    Swimming at Dune Lake
    Mark H.

My Wife, 2 little girls and I LOVE Dune Lake: We like Dune Lake so much that we became seasonal campers, spending every weekend in the summer. And we've now been there for 10 years. Dune Lake is a private campground with a woodsy state-park feel to it. (not like some K.O.A.'s where folks are camped right on top of each other.) The spring-fed swimming lake is wonderful. And there are lots of activities and special events including Christmas in July,Ho down, Luau weekend, and The not-to-be missed haunted Forest in October. Doug and Deb are wonderful hosts. There is a lot to do in the area, everything from Blueberry picking and wineries to nature trails, petting zoos and shopping. South Haven is only 15 minutes away. Doug, Deb, Lynette and Dennis bend over backwards to make sure everyone enjoys their stay. And the regulars are a fun and welcoming bunch. The kids love the playgrounds , game room, beach, and especially the Hay Rides! As spring approaches each year, we can't wait to get back up to our special place. If you're not familiar with Southwest Michigan there is truly something for everyone there. And if you prefer a woodsy setting where every site is different, come check out Dune Lake. I do have to take issue with the poster that complained about being told repeatedly to slow down. One of the wonderful things about Dune Lake is that it is so kid friendly. And often our little-ones and others ride their bikes & scooters around the campground. For this reason, a Kid Zone signs and 5 MPH signs are posted. And yes, from time-to-time when someone goes speeding through the campground, they are asked to slow down. If the person was speeding to the point where a fellow camper yelled at them, then frankly, they were probably driving a bit too fast. People are enjoying nature and relaxing. Why such a rush? The same poster complained about the cleanliness. The facilities are cleaned several times a day. And as to the comment that the lake isn't fit for swimming. It's pristine and usually warm as a bathtub. He also complained about not allowing fishing. It's a swimming pond. not a smart place for fish-hooks on the beach. But there is plenty of good fishing and boating in the area for those who enjoy the sport, both on Lake Michigan at nearby lakes.

This is a little gem of a campground that's pleasantly filled with comforts and modern amenities. The campground itself is very small, but it's quiet, & has a steady body of water. I will be staying here again. I spent the weekend sitting in my hammock and enjoying hearing the water. 5/6 of the cabins face the water just as an fyi, so it's like a private paradise. The town of SoHa is really fun too and a great place to wine, dine, & explore. The cabins are basic and rustic with one plug in to charge your electronics. There is one light in there but it does get dark at night. Bring a nightlight. The queen bunk beds are great and comfortable. I would say more like 2-3 people could comfortably sleep in a cabin due to space and the cabins get hot at night! There's showers, there's toilets, there's cabins- oh my! The showers run on a unique token system. 1 token=$1=3 minutes of hot, private, shower. Tokens are purchased on site. the showers are game changers because they're open 24 hours with cameras outside so the owners monitor who goes in/out and your safety. As a queer person, I felt comfortable & safe at this campground.

The people working there were very nice and upfront about the do's and don'ts and what to expect. They warned us the river was low and there were some large branches that had fallen down onto the river. We found it was a relaxing, scenic, and though at times required paddling to avoid branches, it was a wonderful time just lazily floating down the river. At the end of the trip they showed where to use the showers and hoses in case we wanted to clean up. I'd give this place 5 stars but they have to work on removing the trees that block the entire width of the river bc it's a pain trying to climb over them. I'll be coming back with more visitors!

Middle of nowhere, across the street from the riverside kayak dock. Not too far from home but far enough it feels like we got away. We arrived Friday evening. Full park. Full hookup site with a patio area, and fire pit. Our site was the second space across from the clubhouse, store, and pool. Thankfully the pool was closed or it would have been a very annoying visit to hear yelling and splashing kids all day. The site was fine. Backed in our 35' 5-er just fine because we beat a few people across the road. It would have been very tight otherwise. We are fully self contained, so with the exception of check-in we kept away from everyone else. It was surprisingly easy. Their store has a lot of necessary items but mostly treats to make your stay a bit campier. We biked 10 miles to town and back. Dropped in for some kayaking too. Read the signs. There are red runs for advanced kayakers on the river. Logjams, and very high water really made for exceptional conditions. We got to a point we had to turn back and paddle upstream to the launch site at riverside. River was too obstructed. Also note, there is no getting off the river between riverside and the 10.5 miles into town. I don't recommend it. The 2.5 mile run from Bundy rd is quick and easy. Check river conditions before attempting any run. The high waters change river landscapes. I hope you have your own equipment because the rental places either aren't open or they blow you off. Back to the campsite. With all of that, the KOA was central to all the activity. Easy to maintain distance and still get out and be active. Great activities for kids with the jump pad and pond to catch frogs. The facility offers a perk of charging your store purchases to your site, so you don't always have to have money on you. They deliver pizza, Fire wood and ice. They also pickup trash daily between 8am-6pm. Staff is very friendly and quick with a smile and well-wishes. We'd surely go again but would get the deluxe patio site on the concrete. The rain storm Sunday night flooded a lot of sites.

We prefer not knowing our next door camper neighbor's business. I was looking for a campground to stay at for the weekend. But, every public campground was booked till October. I happened to stubble on Kal-Haven Outpost in a google search and this place was way better than I expected. The owners are a young couple who juggle their business and their little children simultaneously. But, they do their best being focused and attentive to their customer. They answer all my questions and always return phone calls (when I attempted to call them and they were busy). Our spot was in a wooded area and was about 50-75 feet away from the next door campers. Our campsite had a fire ring, tent area and picnic table. The bathhouse is accessible for everyone staying at Kal-Haven. The bathrooms were extremely clean and awesome. So much nicer than any other campgrounds I have stayed at. And there are very nice showers with a bench and hooks for hanging clothes and towel. I would recommend this place to everyone in a heartbeat! New, clean and nicest place ever! And I love the office/store/gift shop!
