The location was convenient. He was here approximately two weeks. The main reason to going to short-term rehab is if they need more physical therapy and occupational therapy to get stronger to be independent. Sometimes they no longer need to be in the hospital, but may be a fall risk so going to short-term rehab is a good idea. Overall, I think he had a good experience. He did receive PT and OT on most days. I believe it's six days a week. First they started him with a walker, then a cane, and then did trial him on no assist device. I also asked them to make sure he could navigate stairs. He told me the food was pretty good. Staff was attentive. Physical therapist and occupational therapist were personable and provided good therapy. Would definitely recommend this place for short-term rehab.

Most of the staff have worked here for years and they are a wonderful group of caring and attentive people. I observe them working cohesively together as a team. The RNs in charge get to know each patient personally as well as their conditions, treatments and goals. As a Registered Nurse, I am satisfied and pleased with the care and rehab provided at Hale Ola Kino.

The only drawback I see is driving up the winding and steep hills of Sierra Drive and Wilhelmina Rise. You will, however be rewarded with million dollar views that you can take in and appreciate. They have quite a good amount of programs that everyone can participate in. Of all the facilities that were presented to us, we chose Maunalani. The regular menu rotates from week to week but there are other options, depending on the residents dietary requirements and restrictions, that the staff would provide at meal times and in between such as sandwiches pizza, samin etc. There's always a green salad and fresh fruit which is a nice change from hospital style food. Depending on the person's requirements you are also able to bring in outside food, treats, and goodies. The dining room is spectacular. As a non-profit organization they will not milk your insurance company dry before they discharge your friend or family member. The objective of this facility is to rehabilitate people in a healthy, friendly, loving and professional manner. Physical therapy and occupational therapy is offered daily. There are many social activities including religious, games,.exercise music and entertaient, animal interaction and the list goes on. The views are spectacular and the many lanais offer fresh air and sunshine. Our discharge interview was thorough and informational involving many departments of this facility. Big shout out to Karl, Meaghan, Brinh, Manny, "Nikki", Lauren and oh so many others

She used to call me at home, to call the front desk, so that they would go and help her to the bathroom. She would press the call button but nobody would come, therefore, she would have accidents in bed. Keep in mind that my mom was 91 and did NOT have to use diapers, but they put her in diapers. I can only imagine how degrading it was for her during her stay. Another cause of concern was only 30 minute visitations were allowed because of Covid. I totally understand this, but your time starts ticking as soon as you sign in. Their elevators are so slow so our visit was only 5 minutes due to the wait for the elevators. We couldn't even visit with her! So sad and depressing. Needless to say, I took her out of this place so that she could live her final weeks at home. I sure hope visits and care are better now for the patients and families.

The tour representative that walked us through was Mr. Thomas Eustace. He patiently covered all aspects of living there. Very nice well informed gentleman. Mahalo to your time but will soon want to move in.

SORRY GUYS!! I know my mom can & will be a bit difficult to handle at some point, but still... this is the career you folks chose and so I say... "DO YOUR DAMN JOB & LOVE IT!! IF NOT, CHANGE CAREERS!!" AHAHA!! Kidding... no but SERIOUS... if you're not one to be patient with these kupunas or sickly folks, then you shouldn't work here. Because these people really need a lot of LOVE, ATTENTION & MOST OF ALL... PATIENCE. A LOT OF PATIENCE LET ME TELL YOU...‍ Yeah... a bit cold but I've had encountered issues prior to her coming here and I'm very concerned if she's being well cared for. Especially because there are NO VISITORS ALLOWED UNLESS ITS DIRE NEEDS OR CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW PERMISSION FOR A FAMILY MEMBER TO VISIT. BASICALLY SAYING... IF THEYRE DYING OR WILL DIE SOON, THEN THEYLL ALLOW A FAMILY MEMBER TO VISIT DURING THIS TIME. STUPID COVID!!! On the other hand, I AM VERY TRULY GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING EACH ONE OF YOU EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, ADMIN DO FOR OUR LOVED ONES & I PROMISE TO CHANGE MY RATING ONCE I GET INSIDE AND SEE THE WHOLE FACILITY IN PERSON SO THAT IT CAN BE A 5 STAR REVIEW. BUT... I hope this review isn't offensive, it's really just a quick thought of what I had based on what we're allowed to get @ this time. Okie dokes! Thanks guys!! MUCH ALOHA & STAY SAFE! UPDATE REVIEW... So far mom likes it here. Not really much to complain about & they have mom up and about everyday like clockwork. Which is really nice to hear. We got her mobile chair delivered & this makes her therapy much easier. It gives her independence and builds strength again. I haven't had much of an issue with her care there just yet, so I can say... it's 3 stars so far. . 4 would be a visit into the facility and 5 would be super excellent feedback from my mom ONCE COVID restrictions are lifted. So there's that. And the fact they allowed us to drop off some signs and flowers and balloons and snacks for her and staff there. Haven't really made it out there in a while. Money has been a bit of an issue for now and so we're trying to get things back in order & home. Once all that's taken cared off, we should making frequent visits. But planning a surprise visit soon. Other than that, staff was very kind, helpful & cooperative when I met them they the glass door. They had nothing but kind words to say about mommy. Oh and they're super cute too because they have BINGO NIGHTS, MOVIE NIGHTS, KARAOKE NIGHTS & SO MICH ACTIVITIES FOR THE PATIENTS... they have a lot of activities to keep them busy. So they're not bored at all. That's the one thing I know for sure! Because they gave away the bookmarks that we dropped off as prizes and the patients were super happy because there was enough for EVERYONE. Everyone WON! Hehehe....

So she says she's ordering a soda and leaves. Then, 40 minutes later she's no where in sight. My cousin is starving so we tell him to press the call button. It take 10 minutes before the nurse responds. She tries the soda and can't clear the tube still. Then she leaves and says she's going to look for another nurse. The other nurse came at about 6:15. She cleared the tube and did my cousins medicine. The second nurse says that the other nurse will be back to clean his throat tube thing- my cousin looked at me and made the sign of the cross. No one should feel like that about the care they're getting. To top it off his mouth piece falls on the ground. Instead of cleaning it before giving it to him, the initial nurse (the one that couldn't clear the tube). just gives it to him and leaves. Who does that?! You wouldn't give your child something to put in its mouth from a hospital ground so why would you give someone who is immune compromised something that fell on the ground. Be assured I'm making a formal complaint and visiting more often. I'm appalled.

The 3rd Floor staff was really nice and super kind to my mother. She enjoyed being around them. My biggest gripe is their office staff. Really super bad communication. I would call and leave messages on their voice mail and they would never return my calls. One day I was so frustrated that when I did finally get to speak to someone in a particular department I had asked why do they not return phone calls when messages are left. I was basically blown off and told I don't know. I was pretty stunned about their shear lack of accountability. They would often tell me that they called but I never answered. I would check my phone and I had zero missed calls from them because they never called. Personally, I can't stand them. It was frustrating. My mother was finally discharged yesterday morning. How I found out was through an email Thursday afternoon at 4:45pm that said "We were not able to get in touch with you but wanted to let you know that your mother will be discharged tomorrow." I was so happy to get her out of there so I would not have to deal with that horrible office staff and grouchy people that open the door. I would give them a big fat 0 stars because of their horrible office staff. My mom said 4 but their food is really a 1. So we went with 3 stars.
