M husband went in for an ACL repair 3 years ago and has never been the same. He lives with excruciating pain and barely able to walk. When he follows up with Petrigliano the only answer he gets is to take pain killers as needed. The BEST orthopedic doctor I've ever had, and Ive had numerous orthopedic surgeries from several different doctors so I know a great doctor from an ok doctor. Dr Petrigliano, UCLA Santa Monica. Dr Petrigliano is personable and immediately put me at ease to discuss the shoulder replacement I needed. He is extremely knowledgeable in his profession, personable in his approach when explaining the procedure and thorough to make sure all your questions were answered. And better yet he gets right back to any question asked through the portal, a huge plus. Mayra, his nurse, is truly an asset. She usually responds the same day with any non urgent questions and is always up beat and pleasant on the phone. After my shoulder replacement surgery not only did Dr. Petrigliano call to check on me, but twice, that's unheard of, that's never happened in any of my past surgeries . A first, absolutely a first, two of the attending anesthesiologists called to check on me to see how i was doing with the pain and comfort. Even the after hours doctors contacts for question, concerns and help were truly amazing. I needed questions answered a medication that was causing problems. this was addressed immediately. I have nothing but the highest praise for Dr Petrigliano and his team, the team of anesthesiologists and UCLA Santa Monica Hospital. I cannot recommend the more highly. As a point of reference, I have plenty of orthopedic doctors to choose from in the South Bay and interviewed three before I felt confident and comfortable knowing my shoulder replacement was in the hands of the right doctor. One draw back, Santa Monica is a bear to drive and park. However they do offer valet parking which is very reassuring. The pre-op scheduling and information was excellent from his staff. The surgical staff at Keck was helpful and informative putting me at ease. The nursing staff at Keck was amazing. If you're considering shoulder replacement surgery, I'm sure you want as much information as you can get to make your decision. Dr. Frank Petrigliano is the ultimate professional and more. Dr. Frank Petrigliano performed a revision shoulder surgery on me after my first surgery failed,  performed by another shoulder surgeon. With disappointment, depression and heartache, I was grateful that I found Dr. Frank Petrigliano who gave me new hope in a full recovery from the very first minute I walked into his office. The revision surgery was necessary to repair the torn ligaments in my clavicle after a snowboard accident in July 2020. Dr. Frank Petrigliano was quick to diagnose my injury as an actual Grade V injury. He offered the only modern, well-researched method that was proven to give better results than the traditional method that was originally used. Every other surgeon I visited recommended repeating the traditional method, which in my case, had already failed. Dr. Frank Petrigliano also advised me of the consequences of doing the traditional method since I already had hardware/screws in there, my bone could shatter from redoing it. He was confident and constantly reassured me that my shoulder would make a full recovery. He advised me that he would remove all the broken hardware from the previous surgery, reconstruct my shoulder, and add a metal hook plate to   stabilize my shoulder that would later be removed. He also did not have me start exercises for a month to ensure the hardware and tissue would heal properly and support my arm. He was confident, calm, personable, and made sure to answer all of my questions and concerns. He had absolutely no doubt that I would fully recover. Dr. Petrigliano performed the revision surgery in November 2020 and a follow up procedure to remove hardware in February 2021. During recovery after the surgery, I did not feel any bones grinding,  or had swelling and the pain level was minimal compared to the prior failed surgery. I barely had to use my pain meds. After the surgery he gave me his personal phone number to contact him for any questions. He even called me the next day after the surgery to make sure I was okay. I couldn't believe it. It is almost unheard of to be able to reach a doctor this quickly without making an appointment. He is also quick to respond and never leaves you waiting. In addition, he and his experienced surgery team employed superb and skillful surgical & stitching techniques to close and clean up a very large scar that was thick and lumpy left from the first surgery. He not only reconstructed my shoulder joint but corrected everything that was done wrong previously. I also learned that he rotated my shoulder during surgery to make sure there were no other issues that would prevent my shoulder from performing normal rotations as well as arthroscopic surgery to make sure my rotator cuff was not damaged. During the entire recovery, his office staff was constantly on the phone with my insurance company providing documents and helping me anyway they could. Dr. Petrigliano and his office staff truly went above and beyond their call of duties for me and I couldn't ask for more. They provided me with consistent great support, never quit on me or gave me a hard time. Every single person in that office is extremely friendly and helpful. He has fantastic bedside manner, and it was never an issue to make an appointment to see him if I had any concerns. The whole surgery and recovery experience was a day-and-night difference from my first surgery. Excellent doctors and great support are so hard to find these days. I can not thank the team enough. I also appreciate the fact the PT office is located on the same premises adjacent to Dr. Petrigliano's office, within the same building and there is constant communication amongst them to ensure I am making progress as they expected. Since PT is critical to recovery, I feel this synergy benefited my recovery. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Petrigliano and his staff from top to bottom. He is by far the best doctor I have ever dealt with. I would highly recommend him to anyone who values exemplary medical skill sets, superb patient care services, and admirable professionalism. Dr. Petrigliano is an incredibly talented surgeon whose compassion and bedside manner go above and beyond any orthopedic surgeon I have met. I saw Dr. P in hope of regaining the use of my right arm after I had 4 failed rotator cuff surgeries. One of which left me with a terrible infection which resulted in the lose of bone and my rotator cuff and most of the use of my right arm. For 2 years I was unable to do simple daily tasks such as wash and blowdry my own hair or even shake someone's hand. I was a mess both physically and emotionally. The moment I met Dr. P he gave me hope. He said it would never be perfect but he promised it would be better. I am 6 months post reverse shoulder replacement performed by Dr. P, and he was right, it will never be normal and I still have limitations, but I am so much better. I can wash and dry my hair, shake someone's hand, workout daily, but most important, I am pain free. I know my relationship with Dr. P isn't over as my shoulder will need an occasional "tune-up" as I get older. I am only 38 years old. But I am so thankful that I have a surgeon to turn to whom I trust whole-heartedly and know things would be so much worse if it wasn't for him. Dr. Petrigliano has consistently provided excellent care. When I was young I participated in the sport of body-building at the local gym and wore out my shoulder joints doing excessive deltoid muscle exercises with heavy weights. In hindsight, that was a big mistake, although I looked great and felt strong at the time. Both of my shoulder joints have been replaced in the last few years by Dr. Petrigliano and the replacement surgery ended the shoulder pain and his skillful surgical procedure did not restrict my shoulder mobility. The surgical procedure worked out excellently until recently when I was having unusual unexpected muscle fatigue and weakness in my right arm. I then called Dr. Petrigliano and he immediately scheduled an appointment to investigate the source of the problem. After an X-Ray and exam and a review with the neck specialist Dr. Gene Teckmyster, a new MRI of my neck revealed that the source of the problem was neurological stemming from a problem with nerve compression in my neck, calcification & a neck bone spur, and not a problem stemming from the prior shoulder surgery. In life, the test of a true professional is not when everything is going great, but when there is a problem post-surgery. It is at that moment when something unexpected arises that the best surgeons are resourceful and determined to find the root cause of the new problem and come up with the right solution so I can regain the lost strength in my right arm. Dr. Petrigliano and his team are top notch at working passionately to solve shoulder and arm problems and his extensive experience and focus on the recent unexpected muscle loss in my right arm almost 20 months after the joint replacement surgery to arrive at the correct neurological diagnosis has been very important to me and has given me peace of mind. I'm as pleased with Dr. Petrigliano and his team today as I was when he first helped me with my shoulder pain a few years ago. And, by the way, since he replaced my shoulder joints a couple years ago I have enjoyed pain free movement and have resumed many of my outdoor activities without pain. I expect to eventually regain most of my recent muscle loss in my right arm after the upcoming ACDF minimally invasive neck procedure to restore the nerve function to my right arm. Not a great experience. I waited 30 minutes in the lobby. Once in an exam room I waited an additional 60 minutes. When someone finally knocked on the door it was a different doctor. He explained that he would talk to me and do the exam and then he would go talk to Dr. Petrigliano and then Dr. Petrigliano would come into the room and share his thoughts with me. It felt very hands off and assembly line style. When Dr. Petrigliano finally came in he spoke with me for four or five minutes and rushed off. The whole thing felt very hurried and I left without a decent understanding of my problem. Having a doctors that takes the time to explain things is very important to me and I did not feel like Dr. Petrigliano did that. read more

Absolutely excellent in every way. I had waited for years. I heard the process and recovery would be very painful, long and awful. The actual results were terrific. The hospital and surgery went very well. The over-night at Keck was simple and totally withut pressure. The nurses were excellent, Dr. Petrigliano and Dr. Paco superb. Subsequently, PT at home for 4 weeks. Dr. Petrigliano let me out of the sling yesterday. I'm doing almost everything, being careful with certain motions. Just reaching for a parking ticket going into a lot used to be so painful. Today nothing to it. The whole experience has been excellent. I came to Dr. Petrigliano with a broken clavicle from a snowboarding accident (28 y.o.). I compared two surgeons to fix my bone and choosing Dr. Petrigliano was the best decision I could have made. During my consultation he took a hands on approach, learning my mobility and ensuring no other injuries around the broken bone. He talked me through the most updated medical theory in healing clavicles, and thoroughly explained the process. I did not need to know the questions to ask, he patiently and clearly offered the information. The surgery he performed had zero issues or complications, the bone healed perfectly, and the incision was clean leaving a high probability of no scarring. His bedside manner throughout the whole process was calming and built my confidence in him. What really set him apart from the majority of my experiences with doctors is that he gives his personal cellphone number. Defensive and rude for no reason. I returned for a follow up as instructed by Dr. Petrigliano and he acted like I was bothering him every week with my shoulder issue when in fact I had only seen him twice: for the initial consultation regarding an MRI in February 2018 and a follow up-today December 2018 which he told me to do if I was still in pain after Physical Therapy. He asked me sternly and impatiently what I wanted him to do about my shoulder pain as I apparently kept coming to see him about it. When I corrected him that I actually hadn't come to see him but twice (including today) he then proceeded to tell me he wasn't going to cut me open just to clean up a little tissue around a small tear. DUDE, I don't know what you want me to say. I'm not a doctor. I'm simply doing what you told me to do at my initial visit. If you didn't want your patient to return if they were still having pain after PT then don't tell them to come back. I certainly would have rather slept in instead of getting up at 6am to drive from Hancock Park out to Westwood to get berated by an impatient Doctor that was exaggerating/lying to my face about how many times I had seen him over the issue. First off, I was comparing this rotator tear to my previous tear (right shoulder) that was done at UCLA by another MD. That operation went without incident. If there were any differences, the only difference was the number of follow-up visits. This first operation I had one follow-up versus the three with Dr. Petrigliano. I am more in favor of the Dr Petrigliano's process. As for the consultation, operation, and post-operation, it all went extremely smooth. During the consultation, Dr. Petrigliano reviewed the MRI with me. I had a fairly large rotator tear (left shoulder). We discussed options and I elected to move forward with the operation. The operation went as planned no issues. Prior to leaving the hospital, Dr. Petrigliano and his staff gave easy directions for home care which I followed. During the home care process I had to call Dr. Petrigliano on an issue. He was available and provided the solution to my issue without any problems. There were three follow-ups with Dr. Petrigliano and his staff. Each one was was performed professionally and without incident. Any questions I had he and his staff were able to answer. I had the confidence that they were prepared to meet me and perform the follow up examination. From start to finish, Dr. Petrigliano and his staff performed in a manner that I would expect from a UCLA medical unit. read more

I would never recommend this person as a passionate & caring Orthopedic surgeon, in 2012, he caused me a lot of pains and he changed the path of my life as a new comer in the USA, In a sport accident and ridiculously I tore my ACL and extremely strained my LCL, as a new person in this country I didn't have any idea that how complicated is medical procedures and I remember those days there wasn't OBAMA care, I tried to find a doctor to accept me in a period of 20 days that my insurance was still valid but none of them gave me an appointment. Since I didn't have any other choice and I had to pay cash for my surgery everyone told me to go to Sylmar and try Olive view hospital, the only place that may give you insurance as a new comer. I remember the night that I drove there at 4:00 AM and finally a GP visited me around 9:00 AM and after doing a lot of tests on my knee she said I may have LCL & ACL tear and I need to visit a surgeon in Orthopedic department, they gave me an appointment for couple of days later and they also accepted me to have insurance which covered all my expenses later. I went to orthopedic department and unfortunately they had assigned me to see Frank Petrigliano. He came inside the room and after doing tests for 5 minutes and seeing my MRI strongly mentioned that I don't have any LCL problem and side to side move in my knee comes from ACL tear and he explained that in my case he will do auto-graft and will cut part of my Hamstring tendon and will put instead of my ACL, which in my case that all other doctors mentioned later was the most worst thing that could be done because of having mild ligament laxity. First 2 days after surgery I was doing ok all problems started from a day that I went to physical therapy center at Olive view and starting all my exercises to bring back my range of motion to normal level and also keeping my muscles active. I couldn't do the exercises easily and I had extreme pain inside my knee, every time after doing them I was about getting faint and it was a pain that I could feel in entire lower back which went through my nerve back to my knee. For 1.5 months in every visit I met him I asked about instability in my knee, having the same problem that I'd had before surgery and also having a crazy pain in my back which goes down to my knee, his answer was "you should be stronger and you have to take your medications to relieve your pain. (I couldn't accept this answer, it wasn't a normal pain, and always he prescribed Oxy-Codeine for 1.5 months, 650 mg every 4 hours). I requested second MRI but for any reason he denied that and asked me to go back to hospital after 6 months, just imagine that you don't feel good, you have pain, you are not comfortable and your doctor is saying come back after 6 months, (Probably He knew whatever he was doing, Based on a law you may file against a doctor who works for county's medical centers in a period of 6 months after observing any problem and he probably wanted to pass this period of time.) after couple of months I called hospital and informed them that I have pain and they gave me earlier appointment with a different doctor . The new doctor checked my knee and he ordered MRI because my knee's problem was obvious and I couldn't walk easily and I had the same instability which I'd had before the surgery. I got my MRI and everything was showing extremely strained LCL and again Meniscus tear. When I took the result to him he didn't have any reasonable answer and just said that I may had done something that has caused this as a new damage, I couldn't believe that a doctor gives such an irresponsible answer. Make the story short, at the end I wasn't able to sue him because I lost time and I didn't find any good lawyer or orthopedic expert, I was new in this country. I lost 3.5 years of my life; I became frustrated, depressed and anxious because of losing all my professional opportunities. At the end I went back to my country to visit my family and because of having pain I found a doctor who went through all of my previous surgery's history, he checked my before and after MRIs and he finally did a great job, Honestly he gave me a new life, I would never forgive this doctor and after 5 years I decided to share my story with whom are looking for a doctor and hoping that would be a passionate, dedicated and caring person. This doctor didn't show me any of this and he easily destroyed my life, I believe that Karma will return all of this to him. read more

I had an absolutely amazing experience with dr petrigliano and working myself in healthcare have a lot of experiences with both doctors and patients and dr P is a superstar so i felt the need to comment after reading the review about the knee surgery which to me didnt sound like petrigliano fault especially since it was right after they started PT. Yes PT is painful, and not easy, no duh lol thats why you have to be willing to make the investment and do the instructions and exercises. At the end of the day surgery is really only the first step to start the healing and repair process and patience is key. My story is the complete opposite, he didnt push me to do surgery in fact i actually sought him out for a second opinion bc hes known for doing shoulder repair and now i know why his reputation is so good around ucla. it was after discussing how much functional impairment i had and worsening instability that i decided to go through with the surgery after 15 years of accommodating to an old shoulder injury and multiple painful dislocations. I never had any major surgeries before dr P and his whole team made me feel safe and taken care of from start to finish. I got several calls before and after surgery from his team and even him to check in and make sure i was doing ok. I had to start exercises the day after surgery and was told in advance it takes a solid 6-9 months to truly get my full functioning back. Although im only 2.5 months out due to dr p And my physical therapists im moving my shoulder in directions it hasnt moved in over a decade. The results from my surgery truly give me a second chance at doing so many things ive had to give up and thats due to dr p and his team. So thank you dr p for giving me the opportunity to truly have a better quality of life over the long run. Surgery is scary and nothing is guaranteed but im so grateful i went through with it and the trust and confidence dr p was able to establish even in a short amount of time helped me mustard up the courage to go through with it. I was referred to Dr Petrigliano by a childhood. My friend is an Orthopedic Surgeon at the world renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC and trained Dr Petrigliano. Two years ago after another surgeon scheduled me for surgery to repair a partial rotator tear I saw Dr Petrigliano. He carefully went over the pluses and minuses of rotator surgery and recommended a more conservative non surgical approach involving PT and exercises. It worked great allowing another two years of international level master competition. Unfortunately during a recent event another player impeded my throwing motion mid shot completely tearing the rotator tendon. Dr Perigliano performed the surgery to reattach the tendon in early Dec '17. You will not find a more empathetic, compassionate and caring Dr. According to several other Surgeons I spoke with who know Dr Petrigliano they all were highly complimentary of his technical expertise as an orthopedic surgeon. Dr Petrigliano trained at the leading Orthopedic Surgical hospital in the world and now is a Professor in the Med School and practices at UCLA a teaching hospital also regarded as one of the finest in the world.
