We called and brought in our painting. They had a wide selection but Heather was very helpful and guided us to a good choice. When we picked up our newly framed art, we were happy with the work. The other person that I dealt with was AWFUL and incompetent and a poor representative for this company. After dealing with this person, I was willing to walk away from them and let them keep my money as long as they returned my artwork. I don't normally leave negative reviews, but this has been bugging me since it happened. I recently won an art piece at auction and I needed to get it framed, I found The Frame Store, was impressed with their reviews and went to their website which I signed up to their mailing list for a 50% off coupon. When I went to The Frame Store with my newly won art piece, the quoted price was over $1100. That was with the "50% discount" - I took it to Allan Jeffries Framing and had it framed for almost half the price. Elle at the Hermosa Beach location was very lovely and nice to deal with, so this review is definitely not a reflection on her. But rather this business's dishonest promotion. If you're going to give a customer a 50% off coupon the price shouldn't be almost double the price of the competition. I'm not the first person to leave a negative review for them for this reason, if they want to price themselves significantly higher than their competition, that's their call, but don't mislead customers on their website with a "110% low Price Guarantee" and a 50% off discount that's a total lie. read more

So I went into The FrameStore with a picture of a large print I wanted a mat for. I wanted a color that matched the colors in the print. Now being colorblind I was totally lost. Upon entering the store, the lone worker was on the phone. I could only guess she was with a customer. So I set my photos (2 individually wrapped in plastic w/cardboard for protection) on the counter and took a look around. After several minutes, I could hear a lot of rattling at the back door, so I went back and took a look. There was an older woman (70's?) trying to carry in a canvas work. I held the door for her and followed her back into the shop. The worker at the counter just finished her call and asked if we were together (No). Then she asked the woman if she was 'wrong name' who called yesterday. After a few wrong attempts and finally working out the name, the worker turns to me and says, "She has one item and you have a 'Pile' of stuff, so do you mind if I help her first?". I said, "I don't mind, I'll take my pile somewhere else" and left. This was my first time here and I don't know how things work? 1. Older people first? 2. Appointments first? 3. Less items first? Could I have said, "Yes I mind, I've been waiting almost 10 minutes for assistance". And put more of a demand that I was there first? Sure. But with no real acknowledgement I was there, a phone call that sounded more like rainy afternoon banter with a friend and not asking me first what I needed to begin with. I didn't feel there was any point in doing business at a place that shows little interest finding out ones needs first before assuming. read more

I bought a coupon on the internet to The Framestore, $35 for $100 worth of framing. I wanted to frame a very small 8.5 x 11" poster. Super simple poster backing, super simple frame, and a black and gold mat. Estimated price... $200!! And that was after the coupon was applied. Disheartened that I definitely wasn't getting this little poster framed, I tried to see how much it would cost for just the backing (i.e. an 8.5 x 11" size piece of posterboard). $135 dollars. Unless that posterboard had a winning lottery ticket hidden inside it, it seems like by having a $100 coupon to the store, the store just added $100 to all their prices. I ended up giving up on using the coupon and accepted the loss of $35. I could get a piece of 8.5x11" posterboard at Target (in the same parking lot) for .50 cents. read more

Over the years, I have had my artwork framed at many different types of stores - from the low-end at Michael's to the high-end at specialty frame shops. The FrameStore in Manhattan Beach is the MOST honest framing store that I have EVER dealt with. I have had about 8 pieces framed there over the past few months and all of the work has been done meticulously and it has been delivered to me either when promised or sometimes even before! Jason in particular is a fabulous salesperson: he knows his stuff and he works with you to give you the best price. I will never take my artwork anywhere else: the FrameStore in Manhattan Beach is reliable, detailed, and fantastic. You'll be hard-pressed to find better customer service anywhere else. read more

Last weekend, I went to get a valuable, inherited ink brush painting framed. Translation: I found a painting in my house and thought, "hey, I should frame this." After a diligent search, I finally found a framing store that seemed appropriate for my needs. The Framestore. Translation: The Framestore was advertising a 50% off coupon on the internet. I went in and explained that I wanted to know about my options, especially pricing options. Translation: If it's over sixty dollars, I'm leaving. The salesman was impressed with the caliber of the painting but explained that he was concerned about aging. He told me that I should opt for museum quality glass. Translation: My painting was a piece of crap. But a piece of crap that I should protect. He then told me about the high quality of their products, but that quality comes at a price. Translation: I left. They really shouldn't advertise on their website that nobody beats their prices. And the 50% coupon comes with an awful lot of fine print. Overall I was impressed with the service of the staff and the craftsmanship of the frames. They certainly offered the highest in quality. Unfortunately I was looking for the lowest in price. Translation: I felt duped. So I went to Aaron's Brothers. read more

I would give the staff 5 stars - they were helpful, creative and friendly. They did a terrific job finding the perfect combination to enhance the artwork. The Actual framing itself I would give 2 stars - the back was taped (Instead of papered like most quality framers). There is also a bulge where the backing board does not sit flush with the frame, but protrudes - giving the piece an amateurish feel. As for cost - its a joke. I had a 50% off coupon - so I thought I would get good price. Instead it seems like they simply doubled the price, and then took 50% off. The retail cost of the frame and labor was over 1k. After the coupon and other incentives it was down in the $500 range (My guess is the frame should have been in the $600 range before the coupon). Overall helpful staff, poor workmanship and gimmicky prices. I will not be going back. read more
