This is a little gem of a campground that's pleasantly filled with comforts and modern amenities. The campground itself is very small, but it's quiet, & has a steady body of water. I will be staying here again. I spent the weekend sitting in my hammock and enjoying hearing the water. 5/6 of the cabins face the water just as an fyi, so it's like a private paradise. The town of SoHa is really fun too and a great place to wine, dine, & explore. The cabins are basic and rustic with one plug in to charge your electronics. There is one light in there but it does get dark at night. Bring a nightlight. The queen bunk beds are great and comfortable. I would say more like 2-3 people could comfortably sleep in a cabin due to space and the cabins get hot at night! There's showers, there's toilets, there's cabins- oh my! The showers run on a unique token system. 1 token=$1=3 minutes of hot, private, shower. Tokens are purchased on site. the showers are game changers because they're open 24 hours with cameras outside so the owners monitor who goes in/out and your safety. As a queer person, I felt comfortable & safe at this campground.

It's a lot of big rigs but they allow some of slummers lol but your camper must be 10 yrs old or less and the older ones must send a picture to be approved Nice big lots and cement pads Fire pits are slightly behind your spot and lots of room. They do have permanent sites and they have their own pool and clubhouse. They pick up your garbage every morning. On weekends they sometimes have music and food that you have to pre order. We did not par take. EVERYONE was so nice and friendly. EXCEPT FOR THE OLD GUY THAT GOT OUT OF THE POOL TO CLIP HIS TOE NAILS AND LEFT THEM NEXT TO HIS CHAIR AT THE POOL‍ Lots of dogs which I loved! Our site was sand/grass and level, with full hook up and pull-through. Martin is super friendly and made sure we were okay as we set up. And our neighbors were very nice. Okay, for the fun stuff - we had less than a 5 minute walk to Lake Michigan and beach walking. This isn't the part of the beach with lots to do. For that, you'll need to hop on a bike or drive. I imagine in the summer and on weekends, this place is busy and louder; we stayed on a weeknight and it was fantastically quiet - best night's sleep we've had this trip. A lot of full-timers here. I rented here because the reviews online that I had read were better than good, but when I really dug into other review sites once I returned home, other than where I booked from, I found a completely different story. I want to make sure that there is a fair recommendation out there for people to really make up their mind on whether or not they should stay here. First, I do want to mention that the owners were very polite to us and we have no issue with them. Also, there is a charm to these old-style motel rooms including the beautiful tile in the bathrooms. Additionally, there are new entry doors with digital locks as well as new windows. And true, this place is serene and great if you like peace and quiet - but still, there are many additional things to take into consideration. Although the rooms appear nice in the pictures, there are still issues like water damaged ceilings, water damaged bathroom doors, leaky tub fixtures (which were also way out of date and require replacing), drywall that needs to be retaped and mudded as well as a musty smell to the rooms that don't show up in pictures. One of the two rooms had bugs, but not because the room was dirty and I'm not talking cock roaches, just bugs. The reason? The wall air conditioner is not sealed on the sides and bugs get in through the outside vent, and then through the side panels that are not sealed against the air conditioner. There were also some inconsistencies like one of the rooms had a microwave, one didn't. One had information about your stay, one didn't. There is no coffee maker or ironing board in the room, but you could ask at the front desk to use these items (listed in the information about the room) we did not, we might have used these items had they been in the room, but since it was not readily available, we just made other arrangements. Again, I really want to be fair here - but these basic amenities plus others like ice were not available to us. Additionally, there was no pool, there was no breakfast. The thing that is really agitating and I think that is important for travelers to know is that there is NOTHING here that justifies the room rates and just because it is in South Haven doesn't justify the price. The weekend before and as a part of this trip, we stayed in a Comfort Inn and Suites that had a nice, comfortable, up to date room, with an indoor pool and included breakfast for $120.00 per room per night in the Wisconsin Dells. For what I paid at Jensen's, it feels like we stayed in a dump.

One of our favorite little surprises was the cartoons at night. It was such a simple, nostalgic touch that made the evenings feel special... even if the young staff had a battle figuring out the DVD player. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the flies. OMG... there were SO many flies that it made hanging around our campsite pretty miserable at times. It was also pretty expensive for a tent site. That said, when you factor in everything that's included for kids, I can definitely see where the value comes from. We'd absolutely come back, just with a lot more bug spray next time!

Remember to book as soon as possible this place is popular! A campsite is around $50 with electric and dont forget to get a sticker for Michigan state parks, it is required. This price is super reasonable for all you get and its dog friendly! Sites vary in size, but lots of options. The campground is super clean and well maintained (yes, even the bathrooms and showers.) I came across this gem of a campground a few years ago and I have been returning yearly. Van Buren is only about 10 minutes from South Haven so you can enjoy both vibes! They have their own gorgeous beach just a few minutes walk from your campsite and on the way there is a beautiful walk with a big and clean bathhouse right next to the beach and free life vests for all the little kids. Did i mention this campground is dog friendly!? I love bringing my furry family member here. The grounds are calm, quiet and the people are super nice. The staff is never too far away keeping an eye on things. I always feel safe here. There is a daily activity sheet and the campground host is very accessible and they have a little area right before you drive into the camp with information pamphlets and little things to look at. Hiking, biking, dunes, vollyball, beach, dunes & close to south Haven and a beautiful place to chill out at the end of the day at your campsite or RV with a nice fire and good friends. It's just steps away from the chainferry, so if you're in downtown Saugatuck, a lot of people will chainferry it over and explore this park. We had a beautiful weather day that was just chilly enough to now want to park at the beach. This ended up being a ton of fun because we could essentially hike up a dune, make our way to Oval Beach and get the unique experience of nature here. The steps are not as crazy as I'm making it out to be, and there are nice little rest benches as you go, if needed. Bonus, there are so few if any mosquitoes here. We didn't really know what to do after we got to the top. We ended up just letting whatever sounded fun happen, which ended with us dunking feet in the waters at Oval Beach. *Important tip! If you do this, do NOT head back up the same dune you come down to return to town. It's a steep, hot, sandy dune that will zap all your energy. Instead, take the "John Woolam Trail" as you come out of Oval Beach for a nice, flatter, solid, wooded experience.
