the parents of the boarding school nearby. This rich set are often quite rude and generally a bit ignorant to the way a bar like this works. I was shocked to watch a lady actually click for service (I've only ever seen that done in Home Alone). Nonetheless, if you happen to be on the hill I would recommend you pop in here for a couple before heading next door to Incanto for a lovely Italian meal. Harrow-on-the-Hill might be a bit too posh for its own good but it does boast some very nice places.
