It was a big decision to search for a good home for my elderly parents. For me to have a peace of mind, I needed one that was homey and warm. One that promoted independence and living a full life, and doing it all safely. I also wanted a home where they could both live together in the same room. A BIG ask! That's Ilima at Leihano! Also, the staff are happy there and proud of what they do. Most of them go above and beyond what's expected. My favorite staff member is Valerie Rickard, Resident Relations/Human Resources Director, who is concerned about my concerns and responds quickly and clearly. Also, I appreciated, Orlando, head of bldg and maintenance. With a pleasant attitude, Orlando set up the tv, put up hooks and got us shelving. He even grabbed a Sunday paper that my dad was missing that day! They have fun events and celebrate all occasions in classy way! If ever I was gonna stay at a long-term care facility, this would be where I would want to be. Friendly staff, great amenities and lots of fun things to do. Everyone seams to be enjoying themselves. If you love paying 5-6k a month for you love ones and when you come to visit they treat you like a third class homeless citizens just because of the clothes you wear( New Years cleaning) then this is the perfect place for you elderly family members Can you only imagine the care they give to the in-house patients if they talk to guest with the low amount of respect I was treated with this place must be reminiscent of the asylum in the movie sucker punch. I have also heard they they only staff 1-2 actually RN there and the rest are just unqualified workers who are friends of the workers Also just FYI I was dressed worse when we applied for the room ( and of they where all smiles and so welcoming)but once they had our money I guess the tables turned so just be careful around this two faced people and DON'T FALL FOR THEIR FAKE HOSPITALITY SHOW AND ACT. I recently visited this facility with my grandma and it was beautiful. My grandma is currently doing early research just in case she's no longer able to live at home. We have visited a couple of other facilities on the island, but this one is definitely where she sees herself. The staff is welcoming, the front desk had a sign with my grandma's name when she arrived, the food was tasty because we got to have lunch and try the food, and the residents looked very happy. We left our visit very happy and my grandma stated this is where she wants to be in the future. read more

My Sister and I moved Mom into Ilima at Leihano in May of 2022 when it became apparent that she could no longer take care of herself while living on her own. She has made many friends and the friendly staff has been so attentive to her every need and makes sure that she takes her daily medication properly. She loves participating in the activities like bingo and making crafts and they keep her well fed with scrumptious entrees. The facility is kept spotless and the staff interacts with all residents on a one-on-one basis making her feel like part of the family. I was quite pleased when I recently had a tour of the assisted living facilities at this retirement home. The employees are friendly and the environment is very welcoming. The living areas were big, clean, and organized for convenience and enjoyment. A full and pleasant lifestyle is guaranteed for residents thanks to the excellent variety of amenities and activities offered. this review is long overdue, but on behalf of our family, we just want to thank the entire team at Ilima for welcoming our parents in January of this year and continuing to provide caring support for them. We had checked out several facilities, but this was by far the newest (about 5 years old) so the entire complex is well designed and appointed, especially the spacious 1 BR apartments with full kitchens and walk-in closets and if your're lucky enough to get a ground floor apartment, gate to the backyard of Ilima! There were periods of adjustments moving from a home to a community with regular routines, but Dad and Mom adjusted and love living here. There are many activities from bingo, (their favorite), to bus rides, to walking exercises, to waffle day for grandparent's day and even a big barbecue for 4th of July that was well attended by friends and family alike. For family, Ilima is situated in a very well-designed community in Kapolei, so taking them to run errands is a simple task with everything you need within a small radius from Costco, Wal-mart, and Longs as well as many other food and retail establishments. The drop-off and/or pick-up service for their doctor appointments have been especially helpful to the family. Most of all, it's a place where our parents can live this phase of their lives in well-deserved retirement in a safe and relaxing environment with many social activities to enjoy! My father was one of the first residents to move into this brand new facility. Everything is clean and is of the best quality. They did not cut any corners in construction. The walls are thick and soundproof. The countertops in the bathroom and kitchen are granite. The ceilings are very high and the apartments are large. When I was moving his furniture, the staff lent me a cart and even helped carry heavy items and assemble his bedframe. They mounted two large flat-panel TVs and all of his artwork. EVERYONE on the staff goes way above and beyond what I would expect or even hope for. They all know him by name and they know his food preferences and quirks. There are several daily activities planned. Although my father is not participating very much yet, the staff still goes to his apartment and asks him if he'd like to attend every day. They make him feel important. I get a phone call or text or email at least once a day from someone on the staff with an update on how he's doing or a question about how they can better engage him in activities. Everyone on the staff truly cares and puts forth great effort to make his life as comfortable and happy as possible. And the food....I can't say enough about how good (and beautifully presented) it is. It is truly restaurant quality. There are three chefs, and the wait staff is very helpful and patient. I will post some photos if I can. The menu changes daily and serves great local food and fresh seafood. After having negative experiences with other senior facilities on the island, I did not even think a place like this could exist. There is even an Embassy Suites hotel being built adjacent to the property, so eventually there will be a place to stay on the Ewa side of the island that isn't $500 a night. If I could give this facility ten stars, I would! read more

I can't say enough good things about the Ilima. My aunt lives here, and my family considers this a second home almost, as we are here so often! The building is new and built for seniors to age in place, as well as thrive. They have a pool, activities, fabulous food, and an amazing staff. They have worked with us to help my aunt have food she loves available (chocolate!!!), as well as always able to lend a helping hand to our private caregivers to when they need extra assistance. They help reset the cable, do all the housekeeping, and love my aunts kitty cat like it's their mascot. All in all, if anyone is able to afford putting their loved ones here, it is worth every single penny. It keeps my aunt safe, and gives us peace of mind that she hs everything she needs at her fingertips. read more

We concur with all the very positive reviews of Ilima. We placed mom and dad there a few months ago and they are happy and thriving. ALL the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. These people love their jobs and it shows. The facility is new and bright. We also checked several other places and felt a completely different vibe the minute we got onsite. The rooms are large and very comfortable. If you are considering a place for your elders, get past the idea that it's too far being in Kapolei. It's a beautiful facility and Kapolei has a lot of options for dining and shopping. We now spend one day of our weekend visiting and then trying a new Kapolei restaurant and shopping. read more

Mom has been living at Ilima at Leihano in Kapolei for a little over a year and she just LOVES it!! She feels very safe and comfortable there. The rooms are very spacious and the common areas are always clean and welcoming. Mom always boasts about how clean and neat the housekeeping staff keeps her room. She's amazed by all the friendly staff greeting her and knowing her name and the dining room staff knowing her favorite drinks and snacks. The dining experience is like that of a 5-star restaurant from the daily menu presented to the resident in a leather folder, dining staff personally taking your order and bringing your healthy, delicious, nicely presented meals. The nursing staff is always quick to respond to her "buzzing" no matter what time of day and maintains very accurate accountability of her medicines. Ilima has a very wide variety of activities for the residents. There's something for the residents to do every hour outside of meal time. Such activities include bus excursions from Sandy Beach to Haleiwa to Makaha, arts and crafts, card and board games, movies and live musical entertainment. All the staff is wonderful taking care of grandma! Jennifer Duran has been so wonderful! She has helped in ever step of the process and still checks on grandma, even though she doesn't have to! A year ago, we were apprehensive when we searched for a senior living facility for my mom. We visited several of the P_ _ _ a places, and did not feel comfortable about the living arrangements there. The standard unit was shared by 2 people, had a small shared kitchen, small bedroom, small bathroom, and was not even greeted by staff at the Waikiki facility (when I wheel chaired my mom in to the entry.) Then, we met Mark Tsuda at the Senior Living fair. We felt comfortable talking with Mark and went to visit Ilima at Leihano. Talk about a contrast from our previous visits with other facilities. At the Ilima you get a private studio (for a base unit) with a large bathroom/kitchen/refrigerator. I give 10 stars to the staff. They care for residents like they are family. I can't say enough great things about the Ilima staff after experiencing a year of care for my mom. Next, the food is delicious. On our initial visit to Ilima, we met a resident who told us he and other Ilima residents moved out from the P _ _ _ a because the food tasted like frozen meals. That sold us. When you get older in life, ono food is very important. There are a lot of activities throughout the day. Painting, Zumba, and bingo (a senior favorite) are just a few of the activities. To top it off, there are also weekly outings (to get shave ice from Matsumoto's, scenic drives, etc.), happy hour with pupus/ live Hawaiian music performers on Fridays, shopping trips to the mall, and more. One resident told us living at the Ilima is like living on a cruise ship. Don't just read my review. Go to Ilima at Leihano and experience it. *Tip. If you are looking for a quality assisted living home with great activities for your parents and loved ones, look no further! My mother has dementia and finding the right assisted living home for her was very important for my sister and I. Mark Tsuda, Executive Director, has been instrumental in helping my mother transition into her new home. He and Valerie Rickard, Director of Resident Relations, are so patient and kind to my mom every time she asks to speak to either of them. She often asks the same question and has the same concerns day after day, and they respond as if it was the first time she was sitting in their office. Mark and Valerie know every resident personally and were able to give me and my family information about my mother's daily routine in detail. Additionally, the rest of the staff personally greet my mom and her friends by name. They are also all very patient with my mom, helping her find her room and taking the time to have conversations with her. Some employees that are particularly close to my mother are Maribelle, the head of the nurses station, Chef Royce, Tom (the Restaurant Manager), and Enan Agnes. Lastly, the activities provided for the residents are absolutely amazing! Before my mother moved into Ilima, she would sit at her couch, watch TV and read newspapers. Now, she is always at activities, movies and craft making. She also has a "crew" that she plays cards with after every meal. It is so comforting to know that she is being social with other people everyday. Ilima gives me peace of mind knowing that my mother is being well cared for. read more

I cannot say enough about Ilima at Leihano. This place is sooooo beautiful....like living in a hotel. You have all the amenities like a hotel. The rooms are very nice and spacious. My mom had a studio and she could fit a queen sized bed and a couch and it still had lots of room. The room has lots of cabinet spaces and comes with a full sized refrigerator. The facility also has a swimming pool, washer/dryer, dining room with a menu to chose your meals (and they are delicious), an activity room, even a beauty salon. They also take the residents on van rides! But, the most important part of this place is its top-notch staff. Each and every one of the workers seem to LOVE their job. They are so courteous and helpful to the residents and they acknowledge them by name. This place treats the residents like it was their own family member. They truly care about the well-being and happiness of the residents. I would definitely recommend Ilima at Leihano!! read more

My mother and I visited our aunt who stays at the Ilima in March. My mother stayed with my aunt for a few days as we were on vacation from the mainland. The staff were very friendly, professional. and accommodating. Jodie Cole was exceptionally helpful in making this happen. The food was great and the residence was immaculate. We highly recommend anyone looking for a well run, first rate senior retirement home. My mother is 88-years-old and the staff was very attentive to her and all the residents. My parents have been at Ilima since June 1st. I had to relocate them from Florida and they were reluctant campers. Now, they would tell you they are very happy. The facility is beautiful and clean. The employees are so very helpful and friendly! Whatever help they need is taken care of. The dining room is like eating at a restaurant! Tablecloths, piped in music, servers to wait on them and special holiday meals as well! There are an abundance of activities everyday to include sightseeing tours by the Ilima van.
