The Crooked Lake Association does a great job of hosting events and keeping the community cohesive- the most notable are the fantastic 4th of July firework show and 5k race. The water is clean and beautiful and very family oriented. There are two sand bars that are a great place to float, throw a football or let kids search for shells. The lake freezes over in the winter and is great for hockey, ice skating, ice boating, or ice fishing! It's one of my favorite places, it's truly beautiful.

This is a very clicky park, most campers are very nice. As a seasonal camper you must be a drinking buddy of the owner, or stay on his good side, or he will kick you out on the spot. Had him sell our park model for us, thinking he would respect our property. WRONG !! He drug troves of people through our trailer, not what was agreed upon. He sold our park model to a friend, who was also a heavy drinker. He took the word of the other drunk that we had agreed upon a turn key purchase. It was not agreed upon the way it went down. While we were moving out he got angry with us, took his friends side, and told us " TO NEVER COME BACK". We NEVER gave him ANY issues, and always respected each park rule, and respected each camper. We were treated very unfairly. Will not ever recommend this campground to anyone, because a drunk is always right.

We ended a weekend of bachelor/bachelorette festivities here with some grilling, beer pong, boating, tubing, swimming, laying out and doing everything that Michigan was made for. Five stars mainly because I'm pretty damn terrified of "dark water" and so far, 100% of the times that I've come here, I haven't been eaten by sea life. I'm tempted to deduct a star because spiders also live in Gobles but I have yet to be accosted so 5 stars it shall remain. Baseline lake is great for camping, hiking, various water sports, grilling... and best of all drinking a beer for breakfast is totally acceptable. We are super fortunate to live on…read moreone of the Portage lakes and have access all the time, but between West, Austin, and Long Lake's parks only Long Lake has a beach (at Ramona Park). Nonetheless, this park has incredible views and offers decent fishing opportunities off of two extended docks, one of which features a large covered gazebo with benches. The playground area here looks legit, and my partner and I always enjoy stopping for a break here when we do a 9-mile cycling route that basically wraps around Austin Lake plus an extra mile each way to access the route from where we live. As with Long Lake, the boat launch is at a completely separate location from the park. Unlike Ramona Park, there is no charge to park at Lakeside Park. We are super excited at the prospect of all the cycling routes in the Vicksburg and Portage area connecting soon. Work got underway on connecting the Vicksburg path into Portage early last year but was halted due to the pandemic. So happy to have a little bit of spring-like weather this week to get out and celebrate all the wonderful natural spaces in our community.

There's also a small trail where you can exercise too. Don't worry, there are a couple of picnic areas for you and your family to bbq and enjoy the serenity of the beautiful lake. I've seen mergansers, loons, and all maker of unique ducks that typically only stay for a week or two in the spring and fall and right now seems to be the season for them. You can also catch the occasional baldy here. And if you're real brave and don't mind spider webs, you can kayak underneath Portage road and go from Austin Lake over to West Lake. It's super peaceful this time of year before everybody gets there ski boats out on the water.
