The case worker, nurses and those who bathed my mom were excellent. They never rushed her, were always so kind and gentle and she enjoyed their visits and chats. Her nurse (Yun Jin) never made our concerns seem unimportant and always made sure checked our concerns on moms health and condition. They really were calming for me as I felt the nurse was just a call away and would be available if my mom suddenly took a turn for the worse. When I needed surgery, we placed my mom in a private care home and the hospice services followed her. She had a different team, because it was in a different area, but the same great level of care was provided. Because my mom was stable she "Graduated" from hospice and was released to her own doctors. Unfortunately, two months later she passed away. Some things that I had to get used to were: 1) The doctor never visited but was kept well informed via the nurse 2) All blood work, doctor's visits, treatments ended. Eye exams, hearing aid adjustments, ear exams were permitted but very little else as this was comfort care. Any problems were addressed by the nurse. My mom's doctor continued to follow my mom's progress via twice monthly calls with us. It was difficult for our minds to go from a mentality of healing my mom to one of offering her comfort but we did eventually get used to it. After my mom "graduated" from Hospice I realized just how much they had helped my mom and I and what peace and calm they brought to our minds. Impending death of a loved one is difficult and dealing with that day to day realization can be frightening. They helped alleviate that making us feel like we weren't alone on this journey with my mom but we had a great support team standing behind us. Thank you St. Francis Hospice for being such a great team with our family to care for my mom. I would recommend them to anyone needing this kind of care. They are excellent!

Carol at the office to Julia the social worker and Peggy the nurse they all were so top notch. They are caring. They return your calls. The are companionate and attentive. If don't use them you aren't helping your loved one. I will never want anyone else to to go through what we did. St Francis helped make it easier to deal with it.

After grandpa recovered from a mega life event/ illness, I informed grandpa's inpatient medical team that we'd like hospice care with Malama Ola and they quickly assisted us with coordinating care with them. I am VERY GRATEFUL for everyone at Malama Ola for taking EXCEPTIONAL care of grandpa, myself and my family during our short encounter with them. Everyone was truly wonderful. So many people to be thankful for (please forgive me if I don't remember everyone's names, there were MANY phone calls throughout grandpa's care and transition). But thank you to Marche (our patient advocate), Christian (our admitting nurse), Danny (our spiritual counselor who played his lovely guitar for grandpa), Jay (our social worker), Jorge (our nurse aid), and Brad (our LPN). And everyone and anyone who may have checked in on grandpa but I missed. Truly thankful for each and everyone one of you, and for all you do. The team at Malama Ola actively listens to families wishes and also strongly advocates for patient comfort and quality of life during this time of their life. Ultimately, we decided to go with Malama Ola based on their quick response, willingness to answer questions before signing anything, and unique approach to Hospice Care. Our main point of contact was Marchè. She was highly responsive, encouraging, and such a pleasure to work with, considering the reality that we were living in. She followed up with individuals on the team and communicated with our family throughout the process. The one concern I had beforehand was feeling like a "number on a roster." I can honestly say that it didn't seem that way as my concerns and questions were addressed appropriately and in a timely manner. Thank you, Malama Ola, for your support and kindness.

Because of COVID, only family members from the same household could enter the facility, so that meant my cousins and I could not be in my aunt's room. As many would understand, to not be able to hold your loved ones hands or give a hug is perhaps the hardest part about the current pandemic. While we couldn't be in the room, we were directed to the side of the house where we could see and talk to my aunt through a screen window. Though my aunt was not a covid patient, it was comforting to know that the facility had strict rules in place that ensured the safety of all the patients. And given that some hospitals and care homes have had clusters of covid cases, we were grateful that Island Hospice did not. The facility only has five rooms, one patient to a room, so staff are able to give each patient a high level of care. I cannot express enough my family's deepest appreciation for the attentiveness and efforts to ensure my aunt was comfortable, pain free and treated with dignity and respect. Highly recommend!

He is in a semi-private room but there is a drywall divider so it is pretty much like a private room. For his hospice stay, Medicare will cover everything except his room and board, but his HMSA Supplementary Plan will cover that so he will not have to pay anything at all. They have a nurse and nurse's aide here 24/7, and there are only 6 beds, so lack of attention is not an issue. This place is all the way back on 10th Avenue, next to the Palolo Chinese Home, in a converted single-family home. The staff is attentive and friendly, and they go out of their way to offer and provide drinks or snacks to visitors if you want. Because it is important for family and friends to have access to patients, they said they do not have restrictions on visiting hours, so we can visit anytime, as long as we are respectful of other patients. If you needed to place someone in a hospice environment, I would not hesitate to recommend this place.

They were very attentive and caring, yet professional. The home itself was warm and welcoming with a beautiful backyard set-up for visitors to enjoy. While it may not be the most modern home, it is filled with the most important thing...love and compassion. Even though there was a constant flow of family and friends who came to say their final good-byes to my sister, at no time did the staff make us feel like we were intrusive or disruptive. Their care of my sister during her last days and especially after she passed, were phenomenal. They gave us the space and time to grieve, all the while assuring us that they were there if we needed them. My hope and prayer is that no family will ever have to utilize a hospice care, but if they did, I highly recommend Navian Hawaii. My family and I are extremely grateful for the loving care given to my sister.

    Hospice Hawaii has a home in Kailua. The house is a nursing home. It is a one story home with…read morefive bedrooms, three bathrooms, laundry room, kitchen, living room, and family room. The backyard of the hospice house has a small garden area, a patio, and a swimming pool. The home has four nurses rotating 24/7, a housekeeper, and a cook. All staff members work for Hospice Hawaii. The bedrooms are divided into two residential rooms and three respite rooms. The residential rooms are for patients who needs long term care by the nurses. The respite rooms are for patients who are staying for five nights for free (got to give the caregivers a break). After the fifth night it is $100 a day. Each bedroom consist of a hospital bed, a recliner, small dresser, and television. Emergency oxygen tanks are available in each room in case the electric goes out. There are few portable oxygen machines for the patient to use in the family room or the bedroom. Two of the bathrooms are reserved for the patients while the third bathroom is for staff members and visitors. The patient bathroom is equipped with handicap railings near the toilet and the shower. There are commode toilets available for patients who are unable to use the bathroom. The living room is more like a little lobby area with a beverage station for guests, sign in log for visitors and volunteers, as well as a round two seater table. The family room has a couch, a recliner, small table, and a entertainment shelf with books, DVDs, and a television. My pops stayed at the Hospice Hawaii Kailua house for five nights. Hospice Hawaii made transportation available through ABC Transportation with a pickup in Waianae and drop off in Kailua. He arrived there on Tuesday August 29, 2017. After his five nights stay in Kailua then he got transported back to Waianae from Alii Transportation. The nurses that I have met personally like Rolyn and Yvonne are very friendly and outgoing. They joked around with my pops while he was in Kailua. My pops has his own opinions about the other nurses whom I did not meet. Guests are able to visit their loved ones as long as the noise is down. The nursing home is a peaceful environment so the other patients are able to relax and sleep when needed. There was a big difference in weather for my pops to experience. Waianae tends to be hot. Kailua was raining on Tuesday (8/29/2017) while all other days was cooler and comfortable weather. Family members are able to call their loved ones who are staying at the hospice house. Phone calls need to be limited and the nurses normally answers the phone. A loved one may refuse the call especially if he/she is too tired to talk. 52/100

    Follow up review as dad is still in rehab - Nuuanu Hale initiated a Care Plan meeting for dad, me,…read moremy brother and the managers of various areas who are assisting with Dad's rehabilitation- nurses, physical therapist/occupational therapist, diet, activities, and social services. My brother and I were pleasantly surprised to have each manager share their updates of dad and what their goals are to meet his proposed discharge date. Mahalo to Christina, the nurse manager who confirmed the medications he is receiving and asking us the right questions to ensure we're on the same page. She answered all our questions and reassured us that he is doing well and being pleasant to the nursing staff. Yay! Next up was Amrik the PT and OT manager who shared Dad is 94 but listening to the therapists and trying to do what they ask- he has walked 20 feet with a walker and they are giving cues for him to take bigger steps also helping him with proper way to get up out of a chair, sit down, sit on the potty, get up from potty, and encouraging him to keep trying, which he has been doing, much to our surprise and joy. Then there's dear Maka, manager of activities, she works hard to get to know each patient, what their interests are, hobbies, routine and wants to help them stay as close possible to what they enjoy doing at home. She visits Dad every day and when she heard he liked watching westerns and war movies, she got him his own TV since the double rooms share one TV only. She promised us in this meeting she would do it that day and it was there when my brother visited dad yesterday! At Christmas they received a big donation and she delivered all the gifts to each patient! A big mahalo to Jason, the dietary manager who brought us up to date on dad's eating habits which we had worried about and happy to see he was enjoying the food, his weight and although dad doesn't require a a structured diet, Jason still wants to make sure dad is okay with the food. He said there is an ice machine we can use for his Coca Cola and also a soda machine available in break room if he asks the nurse for one when we're not there. (Jennifer, another nurse, had taken the time to call me to say dad was craving one and didn't have change for the machine, so I was able to bring one for him). Jason explained the dietician will do an assessment of dad but we are happy he is eating the food and getting plenty of liquids. He looks great and his color is so good. Social Worker, Nu Timotea, was facilitating this meeting and did an awesome job explaining the next steps for his proposed discharge date. Helpful suggestions and recommendations gave us the baseline we needed to start the phone calls to begin the selection process of where is the safest and most comfortable for dad. I thanked all of them for making it a pleasant experience for dad and how impressed and touched we are with the care he receives as well as what we observe with the other patients. We are there every day at different times so we've met and seen various staff- everyone is cheerful, helpful, patient, gracious and kind. Even when they're super busy it seems they stop to reassure a patient or communicate what will happen next. It brings tears to my eyes what wonderful people they are to help others in need.

    Nothing is more confusing than this place and I've never stepped foot in the building…read more.. First of all I think I checked into the wrong site (St Francis Medical Center) not sure why they have the other one and if anyone visits this place as the reviews re next to nothing for either one so here I go. My initial visit is to Hawaii Diagnostic Radiology Services which says St. Francis Medical Center 2230 Liliha St Suite 106 Okay as soon as I get there I see a parking entrance to the left and immediately went in and parked on the first floor thinking I got the best parking right next to the elevator which has the directory floor that had no notation of HDRS...!? Got in the elevator and went on the 2nd floor...nope still parking and obviously didn't see the part on the directory that says "Take elevator to Level P3" OMG! So I walked around while it heavily rained passed 2226 and 2228 Liliha so the main building must be 2230!?!? Then hallelujah I see a sign that says HDRS so I approached forward and a security at the front asked where I was going and directed me to it which is just to the right of the main entrance. Only to leave when I was done to see there was another parking entrance with walkway directly to the garage hahaha!!! Parking I absolutely agree is very tight and tricky I almost ran into a pole after fixing my car from the last that cost me $300 you know I wasn't thrilled about that, no more anxieties as I don't want to park here though don't know why there's a fee since they all fully validate.     Congratulations. This facility has the worst parking structure in Hawaii. Stalls are narrow,…read moresubstantially all of the stalls are compact stalls, a lot of drivers park over the line, you have less than a foot to open your car door, and directional signs are too sparse to be useful. When you enter the main parking entrance off the Hospital porte cochere, it says visitor parking is limited to levels 1B, 2B, 3A, and 3B. However, there is no signage indicating what level you are on. So when you drive up to the next level, you find out you are now on level 4A. So you need to turn around and drive down. Even when you walk into the main hospital entrance, there are no directional signs to the office you are looking for. For example, when you enter the main entrance, it has a great directory which has a listing for office 104. After looking for office 104 in the main lobby for 5 minutes and getting frustrated, a cleaner asked me what I was looking for and told me office 104 is outside and 50 feet to the left of the main entrance. The facility itself is in excellent condition. However, the signage needs a complete makeover.
