Move-in day welcome! They even had a nice welcome basket waiting for them in their apartment!

this review is long overdue, but on behalf of our family, we just want to thank the entire team at Ilima for welcoming our parents in January of this year and continuing to provide caring support for them. We had checked out several facilities, but this was by far the newest (about 5 years old) so the entire complex is well designed and appointed, especially the spacious 1 BR apartments with full kitchens and walk-in closets and if your're lucky enough to get a ground floor apartment, gate to the backyard of Ilima! There were periods of adjustments moving from a home to a community with regular routines, but Dad and Mom adjusted and love living here. There are many activities from bingo, (their favorite), to bus rides, to walking exercises, to waffle day for grandparent's day and even a big barbecue for 4th of July that was well attended by friends and family alike. For family, Ilima is situated in a very well-designed community in Kapolei, so taking them to run errands is a simple task with everything you need within a small radius from Costco, Wal-mart, and Longs as well as many other food and retail establishments. The drop-off and/or pick-up service for their doctor appointments have been especially helpful to the family. Most of all, it's a place where our parents can live this phase of their lives in well-deserved retirement in a safe and relaxing environment with many social activities to enjoy! You won't regret it; put your name on the waiting list now!

My father was one of the first residents to move into this brand new facility. Everything is clean and is of the best quality. They did not cut any corners in construction. The walls are thick and soundproof. The countertops in the bathroom and kitchen are granite. The ceilings are very high and the apartments are large. When I was moving his furniture, the staff lent me a cart and even helped carry heavy items and assemble his bedframe. They mounted two large flat-panel TVs and all of his artwork. EVERYONE on the staff goes way above and beyond what I would expect or even hope for. They all know him by name and they know his food preferences and quirks. There are several daily activities planned. Although my father is not participating very much yet, the staff still goes to his apartment and asks him if he'd like to attend every day. They make him feel important. I get a phone call or text or email at least once a day from someone on the staff with an update on how he's doing or a question about how they can better engage him in activities. Everyone on the staff truly cares and puts forth great effort to make his life as comfortable and happy as possible. And the food....I can't say enough about how good (and beautifully presented) it is. It is truly restaurant quality. There are three chefs, and the wait staff is very helpful and patient. I will post some photos if I can. The menu changes daily and serves great local food and fresh seafood. After having negative experiences with other senior facilities on the island, I did not even think a place like this could exist. There is even an Embassy Suites hotel being built adjacent to the property, so eventually there will be a place to stay on the Ewa side of the island that isn't $500 a night. If I could give this facility ten stars, I would!

In the beginning she didn't get the care she was recommended with staff telling my cousin it was because they were understaffed. It got better but that disturbed me. We brought lunch which my aunt enjoyed tremendously. Apparently the food is bland and tasteless because they must serve healthy food. What we don't like: It is very noisy there which makes conversations difficult with older people. There is the car wash across the street with constant white noise, across the street is a 2 story commercial space and an alarm went off for nearly 1 hour! It was like torture at Guantanamo. They also play music over the loudspeakers in this patio where visitors and residents hang out. A few brought out their personal boom boxes and played music loudly. All I'm saying is hearing comprehension and hearing in general is harder for older people. They often have weakened vocal chords too so shouting and repeating oneself for 1 hour is exhausting. If it wasn't for noise level I'd give it a 4 stars and recommended it warmly for family.

My grandma had stayed in both at different times. Short term was for when she had surgery and needed rehab/after care. The most recent stay, she was in long term. I had been choosing ignorance and avoidance so I really didnt know what that meant. My grandma did have a roommate and it seemed she had been there for quite some time. A word slipped from a conversation with my dad and it was "hospice". I immediately lost it and started looking more into the reviews. I wasn't happy with reading others reviews but it gave me a better idea of what to expect. As Michael mentioned, this facility can cater to all their needs including near end of life *tear*. At that point I probably started my grieving process. Visiting this facility there was always a cloud over my head. There were some things that made it easier knowing she was here. There were trained nurses to cater to her. No smoking allowed. The potential to engage in activities and seeing others. Healthy meals were planned and prepared. So it's not all bad, just the stigma attached I guess. Check in station: table with sanitizer and disposable masks provided. Kiosk to enter your name & phone number. Info is saved for check out and future visits. Daily activities: there is a calendar posted with the daily activities for the month. Times are listed next to the activity and there were multiple activities daily. Karaoke, movie, bracelet making, casino... I wish I could say we enjoyed these activities but unfortunately I could never get gram in the mood to participate. But I appreciated it was an available option. Common area: spacious. Ample seating. Cable TV. Food: patients are able to choose their foods for the week. A menu is sent out and they just circle their choices. I've seen foods like baked chicken, poi, pork & eggplant, Mash potatoes, tea, milk... definitely good food choices. I'm sure there are tiered menus varying by price of meal plan. Unsure if there is a laundry service. As far as I know laundry is done by family members at home and brought back. I can see how this minimizes mix up with the many patients clothing. There is a salon on property. I'll need to dig around in my photos to see if I caught a menu. Unsure of pricing/services offered. Everything I am going to mention is just what I've seen and in no way accusatory... I don't think the facility is able to strap patients to their beds. With that being said, I was told that my grandmother fell out of her bed. I have tried to look around the bed for a call button but could never find one. I've asked my grandmother about it but her memory wasn't the best while she stayed here. Another thing I noticed during my visits was a woman across the hall yelling for help. One instance where a nurse tried to tend to her I did hear a lot of bickering about non sense completely unrelated to the issue she originally complained about. So I'm sure there's a lot of "the boy who cried wolf" cases. With everything that needs to be done with all the patients in the facility I'm sure it's not an easy task to tend to everyone when they call. It just was a bit concerning that I couldn't find a call button and in order to get assistance you'd need to yell out for someone. I believe if you go into the facility with a plan and ensure that the staff is on board with those plans, it could definitely help put family members at ease. In the future hopefully I have a clearer understanding of how to deal with situations like this and I hope others would prepare accordingly as well. There's lots of situations that are out of our hands and almost impossible to prepare for so my view on this facility is going to be neutral. Ultimately the fall did have an impact, but I wouldn't say that was the direct cause. There are areas of improvement, as always. And I hope that they can make some changes for the better. Anyone grieving can place blame on anything but I'm trying not to go down that rabbit hole for my sanity. There's a series of events that all lead up to one point and I'll leave it at that. My grandma did speak kindly about a couple of the nurses that tended to her. One would even bring her drinks and snacks from the vending machine down the hall. I'm sure that makes a world of difference to brighten patients days. I've heard no bad things about this facility and I haven't had any negative experiences myself while visiting.

BUT This review is for our agent, Jay Vea of Locations Hawaii. Let me just start by saying he is so AMAZING. I am not being extra or sugar coating.. he really is! Jay is professional, honest, hard working, pays attention to detail, and everything you need your real estate agent to be. As my husband would say, he is a hustler. Lol. We had connected with Jay about 3 years ago through another agent. Here's our back story summarized: I've dreamed of a single family home for our family to grow in, AND I wanted to make it happen before I turn 30 years old.. which seemed almost impossible in Hawaii. Back in 2018/2019, we planned to buy in 1-2 years but we made it happen in less than 2 months. We found got a pre-approval from our lender, toured a property and made an offer all within 24 hours. 2 months later and we were officially first time home buyers/owners in our very first home, a 3 bedroom townhouse in Kapolei. Some call it crazy, but I say it's all in God's perfect timing. Jay was a fairly new agent that year and had assisted our previous agent/his mentor during our transaction. Fast forward to 2021.. we lived in our townhome for about 2 years. Unfortunately and fortunately for covid, the home values were rising like crazy!!! It was a sellers market and I felt like it was a great opportunity to put our townhome at the time on the market and upgrade to a single home. We NEEDED to take advantage of the low interest rates and crazy market. I was interested in North Park by Gentry, which was one of the of new home builds in Ewa Beach. I knew that we would have to sell our home and use that equity for our next home. If you know anything about Hawaii's real estate world, you'll know how crazy competitive it is. We planned to put in for the North Park lottery, but knew we would be 1 of possibly 150-200 applicants, and each month they would lottery out a mere 4-5 homes. The good thing about the lottery homes were that they were set in price, depending on model. Our Plan B was to buy a home outside of the North Park build. We were well aware that we would have to over bid and compete against everyone else. Jay was very thorough in explaining out options and gave his expertise opinion in which way we should move forward. He always told us that ultimately, decisions are up to us and it is for our future. I never felt overly pressured, which was great. We ended up selling our townhome (making about $150k in profit from owning it for 2 years) and then offering for few homes in Kapolei (not North Park), and one of offers was accepted. Jay worked alongside our loan officer Matt Casamina from House of Finance, and they all made it happen for us. They went above and beyond to make our home buying process went quickly and without a hitch. Jay did the whole 9 yards and then some. From preparing our townhome to put on the market, going over offers, necessary paper work, signing, touring North Park, touring other homes, late night and early morning phone calls, zoom meetings and everything in between. Jay was there for us and that meant everything to me. Jay really knows what he's doing. He was very thorough, communicated well, and made sure we had all our sh*t together, and our transactions were on point. I won't say it was perfect, and there were many times I had doubts, but Jay reassured me along the way. Jay communicated really well, he was available or always got back to me in a timely manner. He arranged our home inspection, termite inspection, document signing, final walk through, and finally delivery of keys. Jay maintained communication with us throughout the process, day after day, month after month. One of my favorite things is that he has a vibrant personality but is also down to earth and relatable. During our time spent together on the phone, emails, touring homes and everything in between, we built a friendship that will last a lifetime. I am forever thankful we ended up with Jay as our real estate agent. I recommend him to my family and friends looking to buy or sell a property in Hawaii. Currently, I am so happy with our home and I think I am good and won't need to buy or sell a home for the next couple of years or so.. maybe? LOL. But I will definitely call him if/when I ever want to sell/upgrade or buy an investment property. Jay is like family now and will always be my go to real estate agent. He uses my family as a testament to show how it is possible for young people to buy their own home in Hawaii and building wealth through real estate is the way to do it.

There is a clear pattern of inconsistency, favoritism, and lack of accountability. Expectations are not applied evenly, and decisions often appear biased rather than based on performance or professionalism. This creates an environment that feels disorganized and, at times, unfair. More importantly, there is a noticeable gap in leadership. Effective supervisors should provide clear communication, support their staff, and handle concerns with professionalism. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. Questions are often dismissed, feedback is not handled constructively, and there is little effort to ensure a cohesive or respectful workplace. I strongly encourage upper management to take a closer look at how this department is being run. With the right leadership, this could be a much more productive and positive environment--but as it stands, the supervision is a major issue.
