She was so comfortable and supported by all the nurses. The facility is clean, spacious, and beautiful. They have activities every day for the patience, helping them to feel included and not excluded from the world while they heal. The nurses were attentive, friendly, and kind to her. Their follow up has been amazing, post discharge, they continue to check on mom. Their services they provide are top tier, I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who needs to heal, rehab, and be comfortable and supported while doing so. Especially to Joan Megna, she was amazing to work with pre admittance, during moms stay and post discharge, thank you so much Kapunawai Ola!!

They made my relative wait more than 20 minutes for help, sometimes she needed to her diaper to be changed and she was left in her soiled diaper for more than 15 minutes. Also, they did not inform us about all her new illnesses she contracted while in their care. Also this place is not sanitary. Many times we witnessed the staff touching our relatives personal belongings and also, medicines and food without washing their hands, sanitizing their hands and without gloves. I really regret admitting our relative here.

I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with management here--specifically this HEAD…read moresupervisor--was concerning enough to warrant it. There is a clear pattern of inconsistency, favoritism, and lack of accountability. Expectations are not applied evenly, and decisions often appear biased rather than based on performance or professionalism. This creates an environment that feels disorganized and, at times, unfair. More importantly, there is a noticeable gap in leadership. Effective supervisors should provide clear communication, support their staff, and handle concerns with professionalism. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. Questions are often dismissed, feedback is not handled constructively, and there is little effort to ensure a cohesive or respectful workplace. I strongly encourage upper management to take a closer look at how this department is being run. With the right leadership, this could be a much more productive and positive environment--but as it stands, the supervision is a major issue.

I give this place 0 stars- if I could, it would be negative stars- i had to put 1 star just to post this review. It's the worst care facility that I've experienced. My dad went in for rehab, but less than 24 hours later, I made them call 911, because he had a respiratory issue, & they left him like that overnight....pure negligence- even the firefighter said so! Needless to say, he was back in the hospital, then in hospice, then passed away a month later. I always wonder if he would still be alive if they had called 911 as soon as it happened.

All of the units sold as real estate and then owner occupied or rented out to tenants such as my MIL. Tenants must be 55 years or older, completely independent in their care (can use oxygen, walker, or wheelchair) or have a caregivers for light duties. While there is staff on site, there are NO caregivers. Many of the residents have lived there for several years, still work and still drive...nicer cars than me! The grounds are well maintained with beautiful landscaping and many of the units have a gorgeous view of the Waianae Mountain Range. The main gate to the community is closed at 6pm and on the weekends. Guests can call the unit they're visiting on the intercom system, but sometimes the system isn't working. If a resident has an emergency, the main office assures emergency personal can access the tenant-though they have their own remote control to open the gate during evening hours-and notifies the family. There are no dining services on site, but all units are equipped with their own kitchen or can sign up for Meals on Wheels. There are daily activities, a library and a gym but it is all in the main building which can be a far walk for tenants. There is also a community garden that the tenants can contribute to, but again, it's rather far from most units. Unfortunately my MIL doesn't utilize any of these services because the walk is too far for her so I can't comment on them but it's nice knowing they're there. All in all, Olaloa is a GREAT community for seniors who don't want to or were having difficulty maintaining a large home. I love having my Mil close by so we can assist her as needed and know that she is in a safe environment.

After a bout of hospital-acquired pneumonia turned our loved-one's nursing home stay from rehab to…read morelong-term care, our lives were turned inside out. While the CNAs and RNs at the nursing home provided all the basic care and kindness they could, the staffing just wasn't robust enough and we watched him go from walking to bedridden to rapid weight loss and failing, all within 2-1/2 months. We spent exhaustive amounts of time looking for alternative care that could give him a second chance, but despite a lot of glittering promises upfront from care placement agencies, every option came up empty. Finally we found Kina'Ole Estate. On our initial Google search, we breezed over Kina'Ole because we wrongly presumed from its architecture, design, and layout that only assisted living services would be offered. All the long-term care facilities we encountered looked like either a nursing home or a residential care home. Nestled in a gated, tropical setting in Kane'ohe, Kina'Ole is what long-term care should be, but seldom is. Each of the houses on the estate has no more than 8 residents, each with their own sizeable private room with en suite accessible bathroom and roll-in shower. The rooms are arranged around the periphery of each building so each resident has a bank of windows to provide sunlight and fresh breezes, as well as an individual split air conditioning unit for summer days if it gets a bit warm or humid. In the center of each house is a very large common room separated into various sitting areas where residents receive their meals (each house has a kitchen where the home-cooked meals are prepared) and are able to socialize and participate in the daily activities offered. Outside is a generous covered lanai with plenty of seating to enjoy a chat with other residents or visiting friends and relatives, or just relax to read a book. Each house has a full-time house manager and round-the-clock CNAs who are nothing short of amazing. The owner, Beth Slavens, has assembled the most wonderful group of caring individuals and each of them seems to take personal pride in providing exceptional care to the residents. The day our loved one moved in was the first day in months that we were able to finally breathe and know that he was getting the best care possible on O'ahu. Already our loved-one is perking up. He's gone from being stuck in a nursing home bed 24/7 to being safely assisted into a wheelchair and brought into the common room for every meal. They also take him outside so he can feel the sun and tradewinds. On his second day there, his caregiver wheeled him around for a complete tour of all the houses and he was alert and full of questions. We are now hopeful that he can progress back to good health and mobility again. Thank you to Beth and all our new ohana at Kina'Ole. We will forever be grateful.

There are so many options out there & finding a facility that is the right fit for your loved one is so important. Our family had to make that heart wrenching decision to place my dad in an assisted living facility & after looking at many options & visiting many facilities we first placed him in a large facility that was very nice, staff was nice & looked like it had all the bells & whistles...after about 4 weeks & many reasons later we knew that it was not a good fit for him & we needed to move him...he needed a smaller more home like atmosphere with more individual attention. A friend suggested Kina'Ole in Kaneohe & we arranged for a tour with the owner Beth. From the very moment we entered the beautiful gated property we knew this was the place for dad...it was exactly what we were looking for! The grounds are so beautiful & well taken care of...3 separate homes on the property with beautiful trees & flowers everywhere...nice paved walkways & even a few chickens running around with their baby chicks...my dad loved it!! We decided to place him there & it is the best decision ever!!! Dad's house has 8 rooms...each resident has their own large bedroom & private bathroom which we could decorate however we wanted too...so it could feel like home for him...theres a large living room/common area where the residents have their daily activities & delicious home cooked meals & where they can just relax together on their own recliners & watch a movie together & have a snack. There's lots of staff to help out & to care for dad & all the residents...the entire staff at Kina'Ole are amazing!!! They have made the transition so easy for dad & our family & to watch dad immediately feel welcomed, comfortable & relaxed there has been the best feeling in the world!! Dad loves to be outdoors & take walks & the staff will take him outside twice a day for a nice long walk or whenever he'd like one...they truly care for the residents as though they were their own family members! Dad told me that he "feels spoiled" there cause they all so attentive & take such good care of him! I almost cried hearing him say those words because I knew we had found the perfect place for him!!! He is thriving & happy & so are we!!! We now don't have the constant worry we had before...we know that everyone at Kina'Ole makes it their priority to care for dad's physical & emotional well-being...we finally have peace of mind The icing on the cake was last week I got a text message for Wehilani (head nurse in his house) & she sent me pics of dad out & about with his housemates enjoying the gorgeous grounds & having fun with his new friends. She shared with me how his week went...how well he's adjusting, how his appetite has been, how he's been sleeping (great) & just a report of his week Kina'Ole is a hidden gem & our family feels so blessed to now be part of their ohana!
