On a whim, I decided to get donuts at Fractured Prune. Once I walked in, I was immediately greeted with warm a "Hello." I shared that I wasn't sure what I wanted and took time to look at the images of donuts on the wall. I selected Sand, Lemon, and Strawberry Shortcake. The father and son duo got to work. The youngster rang up my order while the father prepared the donuts. I was impressed with their efficiency and happily listened to music and chatted while I waited. Once my order was ready, I was given my box of donuts with a reminder to come back and visit any time I traveled to Ocean City again. In the car, I was happy to see an extra donut, Blueberry, had been provided for free. What a nice touch. There's nothing like a warm donut! I took a bite off each donut and fell in love with the slight tartness of the Lemon and the sweetness of the Sand and Stawberry donuts. The Blueberry was yummy, as well. I saved the other bites for later and happily drove away knowing this would not be my last visit to the location. read more

This place is good, not my favorite donut shop in the world, but I give them crazy props for two things... 1- they have some awesomely thoughtful concoctions that make you scratch your head but are rather tasty. 2- I have seen girls eat their donuts and make faces and body movements that are not quite G rated. Girls can't seem to get enough of them. I like the Blueberry Hill donut but the last time I was here it nearly fell apart it was so hot and honestly- moist from grease. A lot of people I talk to are keen on the Fractured Prune. I can definitely say they failed to WOW me. The concept is great. Donuts made to order with a variety of unique flavor combos for toppings. Chocolate mint, dreamsicle, etc... The donut itself is a bit bland. Very heavy and greasy. Nothing unique for a donut. The flavors are the only thing that really save it. The service is friendly and personable at this location. The deck of cards used instead of numbers or names is fun. I guess I would recommend checking it out for its unique factor. THE GOOD these were wonderful.good combinations of warm donuts and toppings. I really likes the french toast donut. It was simple but delicious. We did try lots of other combos on their menu board, and the kids just raved like lunatics....and so did the wife. Will come back again and i might even try some of my own creations. Maybe it was this location, but wow what a disappointment. There was one person working (who was totally pleasant), so she's trying to make stuff as fast as she can. As a result, the donuts were iced too quickly after the donuts come out of the oil and the icing just melts right off. The coffee situation was like worse than 7-11. It was just one large carafe of coffee with packs of sugar. There's also no where to sit if you want to eat there. And their register was down so it was cash only. Driving down the Costal Highway in Ocean City, MD is fun. And while cruising with my friend Dan, he pulled into the Fractured Prune. Now I'm not crazy about donuts and I thought this joint had a dumb name, but when he walked in to order a half dozen, I followed him nonetheless. Upon entering, I was pleasantly surprised; nay, blown away. After navigating through the small crowd of hungover bros, we stepped to the counter. Behind the register was a conveyer belt of hot fresh donuts pouring into a small bin in the staging area. They were just old fashioned, regular donuts; no glaze. Even by themselves they would have been some of the best donuts I've ever tasted. Here's the trick, they're basically made to order donuts. They have several glazes, and more than a dozen crushed toppings. They will basically make anything you can think of, but the menu consists of the most tried and true. You can have their take on a reese's cup: peanut butter glaze with mini chocolate chips. Or my personal favorite: mocha glaze with crushed oreo crumbs. You can check out the whole menu. Bottom Line: They start with awesome donuts, and they're hot and fresh. Topping them with great glazes and ingredients only makes things better. We had been in OC, MD for a week, and I still hadn't tried the Fractured Prune. I saw their full-color ad in the Yellow Pages and the wild looking donuts caught my eye. We stopped at the one on 28th street on our way out of town, vacation over. :( There was a line out the door, but it moved along pretty quickly. My daughter and I each grabbed a cold milk, and my husband waited, but not too long, for the coffee to brew. Once we got to the front of the line we realized they only take cash, so a very kindly gentleman offered to PAY OUR BILL while hubby went on the hunt for an ATM to pay him back. They actually had one in the shop, but it was awol. This fellow restored my faith in humanity! I'm pregnant, so perhaps he figured I couldn't exactly outrun him if we were going to pull one over. We placed our order - one carnival(icing and rainbow sprinkles) and three OC Sand - honey glaze and sugar(I could go for one now...), plus a breakfast sandwich on a bagel. The donuts came up quickly - in an icing smeared box, which was a leetle gross. After I wiped it off and opened it up, I was amazing how hot the donuts were. They literally make them for you as the orders come in. We actually had to wait for them to cool off in order to eat 'em. I'd like the donuts cooked a teeny bit longer - they were just a bit doughy in the middle, but still worth the trip. The breakfast sandwich took a long while to come ready(the donuts were long gone by then), but it was very good. There is no seating except for one very sticky, but still popular, table out front. Nearby there are a few benches as well. Somehow we scored the sticky table. They have some crazy flavor combinations as the other reviewers have mentioned, but the basic donuts are the way to go. Our total bill was just under $10 for 4 donuts, 2 milks, 1 coffee and an egg/sausage and cheese breakfast bagel. As someone who frequented fractured prune closer to ocean city in my past, I was super excited to see there was one near my campground.... Ordered two dozen, brought them home and opened the box and disappointment. When the girl stacked the boxes, the bottom box smushed all dozen doughnuts due to the heat of hot doughnuts and the paper box. Love this place. My spouse and I come over here every chance we get whenever we are down around in the area vacationing. The girl who was running the shop today was so nice and under control of the place despite being by herself and having to handle 4 parties orders that came in a wave, half dozen, two dozen, half dozen again (our party) then one dozen after us. She noticed hkw my youngest child got very messy from eating a donut with ooey chocolate chips and offered us to use their sibm to wash up. Very friendly girl, I hope ahe is there the next time we cone around. As for the donuts, THE BEST. Piping hot so be careful. "Cakey" and could possibly fall apart right in your hands from being so hot. Made to your desired likings or from a selected "precreated" concoction of sugary goodness like cinnamon or white, with multiple glazes like honey, blueberry, lemon, cherry, and a variety of different toppings such as mini chocolate chips, mint chips, shredded coconut, something for strawberry shortcake flavor (haven't tried it yet) you get the idea. Just stopped here for a quick breakfast. Huge mistake! Ordered 3 donuts and a bagel with cream cheese. One girl literally said "are you kidding me?" when she got the order with a bagel. I mean I'm standing right there. Took 15 minutes to get my order as the three young people working were more concerned with talking to each other than waiting on the line of customers in the store. We recently spent a week in Ocean City for Sunfest. Before we went I saw an episode of Unwrapped on the Food Network that featured the Fractured Prune and how amazing their donuts were. So we went one morning. First off, I'm not a huge cake donut fan. But I ordered a dozen for me & my family. After also purchasing a hat, the mgr/owner came out and asked if it was our first visit, then offered us a free one to enjoy while we waited (they are made one by one, fresh) it was amazing!! My favorite flavors are OC Sand (glazed w/cinnamon sugar), Ms. Prunella (mixed berry glaze w/cinnamon sugar & Black Forest (raspberry glaze w/coconut & mini chocolate chips). They are best eaten hot, fresh from the fryer! You can make your own flavor combos as well, I chose Blueberry Hill with cinnamon sugar instead of the powdered sugar, delicious. They are cash only, no credit cards. The prices run from $1.50 per donut, $7 for 1/2 dozen & $12 a dozen. They also offer breakfast sandwiches as well, but we didn't try those (I heard they were very good as well). At this location, we didn't experience any big lines & thought it was cool that you get a playing card as your pick up number. The employees are very nice, if you are in Ocean City, this is a place you must visit! You can get hats, shirts & they offer bottled sodas, coffee and milk to drink. There are a few chairs but no tables to sit at. We were staying very close by so we rushed back & enjoyed them at our apartment. It's interesting to read the story while waiting about the history of the name "Fractured Prune". Even if you're not a big donut fan, these are a must-try. You'll be hooked! These donuts are good. The shop is nothing more than a place to pick them up at. I didn't try the coffee or any of the other sweets. I just got a variety of donuts to go and they were fantastic. They are the cake variety and I'm usually a fan of the other type of donuts but these were excellent. I defintely will give these a whirl on occassion when the calaorie count allows. I am a HUGE donut fan! Friends of ours made a trip to the Fractured Prune last year during our visit and raved of just how delicious they were, so we made a point to go on our vacation this year. There were a couple of days that during a walk there was a line out the door, so we opted to come back. On one evening we walked to a location near the boardwalk, to our disappointment it was only open from 7a-1p. FINALLY, we got started on our morning walk early one day, arriving just after opening... I walked in & was surprised to see a modest operation and no seating to eat inside. I ordered a dozen and used a coupon from one of the local discount books : ) I chose 4 flavors: peppermint patty, strawberry shortcake, lemonade and orange creamsicle... What had we been missing during all of our years coming to Ocean City??? I could not get over how the delicious fried ring of goodness was as it melted in my mouth!!! The only thing that upset me was that I actually didn't eat the entire dozen the 1st day (as they are best fresh)! I will not let another OCMD trip go by without paying a visit to the Fractured Prune!!! This place caught our eye as we were heading out of town. We were skeptical at first, but these hot, fresh donuts are literally the best donuts I've ever had. I didn't have time to take a picture because we scarfed them down so quickly. Granted, they were piping hot, so it probably wasn't the best decision. But oh my gosh they were insanely good. I've never had anything quite like it. I may be back to ocean city just for the donuts!!! I wish there was once closer to me, I've been dreaming about these donuts ever since!!! Ignore the haters, most of the stuff they complain about is not the fault of fractured prune. My only qualm was that customer service was completely lacking... Stopped by to pick up a couple donuts while in Ocean City for my boyfriends birthday. He got the honey glazed and I picked the Blueberry Hill. He really enjoyed the donut and the crispy outside with the soft inside and said the glaze was really good. I also enjoyed my donut, but I wish there was a bit more blueberry to it. This is a delightful little store with outstanding products. The variety of donuts is awesome and they are delicious. My only criticism is that the store hours are very limited, especially off season. Mixed reviews on this place folks. My wife went for a coffee. You have to stand in line to self serve the coffee, then walk to the refrigerator to get your creamer; no flavored creamer at all. Then you had to stand in line again to pay at the register. When paying $2.35 for coffee one should be able to expect a choice of creamer and to have it poured fresh. The coffee tasted like burnt toast. On this particular visit, though they offer iced-coffee type drinks, there was a sign hanging on the menu board stating that the specialty coffee machines were broken. The donuts on the other hand are very good; made fresh when you order. The flavors are choices you would not find anywhere else. We tried peppermint patty (good but one was enough), french toast (great if you're in the mood for french toast), strawberry, carnival and a couple others.
