Sooo... If you drive to the back back of Palolo Valley you'll find this very nice care home. Some parts are newly rennovated and it matches the scenic views of the valley. On a sunny day this place is like a scene from a postcard! Two stars because the nursing staff here are incredibly rude. The RN's are incredibly condescending. Especially the day shift RN's. I ask for directions or help finding a specific resident and I've been stared at, as if I was expected to know? I also noticed that they're short-staffed on CNA's (?). I mean most places are but the lack of teamwork I've seen on the floor is alarming. If 1 CNA needs help and goes looking for another CNA, they could be gone for upwards of 20+ minutes. It really puts the care of the residents on the back burner. Many things need to be fixed internally so that all the staff work together to provide good care.

The location was convenient. He was here approximately two weeks. The main reason to going to short-term rehab is if they need more physical therapy and occupational therapy to get stronger to be independent. Sometimes they no longer need to be in the hospital, but may be a fall risk so going to short-term rehab is a good idea. Overall, I think he had a good experience. He did receive PT and OT on most days. I believe it's six days a week. First they started him with a walker, then a cane, and then did trial him on no assist device. I also asked them to make sure he could navigate stairs. He told me the food was pretty good. Staff was attentive. Physical therapist and occupational therapist were personable and provided good therapy. Would definitely recommend this place for short-term rehab.

We have used this facility for elderly family members and friends (for various medical conditions)…read moreover the past few years for their rehabilitation services. Most of the staff have worked here for years and they are a wonderful group of caring and attentive people. I observe them working cohesively together as a team. The RNs in charge get to know each patient personally as well as their conditions, treatments and goals. As a Registered Nurse, I am satisfied and pleased with the care and rehab provided at Hale Ola Kino.

Mauna Lani Rehabilitation Center (MNRC) is a place of respite and care that exceeded my expectations! What I appreciated most about MNRC were the smiles and hellos I received in the hallways, the inclusiveness of the residents in the center's activities along with the caring attention I received from staff, CNA's, Nurses, and the PT team. It feels strange to write a review about a healthcare provider but since this office is so…read moredeserving of praise I decided to write one. The providers and staff here are super competent, professional, gentle, warm and respectful. It's actually a hard feat to maintain all these qualities but they do it well. Emelie at the front desk who kept meticulous track of my billing, my appointments, my pcp referrals, my emails all with a friendly greeting each time. I could overhear her greeting all the patients in the same way, with warmth and professionalism. She knows the ins and outs of insurance, referrals, approvals etc and I appreciated her communication with my pcp's office. My own physical therapist Eric was knowledgeable, professional, beyond competent, kind and compassionate. The other providers in the office that I observed working with their patients were much of the same. What is most impressive is how they strike a balance of friendliness and professionalism. I saw them truly caring for their patients. Physical therapy isn't a quick fix for an issue. But this is a great team to guide you back to health. Be as patient and hard working in your recovery as they are. You'll see results. And if you have issues that maybe don't necessarily warrant a doctors visit or if your doctor won't refer you but you want to see a healthcare provider to guide you about musculoskeletal issues, you can make an appt and pay out of pocket. Of course it's not cheap but to put it in perspective, it costs more to get eyelash extensions. And these providers have years of schooling and experience backing them. I didn't know this but PT isn't only for injuries but can be applied to other issues like migraines and vertigo.

Bert Tada, the PT at Breakthrough Rehab in Kaimuki, is just such a person. He is knowledgeable, courteous, and an expert massage therapist. I obtained an Rx for 8 sessions of PT on my sore and swollen Achilles from a local podiatrist. This is a chronic problem I have been coping with on my own for years, but after a recent flare-up in the wake of an exhausting weekend of tennis, I decided to seek professional help. I am soooo glad I did. After just 3 sessions of PT, I have almost no pain, the swelling has reduced a noticeable amount, and my ankles feel much stronger and more stable. My PT regimen has three basic components: massage, rehab exercise, and ultrasound/laser (more on this in a minute). Bert's massage technique provides just the right amount of stimulation and pressure. It is so soothing and effective that I am already considering paying out-of-pocket for additional massage therapy when my Rx is over. The rehab is a good mix of stretching and strengthening while improving balance. For the final component, Bert gave me the choice of ultrasound and "cold" laser, administered by his friendly helper Jan. I decided to try both (one on each of my first two visits) and then go with the one that seemed more effective. Verdict? Laser. Though far from scientifically verifiable, the laser seemed to provide more benefits in terms of reducing swelling and increasing comfort. But for all I know, ultrasound could be just as effective. Parking is easy in the basement of the building and fully reimbursed. Could not be happier with my Breakthrough Rehab experience.

Transferred from Kaiser Hospital over to Hale Nani for intense OT and PT. Kevin the transporter/…read more driver was absolutely friendly and helpful (5 stars). He warned me of the bumps on the road and any sudden stops-for my safety and comfort. I checked in and was not very impressed by the surroundings ( its not the Hilton or Ritz). The place had a 1970's-80's outer island motel feel- sort of like a low budget vintage vibe. Rehab wing is on the 3rd floor. 2 star The headboard of the bed was termite eaten, hallway littered with plastic rubbish bins and plastic storage drawers. Just very low budget but functional sort of ghetto feel. The scale they put me on could hold a wheel chair and we got weighed together/ handle of scale was broken and hanging awkwardly. Little things like that need fixing or replacing but is never repaired is questionable. 2 star Every bed had a 14 inch personal tv monitor that was connected to the wall hung on a heavy duty hinged armature- that's great. First night I was there the service was out due to high winds. TIP: Download movies onto your IPAD from NETFLIX or AMAZON Prime. Lucky I was prepared but my poor roommate was bored silly. Internet went down 3 out of the 7 days I was there. 2 star The rooms are not private and shared with 1 other person-fortunately my roommate was considerate and we got along well 5 stars. First day I was having a consultation with PT, a lady suddenly took a big dump in my doorway. WTH, therapist quickly closed the curtain. The whole room smelled of feces and the aid wiped it up. That lady took a shower after finishing her dump and went back next door. My roommate said many different people are using our bathroom but she is not sure why? Aid Michelle said the lady nest door is too big to fit her shower and comes over to use ours. OK 1, 2, or 3x but everyday? I do not know her and its unsanitary. They have a big shower down the hall and why is she showering in my room?2nd day same lady is using my toilet again "ugh, ummm, haw, hoo..." all these grunting noises while she is dropping missiles. Told myself to GTFO and ran away into the "dayroom". Waited for her to finish showering and vacate before I could use my room again. Roommate not so fortunate-bedridden and nowhere to go. 0 stars Near the end of my stay here ,there was a theft that happened to one of the residence. That made me question the safety and privacy of this complex. Was supposed to stay longer but didnt feel 100% safe. Was it a nurses aid or a visitor scoping out everything? Hmmmm...Any security cameras to do an investigation? 1 star My nurse was "JAY" friendly, intelligent, kind, and had a sense of humor. 5 stars Nurses aid "Army", "Romano" and "Ikaika" very compassionate and caring aids. 5 stars Dietician "Lauren" made my stay so much better by tweaking the meal plan options and snacks to meet my needs. 5 stars food 3.5 star Doctor Kramer -kind caring saw him twice during my 7 day stay- 5 stars. The physical /occupational therapist: Kevin, Katie, Kim and John are all 5 stars. Kevin asked me how is everything so far? I said the accommodation is low quality but the people are high quality and I rather have it that way than the other way around. Joined the daily activities schedule everyday to keep from going bonkers: 5am Brush teeth/TV news 7am breakfast 9am OT 11am music circle 12pm lunch 130pm Bingo 230 pm crafting or karaoke 330 PT 5pm dinner 630pm Bingo or Keno 7pm snack shower/brush teeth 8pm off to "beddy by" My ideal daily routine -woke early and slept early PT and OT 3 hours a day for 7 days a week. Yes I can say working hard really did pay off100%. Still could speak and had an opinion without being a Karen- ask nicely say PLEASE and THANK YOU will get you far here. Can see if English is your second language or perhaps you dont even have a voice a person may not have there wishes met or receive less than the best care here. Honorable mention: Coral/Jasmine the activities coordinator made my stay really fun. Working dogs paid us a visit and we had a live performance/ concert in the cafeteria-5 stars Music circle scared me straight. Most of the people who participated were catatonic with their fists in a ball. When I saw that you can be darn sure I worked my hand to do stretches -scared me into working all the OT exercises! Thank You Kevin over at Kaiser Moanalua PT team to referring my case to Hale Nani. Did not know this world existed and that opened my eyes. She used to call me at home, to call the front desk, so that they would go and help her to the bathroom. She would press the call button but nobody would come, therefore, she would have accidents in bed. Keep in mind that my mom was 91 and did NOT have to use diapers, but they put her in diapers. I can only imagine how degrading it was for her during her stay. Another cause of concern was only 30 minute visitations were allowed because of Covid. I totally understand this, but your time starts ticking as soon as you sign in. Their elevators are so slow so our visit was only 5 minutes due to the wait for the elevators. We couldn't even visit with her! So sad and depressing. Needless to say, I took her out of this place so that she could live her final weeks at home. Kidding... no but SERIOUS... if you're not one to be patient with these kupunas or sickly folks, then you shouldn't work here. Because these people really need a lot of LOVE, ATTENTION & MOST OF ALL... PATIENCE. A LOT OF PATIENCE LET ME TELL YOU...‍ Yeah... a bit cold but I've had encountered issues prior to her coming here and I'm very concerned if she's being well cared for. Especially because there are NO VISITORS ALLOWED UNLESS ITS DIRE NEEDS OR CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW PERMISSION FOR A FAMILY MEMBER TO VISIT. BASICALLY SAYING... UPDATE REVIEW... So far mom likes it here. Not really much to complain about & they have mom up and about everyday like clockwork. Which is really nice to hear. We got her mobile chair delivered & this makes her therapy much easier. It gives her independence and builds strength again. I haven't had much of an issue with her care there just yet, so I can say... it's 3 stars so far. . 4 would be a visit into the facility and 5 would be super excellent feedback from my mom ONCE COVID restrictions are lifted. So there's that. And the fact they allowed us to drop off some signs and flowers and balloons and snacks for her and staff there. Haven't really made it out there in a while. Money has been a bit of an issue for now and so we're trying to get things back in order & home. Once all that's taken cared off, we should making frequent visits. But planning a surprise visit soon. Other than that, staff was very kind, helpful & cooperative when I met them they the glass door. They had nothing but kind words to say about mommy. Oh and they're super cute too because they have BINGO NIGHTS, MOVIE NIGHTS, KARAOKE NIGHTS & SO MICH ACTIVITIES FOR THE PATIENTS... they have a lot of activities to keep them busy. So they're not bored at all. That's the one thing I know for sure! Because they gave away the bookmarks that we dropped off as prizes and the patients were super happy because there was enough for EVERYONE. Everyone WON! Hehehe....
