We had our daughter's 16th birthday party at Fralos November 2021. George was our point of contact from beginning to end. He was fantastic-George made sure we had everything we needed to accommodate our party of 40. The owner even allowed us to set up a party tent at the last minute due to a cool front that came in over night. They had more than enough space to seat everyone comfortably. The live music was the cherry on top! Most of our guests are not from around here, they especially enjoyed the entertainment and ambiance. I would definitely recommend Fralos for any gathering large or small. They have a friendly and organized team. read more

My son keeps late hours and he's on gluten awareness diet so he got a quinoa crust pizza. His pizza was delivered in a very fast fashion with piping hot ingredients. I've driven around this area plenty of times since moving in on 8-23. I don't know where the place is but the sign is posted at BOERNE Stage exit. I'm just gonna need to use delivery for my next pizza but I'm definitely getting more from here...the traffic around here reflects that this is a booming area and you may as well get delivery because fighting traffic is insane! I was completely underwhelmed with Fralo's. Our visit was off to a rocky start after we attempted to order the appetizer special that was advertised on the placard only to be informed it was from the summer (we went in January). Unfortunately for them, it was still being promoted on half the tables. This set the bar for the service, and it was slow and bungled for the rest of our evening. However, I held out with high hopes the pizza would make up for the sub par service... Nope. The pizza (which was wrong the first time they delivered it) was just OK. The sauce was pretty tasty, but the crust was bland and the toppings didn't work. How you mess up toppings for a margherita , I'm not totally sure. Oh, and it was COLD. We were only one of four tables dining, and they couldn't deliver our pizza in time for us to enjoy it hot. To end on a good note, the fried zucchini was delicious. So I guess if I'm coerced into heading back here, I'll stick with that. read more

Fralo's is a cute little pizza joint up north on I-10. It's actually closer to us than some of the stuff downtown, and it's nice for a change of scenery. It's pretty easy to get to, and there's a big sign telling you where to go. Although we went on a chilly evening and Fralo's had already put up their "tent" around the patio, I can see how this place would be a really awesome hang out for the nice nights in SA. The patio is large and has picnic style benches, and there were lots of families and people hanging out. They have a pretty good happy hour if I remember correctly, and a decent list of beers on tap. Of course, you should come here for the pizza. We tried the "pretzel coated mozzarella" which were your basic cheese sticks; I didn't taste much pretzel. Nothing wrong with cheese sticks, but not great for a starter when your meal is PIZZA. I wish I would've tried a salad! The pizza was delicious, though. The sampler pizza is where it's at because you get to try four different kinds of their specialty pizzas. We really liked the pizza with the potatoes on it (can't remember what it's called) and my husband liked the one with sausage. The pizza was not too thick, but had a good crust. Next time I'll try a build your own, I think! We also tried the nutella dessert, which was pretty good. It was a bit dry for my liking, but they served it with a delicious almond-y (I think?) whipped cream that was just perfect. Overall, I think this is a solid pizza place and it's got a great atmosphere. I went here earlier this summer on a slightly breezy day so I could sit on the porch to eat. Went as a date with my boyfriend, who is absolutely nuts about thin crust pizza and who had been once before with some friends and woke up dreaming about the pear and prosciutto pizza. So naturally, we hopped in the car to go. Side note about pricing! I'm aware that this place is quite pricey compared to your average pizza night or delivery order. But this is so far above and beyond those pizza places, that such a comparison is irrelevant. For other similar quality places in SA and around the country, pricing is fairly average. While I know that not everyone consults Yelp BEFORE dining out, the restaurant does post it's prices on its website and makes absolutely no attempt to hide this from you at any point. That being said, I can understand the frustration of driving up to this place and seeing the outdoor dining and kid-friendly setting and how that does not set an expectation for the pricing you actually encounter on the menu. All I can really say to that is that the product may be worth it, but I wouldn't squander this quality pizza on children to begin with. The establishment itself is kind of rustic- I like to think that it's texas style dining when you have picnic tables and shade trees/umbrellas and can sit outside when it isn't too hot to eat your food. There was miscellaneous yard and retro country decor around as well. But the food is certainly not Texan. We had the bruschetta appetizer- fresh, juicy tomatoes and thick, crusty bread? Delicious, as expected. My only wish is that instead of two large chunks of bread, there had been a few more smaller pieces, as that would have seemed like a larger amount of food and would be easier to share amount a larger group. For our entree, we had the sampler pizza- 4 pieces of the GRANTS PEAR PIZZA (Olive oil, mozzarella and Provolone cheese, Caramelized Pears, topped with Gorgonzola and Prosciutto), which was the perfect blend of salty and sweet. I never would have thought of this combination of toppings but everything was perfectly balanced and each ingredient complimented the others in just the right way so that nothing was overpowering! 2 slices of the SPANAKO (Butter Garlic Spread, Lamb, Roma Tomatoes, Turkish Calamata Olives, Purple Onions, Feta Cheese), which was tasty too but there are other places to get this type of pizza in SA 2 slices of LORFA'S FIVE (Mozzarella, Provolone, Feta, Parmesan, Gorgonzola Cheese sprinkled with Basil & Oregano), because I am a cheese addict. This was tasty and all, but it almost seemed like a little TOO much cheese. I can't believe I even said that. The Cheese Addicts Annonymous Club may make me surrender my membership card, but I honestly can't understand how anyone could consume an entire pizza of that. I suspect this may have less to do with the actual cheese and more to do with how well the other two versions we tried complimented one another with a variety of unusual toppings. In any case, the food was great and the ambiance of the early evening meal was nice as well and I am sure we will find ourselves back here for another meal before too long. We went at 4:30pm for an early dinner on a Sunday. Had our dog with us so we went to the outside entrance. Nobody was there and two waiters walked passed us so we assumed we should seat ourselves in the vastly open tables of the patio. We waited while multiple waiters and waitresses passed us, until we finally flagged one down 20 full minutes after we sat down. (We usually wouldn't have waited so long but they seemed understaffed and we didn't want to be a bother.) When we asked a waiter if we could order, he sassily told us that we didn't check in (with whom, we didn't know). When we apologized, we mentioned we weren't sure about procedure since there was usually a hostess seating outside. We then said we'd gladly move, and the waiter then rolled his eyes and said one of us could wait outside with the dog while the other checked in. At that point, we were extremely annoyed that they didn't kindly point that out 20min prior, and the rudeness from the waiter made us decide we'd rather not wait to order/eat. Will not be returning. We went instead to Flying Saucer where dogs and seating yourself are highly encouraged. The service is impeccable and the beer selection is better. read more

I am from Chicago and lived in NYC and SF and am a fan of NYC pizza, so for all of you deep dish lovers, this may not be the pizza you're looking for. But the best pizza I've ever had were in Italy and Italian Switzerland, and this is a good comparison to true Italian pizza. Fralo's only poor reviews are from people who don't like the price or it takes a long time for them to prepare the pizza. First of all, they don't use cheap ingredients and pay their employees nothing while their corporate CEOs rake in millions. Second, their pizza is made from scratch and that actually takes time to prepare (ie not straight from freezer to oven; think tossing the dough like they do in the movies.) For people that enjoy quality ingredients I'd highly recommend this restaurant. And if you really think a large pizza for $12 is a better alternative, well, there's a Pizza Hut in San Antonio for you somewhere just waiting to add you to the city's already enormous diabetic population. And remember, you usually get what you pay for. More good things. Great location with a really pretty outdoor eating area (you can take a date here). Excellent wine list. Service is very good, friendly and attentive. I usually get the Spanako. It's actually the best pizza I've had outside of Italy. I have ordered their delivery a lot of times, always comes quickly. I have never had issues before , but today was not Very pleasant. We sat at a table as instructed by someone , and then were asked to move because it was for a party. While I do understand that , we were then rudely and sarcastically told , "We do have a hostess here ." The manner in which we were told was belittling . After going to the hostess stand we were taken to a table , where no one waited on us, Finally , a waitress who wasn't supposed to be our waitress took it upon herself to wait on us . The best thing about Fralos is the rustic atmosphere. A good majority of the dining space is outside in the covered tent area, while there are 6 tables inside. Pebbles line the parking area and pathways, so the only place suitable for cute ladys' shoes are the interior's creaky wood floors. We ate inside tonight since the temperature was about 65-degrees and falling. We ordered a 14" half Margherita/ half Little Hottie. I thought the Magherita toppings were solid. Of course I'm a sucker for fresh basil, so it made the Margherita all the more palatable. I didn't like the Little Hottie as much, but my husband did. It consisted of chipotle pesto for the sauce topped with italian sausage, roma tomatoes, corn kernels, raw red onions, jalapenos, and cilantro. There was something off to me about Little Hottie, but I can't quite put my finger on it, but again my husband enjoyed it better than the Margherita. It would behoove me to not mention the crust in this case. There was something about the crust that didn't taste too hearty. I was wondering what it was. Then it occurred to me that it tasted like soup crackers (minus the salt and crack). When the check arrived, the medium pie with two soft drinks were just under $35 (that's with tip). read more

But let's say that within 5 minutes walk I can find better places for food, music, or outside sitting. Pizza is so not worth the money. So, Fralo's isn't in our regular restaurant rotation, and I'm pretty sure it should be. An outdoorsy pizza haven, serving up not only creative and unique pizzas, but also traditional simple pizzas, if you're into that sorta thing. I think crust tends to be overlooked on many pizzas, like it's just the conduit for toppings and sauce and it doesn't really matter what it tastes like, but I love that they take their crust seriously here. It's crispy, thin, but still substantial enough to provide that pleasant chew. It has the slightest hint of sweetness that I have no idea where it comes from, but provides the perfect finish to a good slice of 'za. I'm still daydreaming of the pear pizza - caramelized pears, creamy gorgonzola, and thinly shaved proscuitto. I don't even really like proscuitto that much, but it just sounded so good, I had to get it on our sampler. Lucky for me, these slices weren't supremely fatty and paired perfectly with the sweet and creamy pear/gorgonzola combo. Pure yum. So, a picturesque patio scene, awesomely weird pizza combos, and delicious crust - what's holding me back from five stars? Coming from someone that doesn't mind throwing down for a memorable meal, I think Fralo's is overpriced. For four of us to eat lunch (no booze, sadly), it was $70. That was two pizzas and two salads. I'll have to make a few more trips to make sure this place is consistent but after 1 visit I absolutely look forward to returning. We opted to sit inside (only 4 or 5 tables) only because there were too many Mosquitos out that particular night. I wish the live music would have been hooked up to the speakers inside, that would have been a nice touch because other than the kitchen, there's no noise whatsoever which made for awkward times while we ate. We were surprised to find a quinoa crust offered however since its ordered out (not made in-house), we happen to get the last one and that made some other tables not too happy. At least we got to enjoy it! **I should have stated our server told us the quinoa crust was ordered out ... I got a very polite update from a manager that the quinoa crust is actually homemade. Sweet!!** We ordered mozzarella sticks as a appetizer which were awesome. Not your standard sticks of hard cheese, they appeared to be homemade. We also got the pear and prosciutto pizza- oh my gosh! It wasn't overly sweet and we didn't feel gross afterwards, we actually took a few pieces home. The crust didn't become soggy either which is fantastic. I'd love to come back during cooler temps and sit outside. Most of the tables are picnic tables which means no backs, I'll have to suffer through that (bad back = needs real chairs, lol). Fresh mozzarella. . . I dont know about that. When its fresh its very moist, and what I had on my capresse salad was dry and crumbling, while I was also scrapping the poundn of balsamic vinegar off. Put it on the side please. It takes away from the "fresh" tomatoes and mozzarella. Expensive! HOLY COW! I wouldnt mind if it was like mind blowing good..but it wasnt.. Bunch of kid servers. My friend decided to have her rehearsal dinner at Fralo's a few weeks ago. I was not sure about this place because I checked it out online and we were going to be sitting outside in the middle of July (who does that in Texas?) and it was a pizza place (not exactly my choice for a rehearsal dinner but I digress). This place had really good Yelp reviews so I was willing to look past the outside, pizza place thing. The food itself was subpar. Someone at my table ordered the bruschetta and that was NOT bruschetta. It was more like Texas toast with a bunch of huge tomatoes on top with some weird vinaigrette dressing poured on top like it was chocolate sauce. Not very appetizing if you ask me. And I've had bruschetta in different places all over the world. For my entree I ordered lasagna, a classic. It had so much cheese that I thought I was instantly going to have a stomachache. I had to scrape the cheese over to the side so that I could find a bit of tomato sauce to cancel some of the cheesiness. Needless to say I was not pleased with my meal. I know that I went to a pizza place and ordered lasagna so that could be considered my fault. However, I only ordered lasagna and not pizza because the pizza was $26! And that was for a small pizza. I understand about business and making fresh pizzas but $26 is quite steep. So for a lasagna drowned in cheese and water my bill came to nearly $20 after an automatic gratuity for being part of a large party. I'm not from San Antonio but the next time I'm there I will certainly not be returning to Fralo's. read more

There are not many places in San Antonio that have a great outdoor seating area, allow you to BYOB, encourage you to bring your dog and offers live music. Fralo's Art of Pizza has all of this in addition to really great pizza. After being a patron for years, I must take it for granted because I have yet to write a review. No longer. I highly recommend Fralo's for the reasons listed above. Whether it is a family event of 30+ people or just me and my fiancé, Fralo's has been a superior experience. The Greek and caprese salads are excellent especially when followed with Margherita or Virginia pizza. They have a Spanako pizza which has lamb and olives that I find to be a refreshing change from the norm. You can also order your pizza to be made with whole wheat dough which actually is quite good. The ability to relax with your own cooler of beer or bottle of wine is one of my favorite reasons to dine at Fralo's. The staff is attentive but not overbearing and even goes so far as to bring you ice buckets to keep your beverage of choice cool (Fralo's also now sells beer and wine). This is especially helpful on those hotter days. Be advised that if you do patron Fralo's on a busy night you should be prepared to give the kitchen some time to get your pizza out to you but that's why you come here to relax. The pizza is good, in a different sort of way, but ultimately this place is more expensive for being different than being outstanding. If you're really craving a pizza, this could completely hit or completely miss depending on your tastes, but, other than the BYOB concept, most of this place doesn't seem all that amazing to me. It just seems like another one of those places that benefits by you not being entirely sober by the time the pizza arrives. Then we had the sampler pizza (4 of their signature pizzas in one pie) with the Grant's Pear (Olive oil, mozzarella and Provolone cheese, Caramelized Pears, topped with Gorgonzola and Prosciutto), Torino (Italian sausage, Chicken, arugula, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella and provolone cheese, spicy tomato sauce), Lorfa's Five (Mozzarella, Provolone, Feta, Parmesan, Gorgonzola Cheese sprinkled with Basil & Oregano), and something with Pork Belly. Of those, the Grant's Pear would be my favorite. Didn't care for the Torino at all - bland flavor. My fiance asked for sardines just on the Lorfa's Five, but they put them on the whole pizza which really threw off the flavor of the other pizzas. I'm giving this place a three stars because the pizza was really delicious. You can tell everything is home made and fresh; however, the service was really awkward. We stopped to eat here because of really bad traffic on our way to Kerrville and it had a good everyday lunch special from 11-4 for personal pizzas. It seemed like our weightier was the manager, or some type of high position for the restaurant and he wasn't professional with us at all. The service just wasn't good. We had to ask the host for refills and when he came to give us the check he was on the phone! He just lingered and waited for us to finish signing the bill while he was on the phone. I like to go to a restaurant and enjoy both the food and the service. I only recommend this place if you are driving through the area and you really need somewhere to eat. read more

I thought I had previously rated Fralo's, but it appears i had not. Been eating her for several years and I would have previously given it 5 stars. The service has always been good and the atmosphere is relaxing. But the star of the show was always the pizza. It was among the best in San Antonio. Unfortunately something changed in the past 6 months or so. Not sure if they changed suppliers or the recipe, but the pizza is not nearly as good as it once was. In fact, it pains me to say that it's actually pretty bad. The cheese is now greasy and has a strong smell and taste. It absolutely overwhelms the pizza in a bad way. Is this my first ever Yelp review? Why yes, yes it is. And fitting that it's for Fralo's, one of my favorite, if not my MOST favorite, pizza places ever. I have been to Fralo's a total of about 6-7 times over the past couple of years, so this is not based on solely one visit, but Fralo's is consistently delicious. Someone in a previous review mentioned that the pizza won't be the exact same each time you visit, which is sort of true, but it is amazing each time. An example of this is the first few times I visited, the Lorfa's Five cheese pizza was just that, cheese. The last most recent time I visited, there was a small slice of prosciutto on top of each slice. Different? Yes. Bad? Oh no sir. Point being, the ambiance is great. The pizza is great. The service is great. It's BYOB. The owner is from Colombia. All good things and all reasons to visit Fralo's. Keep up the awesome work. read more

I had my birthday party there this past year and immediately suggested it to coworkers when we were discussing our company holiday party. Everyone was very excited to try it and our party couldn't have been more fun. Even with the chilly, wet weather, we were comfortable underneath the tent with space heaters. The art of pizza is right. So i tried four different pizzas tonight with a nice bottle of merlot on a cold night. The Mediterranean pizza, the pineapple shrimp & coconut flakes pizza, then the chicken bbq pizza, and the gorganzola prosciutto pear pizza. It was close. My favorite was... I'll never tell (or really can't decide). They were/are all shut your freaking mouth delicious. Great service, cute little place. Really unique topping combinations on their pizzas. Brilliantly they offer a sampler pizza. You pick any 4 of their signature pizzas. They create an 8 slice pizza with 2 slices of the 4 choices you picked. I'm more of a basic meat lovers pizza. So while the people that I came with split a sampler pizza, I had their lunch special. It was an 8" pizza (up to 3 toppings), a small mixed salad, and a drink. It was good, fresh. Just missing something for me. The salad was outstanding! My friends all enjoyed the sampler pizza. They also split a salad and calamari and raved about both. Probably won't go again, but that's just due to my personal picky taste! read more

This place is amazing. I am not from San Antonio, but we were at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. After leaving the park on a boiling hot summer day, we were physically exhausted and extremely hungry and thirsty. I checked Yelp for nearby restaurants in the $ and $$ category sorted by highest ratings first, and came across "Fralo's Art of Pizza". All the reviews I saw on my iPhone 4 mentioned outdoor seating and corking fees. We didn't plan to drink alcohol, but we certainly didn't want to sit outside after the day we'd had. I called them, and thankfully they said they have indoor seating as well. We arrived, and were shocked to see, instead of a normal looking restaurant, what appeared to be a mobile home set a small distance away from a frontage road with a gravel parking lot and outdoor seating area consisting of picnic tables. We entered and found a seating area of about three to four small 3 person tables and 2 five to six person tables. A waitress sat us immediately and took our drink order and gave us several recommendations. The drinks were served in giant glasses and were refilled frequently; I was thankful of that. I didn't remember the name of the waitress, but she was very friendly and helpful. They have only one type of crust, but it is amazing. I'd say the crust is the best part of the pizza. While eating, we met one of the owners, Lori. Something I learned after finishing my meal is that the name of the restaurant, Fralo's, is a portmanteau of the two owners' names: Frank and Lori (Fra-Lo). Lori talked with us frequently throughout the meal and even got me a couple of things I needed, like marinara in which to dip the crust. I told her I found the restaurant on Yelp, and she said they'd started advertising there recently because a customer who works for Yelp told them about it. They don't appear to need to pay Yelp for considerationg, judging by the other reviews. One thing to note, the restaurant is no longer BYOB only. They just got their liquor license and have wine to serve in the restaurant; however, if you want to BYOB, you still can, for a $5 corking fee. If you are ever in the area, I highly recommend you try Fralo's; I know I will, whenever I'm back in the San Antonio area. read more

Great food. Skip the Burrata. Wings, Caesar salad and pizza are all outstanding! I'm so glad we finally found amazing hand tossed pizza with plenty of cheese and good sauce. We added this to our regular spots! read more

The waitstaff is extremely rude. We've been here a few times and never had an issue, but today the service was horrible. Food was brought out at separate times and the person bringing it out didn't even have the right table. He came up to the table and said "does this look right to anybody?" This isn't the experience I expect from a restaurant like this. read more

We ordered pickup, just visiting the area. Spaghetti meatballs had water and barely a spoonful of sauce. The bread that came with was really good! I would never order that again. The house salad was good and the perfect size to split. My husband got the Lorfas Five pizza and it was huge. He says it was good and he would get it again. read more

Based on contract with the owner we decided to go back to Fralo's this past Sunday as the weather was nice and felt that we should give them another chance. We started with the Tomato & Basil Bruschetta...wow, amazing! Very fresh and flavorful. My wife commented that it may have been the best she has had. For the pizza we went with the LORFA'S FIVE with peperoni and portabella mushrooms and the regular crust with extra sauce. Hands down one of the best pie's we have had!
