Michigan Screen & Window

I had Michigan Screen & Window do a number of door and window replacements at my house. I was very…read moreimpressed with their attention to detail, cleanliness, and well executed installations. I had a very old door that we wanted to preserve, but add a deadbolt to. They came up with a really clever solution to make it work. I will definitely hire them again this summer to install a larger window in my attic!

When we initially called the company, we explained that we would be using a renovation loan to fund the project and went into detail how said loan worked with payment. We were assured that it was ok, thus we scheduled an estimate. We had a limited amount of days to get the quote in to our lender, and was upfront about that. We were told by the estimator that we would have the quote either later that day or the next. We ended up having to hound the company for the quote and it took a week to receive, thus delaying our close. It was like pulling teeth receiving information from this company. The worst part was when it came time for us to receive the clear to close. Our bank sent Michigan Screen & Window Repair the agreement, and on the third business day they still hadn't sent the agreement back. With renovation loans, you need a signed agreement in order to receive the funds for the project. After many calls, we learned that they REFUSED to sign the agreement because they needed the deposit first. Why it took 3 business days to tell us this is beyond us. We then said we could write a personal check so that we could get the agreement signed. Once the bank cuts them the check, they could just reimburse us. They said NO and would only return the deposit check to the bank. At this point we had our mortgage officer call them to try to explain better and they wouldn't budge. They even told our mortgage officer that they would have to send the agreement to their attorney first to review "and this would add time and money to our quote". Our bank has never had this issue with any contractor before, and we do not have these issues with our other two separate contracting projects. The phone call ended with Michele (their office manager) telling us that we would be best going with a different company. We were supposed to get the clear to close on our house today, and instead we are scrambling to find a whole new contractor. What this company has done is completely unforgivable and unprofessional and WILL be reported to the BBB for how they handle business. It should have been communicated to us from the beginning that they cannot accommodate renovation loans and time frames, especially since that was the premise of our first conversation with them. Do NOT use this company for your screen or window needs. You will regret it.

In October of 2023 I called HomePro of West Michigan to schedule a consultation on updating our…read moresmall bathroom. The initial call was strange, honestly. The person I spoke to didn't seem like they knew what they were doing, but we managed to get a time set up and I got an email confirmation. On the day of the consultation no one arrived. My wife called them to ask what was going on and they did not have our appointment on their schedule. Not only that but the name on the email was apparently from someone who no longer works there. Again, very strange. However, this person did set up a time and was able to set up a time with Cody. Cody came on time and did a quick inspection of the room and set up more time on another day to show us options. He was great, he knew what he was talking about and gave us informed advice. We agreed on a plan set up a payment, agreed to have a yard sign put up, and write a on online review, hence this. I was informed I would get a call once the materials were in to schedule a date for installation. A few weeks pass and I get that call while I'm working. I try calling back and end up playing phone tag, which is something that happens, I get that. But I do get in contact with someone and try to schedule a date that would fit in my schedule and was told to try calling back later, being given the impression that these are quick turnaround times. - This will come into play later because it's hard for a customer who has to, you know, schedule time off of work. So, after some more phone tag my wife was able to get in contact with this person again and schedules it for January 15, and to expect arrival between 8 and 10M. I procure the time off of work and we spend the weekend cleaning up the space as best we can so it is as seamless as possible for them to do the work. That weekend also had a pretty intense snowstorm, so I made sure to keep our property shoveled and salted. On January 15th I was up at 6AM to shovel and salt so they have a safe parking and walking path. At 8:00 we begin waiting. 9:00 passes, then 10:00. At 10:30 we call again only to be informed that the appointment was never added to their calendar. My wife and I both had a thousand-yard stare at this point. I think we deserve some kind of award for not vocalizing our frustration then and there. To top it off they already started another project, but luckily, they could schedule for the following week, in other words, I needed to request more time off of work for this. Plus, based on the previous conversations, seemed to have to do it on their timeline or call back later. The consultation was great, but it really seems as though scheduling an appointment more than a couple of days out is something this business struggles with. When the day finally arrived, I welcomed McKennen and Charlie into my home and I went over everything with them Both of them were absolute professionals and not only did they do a fantastic job with their work, they were great to chat with too. It was a two-day process and they warned me that the first day would be loud, and it was. The job they did was immaculate, it gave our small bathroom actual useable space. The whole reason we started our bathroom project was because of a leak in the sink, and they took care of that and installed our new vanity. They even put up a new medicine cabinet. The three people we interacted with the most (Codi, McKennen, and Charlie), to say they went above and beyond would be an understatement. Scheduling difficulties aside, I am more than pleased with the work that was done and would not only recommend them for service and future work, but I will look to HomePro of West Michigan if we need more updates to our home. It was a long build up to completion, and in the end it was worth it.

Brett Reighard came to our home this morning and made a very convincing sales presentation. We…read moreespecially liked the way he addressed our concerns and covered all aspects of a major purchase. Mr. Reighard sold us on the quality and beauty of the door we were considering and although I had not planned to make a purchase today we did buy the Pella door. We are replacing a Pella door that has seen 30 years of hard use. The price was almost half of what I was quoted by a major competitor we think it's an outstanding value.

I am not a person who normally complains a lot, but our experience with Pella was infuriating…read more They sold us 5 new windows and aluminum wrap on those and 3 existing windows. The installers were nice, but they did an incredibly shoddy job on the wrap, with pieces buckling and hanging long past the edges and/or partially split. Each of the 8 wraps had issues, many had multiple issues, and some were large enough that you could see it from a significant distance. We pointed it out to the sub and they tried to claim it was supposed to be like that and would let the water run off, which even if it was true wouldn't make sense since they had a couple that didn't stick out on one side! We are getting our siding done and the measurer for that project happened to come the next day and confirmed it was poorly done and would prevent them from installing the new J channels flush to the windows. The person I spoke to at Pella later and the person the subcontract managing the install both saw pictures and at least acknowledged it was badly done. The Pella measurer did a lead test and told me it was negative. I thought that was surprising since our house was built in 1941, and told him so, but figured it was possible. When the sub came to do the install they had a positive test and said they would do lead safe practices, but that didn't happen - they did nothing to contain the risk of dust entering the inside of our house - no plastic, but they later lied and claimed they did to Pella. They even told Pella that they put up a lead hazard sign, which is also a total lie and was easy enough for us to get confirmation from our neighbors, other contractors doing separate work on our house, and my own eyes, as I was present for some of the work. The measurer also did a poor job as they had to add stops on some of the windows to plug the gaps in the difference in the size from the order. Pella originally sold us new basement windows only for the measurer to come out later and say the salesperson never should have sold us them and installation wasn't possible. So we had to redo that contract and find a new company to do the basement windows. We went with Pella, knowing we were paying more than we would with other contractors who even install Pella windows themselves, because we expected quality service. I got a call from the person whom Pella subcontracts managing the install and she was nice but wanted to have the same subcontractor come out to redo the work. I was hesitant given the initial shoddy quality but agreed. I asked about the lead and she explained that wasn't her area but said she would have a manager at Pella call me (I guess they weren't going to?). I got a call from Mike Nelson at Pella, who never apologized and just said they would make it right by having the people come out to redo it. When I asked about the lead he said the installers indicated they followed lead safe practices, including putting up plastic and a lead hazard sign. At that point I got upset because I knew it was a bold faced lie. I just want my money back on the wraps and get someone else to do the work because I do not trust those subcontractors. Supposedly I will hear back by the end of the next business day from someone else about refunds (I was told I was not allowed to have their number myself) but my experience so far indicates Pella will refuse to take responsibility.
