Cake donuts are a copout. Strictly worse than yeasted donuts, which take more time, more skill, and more work than cake donuts. Putting cold toppings on a hot donut is always going to yield a sloppy mess where none of the flavors and textures actually have time to get to know each other. That said, I would typically give a cake donut shop 3 stars. They're not gross, they're just not my favorite. So why the low rating? Horribly inefficient ordering system. It's hard to see the menu board while waiting in line. Speaking of lines - it's poorly marked and a recipe for interpersonal conflict. After ordering, you wait at another window to pick up (which takes far longer than anyone would want to wait for a donut) where someone quietly says your name. Can't hear? Too bad for you I guess! Getting coffee? They ask if you want milk in it, then they make you wait for it until your donuts are ready (even though the coffee is in pitchers/urns so there's no reason they can't hand it to you while you wait) and then after all that tell you "no, we don't have milk. I have been to many fractured prunes. These donuts are always fresh, hot, and cakey. My average thought on fractured prune is maybe 3 stars. 1. I do not prefer cake donuts. I like fluffy. 2. They are more of a beach specialty than they are actually great quality. However, this specific fractured prune is stand out. The service is quick, but the guy in charge on this random Monday mid-afternoon thought my kids were cute and was extra nice to them. I was going to make them split one donut, but on top of just generally being nice and letting them order like difficult to comprehend 3 year olds, he surprised them with extras! Maybe it was because they were close to closing and had extra batter, but he gave both my kids 2 donuts drenched in glaze and sprinkles. Their faces completely lit up and it was one of those can't be matched, magical beach moments that will be a core memory for them. They have a menu of donuts but there is also an option to create your own donut with a variety of toppings, glazes, and sugars-- soo truly endless possibilities of donut flavors combinations. When we arrived there was a bit of a line but we waited, we picked which donuts we wanted so we didn't have to hold up the line. We ended up getting some of their donuts off their menu and made a few of our own. The donuts are literally so fresh and warm as they were just made. I loved the OC Sand and Carnival! Again, the donut itself does not disappoint; however, I'd recommend against ordering the wich. It was way overpriced for the paper thin egg and sprinkling of cheese that accompanied it. It ended up just tasting like the donut because the taste overpowers the rest, hardly a quality sandwich. It also took forever to make. It's a neat idea though, so it's worth it to say I tried it. We ordered a half dozen doughnuts, two carnival, one O.C. Sand French toast, strawberry shortcake, Cookies N cream and honey glazed. OMG...they were devoured in five minutes. I only got to taste the O.C. Sand French toast, which was warm and deliciously satisfying down to the last bite. Besides the tasty toppings, they really put the dough in doughnut because the cake-like batter really sealed the deal. Before we departed O.C. we picked up another half dozen for the ride home, but as you can imagine, they didn't make it out the parking lot. Nothing beats fresh baked donuts! I've visited the beaches at OC, Maryland and have eyed this small donut shop for quite some time and finally got to try it. It's a corner shop and there's a long bench table outside for those who wants to have a quick bite while sitting. On the right side of the front window, is the menu of variety of donuts that combination is already created. Don't worry, if you select these donuts, it's still being prepared fresh. You also have the option to creat your own glaze, toppings (yes, you can add more than one) and sugar finishes on tops! Ordered half dozen of different donuts varieties for $10 and then I was given a jack of clover card as my ticket and to wait on the side window of the shop. When my order is ready, the jack of clover will be called. The wait was literally 3 minutes short and before we know it, my family and I began to tear up these amazingly, hot and delicious donuts. We spotted Grotto's first and wondered if they had sandwiches since we didn't think Fractured Prune would have it as a donut shop. Amazing breakfast sandwich for a donut shop. French toast donut - maple glaze & cinnamon sugar. Delicious! It's pretty much a standard donut flavor but because it was made fresh right there, it made a HUGE difference in taste. Warm and pure cinnamony goodness. Morning buzz - mocha glaze & cookie crumbs. This was perfection. Not doughy at all. Utterly a-ma-zing. Hubby and I aren't big donut fans so the fact that we wolfed down two and wanted more says a lot. The combination of flavors and toppings are great and the piping hot donut is as good as you can get. Fractured Prune should be called "so fresh" because everything was top notch. Really great donuts and a must visit when you stay in Ocean City. I made the mistake of trying to visit a view locations around the area while driving, not knowing that there was one right on the boardwalk (but then again maybe not since I probably would've visited more than once during my stay). I arrived as they were opening in the morning and was immediately greeted and able to place my order. My donuts were made fresh to order but I believe they do that regardless of what time you arrive. I ordered the regular glazed, the lemon glazed and a few rainbow options for my younger nephews. We devoured them, they were so amazing! They're cakey which I generally don't love but because these were hot and fresh they just melted in your mouth. I don't think I've had a donut since because I'm spoiled now. Loved these donuts. All of the donuts we ordered were the cake type (vs yeast), and while I usually prefer yeast, these cake one were the best I've ever had. We got it when it was warm, so they were soft and just melted in your mouth. And "soft" is the key word here. I typically don't prefer cake donuts because they crumble when hardened ( a la not fresh). Not the case here - warm, soft and oh so moist. We got a dozen donuts with every one a different variety and I really enjoyed them all. I can't say which one stood out as I really just enjoyed the texture. I can say that none were overbearingly sweet or salty, which allowed me to eat more than I should've in one sitting. What's surprising about these donuts is that they STAY soft. I ate them for the next 2 days and they still didn't crumble! (Ate as-is, no reheating!) I'm told from my baker friends that what's keeping them soft is probably not something too healthy (trans fat?) But if you're trying to watch your figure, you shouldn't be eating donuts anyways. So might as well enjoy the donut in front of you! Definitely would return here next time I'm in OCMD (unless I'm watching my waistline) and recommend anyone to give it a try! read more

This location in particular is located on the Ocean City MD boardwalk right off 14th Street. Back in 2018 I was on vacation in Dewey Beach and one of the days we took an evening to go to Ocean City MD. Naturally I needed my Fractured Prune fix, and this was the first one I came too. Its a smaller location compared to the full stores (it's just a stand) but I still enjoyed it. The donuts were amazing and they had some tables to sit around and eat them. However, I was gung-ho in trying it out while I was in the area, and saw that this location had recently opened up. They were made fresh-to-order, and came out piping out with a wait time of about 2 minutes. Being cake donuts, I was super excited. While all the flavors were interesting and enticing, I felt as if they were more subtle in taste. My favorite out of them all was the Peppermint Patty, as it was super minty and topped with mini chocolate chips - yum! The donuts, being super hot, had the glaze melting about everything, so it can be quite a mess (maybe a fork and knife is necessary?)!
