Fralo's is my favorite place for pizza in San Antonio! The setting is great, the atmosphere is fun, and the food is superb. We love their baked chevre with olive tapenade as a starter. We've tried many variations of pizza toppings here and they have all been good. The have excellent sliced meatballs with a delicate texture and perfect seasoning, but my favorite pizza is probably the Lorfa's Five. The salads are great and enough to share--especially if you are getting pizza too. We bring most of our out of town visitors to Fralo's and they always seem impressed. It's fun to BYOB, although the corking fee is a little high so we usually don't. All in all, this place is worth paying a little more for great ingredients and a fun South Texas atmosphere. read more

My visit to Fralo's was on a whim with some friends, we had nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon and were hungry. Wish we had known it was BYOB, our trip might have been better. It wasn't very busy when we arrived and were seated right away, with 100 plus degree weather, who wants to sit outside? We were quickly re-seated inside and our order was taken. I remember reading their disclaimer at the top of their menu that indicates their wait times may be longer then most places. I must say though, the food came out relatively fast. The pizza was alright, I'm more of a deep dish fan myself but I can definitely see what the hype is about. I was satisfied with our meal and the service was alright. The only reason I am giving it 3 stars is because I don't think it was good enough for me to drive back out there later on when I have a hankering for some pizza. 3.5 stars They have lots of unique pizza toppings here and they give you the freedom to mix and match and try a bunch! There's an option to get a sampler pizza where each fourth of it is a different specialty pizza. I think it's just a few bucks more than the regular price of a specialty pizza ($26ish?). Grant's Pear Pizza: One of my faves. Just the right amount of pear to mix things up! Torino: Sounded good but kinda just tasted like a regular pizza from anywhere eles. A little too salty for my taste. Nutty Chicken: Another winner! All the flavors in this one melted together well. Duck Sausage: This one had jalapeno seeds in it, which were so overpowering that it ruined the taste.. But if you're meticulous enough to pick them all out, it's actually good. I still think I like Grimaldi's the most out of all the pizza places I've been to in SA, but with all the unique toppings here, it is definitely a close second! Overall, the prices could be lower. $26 is kind of a lot for a pizza that feeds 2. The crust could use a little work though -- it was thin, hard, and too crunchy for my taste. Fralo's really knows how to make a good pizza. This place has an amazing atmosphere with good live music almost every night. Stop by early as this place tends to get packed quickly. They have a very large selection of wine and gourmet pizzas I've never heard (some are great for vegan lovers). The wait staff is awesome. Making small talk and offering us samples before we try was something I've never seen before. The one only problem I have with this place is that is gets packed and there is a very long wait but it really makes up for it in quality food and quality service. They also deliver outside of the 1604 loop so that makes it my ideal delivery spot as well. read more

The pizza here is decent with plenty of selections. We started with the fried zucchini served with a basil aioli sauce on the side for dipping. It was simple, and the vegetables were fried perfectly. The down side was the patrons who brought their children let them run wild through the outdoor seating area, making it extremely distracting and they also let their kids jump off of tables and no one said anything that even worked there. I realize if we wanted a more quiet atmosphere an indoor venue may have been more appropriate, however we should still expect to eat and not have wild kids running alongside our table the entire time. Pizza was good, crust was thin, could have been a tad crispier but pretty good none the less. If you go here you can also BYOB for 5 bucks which can come in handy. Been here twice; it's a good chill place with okay customer service (1st time great, 2d not as much) just not sold on the pizza ($24) or salads ($8). Ordered the "traditional" pizza and it was lacking flavor "sauce" and was a bit greasy. The Greek and traditional salads were okay; not a fan of little toppings and weltered lettuce. Inside seating is about as hot as outdoor seating, I'd go with outdoor if theres a breeze. I'll prob go again but just for the entertainment or because someone wants to go. read more

I am a big fan of pizza: Chicago, New York etc. In fact, pizza is like sex. Even the bad ones are good. Fralo's Art of Pizza is a brick oven style pizzeria (in other words--thin and crispy). Their have a wide selection of exotic flavors and ingredients available. The only issue was the price is on the extreme. They have wine and beer available, in case you forgot the cooler. By the way, they charge fee if you bring your own drinks. Live music and an outdoor environment makes the meal. Beware of groups greater than 6 as the tables are fixed and sized for 4. Service was a bit slow, but manageable. Bring your wallet and enjoy. read more

I've lived here in San Antonio for 5 years and Fralo's has long been one of our favorite places to go and get pizza. They are all made fresh on hand-tossed dough. Appetizers are incredible, the goat cheese one is my favorite! They have many non-traditional signature pizza's, I love the classic Traditional, but my husband can not turn down the Spanako, they are accomadating and will make a pizza half and half for you. The single feature that really makes this place stand out from just another good pizza place is the location and atmosphere. They are located just outside the city and have wonderful outdoor dining. You definitely want to go on an evening where you can sit outside, it's kind of dark and small inside. They have live entertainment several nights a week also for their outdoor diners. This is also one of the few places you can still bring your dog to eat, we have a lovely calm dog who is always so sad to be left behind when my husband and I have worked all day and then decide to go out to dinner also. The staff is super friendly and professional. They are willing to go above and beyond, I once thought I lost a ring there and went back the next day and a waitress was down on her knees with me looking through the rocks for my ring. read more

After our initial visit to Fralo's where we experienced bad service, we decided to give it another chance a few months later... The staff problems had been fixed at that point. The food was always really good and we enjoyed going with friends and being able to bring our own wine! We enjoyed going back here several times while we lived in San Antonio. This service is awful I sat outside for an hour for a pizza keep in mind that is not the most time consuming entree to make as well as a calamari that we orders 15 before our initial pizza order. There are six parties that should be easily served but no the waiters (2) turn a blind eye to hungry patrons and don't bother to refill drinks. Ate at Fralo's this evening after a long drive from New Orleans. Was headed for Rudy's, but this place caught my eye and I doubled back. Am so very glad that I did. Initially just ordered a salad and a glass of house wine, but the GM talked me into ordering the Greg's Pizza (his namesake, I believe) in a personal size which was not on menu. It was quite literally one of the best pizzas that I have ever eaten. I am not the type to take pictures of my food on my phone, but I did. Charming outdoor seating, wine, delicious food. Wow, just wow! We came here last night for my mother in laws birthday after it being highly recommended. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We came in as a party of 8, which would likely end up being a pretty expensive meal. We ordered close to when we sat down. We ordered 2 pizzas, a calzone, salad, and 2 kids spaghetti with meatballs. We got the salad about 10 minutes after we ordered. Then we waited about 40 min, still no food. I snagged the waiter (who never even came over to check on us) and asked him to check on the pizza. He came back and said it would be another 10 mins and that they are out of meatballs, so now 50 min after we ordered. He came back about 5 minutes later and said by the way we ran out of pasta! Mind you I have a 6 and a 9 year old who are STARVING!!! I told him we just needed to cancel the order and we are leaving. Our waiter said "ok no worries". Really?????? We have been sitting here over an hour and u said okay no worries! Nope! I asked to speak to a manager. Out comes George about 7 minutes later! George could have cared less!!!!! Literally had nothing to say but the kitchen was busy! Umm nope! Tables were getting served left and right, including a table of about 12 people! All served before us! Never will I EVER be back and I will let everyone know the lack of service that we received! I think the WORST part is that the waiter didn't care and the manager didn't care! The tomatoe sauce is unique and just delicious, the fresh mozzarella is unvelievable, and their crust makes it just the perfect pizza! Always served hot and full of amazing flavor!!! They always have a multitude of pizza types to choose from, and every one I have tried is perfect! The owners like to suggest new inventions where they chose what is in season at the time, and it never fails....DELICIOUS!!! You say tomato, I say toMAHto. You say potato, I say poTAHto. You say Fralo, I say FrAHlo. However you say it, I say, it's good pizza. Fralo's has been creating pizza buzz in Leon Springs for a few years now, rivaling the buzz that Rudy's BBQ has long monopolized on that little stretch of low-lying road. I went there recetly for the first time, armed with a gift certificate, my four children, and my aunt. The staff was minimal over the lunchhour, and we learned that it is at dinnertime that you can hardly find a table. In laid-back Hill Country style, they eventually took our order, but it was with a hearty friendliness that made me feel like I had been there a dozen times over. We decided to try several items, although one pizza would have easily served two adults and four Munchkins. I ordered off of the Specialty menu - a barbeque chicken pizza. It wasn't an easy, choice, though, because there were some great, artistic choices. I was intrigued by the "Spanako" - a Greek-sounding pizza that included lamb, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, and Feta Cheese. Their "cheese" pizza was quite gourmet, too - it featured a blend of mozzarella, provolone, feta, parmasean, and gorgonzola. My children, being normal kids, weren't so high-falutin'. And, being normal, they argued over what to order. Cheese or pepperoni. Thankfully, Fralo's averted World War III by letting me order a half cheese/half pepperoni pizza. We might want to ship them to the United Nations. My aunt, always healthy, (save for the occasional relapse into a chocolate addiction that we share), chose the Margherita Pizza with cheese, spinach, and basil - on wheat crust. And, Texans, please understand that despite the homophonic relationship to our favorite tequila drink, a Margherita pizza gets its roots in Italy. It was named for Queen Margherita, and decorated in the colors of the flag of Italy - red, white, and green. It took nearly half an hour for the pizzas to come out, but it was well-worth the wait. One bite, and I knew that I was in Pizza Heaven. Halfway through our meal, a guy came out with a place of pizza rolls. We visited with him for awhile, and learned that he was from Austin. He was bringing his artsy Austin vibe with him and was trying to add his creations to the menu. He wanted our opinion on what he'd whipped up - pizza rolls with sausage, pepperoni, and cheese. I don't know what else he added to it, but it was very savory. When we hinted that we wouldn't be opposed to a second tasting, he happily brought us another batch. He told us about the variations that he was trying, and my aunt gave him advice on a vegetarian possibility. We ordered plenty with the intention of leftovers. Three slices and two pizza rolls later, I still had a little bit left to take home. Hey, I'm a nursing mom, and I need my calories! Fralo's isn't cheap - for that, go to the Domino's that is just down the street. But, if you're looking for great atmosphere, live music in the evening, creative pizza, and a great time, stick with Fralo's. You'll be back, and you won't care how it's pronounced. read more

This is a wonderful, family oriented restaurant with superb, outdoor atmosphere. The picnic tables, silversmith of clientele, and live music performances keep things light and friendly. The outdoor "air conditioning" was an added bonus. I've passed this place several times since my parents live in an adjacent neighborhood, but this was my first time eating there. Don't be put off by the packed parking lot; there's plenty of dining space. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient, and the waitress -- who was catering to multiple tables -- didn't miss a beat with us. Wine-by-the-glass is a bit high, but offset by very reasonable prices for a bottle. The pizza has several options for the crust and toppings, which pleases traditionalists and iconoclasts alike. We opted to share two Greek salads, one pizza (regular crust with traditional toppings) and a bottle of wine (a really good Malbec that was a tad too warm) among the four of us. The salad was ok, but hat's off to the dressing. Really tasty. The pizza arrived rather quickly (or it seemed that way since we were having such a nice time) and it too was tasty. Good balance of ingredients and sauce. The crust wasn't really all that crispy, but the dough certainly wasn't "doughy" or chewy. All ingredients tasted fresh and there was no greasy residue remaining. Pretty impressive. All-in-all, I would return here. Yeah, I've had better pizza, but I don't think I've had pizza in a better environment. For the total experience, Fralo's earns four stars from me. It took us a long time to finally try this place even though we pass by all the time. It has a very casual and comfortable atmosphere with live music and outdoor seating. BYOB is definitely a plus but we ordered a pretty good bottle of Chardonnay off of the wine list for $22. We tried the Formaggio appetizer ($8) on the waiter's recommendation, which was wonderful. It came out sizzling hot and who doesn't love hot goat cheese?! We also tried the Traditional ($25) and Big Alan's BBQ ($24) pizzas. They were both delicious with crispy crust at the perfect thickness. I have no complaints here. This is definitely a enjoyable place to relax, socialize and eat good food. Get here early, it gets rather crowded after 7pm and people seem to linger at their tables. read more

The food is great so its very frustrating when the last 3 out of 4 times I've ordered to go they can't get it right! The first time they took our order they took the whole order over the phone and didn't even have an order for us when we went to pick it up, the second time they gave us the completely wrong pizza and the third time they forgot the pepperoni and proceeded to put a bunch of cold pepperoni onto the already cooked pizza without offering to remake or heat it up. (The staff was not apologetic and were laughing about it in front of me) It's very frustrating because I love their food but dont understand why the person taking the order can not get it right! I just called about 15 minutes ago to ask if they were currently doing delivery. I was told "yes" and asked how late they were open. I was told "10 pm". I said I would have to call back to order. Within 5 minutes and calling back we were told we could no longer do delivery. The reason they gave was that the delivery driver was no longer there. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was no manager on premise. Asked for the managers name and was told "Francisco." Wasn't given any further help or information. It just would have been nice to have been told that if I needed delivery I needed to place the order immediately. And the fact that there's no manager on duty is frustrating. read more

Delicious pizza with a hip outdoor seating area to accompany is a recipe for a great time and one that Fralo's offers daily. The pizza is more on the gourmet side, but with large portions to fill it's guests up. Live music and the newly opened Bar 301 next door make this area a perfect hangout spot. Prices are a little higher in this part of town, but the area is growing rapidly and Fralo's will definitely enjoy a new wave of customers as development continues on the north side of SA. read more

Brought my family from out-of-state last night for a party of 11. I was told it may be a long wait and wasn't guaranteed a table - "kitchen may close before table is ready." My family and I waited in the parking lot and decided to order in case table wasn't ready. We were called about 25 minutes later, but when I mentioned our order, was told we couldn't eat in per "policy." I asked if they could make an exception since we intended to dine-in and were waiting. Family and I stood there unable to sit, then the manager approached us saying they'd allow a one time exception because "people tend to stiff the waiting staff." Unfortunately, it became awkward, and our waiter seemed to rush us out. Half way through our meal he said we needed to be checked out and pay, and he never came back. We still tipped over 20% btw. Don't get CONNOR. We ALWAYS have amazing service but this time it was so bad. Our server was rude, took forever with the food, drinks, check, everything. And never talked to us other than ordering. We had to get up for water, then I had to ask a busboy for the check. It was odd. We weren't even like crazy guests. His name was Connor.
